10. House of the Rising Sun by alt-J. The original is not a particularly ghostly song but I'm confident this cover matches the vibe of everything else on the playlist.

9. Heathens by Blondfire. I definitely prefer the Twenty One Pilots version of this song but this cover is absolutely the most fitting for a ghostkin playlist.

8. April to Death by Flower Face. I'm honestly apprehensive to summarise this one because I know I won't convey the nuances of the lyrics. In short it's about being deeply in love with someone who'll absolutely be the death of you. It's a song I'll recommend regardless of theme but the acoustic guitar and Flower Face's ethereal vocals create that sense of detachment familiar with most ghostkin content.

7. song for my lost ghost friends by spellcasting. I hesitated putting this one in at first but I think it's just such a calming and sweet instrumental piece. It has the same heart as indie game soundtracks - a lot of spellcasting's work does!

6. Derealization by Bambi Baker. This song was brought to me through a response to my last ask game from a ghostkin. This song perfectly represents that boundary between the living & the dead. A lot of undeadkins (including myself) and kins as a whole struggle with dissociation & related conditions so the mental health topics in this one may also strike a chord with you.

5. My Name by Charlie Winston. This isn't necessarily the most fitting for a ghost playlist but it's a real all-time favourite of mine. I would consider it fitting through the death & biblical motifs. It's a grand theatrical number & makes me think of a Disney villain! I actually found it through a Halloween fan animatic.

4. Nothing Matters When We're Dancing by The Magnetic Fields. This is such a warm and cosy post-apocalypse vibe - if that exists. The world is crashing down around us and we're destined for death but we're going to have one last dance.

3. When I'm Small by Phantogram. It fits that otherworldly sound I've been threading throughout this. The lyrics themselves (in my opinion) reference themes of grief and being stuck between the living and the dead. It's sort of a dreamy electronic pop song... in all honesty I'm bad at labelling genres. Either way, I love this one.

2. Sour Switchblade by Elita. I found this song recommended to me off of listening to Grimes, if that tells you anything about the genre. I can't quite describe to you why this is a ghost song but it has the right liminal feeling and dark grungy aesthetic to it.

1. Dance Macabre by Ghost. A ghostkin song list without the band ghost? Never! I also like to include a rock or metal selection on all of these so... here ya go! A bit of a metal, ghost love ballad.

Supernatural: Nevermore

Review time! I actually finished reading this a while ago and just didn't get around to posting the review, but here you go!

Summary:

Sam and Dean go to New York to help a friend of Ash with a ghost problem. Said friend is a rocker with a music collection that Dean totally freaks over (further down in this review I have a songlist of the mentioned music, too) and they get to stay at that guy's place while taking care of the problem. There is also a murder spree based on the works of Edgar Allen Poe going on in the area and the boys are solving two cases parallelly.

My experience:

I loved this. It was so fun, the vibe was great, i had a great time! This is actually the first book in the series and I should have read it before witchs canyon, but it doesnt matter too much.

Also, the book starts on a 12th of november, wich is my birthday, so thats cool.

Flower Face: an Elain Archeron playlist

This is my love letter to Elain Archeron, my interpretation of what she sounds like were she to exist as music. Consider this more as an experience and less a list of songs with lyrics that relate to Elain. @elainarcheronweek

My Elain is made up in part of deeply personal headcanons, plus versions of her in works by @bloomingdarkgarden (What Bloomed in the Dark Garden) and @thefangirlofhp (sillage). She is Danielle De Barbarac, a quiet girl with a rich internal world and a heart capable of feeling every emotion ten fold. She has one foot in The Dreaming world of the mystics, and one foot in her rapidly evolving life in Velaris. She wants to be seen for who she is and loved for who she is, gardening-scarred hands and all. She quietly yearns for someone she can't have, never once sharing her woes with any of her sisters. She brings things to life and values learning, creation, travel. This is a musical journey that represents my interpretation of Elain's soul, her internal world, her life in Velaris, her hopes for the future. (It is Elriel leaning, as a disclaimer, because ... I simply cannot help it.) I started off the journey with nature sounds, because Elain is so deeply tied to the land in my mind, and with lush, atmospheric music representing how she presents to the world. As the list goes on, we go deeper and more secrets are revealed until the songs become almost entirely instrumental (moody and brooding in nature to represent an emotional landscape). There are songs in different languages or without words entirely, to represent her displacement into an unfamiliar land, in a changed body, and the uprooting of her ingrained beliefs about that land and the creatures living there; about her integration into the Night Court and her insistence that she belongs. It ends with her prayer to The Mother.

Been keeping an eye on KANATA since Polyhedron, mirror surface, and this is a very nice use of him! Also my first experience with this producer, I'll be keeping an eye on them.

This Vocaduo team living up to their name of uplifting DnB. I've always been fond of human/vsynth duets, and amidst the many human/vsynth split versions that Vocaduo is full of, I'm happy to find a proper duet.

Cute and calming song. I've always liked this producer's Yukari, real breathy and whispery.

Mao: I haven't turned it around yet, so don't let your guard down. Even with that much tailwind, I'd say it was split pretty evenly. As expected of Knights, they really are a strong enemy.

However. This outdoor stage is in a remote place, there isn't a lot of audience in the first place. No one really comes to this corner of Yumenosaki Academy after all.

The people gathered here are almost all people that the transfer student called here, they're our audience. As long as we do our best without letting our guard down, I'm sure we can win!

Fluff #10: “I think I’m in love with you.”

Word Count: 699

Dabi never really understood even a skewed definition of the word “love.” It was something as foreign to him as being able to look up to heroes, bathe, and even function as a normal person. It wasn’t ever something he thought was a necessity to life, as something that really mattered, something he couldn’t live without.

Sure, read the definition in a dictionary as he may, but that’s like reading an article or book on a historical event that happened a thousand years ago. Read about it as he may, that doesn’t mean Dabi will understand what it’s like to experience that event. Having a “dictionary definition” of something and a “life experience” of something were two wholly different things.

When Dabi first met you, you were “just another” of a sorts, someone whom he didn’t expect to have any impact on him. But as he got to know you, he realised you were special. You were someone who made him actually crack a genuine grin when you joked around and showed off a kind of dorkiness that he secretly adored, someone who never hesitated to help him disinfect, replace, and even add staples, someone who never once winced at his appearance. That meant more to him than he could really admit.

And more often than he would care to admit, he let you drag him around by the wrist to whatever form of entertainment you chose for the evening. He’d pretend to put up a fight (sometimes not pretending), though in the end he would “begrudgingly” agree. Whatever form of torture you picked out was worth the gleam in your eye and the grin of your lips between two happy cheeks. Even karaoke.

“You’re gonna have to get a few more shots in me before I’ll even consider touchin’ that mic, doll.”

Your pout has his eyes crinkling. You were always too cute for your own good. “Please, Dabi? For me?” You give him the sweetest eyes you can manage, not that you have to try hard.

“Nope. Sorry, babe.”

You blow raspberries at him and skip over to select a different song, your little heart fluttering at the nickname. “Doll” never got to you for some reason, but when Dabi called you “babe,” your heart sung. It wasn’t fair, the effect he had on you. You weren’t a couple, but for you the idea wasn’t out of the question.

As you peruse the songlist, Dabi pries himself off the sofa and makes his way behind you slightly, looking over your right shoulder at your choice. “Mm, no, you oughtta do this one,” he says plainly, reaching for the screen with his right hand, leaning into you as he does so to enable his reach. Subconsciously his left hand ghosts over the middle of your back.

“But I wanna do this one-”

“This one suits you better, though,” he argues. The song you’d picked out was a little edgy and if Dabi was being honest, you didn’t really strike him as all that edgy. (Maybe you were, just not by his standards...)

You jerk your head to give him a glare and a strict talking-to, but stop when you suddenly feel like a hormonal teenager having crushes left and right, suddenly reliving your early teen years at the close proximity between your face and Dabi’s. Breath caught in your throat and words stuck in your stomach, you stare at him.

“What’re you gawkin’ at?”

You blink at him, and apparently your mouth moves and you say something, because his face goes pale and shows the highest saturation of shock you’d ever seen on Dabi’s face. He blinks at you, you blink at him.

“What?”

You said it before you even realised it. No taking it back, now. “I s-said, I...” You’ve been accidentally grazed by Dabi’s flames before, and they don’t even compare to the flush rising to your cheeks right now. “I think I’m in love with you.”

As always, he’s quick to recover. “Do you, now?”

You nod.

Dabi never had a good definition of the word “love,” nor did he really know what it was like.

Maybe this wasn’t so bad a place to start.

10 Fave Werewolf Songs 🌙

10. Werewolf by Motionless in White. Because a lot of the later songs are a little calmer, I had to add in some rock! This fully encompasses werewolf rage & hunting instincts at their core.

9. I Was A Teenage Werewolf by The Cramps. This is on every werewolf playlist ever but who am I to break tradition? As a teenage werewolf myself, it's still a good song.

8. Wolf by AlicebanD. I'll admit this one is mostly here by name but it's so frantic and high energy and sounds like going utterly insane and I love it.

7. Werewolf Baby! by Rob Zombie. If I could actually transform into a wolfman this is what would be playing as a rampage through the woods. Rob Zombie never misses.

6. Werewolf by Cat Power. A beautiful and atmospheric human x werewolf song about isolation and secrecy.

5. Werewolfe by Scary Bitches. I think you just have to experience this one for yourself.

4. Lavender Moon by Haroula Rose. I'm not sure what lo-fi werewolf music would sound like, but I'm going to say this is the closest thing.

3. The Killing Moon by Echo & the Bunnymen. I have really fond memories of listening to this song waiting to board a ferry to Ireland on my way to visit family. It's also my go-to song for staring longingly at the moon and stars (and one of my maladaptive daydreaming songs).

2. Hunter's Moon by Ghost. It's my favourite ghost song and it has moon in the name! No but on a serious note his voice has the perfect wolfy growl and the lyrics somewhat reference werewolf amnesia. I'm a sucker for songs that tell a story... especially about revenge! I also associate it with one of my blorbos so...

1. Werewolf Heart by Dead Man's Bones. Dead Man's Bones is my favourite band of all time so it had to be #1 on this list. This song and the entire album it comes from is a masterpiece in gothic music. I encourage everyone to check this one out!

Honourable Mention: Give That Wolf A Banana by Subwoolfer. This link leads to Youtube because you simply have to see the performance! How could I ever make a werewolf songlist and leave this beautiful creation out?

This week’s horror movie rec is A Tale of Two Sisters (2003). One of my personal favorites! This South Korean psychological horror film explores a family’s dark and haunting past.
