You know, when I first watched HxH (which actually wasn't that long ago), I knew to expect Killugon because I knew before watching it that they were the show's main OTP. Which gave me the time and opportunity to keep a closer look at Leopika. And at first I was like, "Yeah, okay, they're this show's rivals/opposites ship, but Leorio's is so unapologetically hetero. Why would you ship him with another guy?" and even with that thought in mind, Leopika became MY HxH otp.
Mind you, I watched 2011 before 1999's version, and although it was longer, it had only about 2/5 Leorio/kurapika/leopika content in the whole show (which was torture). I saw the tidbits, that they poked fun at the other, they teased each other, they butted heads repeatedly. Kurapika is so ruthlessly savage with Leorio at times, and I was like, "???? Why are you about to sell your soul to this pairing, girly??" And then it clicked.
Leopika, to me, is not only just the show's token rival couple. They're the, "I can insult them and tease them and poke fun at them all I want, but if you touch a hair on their head, I will tear you to shreds in an instant." pairing. They're they, can't live with him, can't live without him pairing. The one where to each other's faces, they're comfortable enough to give the other a gentle ribbing sometimes.
But Kurapika still rushed into a cave full of venomous snakes despite Leorio's explicit warning, sucked the venom out of Leorio enough so that Leorio would survive the votes (yeah I didn't forget Gon helped to)
And Leorio was so blatantly worried about Kurapika during the York New City arc.
And then I watched 1999's version. And Oh. Dear. Lord. The Leopika was so strong in that version that I was happily drowning in it. (The entirety of the "we're stuck on an abandoned ship and need to get to this island in two days episodes were my favorite because when Hanzo said Leorio hadn't come up from the water yet, he was visibly devastated and shut down completely until Killua told him Gon went and got him. My poor heart)
I don't think I had a choice in the matter to ship Leopika. They were that pairing that was so in my face with, "Accept our love" and. I was just, "Okay, I didn't need my soul anyway." The thought that Leorio is the dad friend and Kurapika is the "mom" (I actually really hate this analogy) is just a bonus.
This is pretty well said :”) But I’d just add that, while in the begining there was a sort of meanspirited goal to their arguing (their very first fight for instance was really meanspirited on both side) their “getting on each other faces” became much more teasing and often also bickering beause they both talk their mind. While they still have some heated arguments, it’s with far more caring and concern for each other.
I hadn’t had the opportunity to watch the 1999 yet, although I definetly have to because I saw some of the Leopika moments and I’m truly hype. But so far just reading the manga remembering the development they had makes a lot of things into perspective. Especially some stuff that aren’t exactly as accentuated in the anime as it is in the manga (I mostly think about Leorio’s concern toward the end of the Zoldyck Family arc when Kurapika talks about the spiders).
It’s mostly how they evolved as a whole that drove me to them, and I’m mostly with you on everything.
This is such a particular ship aaah. I’m kinda looking forward to see more (I still need to finish the manga and watch 1999) but man. They’re quite something.

Victor? What were your actual thoughts when you saw Christophe touch Yuuri's butt? And how did you feel about those girls saying that you should just break up with him? Were you worried about what Yuuri's was thinking if he heard?
Tumblr media
Viktor: Ahhhh… ah….
Tumblr media
Viktor: This is a lot of questions at one time, but I will answer them. Ahem… at the time Yuuri and myself weren’t fully… as one would call “Official” so jealousy would be a bad reaction, though I don’t really condone jealousy to much to begin with. I was upset more over the fact that technically speaking Chris was harassing Yuuri. That is what doesn’t settle with me.
Tumblr media
Viktor: As for people telling me to break up with Yuuri… well. I didn’t like it. I will admit that and I do not plan to break up with him soooo. That is that.
Tumblr media
Viktor: And I am always worried about Yuuri, but I am sure he knows well enough by now.
Tumblr media
Viktor: He is pretty amazing like that~

Yuuri: V-Viktor...*sighs contently*

Do you by any chance have any Leopika fic recs? I'd love to read some but I'm terrible about finding them on my own. If you could help me out, that'd be great. Thank you either way. See ya. ^_^
Boy do I have some. Buckle up friend. Strong Hearts by cherryfizzies It’s an AU one shot with found family at its center. It’s warm and will leave you with a wonderful fuzzy feeling. It’s funny and heartbreaking at the same time. The pacing is great and every character comes off as genuine and true to their canon selves. Spring Haze by caseyvalhalla Also an AU, and still a work in progress. It’s beautifully written with plenty of heart, and has this creepy undercurrent and air of mystery and portrays the fear of actually not knowing where the fuck you are excellently. The pacing is slow at the beginning, but it’s just starting to pick up with chapter 10. Also it has trans!Leorio how awesome is that?? Highly recommended. By the same author you can read A Thousand Miles Wandering, which was written for the hxh big bang. What’s great about it is that you can totally read it and enjoy it without even knowing what the hell hxh is. It’s that good. Whispered Wishes and Dying Dreams by by BlackSilkenRose This is my favorite, and it’s the kind of one shot you’ll want to go back to over and over again. It’s super well-written, knows where to tap, and it just sort of captures the dynamic between Kurapika and Leorio with so much care and love. It’s also one of those fics that so effortlessly changes your perspective on characters. Warning though, it’s angsty and introspective but does have an ambiguously satisfying ending. You’ll probably cry a little I don’t know. Cauda Pavonis by Queerapika I love this one! It’s urban fantasy, I guess? Leorio is a cop and Kurapika is a dreamseer and their relationship builds slowly while they work on a case of missing children involving supernatural elements. The writing is great and there’s a lot of affection for every character involved. I remember some parts involving the inner workings of their in-universe powers being really confusing to understand, but they didn’t retract from the enjoyment of reading it.  Pop Culture Prepared us for This by TheWritingDorkThe zombie apocalypse with a lot of heart. It’s fun and lighthearted and bouncy. Still a work in progress. It’s also Leorio-centric, what more could you ask for?  The Height of Fashion by Mina Lightstar It’s quick, funny, and full of that Leorio Kurapika spatter we all live for. Mina is one of the oldest writers for hxh, before 2011 was a thing, and unfortunately some of the author’s fics didn’t age well, but there are many of them and they are still well-written, so read them just for the ‘99 leopika cuteness, if nothing else. Also _and I write this while hiding behind a pillow_ there are my own written tiny fics, Plus x Two x Minutes and A Quiet Evening at Home. Those are the ones I’ve read (and wrote) and I’m sure there’s a lot more leopika goodness out there, so if any of my followers (or non-followers) have any other fics they like, please add to this. I’ll probably update this list every now and then, so feel free to contribute whenever you like.

Oh my God, I love the headcanon that Mika and Shinya are brothers. I'll even settle for half brothers, I mean they have such similar characteristics, and Shinya would be a bad ass older brother, and mini!Mika is cheeky and sassy just like Shinya is and it's just perfection. The age difference is awesome too, and they're both orphaned and adopted (Mika/Shinya) so there's a possibility. Or perhaps that's just wishful thinking. *blissful sigh*

@ghostwriter24 replied to “@ghostwriter24 replied to “Looking at the last text posts my queue...”
There's a popular argument that, "If you only watch 2011 version, you shouldn't be able to ship Leopika." (this was paraphrased, but that's the gist) because of the way their relationship was portrayed. They have very little screentime together, as compared to Killugon, and the majority of it, they are fighting. But for some reason, I started shipping them in the 2011 version, for the reasons listed above.
You're right, at first they were at odds and were really cutthroat with each other. Their personalities clashed real hard, but afterwards, there was this sense of chaotically friendly friendship where I get the, "rival" part from. Like, when they're making sushi and Menchi says Kurapika's is no better than Leorio's, and Kurapika looks like he's just seen hell. (Lol)
I recognize now, after watching the whole series (both of them)., the movies, and filling in the holes after the Chairman Election arc in the Manga, there's That their relationship/friendship is based off of caring for and worrying about the other (much more on Leorio's side, surprisingly...or not...KURAPIKA ANSWER YOUR PHONE!!!) But the core of my love for this ship is "I argue with you all the time, but when push comes to shove, I am on your side."
Also, the 1999 version is a blessing. I love it so much. (The dub version is actually pretty good) There are a lot of filler episodes, but all the better for me because they're all chalk full of Leopika. And it stops just after York New City arc. They show how Kurapika gets his nen, and it's mesmerizing and beautiful and haunting all at once.
Huuuh in one way I see where people are coming from about the 2011 vers, but on the other well - I started shipping it when I started rewatching the show a bit before reading the manga and that therefore it hits me how much development they had been going through when they were together in the serie. But it’s true that it’s. really in the background so I can get why people feel this way.
Ahah omg I love this part. But yup I agree. I personally think that at first, Kurapika didn’t especially try to bond with anyone (thus why he started to be hard on Leorio) and that when Leorio started to express his love for money Kurapika was extremely pissed off. It’s understandable considering his people had been slaughered so their eyes could be sold (and even further once the manga read, it always remind me that Leorio’s attitude could have reminded Kurapika of the bully who tried to steal his and Pairo’s money for the chief of their clan) so he as pityless against him, and Leorio was hurt in his pride.
When they started tagging along so, it was mostly the camaradry of saving Gon and seeing each others reactions to this incident that had them try travelling together. and then Kurapika says himself that after getting to know Leorio he’s not “one of those guy obsessed with money” which Kurapika despite at first (and I still consider it rather trusting of Kurapika that, when he still hadn’t have any confirmation Leorio wasn’t moneyhungry, he still told him right away his eyes were worth billions (and how Leorio imediatly asked about his pride, since he got to know Kurapika)). Leading to the real goal conversation here they really started to soften big time (again likely bc Kurapika left his village to explore the wolrd and hopefully find a doctor for Pairo).
So that’s what I mean mostly by the real clash in the begining that all started on a big missunderstanding and why then it became easier on each other. During the missunderstanding, they thought the other was everything they hated, and after this conversation, Kurapika proved he didn’t care about his pride as much as Leorio thought, and Leorio proved his genuine pure intentions that Kurapika appreciated.
But then there’s still the obvious bickering, especially with the food (I love this part so much) but it became much more like people teasing each other than meanspirited (the only fight they had that was a little more than bickering imo is in the Prison Exam when Leorio keeps asking Kurapika to kill the fake spider, which in itself is interesting for Leorio’s determination and how after that and spending more time with Kurapika he dreeds at the idea of Kurapika killing people).
But yup, while we mostly see Leorio worry for Kurapika I’d say they both would. Leorio also manages to calm Kurapika down sometimes, I think mostly hen Chrollo starts to try angering Kurapika. to be fair Leorio has a golden heart and once he starts caring for someone he’ll care more than ever, and for Kurapika, for someone who lost everything he ever loved, he grows protective of his new friends. But it’s true the anime doesn’t really show that toard Leorio aside from the hunter exams which. Pls. Togashi help.
(and overrall I tend to overread everything so I could ship them with what I got from the 2011 anime and from the manga so far)
And ye so I heard about the 1999 vers :3 Which is why I really need to watch it. I’m not sure I’ll watch with the english dub but well, I’m sure at least I’ll watch it. The more Leopika I get the better ;O

@ghostwriter24 replied to “@ghostwriter24 replied to “@ghostwriter24 replied to “@ghostwriter24...”
I admit I am a sucker for red eyes, so you can bet I would be very careful about finding ways of incorporating Kurapika's red eyes into any au I put some thought into lol.
Okay so, how would you imagine the dynamics of Leopika's relationship would act out?
*high five of the red eyes lover* I’m really really glad :DDD This is the best way to do it I’m glad we’re on the same page there ;O
Oh boy.  Well they wouldn’t be introduced for the best reasons so I think Kurapika would be a little wary of Leorio at first? I mean.
Leorio wouldn’t be telling he’s trying to get money to become a doctor, just like in canon, and Kurapika would just be even more upset that Leorio is trying to get money on the backs of the Kurta (or, if memory loss,  just that he would do something that mannerless to get money). Kurapika isn’t too found of people who sell their souls for money and he kinda looks down on that.  So they’d be off a bad start imo?
On one hand, Kurapika is like. The exact Kurta’s rumor’s portrait and he seems to be able to adapt to his plan quite a bit. plus, Gon ended up liking him fast so it’s easier, and honestly? they’ve been auditioning so much people that someone like Kurapika in the end isn’t that bad. On the other, tho, I don’t think Kurapika would go too easy on Leorio because of the money thing, a bit like when they met in canon, and it would start a bit of conflict between them. Because Kurapika would likely pick on Leorio sometimes and Leorio would reply ofc.
But also as they’re travelling together, and also with Gon and Killua, I think they will both grow to see the other isn’t that bad, and they can see how caring they can be  in general. Eventually kinda like in canon Kurapika would realize that there’s more to Leorio than what meets the eyes and would mostly be a little gentler around him, which would surprise Leorio at first but will likely fluster him a little.
As it is I still think that they would be like, lowkey bickering and teasing each others (which was why it kinda hit me at first the whole Anastasia thing because it could be them) but they will truly and purely end up caring for each other.
and I’m a little. not the greatest to write about love so I’m a bit clumsy on that. But I’m kinda curious for how their relationship could develop especially around the quest to find the Kurta, and like, Kurapika softening enough to really wish Leorio can get the money he wants so he can follow his dreams, while Leorio ends up feeling a bit weird bc he’s not really sure he can let Kurapika go once everything is over in a way? idk
I’m shit at thinking those kind of things up akjhds

In order to save on money that they hardly have, Leorio finds someone who can forge a fake extra ticket and papers for a whole lot less money than paying for a real ticket and travel papers. But who do you suppose the "grandmother" of this au is? Pairo perhaps? But instead of having Pairo old enough to be this Kurapika's grandmother, perhaps Pairo is his uncle or cousin a few years older.
Maybe in this storyline, it's Kurapika who was going to leave since it's canon that Kurapika was very adventurous and curious about traveling. And just like in the series, Kurapika had just left when the Kurta clan's slaughter. But instead of canon, perhaps there were rumors about a possible attack and because of Pairo's condition, they had sent him away before the massacre and that's how he survived.
That’s probably going to be trouble but ye I can totally see them trying to do that omg.
Ye that’s kinda what I though? I mean I think it’d be more likely him to be Pairo  if we need to pick a family member to look for Kurapika. If we really want an old one it’d be the chief, but ye, I truly go more on Pairo. And Pairo can even be a little younger maybe, just that he managed to get the rumors that we’re looking for the last Kurta once he got old enough to be able to get himself protected.
And yup I think it can work? But does it mean in that AU Kurapika remembers being a Kurta you’d say? Because I think that, especially with Leorio already trying to find the last of the Kurta for money, if he does remember that would be ways tricker to deal with. Maybe just learning about the massacre when he was away triggered a memory loss (like he had an accident after learning about it or something) that would just slowly come back during the travel the more they get them to learn about the Kurta. (also I totes see Kurapika just starting to beam with anger hearing about the massacre without really knowing why and when he starts remembering he gets into his revenge mindset while everyone tries to still bring him to Pairo because it will be far less destructive for him).
... also I still don’t know if I keep the red eyes or not because I re a l l y like the red eyes thing and we can still use it as an excuse (like instead of Rasputine it’s the troupe looking for the last eyes that are after them) and Kurapika, without really remembering his past and maybe growing in an environment who barely heard about the Kurta’s massacre, would just know he needs to hide his eyes and not tell anyone about it. Dk tho if Leorio would know about the eyes while looking for an actor or nah.

@ghostwriter24 replied to “@ghostwriter24 replied to “@ghostwriter24 replied to “@ghostwriter24...”
I like to think that in the beginning, Kurapika's memory is fuzzy but he remembers bits and pieces, and this is how he learns to hide his eyes. So when he meets Leorio and Gon, Kurapika has an aversion to Leorio because his main priority is money, and although Kurapika knows how it feels to not have money and pinching pennies just to get by. He does appreciate Leorio's theory that the world runs on money, but he disagrees with Leorio's methods of trying to con Pairo.
At first, Kurapika doesn't want to go along with it. If the person searching for him is really a member of his clan, he doesn't like the idea of Leorio playing them just for the reward. (I like to think that Pairo's name and identity are unknown but the only released information to the public is that he's searching for his lost family member and willing to offer 2 Billion Jenny as a reward. Then there's a portrait of young Kurapika, and that is all the public knows)
Recognizing Kurapika's reluctance to go along with this scheme, Killua reminds Kurapika that this is his best option of finding out 1.) His identity (as he would still have the majority of his memory still forgotten) and 2.) The best option of getting Kurapika back with his family (when he does remember that's he's a Kurta member). So Kurapika does agree begrudgingly to fall in with Leorio's plot only for the sole purpose to get back to his last clansmen.
As in canon, I like to think that Kurapika is not a pleasant travel companion to Leorio. He mocks him, he makes jabs at Leorio whenever he can, and this is kind of Kurapika's way of soothing his own ill ease at being a part of this plot to trick Pairo into believing that he is who he's supposed to be. He enjoys Gon's company because Gon is a curious young man who has far more noble aspirations for going along with this plot than Leorio does.
It's a plus that Killua has grown fond of Gon.
I believe that Leorio would react to Kurapika and his behavior like he does in canon, violently and with great offense. However, they never actually come to blows over their bantering, just that the tension is so great that Killua and Gon feel they have to play referee when they go for each other's throats. However, as Kurapika begins to remember who he is, I like to think that he begins showing facets of vulnerability that tug at Leorio's innate protective nature.
Because Kurapika is remembering his past, he knows that Leorio is honestly bringing him to his last surviving Clansman, and as they've been traveling he has noticed that there is more to Leorio than what he lets on, so he softens toward Leorio, all the while Leorio is softening toward Kurapika.
They would still bicker and argue, but not at-your-throat kind of arguing. More like how they are toward the middle of the Hunter Exam Arc, where they tease and joke and poke fun at the other (like how horrified Kurapika looked when Menchi told him his sushi is just as good as Leorio's), but when they come into danger, they would die for the other (like how Leorio wanted to keep Kurapika and Gon out of the cave where the snakes were even as he knew he would die)
Because of this dynamic that they eventually develop deeper feelings for the other, in a slow burn sort of way. Something that they don't notice is happening until one or the other is in danger. With the Phantom Troupe out searching for Kurapika, there is a lot of danger to be felt. The only thing I would change between the film and this au is that Kurapika does not need to be rescued EVERY TIME, like Anya needed to.
After all, Leorio and Kurapika are both badasses, so it's more like they work together to deal with the Troupe's traps/assassination attempts rather than have Leorio/Dimitri have to come to Kurapika's/Anya's rescue at the last second. That whole damsel in distress thing is seriously overrated and would be OOC for Kurapika.
This is. Honestly so perfect I’m smiling like an idiot. Everything you say is completely spot on and how I would think the things would move on. And yup I totally agree with everything, every single details, this is all perfect.
I also think Kurapika can totally defend himself correctly, but yup, eventually I think that when they fight ~together~ they’re even better. Kurapika isn’t a damsell in distress and neither is Leorio, so it would be far more fitting to have them balancing each other on this point. (besides they have kids to take care of in this au. Kids that can kick ass themselves, but still.)
but gaah this is so good I don’t know what to add this is. Perfect. This is exactly how it would play out and this is just. So pure. Thank you so so so sos os so much omg

@ghostwriter24 replied to “@killuabs replied to “¦ okay I was thinking it as a joke because I saw...”
I picture Gon as Vlad, because Vlad is adorable and sweet and often Leorio's conscience. And he heard about Ging's last whereabouts were in Paris so he decided to tag along with Leorio. And Killua is the dog, because I believe Kurapika and Killua make a pretty awesome team.
you know what?? You’re entierely right??? This would be exactly how I pictured it (pls it means Killua and Gon would spend half the time cuddling so A++) and I can see Gon teaming up with Leorio for stuff like that (just look at how he stole Ponzo’s tag for Leorio).  And I agree that Killua and Kurapika makes an amazing team, I still cry over everything about it. So to make him human in that AU you can just say that Kurapika run into him when he was leaving the orphanage, like Killua is a runaway kid who just wanna go somewhere else and they decide to tag along since they both want to leave the country. (and when they’ll meet Leorio and Gon ofc he’d spend so much time with Gon rip).
this au is so good I still cry over it I ca nt be lieve

@ghostwriter24 replied to “@ghostwriter24 replied to “@killuabs replied to “¦ okay I was thinking...”
I can imagine Killua had heard through the grapevine about Leorio and Gon's plan and when he heard Kurapika murmuring about not wanting to work at the fish market, he offered the idea of getting out of the country through them, and Killua tagged along because he was heading that way in the first place. Bonus points because Kurapika provides good, intellectual company.
omgggg yes. Yes yes it’s entierely fitting. Also it means that eventually if they end up meeting Leorio and Gon and all, they will have to argue they need one more ticket to leave, and Leorio is. Not too hot with the idea. (the point is to get rich after all, and another ticket will be a pain to get with the very little money they have). Eventually it’s a combined effort of Kurapika who, likely, ended up caring about Killua enough to argue his case and basically saying “if he’s not going I’m not going.” (which would be a real shame because they never found before anyone who looked that close to the description of the last Kurta), and Gon who is totally against Leorio on this and just argues for Killua’s sake, saying that after all once Leorio gets the money it’s not like the supplementary ticket would matter.
and if Leorio and Killua have the same dynamic at the begining than at the begining of the manga/anime, Killua would mostly constantly calls him an old man and Leorio would spend a good part of the way to at least internally blame the other two for that (before of course ending up caring for Killua bc it’s Leorio we’re talking about)
I just. Really love this au aah

@ghostwriter24 replied to “@ghostwriter24 replied to “@ghostwriter24 replied to “@ghostwriter24...”
Perhaps it's not amnesia. Maybe it's a two-way street. Pairo knew that Kurapika was out there somewhere but might not have known how to find him, whereas Kurapika had heard from Killua about Leorio and Gon's plan and when Killua mentioned about the Kurta name, because it wasn't something just anyone would be familiar with, he decided to investigate to see if there was any truth to the idea one Kurta survived the massacre.
As for his eyes, I think Kurapika, if he did have amnesia at one point and began remembering things again, would just wear contact lenses just like in the York New arc.
The reason why I think Kurapika should keep his red eyes is because when Pairo and Kurapika reunite, he can use his eyes as proof of his identity. Although Kurapika's physical appearance hasn't changed much, because of Leorio's scheme, Pairo would still need at least some form of confirmation that Kurapika is who he says he is.
Although in canon, Kurapika's eyes turn red primarily because he's angry, he did mention Kurta clan members' eyes glowed red when they show a lot of emotion. So when he removes his contacts to show Pairo proof, they're not scarlet but actually more of a sweet, strawberry reddish-pink color because of his rush of relief and love and joy of finding Pairo alive.
I think there could be a vague legend about the Kurta clan's red eyes, but because no one has really seen a Kurta person with red eyes while they were still alive, I don't think Leorio would think to search for red eyes while holding auditions. Which keeps the authenticity and genuine relief Pairo feels when Kurapika reveals his red eyes to him because that would be one thing that no one could duplicate even if they did know.
And he may have kept to himself about it because he couldn’t be sure if the person who was looking for the Kurta was an actual family member or someone who would just be looking for him for money? Like, I’d totally see that if rumors about the Kurta surviving were to happen, especially post-massacre where it was proven that the eyes could really get you rich easily, if anyone was to look for the Kurta it would be far more likely that they’re doing it to kill the last survivors for the money. But it would also put oil on the fire on why Kurapika wouldn’t trust them with his identity per se and fake being oblivious about it, fake being an actor, as he’s trying to see if the lead is legit while also protecting himself. Also, for as long as Leorio mentions getting rich over it, even as he gets to trust him Kurapika would find it probably even harder to open up with “hey my eyes are worth multiple billions each” (even if during the trip Kurapika will learn that Leorio’s ambition to get rich are for much humbler reasons that Kurapika can’t help but respect, but it would be therefore a huge test of trust when Kurapika actually opens up about it).
and ye to me in any ways, Kurapika wouldn’t go out on travels without contact lense. With memories or not, his eyes while red are associated with the devil, so if memory loss, he may just try to protect himself and not scare people with his eyes. Which would be the loophole of the memoryloss plot if well, in the end he opens up about it to Leorio & cie, since he wouldn’t know all the others stuff that would have him protect himself at this point.
And I completely agree on the red eyes thing. First because you gave me the perfect justification to keep them (and I lo v e the red eyes so much) but also because it makes total sense and it would be the sweetest reunion there is. and I could see indeed Leorio rationalize that it must have just been a gossip, nothing too worth caring about (which would probably have Kurapika rolls his eyes like “if it wasn’t me you found you’d be in such trouble”)
ye I really like this whole justification akdhsjkdh I really really like it!! thanks :D

So, I just wanted your opinion. In the film, Rasputin makes three attempts at Anastasia, one involving personally going to kill her. So how do you suppose the Phantom Troupe would come after Kurapika and Co.? And which members should I include?
oooh Interesting thought.
So the thing is that, there’s also some purpose to that, especially the first attack - with what happened with the train, it allowed to the plot to have them spend more time together in more uncomfortable situation (like Camping, taking cars with random strangers, the boat ect) and therefore pass a little more time together and intereacting. So first incident would have to be a real unconveignance to have them spend some times together if you want.
Then it’s kinda tricky because in the movie, it’s only one badguy with magic, here it’s multiple members. First I think, they should have a reason to hunt down Kurapika in particular while so many people would fake being a Kurta, especially after they thought they killed them all. to them, likely, it’s kinda insulting that they didn’t kill /all/ the Kurta. But why would they try to go after Kurapika of all people knowing especially that Leorio is a con?
so eventually I could see a first attack to test out if Kurapika would be part of the Kurta too? and like, they wouldn’t try to kill him right away, they’d likely want his eyes too. so it might be more sneaky. The train incident, or its equivalent, could be to see what a Kurta would do in an extreme situation.
Usually, the troupe works in some sort of Group. I think that, of the troupe, those who’d come directly to fight would be Uvogin, maybe Nobunaga, Feitan? Phinks? I think? They’re kinda the most offencive ones, although Shal’ and Machi aren’t too bad either. I think especially on the first try to see if he’s a Kurta.
After, depending on how we keep/adapt the powers, Pakunoda could be also at least sent on the first attack to see if it’s the Kurta they’re looking for y’know? And Shal’ can be really useful to gather the informations and spy a bit on them too. (like maybe Shal thought it through by spying and then proposed to try an attack)
Then for the second attack it could be more personal, more with a real intend to kill. Which could be one of the trickest to deal with.
In the end I think the “one by himself” to come would be Chrollo, deciding to take an eye out by himself. (especially if say, Kurapika kills Uvogin in that AU too). I think Chrollo would be “the final boss” in a way
Also if you ever wanna re-use Hisoka, you can always say that Hisoka was taking part on the audition to eventually get to localize the Troupe and Chrollo. If ever ;O
But ye this is still kind of a hard one ajkdhsds
