Ghost Trick x Transistor crossover AU

spoilers + details below

Maybe you're looking for someone to blame Fighting for air while you circle the drain

Lynne is still an intrepid detective on the heels of a major case - until she's framed for the murder of Sissel. Sissel is now a digital ghost trapped within the Transistor. Together the two strangers must work together to undo the string of murders occuring across town and find out what's going on until it's too late.

Ray is possessing one of the OVC terminals at the beginning of the game, and guides you to the sandbox rooms.

Sissel can still reverse time (or at least watch replays). The [now digital] assassins replace the Process types (eg. Jeegos, Beauties, Dandies...). Each resident ghost you encounter unlocks a new 'trick' type in the Transistor.

Missile joins you for some segments of your travels.

Yomiel was originally the lead engineer on the Transistor project, and is now using the assassins as part of a revenge plot on the city.

Cabanela and Jowd are part of the elite team investigating the secret "digital manipulator", although they don't realize they've been infiltrated from the inside... They are also tracking down Lynne.

The confrontation at the Empty Set is with possessed Kamilla (and actually the first confrontation with Yomiel).

The confrontations with Cabanela and Jowd mirror Chapter 15.

Yomiel has been spying on Cabanela and the team via the body of Sissel-the-cat.

The park is Transistor Park.

That's as much as I've thought out so far: would love to hear if anyone has additions to add on! There's so many fun parallels between these two games.

(Also have thoughts on the Transistor characters in the Ghost Trick universe, but that one still needs a bit more fleshing out.)

Missile the Dog (from Ghost Trick) was based on Shu Takumi's own dog Missile (from real life), which definitely makes the whole game a lot sweeter, but especially this character song written for Missile (from Ghost Trick), which was actually just full of anecdotes about the real Missile (mentions of his owner rewritten to be Kamilla notwithstanding).

Gonna ramble about my thoughts on Ghost Trick below the cut, spoiler warning if you decide to read!

I really love the animations in this game, and how some of them are really thought-out. The one that comes to mind first is Lynne carrying Kamilla in the submarine, where you can see how Lynne adjusts her grip to carry the kid one handed while holding out the flashlight. There's so much personality visible in each character and it brings them to life really well.

I also really liked how everyone in this game owns up to their mistakes and calls out their own recklessness, particularly Cabanela and Jowd. They acknowledge that the incident with Yomiel was caused by their inexperience and carelessness, and that was really cool to see two police officer characters do.

The 3D-esque artstyle was interesting, especially for a DS title. There were a few places where it fell (pardon the pun) kind of flat, like in the scene with Jowd in the submarine. Because the scenes are 2D it's hard to convey distance, so when characters stand in front of one another it piles up and looks awkward. Also you could see the textures on Jowd's prison jacket swap around when he turns, so that was odd.

The only character whose vibe I didn't quite understand was Cabanela's - is he supposed to be in a relationship with Lynne? Sometimes it felt like the game was implying they were a couple and sometimes it just felt like a mentorship. It was weird.

The controls... I played the Switch port, so everything was joysticks and buttons, and moving from place to place stopped feeling fun and fluid about half way through the game. It felt like once Missile showed up they artificially limited Sissel's movement. Even with Missile's increased range, moving got sticky sometimes because you can't move between objects that are the same shape, you can only swap them. I also found things like people got in the way a lot. Getting used to using Missile's powers was also tricky, and I really wish it hadn't been implemented during that park mission where there's a lot of quick things you gotta do. The number of times I fucked that level up because I hit the wrong button in the moment...

I also found some of the puzzles sort of convoluted, but that's probably just me. There were some puzzles where I had the right idea and if I'd pushed a little farther I could have figured it out, there were some puzzles where I was thinking in the right direction but was missing a step, and then there were puzzles where I looked at the walkthrough and went "and how the HELL was I supposed to figure THAT out?"

Speaking of, the twist ending felt unnecessary. I don't think we gained anything from Ray being Missile, and Sissel being a cat felt really cheap. I would have been happier with some bullshit "oh it's Yomiel from another universe" explanation. The second that kitten appeared in the flashback I said "oh, we're the fucking cat?". I think if there had been hints at the twist throughout the game other than just repeating over and over that Sissel isn't the man in red, or if we had seen the cat more often, it would have felt less random and thrown in. I would have been satisfied with Ray just being a mysterious spirit, too.

There were some questions the ending left me with that I think the game tried to answer but I didn't quite get. The biggest one is, are Yomiel and Sissel the only ones who remember the events of the game? Do the others keep their memories as well? If so, when do they kick in? Was Kamilla born knowing about her death in another timeline?

One other small thing I liked, to cap off - in the new future epilogue, the two spies from the restaurant just straight up die lmao

Overall a fun game! I originally played the demo on the DS back when the Wii still offered freebie demos like that and I'm glad I was finally able to play it. For a game of its age it held up quite well!

so briefly to discuss the main roles. chilchuck is yomiel, izutsumi is sissel, laois is lynne, falin is the equivalent of kamilla and marcille takes on the role of missile ! (thus, marcille is also ray, && i’ll elaborate on this later)

the plot is similar to ghost trick!! (…kinda) (not really)

brief plot overview!! it happens in a similar enough universe to ghost trick, but the races from dungeon meshi pass over . i don’t think there will be a dungeon but don’t quote me on that one

but Anyway um. yeah chilchuck got divorced by his wife and it was BAD his wife took the house took the kids he was SO fucked. he dropped out of his job (which was…ummm. engineering maybe, if not rogue ?) and entered a spiral of depression > drink to feel better > hangover > depression. he was quickly gaining an addiction . LUCKILY FOR HIM he had a bit more sense than his dunmeshi counterpart — enough to recognise that his reliance on alcohol was a Bad Thing — so, in order to Recover (or at least replace it with something) he adopted a cat ‼️ he named her izutsumi and they became best friends, especially since it was likely chilchuck wasn’t going to live much longer after she died (half foot lifespans)

a few months into this he was falsely accused of armed robbery . he already had a pretty bad reputation around the area for being somewhat of a lousy guy, so he was taken into questioning and then. yeah whatever happened with yomiel 👍 temsik meteor, holding lynne (or in this case laios) hostage, etc etc

you know how this goes . chilchuck got revenge on the officers who cornered him && now senshi is in prsion . yeag . he (senshi) had two wards under his care, who were laios and falin. they all also shared an apartment with falins VERY close friend marcille who was very intelligent but not wise at all !

the first loop happens, and marcille got stuck there but sticks with it in the hopes of saving falin (…why? what happened to falin. can anyone hear me the number of plot holes in my own au are astounding). she eventually took the form of a log with a small sprout at the end of it (a reference to her staff) . she calls herself ‘bud’ !

you know the rest. izutsumi wakes up, sees chilchucks body & assumes it is hers and continues on without knowing how to read. etc etc .

“what about the characters you haven’t mentioned?” i’m working on it 😭!! i’m thinking senshi is jowd, Maybe (if not obvious by the story overview). kiki is inspector cabanela, maybe, and namari and kaka are her Right Hand Detectives(TM) with varying amounts of respect for her (playful sibling rivalry vs. kikimari perhaps?), but that does leave the issue of ‘why does senshi know kiki???? hwhuh’. shirou is the justice minister, maybe??? inutade is also here in the form of a dobermann i think. somewhere . inutade izutsumi best friends every universe

THE GHOST TRICK REMASTER IS NOW PLAYABLE!!!

I've played this game a few times start to finish and its always been an amazing experience every time, and I can't recommend it enough! I would also like to note that if the remaster performs well enough the game's director Shu Takumi has said that a sequal could be possible!

I can't recommend this game enough and I hope everyone who is playing the game for the first time has an amazing experience💜

Hello there! My new life haws been alright so far. Less responsibilities and more sleeping. I also love the fact that I have all the people I met in my adventure around me. I did miss Yomiel when he was in jail and honestly my time wasn't bad when we two were a duo together, but I like how lively it is now. Even though I sleep most of the time.

As for the cores, I can see them all! In the same way I could still see Kamilla's core after we me and Missile prevented her death all together. Although I do avoid talking with them. I don't really want to freak them out.

Please take some candy, from the box here, and have a nice Halloween experience!

so this justice minister guy. certainly a character. dying in a funny position rip,,, but he wants the best for his daughter so tbh. i think that’s all good in the end

sissel doesn’t know what a kidnapping is either. im starting to wonder how this guy managed to seem like such a smooth criminal when he was alive, because he certainly seems to be missing a bunch of key elements in death. and so far even when people forget who they are, they dont forget what things are,,, mby the ghost trick powers scrambled his brain haha. he seems to have picked it up by the end though,,,,

and then again affirming that he can’t leave a lady in trouble. hmm. idk if he told lynne to shoot him which is my current theory. that’s a lot of trouble he’s put her in,,,,

and. oh my god. so for ch. 11 when it said “we’ll need to make a new core” i fr thought it meant they wanted me to KILL this blue guy to reach the crate??? bc i was gettin the same vibes as the goldberg machine from back in the beginning. and dude i almost wish they did i was losing my mind a lil. but no we’re just droppin the clock

and oh man. kamilla. poor girlie killed her mother?? i guess if she told lynne that it would explain why lynne’s so determined jowd didn’t do it,,,, and explains why he never tried to get anyone else to come forwards. but it does make it incredibly hard to clear his name also,,, man

and cabanela is a funny guy fr im obsessed with his drawn out animations. how much of the budget went into this guy alone lmao

and it sounds like reuniting amelie w her dad has resulted in some good changes but! im mostly fixated on how sissel’s got “family” in quotes. does he have a tragic backstory,,,,

ive gotten through the first two chapters so far,,,, there’s already been a kitty and a puppy. does the dog die is a yes but you bring him back so its okay. i want the black kitty that stepped on my corpse to come back like hi baby let me pet you pleeease

also i love that we’re pulling no punches with the killing people thing. there’s no beating around the bush with it which is refreshing. everyone’s dyin everywhere,,, and its not just the good guys we’re immediately right off the bat killin jeego. squashed. i would imagine tengo is in for a similar fate but like,,, man. also funny that we immediately assume that this is simply the right thing to do. not bc killing people bad or anything just bc a girl is in trouble. ik the real motivation is to find the truth and all,,, but its funny to think that sissel simply believes women can do no wrong

ray is also v interesting. the lampshade thing is really kinda cute im ngl. curious how he’s(?) gonna come back into play. he’s actin like he’s been around the block for quiiite a while,,,, but he must’ve died the same day, right? because the soul disappearing when the sun goes up stipulation,,,, that’s gotta apply to him too right? though i guess in fairness if he’s also got these ghost tricks. he may very well have been going back and forth in time and all,,,, and may very well have been around the block quiiiite a few times. cant wait to see what’s the what tbh
