"we don't want to give anybody sleepless nights"
my OFFICIAL ghostwatch trailer as a part of my campaign to get people to watch this movie that I like a whole lot
warning for spoilers!!! I tried my best to leave out the best parts of the movie so as to not give too much away but I couldn't resist adding in some of the really good parts
song is the end (instrumental) by the doors
movie is ghostwatch (1992), written by stephen volk and directed by lesley manning
ghostwatch is a mockumentary horror film aired by BBC1 on halloween night 1992. it was passed off as a live broadcast although it was filmed and produced much earlier
there were an estimated 1,000,000 calls to the BBC switchboard the night of the broadcast with viewers expressing outrage, praise, and genuine belief in what they were seeing
the show became incredibly controversial in the time following the original broadcast and the film's producers eventually issued an official apology for any emotional distress caused by the program
----
s/o capcut for letting me auto generate captions for free and thescriptsavant.com because I had no idea what pipes was saying in the bit with the tape recorder lol
#might come back and fix editing mistakes later. we will see#ghostwatch#ghostwatch 1992#bbc#horror#horror movies#90s#mockumentary#michael parkinson#sarah greene#british horror

The programme you're about to watch is a unique live investigation of the supernatural. It contains material which some viewers may find to be disturbing. No creaking gates, no Gothic towers, no shutter windows, yet, for the past 10 months, this house has been the focus of an astonishing barrage of supernatural activity. Ghostwatch (1992) dir. Lesley Manning

i don't watch a lot of movies, especially in the horror genre, but i would like to get into it, can you recommend smth for me to watch tonight?
some films id recommend starting with multiple sub-genres of horror-
The Wicker Man (1973, folk horror), Black Christmas (1974, slasher + holiday horror), Jaws (1975, sharks + summer/water horror), Alien (1979, sci-fi), The Thing (1982, body horror), Ghostwatch (1992, paranormal + found footage), Candyman (1992, romance + slasher), Scream (1996, slasher), Ginger Snaps (2000, werewolf), Shutter (2004, paranormal), You're Next (2011, home invasion), American Mary (2012, revenge + surgery), Creep (2014, found footage), Raw (2016, cannibalism), Get Out (2017, psychological), Happy Death Day (2017, slasher + comedy), Saint Maud (2019, religious), Lisa Frankenstein (2024, romcom)
#written in blood#gave at least one option for a lot of sub-genre's#not all of these are my top top favorites but i like them all/have fun with them all

Thirty One Days of Horror Movies! Day Thirteen! :D
Ghostwatch!
It's Halloween 1992 and in Britain the BBC are doing a very special live broadcast, covering the supposedly true supernatural events occuring at a seemingly ordinary house...the increasingly sinister actions of a spectre nicknamed "Pipes" by the family....but as the night goes on and more is learned about the cause of the haunting things go from strange to downright terrifying...
So for those who haven't heard of this before, Ghostwatch is famous/infamous for supposedly having a bit of a War of the Worlds effect...on its initial broadcast it was treated as if it was a genuine documentary/news report on an actual paranormal case, even using actual well known BBC tv presenters of the time playing themselves to make the whole thing seem more authentic
I don't know if that's true or just an urban legend but whether it genuinely fooled people or not, it certainly is a fun spooky treat for the season
The actors playing the family being besieged by ghostly acitivity do a very good job of making their emotions and reacions feel genuine and there are some genuinely creepy and eerie moments as the show goes on and events escalate
If your in the mood for some eerie creepypasta-ish spookyness this Halloween season, this makes for a very entertaining ghost story to watch

halloween recs 2024 🎃
more halloween/horror recs for you all!!! these are all movies that meet at least two (if not all) of my "halloween movie" criteria, which are as follows:
set in autumn or october specifically
features halloween decorations, or typical halloween activities such as pumpkin carving, trick or treating etc
features elements of the supernatural, especially typical "halloween" characters like ghosts, witches and vampires
gothic, scary, spooky or creepy
comedic or campy
not all of these are horror; not all of the "horror" movies are scary in any quantifiable way. movies that (i think) are suitable for people who have a fairly low horror tolerance will be marked with an asterisk (*). movies that are (generally regarded as) not scary at all will be marked with a double asterisk (**). Some absolute all timers for me are:

The Changeling (1980)
The Exorcist III (1990)
Ghostwatch (1992)
Hellraiser (1987)
Tenebrae (1982)
Hereditary (2018)
Lake Mungo (2008)
Martyrs (2008)
Noroi: The Curse (2005)
Possession (1981)
Ring (1998)
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Suspiria (2018)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986)
And I've gotta say that I also LOVED The First Omen! My expectations were in the fucking gutter and they really did pull something good outta the bag xx
