          bare arms are all over goosebumps, split lip the source of a steady flow of blood down her chin, chell limps determinedly on, eyes set on the horizon. re opened wounds were the least of her concerns -- for now, all she needed to do was find a place to rest, somewhere she could find shelter from the biting winds. as she walks, the world seems to fall silent: before her eyes, small flecks of white shower around her, first slowly, then in a flurry, faster and faster until they’re collecting in her hair and on her nose. frowning, she turns to the only available source of explanation -- another person, looking far less worried by the snow than she, and shrugs, looking for answers.

   ——   NIGHTMARES.

         lay on the side of a road, twitching and whimpering in her sleep like a dog, this is not the future imagined for one of the strongest minds at aperture. her head tucked between her elbows, chell opens one eye, eerily grey and glinting in the sun she had not seen for years. uncurling cautiously, she lets the warmth wash over her scars and bruises, still on her guard, staring into the face of her new company. quick analysis tells her that this is no local -- probably a runaway, intentional or not. shaking the sleep from her limbs, she stands to her full height, mouth set in a line. 

         nightmares of aperture are almost bittersweet -- the only home she remembers, yet the only prison she has ever known. each test was a chamber rife with its own tortures, and yet... there was a hole now that it had filled, an insatiable need to show her talents. the weight of the portal gun has finally been taken from her arms, but she feels too light, as if she will float away.    ❛  fine,  ❜    she croaks, voice gravelly and barely there, blown almost utterly from disuse.    ❛  th... thank -- you.  ❜    a phrase that had not crossed her mind in years.
