People are way to normal about Davrin
Hes a DALISH GREY WARDEN with a baby griffin in its ugly teenager stage voiced by Martin Manhunter.
We should all be holding onto our asses hyped about him

dude they were toying with the idea of a whole thing with magical mimics, like chairs that open up and bite you, or fake loot chests that reveal monsters.
there's an idea that is a monster that looks like a beggar in rags but if you get too close to this "npc" it reveals itself to be, no joke, three spiders in a sheet.
and from an accessibility angle I can see why they cut that. it would be hard to arachnophobia-proof that idea. on the other hand... that's so funny and they should have done it

Interesting tidbits I noticed in the new trailer!
Tumblr media
This image is likely the fade version of the ritual site we disrupt. Could it be the Black city? Its certainly dark enough and one of the theories is that it was originally Arlathan (ancient elven main city).
Tumblr media
This could be Ghilian'nain but my mind went to Cetorax first - a horribly "sea smelling" creature mentioned in Tevinter nights, which lived under Minrathous and had tentacles. (also ate people). Location seems to fit.
Tumblr media
Notice the dragon flying in the down right corner. Also, the snow + wood roads remind me of beginning of Inquisition and Haven. Possibly Frostback mountains?
Tumblr media
This could be a random victim, but the man bun makes me think Felassan - the dreamer agent who worked for Solas in the book Masked Empire. https://dragonage.fandom.com/wiki/Felassan
Tumblr media
Notice the shields in the corner - the group approaching the gods likely isn't our group but Grey Wardens, based on the griffon symbol. Also, there seems to be a figure holding Ghilain'nain's thighs. Is it part of her?
Tumblr media
This dragon doesn't seem blighted. It could be just an "ordinary" one, but what if its the dragon form of Morrigan or Guardian of Mythal?
Tumblr media
I am pretty sure this is our first look at Anderfells.
Tumblr media
Davrin is accompanied by a child/teen (?). I don't think the dimensions work for it to be a dwarf. Considering her skin color and the fact we don't see her ears, could this be his daughter? (or another relative?)
Tumblr media
Lucanis with a mage (?). I think this is from Lucanis' story quest and its the Tevinter magister planning to kill him, the one mentioned in Tevinter Nights as his next target.
Tumblr media
Neve's personal quest? At first I thought it was some corrupted version of Rook, but he is standing behind her. A new dude then (and his beard is different), seems corrupted by Red Lyrium.
Tumblr media
This is not Neve, since she has a vallasin. I am fairly sure its Irelin, member of the Veil Jumpers who appeared in Tevinter Nights. https://dragonage.fandom.com/wiki/Irelin
What do you think? Did you also catch anything interesting?

I'm sure other people have already said this and will continue to say so in more eloquent ways going forward, but the inquisitor really is a far better foil to Solas than Rook, whether friended, romanced, rivaled, or none of the above. The inquisitor is someone pushed into a difficult position, who chose to take on a leadership role they maybe weren't ready for because they felt they needed to for the greater good, and was then hit with decision after world-altering decision. Side with the mages or the templars in an ongoing war. Choose whether to let them join you as allies or forced conscripts. Decide what happens to the Grey Wardens, an organization centuries old and possibly critical to Thedas' defense but also possibly incurably corrupt. Pass judgement on Blackwall, on Florianne, on Erimond, on Warden Ruth. Are you going to claim the mantle of the Herald of Andraste or not? Too bad, the people around you have already decided that's what you are, what they need you to be. Prioritize: Saving a group of people close to one of your friends (possibly your lover), or saving an alliance with a world power who may help you save the world. Sit in your castle and manage these hundreds or thousands of troops who are now ardently devoted to your cause, willing and even eager to kill and die in your name. Inquisitor would you--? Inquisitor, what do you think about--? Inquisitor, we need--!
And people will be angry with you about these decisions! They all have opinions about how the world should be and if you act in opposition to those they will not hesitate to express their displeasure. You cannot make a decision on the Grey Wardens that both Blackwall and Solas will approve of.
The inquisitor little by little is forced into leadership beyond what they likely ever intended, and the consequences of their actions will ring across southern Thedas for years, possibly generations, and they will have to live with choices they made in the throes of a desperate war for survival, and so will everyone else.
By contrast, Rook primarily deals only with their small circle of friends and rarely makes any significant decisions outside of saving Minrathous or Treviso (which was not much of a choice--obviously they can't be in two places at once, so one city is going down no matter what) and there are no real consequences to any of their choices, besides the first one--disrupting Solas' ritual and unleashing Elgar'nan and Ghilain'nain, something no one ever blames them for. They complete their entire quest to stop Solas without ever commanding or being responsible for more than seven people and are never pressed into having to make a truly difficult or unwinnable choice. Rook doesn't know what it's like to even be in the inquisitor's position, let alone Solas'.

veilguard spoilers review
Part 1 of review (up to mid Act 2)
6.5/10 - it'll be a fine, even fun, game for newcomers but for old dragon age players who want some actual dragon age in their veilguard? if you squint a bit at some codex entries, and only focus on the dread wolf part of the story.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and i AM LOOKING (then the artbook killed me thanks matt rhodes)
so any way......
1/ Rook and Companions
Tumblr media
i really wanted to love the new cast but the characters were not clicking for me (or my rook). idk if it's because we can't initiate convos like we could in dai but it really felt like rook was looking in at the companions from outside. everyone else is having fun existing in thedas but rook is an outsider (unless that's the writer's intent? parallels with how solas COULDN'T MAKE FRIENDS FOR 1000s OF YEARS.............
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In DAI, we could argue and banter when quizzy initiate convo about various topics back in haven or skyhold. the companions banter and argue about things they disagree with. In VG, WE DON'T. the closest i felt we could get a bit of that was when my rook told neve to get off my back about minrathous (because they did not regret a thing but i couldn't tell her that). Or certain sass/pragmatic dialogue options with solas, e.g. my rook consistently shared nothing with solas (or as much as i could avoid), and solas dropped the line about oh but you have varric WHICH KILLED ME.
2/ Evanuris & Titans
We had some world-shattering revelations in this game, that I wanted yes, but the companions or the world don't.......... really........ react to it. No POV of the chantry(s) imploding at the lore implications, no civilians going we must raze the chantry to the ground, no elves looking at Elgar'nan and going yes that's our All-father coming to burn you humans for everything you did. (Although the party did ask the elves, Bellara + Davrin + Rook, about the spirit revelation.)
I know Isen (my city elf/veil jumper rook) was shaken during Blood of Arlathan, they would be genuinely tempted by offers of uplifting elves to greatness because the alternative is slavery or alienages. But nada.
Blood of Arlathan Elgar'nan you will always be my fav!!! Because if you were expecting more after that, I'm sorry, man's on a downward spiral since he lost his sister. We had to put old peepaw down.
BTW Maybe check out the tree in the crossroads to eavesdrop on Ghilly and Elgar, because the game doesn't give us any other way to find out who the remaining two Evanuris are besides codex entries. :(
---
The Titans were covered only in Solas' murals and Harding's personal quest, which takes us to a corner of Kal-Sharok once then never letting us visit again. I had to read the artbook for the actual genesis of the world stuff about the Titans and what that was about. That was only alluded to in the game itself.
3/ Combat Scaling
Combat took a bit to take to, but it was fun. I played a Spellblade because that was the closest to Knight Enchanter/melee mage. The mini-bosses were difficult since you can run into them severely under-levelled on the regular maps. The high dragons were easy because they ALL had the same attack pattern, just had a lot of health to chip away at. Even Mythal Dragon. Which made the fight with Ghilain'nain and Elgar'nan underwhelming as hell, when they took less time to kill than the mini-bosses.
4/ Romance (Bellara)
i can only talk about Bellara's romance since i've only finished hers, even though I flirted with Davrin and Lucanis all through act 2. she's a very awkward character, and her response to the flirt options reads as ACE to me, but the romance culminates in sex.
okay so, most of the flirt options are quite platonic in tone like encouraging her to talk about her research or telling her you like to spend time with her. things like "i trust you know what you're doing" makes her...... fall in love..... with rook.......... even though rook's the mediator and therapist of the whole veilguard. i don't understand but i went with it, although i was having more fun watching rook banter and flirt with Davrin.
she's had past (failed) relationships but her reference for sex/romantic relationships is fiction/serials to be exact. you see where i'm going here???
then the romance scene after rook comes back from the fade plays out and i'm like??????????? i love her vow of love in elven, nice touch, but ummm i don't have the option to not want sex? i didn't even think she was interested in any of that in the first place!
Then that was it, we don't get a proper send-off to the veilguard romance just one line in the credits scene. Even BG3 gets an afterparty set up by Withers, buggy as it is, but still a nice touching wrap to the entire adventure.
5/ Bugs & Glitches
I was lucky I didn't get any major game-breaking stuff, just a couple of clipping issues through the game.
then, I reached the FINAL SCENE OF THE ENTIRE GAME for the first time. my inquisitor arrived with the wrong face model and vallaslin that was not supposed to be there.............. at least they got her hair colour right? By the time I finished the game, and the marvel-esque credits rolled, I wanted to murder. Then I loaded the game to fight Solas just to feel something. Adios Asshole.
Tumblr media
6/ Factions
What else can I say about factions that everyone else have already touched upon? They're very shallow insights into the world of Thedas for returning players, there aren't enough of Dragon Age in Dragon Age.
I do like Arlathan, very Annihilation-Shimmer kind of horror happening in there. I have some questions about the Veil Jumpers taking in non-elves and them being around Arlathan/elven history though............. we're just letting anyone join the Dalish now or???
Also Hossberg became my fav when I finished Davrin's quest. There was a despair demon that I ran into in the Ice/Fire dragon area, and it became a spirit of compassion/hope (?) again after the Isseya quest and the flowers return. The small things that turn utter despair into hope and will to keep going got me..........
AND THEN the Treviso/Minrathous choice. It was too easy playing as a Elf Mage, because the venatori-run Minrathous was more aligned to the Tevinter that I know it was from past games. In fact, I was actively sabotaging Minrathous every chance I got RPing my elf rook who was a Tevinter slave before joining the dalish.............. Not that it matters, since Elgar'nan obliterated the magisterium and the venatori and probably the entire city with blight by the end.
Tumblr media
7/ Identity Crisis
You can tell from the writing and breadth of the game, Veilguard has been through development hell and back. Looking at the stuff from the artbook only confirms that for me. Ideas were played around for Veilguard to be an actual sequel to Inquisition, since the hook for this game was Trespasser. But now, there's some disconnect.
The Inquisitor's (disbanded or not) presence and relevance is severely diminished in-game, it's especially glaring during the final battle sequence. All the factions + Morrigan are fighting but Quizzy is nowhere to be found. A romanced Lavellan even less so, since the Mythal option is the same with a friendly Inquisitor, and the only thing that change is whether Solas is alone in the end. (Love that for my Miha but ummm..... she's a cameo in a story that she's heavily involved in.)
There's barely any substantial connective tissue between Veilguard and the rest of Dragon Age and this is how they're sending off this storyline that started in DAO? Before trying to move on beyond towards the Devouring Storm and Executors bullshit? I'm mentally exhausted just trying to connect the pieces we actually got to the rest of Thedas and you're telling me this shit doesn't matter anyway............................ could have given me the Tear Down the Veil option since we're doing that with the writing.
Tumblr media
So when the marvel style credits scene started playing, like woah look at the dreadwolf vs lusacan over some modern song/music, i just about died. Solas and Elgar'nan was barely in the game about them, a huge chunk of the quests were about the companions and factions. The most interesting part of the game was Blood of Arlathan when the gorls were fighting in my head, because it was fun trying to figure out what were lies and what really happened with Solas & the Evanuris. They were both appealing to Rook to see their POV and join their side, throwing allies into the blender when it suits them, it's so fascinating they have the same methods and the same goal: bringing back Elvhenan. Just different motivations for doing so. Elgar'nan saw Solas as the hypocrite he is (I love him, he's fascinating) and Solas sees Elgar'nan as a dark mirror. I'm on board! Where's the rest of it???????
Because there's no rest of it. The next time they meet, Solas kills the Archdemon >> goes haha elgar you're mortal now pls die >>> Elgar dies, leaving Solas the actual last standing Evanuris.
(I'll leave the Mythal stuff for later, I've drafted another post talking about her.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Conclusion/
There were some great moments that survived the development hell like Solas' inevitable betrayal(s), some companion questlines, bits of Evanuris lore, the actual Dread Wolf, and.... the regret theme surrounding all the companions, Rook, Solas and to some extent, the Evanuris. You'll have a better and fun time crying going through the artbook, but none of those are technically canon since they're just concepts during the development phase.
The combat was fun, but Dragon Age was an RPG not an action-RPG. The writing is more important, even if this game has beautiful locales and hair physics. Music was boring, but did appreciate the return of the Lost Elf motif for the ending. Makes me want to go back and play Inquisition instead :Db
P.S. Tearstone Island was so mind-numbingly boring, but was redeemed by the Fade Prison Betrayal that followed. (My Rook doesn't regret all those choices though, sorry I thought we all knew the risks when we signed up for this :T) I endured the boring act 3 to give my daughter her ending, and the inquisitor doesn't even react to the DREAD WOLF outside her window................ I HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING MYSELF AROUND HERE.

While I understand and agree the vallaslin worn by the dalish shouldn't have the same effect as the one given my the evanuris to the ancient elves, I still think it could have had an effect because isn't that just how magic works in thedas? It's not an exact science, wherever the fade is involved intent and belief matters too. If you believe you're connected to the gods and you perform a blood ritual to seal it, wouldn't you be? Even a little bit?
As a wearer of the halla-mother's vallaslin I think Merrill would feel her calling to her. Besides being the mother of halla, ghilain'nain is a guide making sure lost hunters find their way back to their clans. While she doesn't have the power to force them, she'd be calling her faithful home.

Wip Wednesday
@ofcrowsanddragons tagged me in WIP Wednesday! Thank you for the tag! I don't have a lot to share this week, but! Here's a couple little things.
The first one started as a joke post in discord about an idea for a Qunari Rook who was technically an early ghilain'nain experiment to bind a dragon. It has since become a serious thing that I kind of want to explore more of, but here's the post that inspired it:
Morrigan, carrying the ancient elven god mythal: aren't u technically the first archdemon?
Rook, who has just been vibing as a Grey warden since waking up to the world on fire: am I? -squeaky bad liar voice-
And this is a wip that's also in discord of a 'Rook confronting Solas in Minrathous' pre-fight scene.
"Y'know," Rook muses as he wipes the blood from his nose and spits, "I might've been willing to give you a chance even after all this."
"Oh? And what changed your mind then?" Solas asks back in his infuriatingly condescending tone. He's watching Rook with his hands clasped behind his back, like Rook is no more than an inconvenience.
"Lucanis," he hisses. "Shouldn't have used him in your trap. Promised 'im if any of you fucking gods even so much as touched him, death would be the least of your problems. An' you made me think he was dead." And he'd put that shattered-glass tone in Lucanis's voice when he'd said 'I thought I'd lost you, Rook. All I had left was the fight.'
"How...Mundane of you."
Rook grinned bloody at him. Maybe the wolf in him would see it for what it was: a baring of teeth. "I"m a simple guy."

thoughts on DATV - TL;DR i liked it and my issues are secondary to my enjoyment but i always love a mini essay...
a lot of this will be critique. it is also broken down by topic. spoilers below!
also apparently i'm updating this every time i think of something. eek!
Story Stuff
The Name Change (From Dreadwolf to Veilguard)
"We changed the name because the game is not about Solas." What did they mean by this? This was the Solas game - everything ties to him! Also Solas kinda is "the veilguard" since his life is tied to the veil so even then, really Makes You Think....
The Story Itself
Story was fine. The theme of choices was nice and how it tied to Solas/Rook and their mirror dynamic was also interesting. The strongest parts came from the lore drops. More people should have treated Rook like a flat earther for saying all that stuff with no proof. Ghilain'nain was more interesting/terrifying to me than Elgar'nan so his boss fight, while fun, was pretty ehh emotionally compared to fighting her Archdemon. I ended the game fairly satisfied with what I played.
(I also would have loved a bit more about Elgar'nan and Ghilain'nain's relationship! They're so interesting.)
The opening of the game was the weakest and I believe the end was the strongest. I wish the beginning didn't feel like such a slog - but sometimes you have to wade through mid to get to the juicy bits.
Rook
I liked Rook. I'm not bothered by a protag with a set personality. I heavily headcanon the things I don't like that they say so that is not make or break to ME. What did bother me (which I'll talk more about in the companion section) is how separated they felt from their companions compared to all of the previous games. This is partially because of the lack of dialogue trees and also the way the companions interact with each other.
The Inquisitor
I believe the game would have benefited if the Inquisitor was more heavily involved - as an advisor, as a secondary protagonist, etc. This is because they are an integral part of getting the good/true ending - Rook uses them as an emotional battering ram, whether they were friends with him or his romance partner.
Rook (at least to me) does not have the emotional ties to Solas to believably care about his redemption. All we have now is the Inquisitor going "he's my friend...." which might have more weight had the Inquisitor been advising them instead of just being in a handful of scenes. Solas has done nothing but lie to Rook and put them in fade prison. Why should they care? Give me more to justify this other than whatever feelings I may/may not have about Solas based on the previous game.
The Ending
The ending cutscene felt like The End of Dragon Age. It felt like saying goodbye and that was very bittersweet to me... until the secret ending came up. It felt like a complete tonal shift and I'm not gonna lie - I did not like that. "Ohh secret figures who have been influencing the world the whole time." It was very weak after a cutscene that emotionally wrecked me.
Maybe if DA5 happens we'll be elsewhere - somewhere not on Thedas. I'd like to give them a break after the Superblight. Maybe we'll learn more about the Qunari and the first expedition and whatever the fuck made them leave and wind up on Thedas. Anything other than the secret figures.
Companions & Romance
I loved the companions and how they were used. They were establishing relationships outside of Rook in ways I haven't seen in the previous games. I appreciate that because it feels less like a team that is solely held together by their relationships with the protagonist.
Ironically, the connections between companions made Rook feel less connected to all of them. The Varric thing only works because no one properly checks in on them. They've got a book club going on that Rook is not in. There is more reaction to companion/companion or npc/companion romance than to Rook and their romance partner.
I also do wish I got more from the companions. I like dialogue trees and asking questions outside of the cutscenes. It sometimes felt like their whole self was wrapped around their personal quest. I miss being able to walk up to companions and ask them question after question and learning things about them outside of whatever is going on in their personal quests that way.
Quick thought on romance: Overhyped in pre-release materials. Not bad, just not nearly as much content as I thought I'd get with the way they talked about it being "the most romantic" DA had ever been.
Lore Stuff
The Elves and the Dwarves
This game finally gave me answers for the mysteries around dwarven lore, which was sorely lacking throughout the franchise. Since we've learned so much about elves and their history I'm not sure how I feel about dwarven lore being directly tied to them. It made me so excited to learn and I ultimately do like this lore, but I was also kind of hoping that whatever happened with the Titans was isolated from other things going on.
Speaking of, the elves in our party (and those outside of it) are not given emotional beats to digest all of this. Why? Core belief systems are being challenged and it feels like people are just accepting it. Harding's lyrium twin has a whole breakdown and the most we get from Bellara is her wondering if their history is worth remembering (don't like that I can influence her choice here).
I have not finished my dwarf run as of writing this, but I hope dwarven Rook gets a chance to confront Solas or the other two about it.
The Elven Gods & Faith in Thedas
This makes me feel CRAZY. The Golden City is an actual building. The Tevinter "old Gods" where the elven gods whispering at them to try and free them. I loved this lore! Every faith system in Thedas is falling apart and it's all built on the elves! Truly flavorful.
The Gay People In My Eluvian
In some previous DA games, your protagonist & their companions could be the only LGBT+ people you ever meet (DA2 was crazy for hiding Anders' relationship with Karl from FemHawke). In this game, you have Flynn who uses they/them pronouns, you meet trans characters in the Shadow Dragons, your companions can get into gay relationships or had them in the past - it makes the "playersexual" (hate that term) companions feels less like a game mechanic to maximize romance potential and more like an active choice.
Race in Thedas (and in our world)
I've seen many people say that the racism in Tevinter was de-fanged. This does not bother me because I do not like being called fantasy slurs (part of the reason I mainly play humans), but I think it could also be the area of Tevinter we're in. We're hanging around a place where the Shadow Dragons operate. They fight slavery, blood magic, all kinds of ills. Could it be that they are having a positive influence?
(but this post describes the issues with how DATV incorporated race)
My main concerns are the ways IRL racism mixes in. The outfit they have Isabela in is orientalist. Taash's Rivaini Hero armor is orientalist. Everything about the Antaam feels racial as hell. Rook can't be darkskinned (the darkest you can get is brownskinned). It is disappointing to see the care they put into gender/sexuality and how it is represented only to not do the same with race.
Antivan Crows
I think having this organization be one that is staunchly patriotic would have been interesting if, but can we get an explanation as to why/how they ended up this way? Someone who has not played any of the previous game would have no idea this organization buys and sells children and tortures them to create the perfect assassins. Now, every house has different techniques, maybe it was just House Arainai that does that weird shit, but it's just so different from what we know with no real explanation. I like to think that Zevran taking out Crow heads caused this change because it makes me smile.
Misc
Character Creator
I already made a post about this the day after I made Kane but to reiterate (and add things I didn't talk about):
The part that improved on the DAI creator really IMPROVED on the DAI creator
I loved the body shape options - let my ass be bigger tho
A lot of people hyped up the black hair options but I was honestly disappointed in them
I miss the eye and mouth shapes!
Wanted more options for regular, none decorative scaring
Ranges for sliders were very meh
That head thing SUCKED
Combat
Mo Post Seers already know I loved the combat. I do wish I could still have direct control over party members, mostly because I like to try different things in combat. The aggression needs to be fixed. Not fair that my poor mage's cheeks got clapped every 2 seconds. That fucking big ass ogre was ON their ass and they weren't even doing damage because I only had time to roll! Attack someone else!
Worldstate
I don't care that everyone has already talked about the worldstate thing. Here's how I think worldstate importing could have benefited the game:
A living HoF - they could have come from their retirement to fight the Superblight. Inquisitor could have received news about it and relayed it to Rook.
A dead warden - their urn/monument/whatever could have been seen briefly in Weisshaupt (but I did appreciate the joining cup).
Warden Carver or Bethany - Don't think I even need to explain with the Superblight everywhere.
Kieran - I just think a cameo of him now that's he's grown could have been interesting. They don't even need to bring up my Warden I just want to see my little boy again....
Inquisitor's friendship or rivalry with Solas - this could have added some nuance to how Solas talks about the Inquisitor. Imagine a friend who wants to stop him no matter what or a rival that wants to save him? Let me cook!
This is already long af so let's stop here <3 Imagine if it didn't go through development hell. Please give me a DLC.

Solas: I was TRYING to simply MOVE Elgar'nan and Ghilain'nain to a better prison so that I might spare the world their evil before the Veil inevitably collapses and then this PUNK INTERRUPTED ME because the IDIOT thought I was DESTROYING THE WORLD!
Lavellan: Wow, Solas, that sucks. You know, it really is unfortunate that you never had, say, an extremely powerful girlfriend who runs the most powerful paramilitary organization in the world willing to listen to you and support you. If, say, you had someone who knew the truth about who you were and still loved you and wanted nothing more than to help you fix things without killing tons of people, that would have been really useful, huh? Like, imagine, for a minute, that there was someone actually willing to listen to all of your explanations, LIKED doing that in fact, who also just so happened to have countless resources at hand to help you better handle the Evanuris and their prisons and would have also kept Varric and Harding from sabotaging you with a word.
Solas: ....
Lavellan: Wow, it sure does SUCK for you that you never had any means to get necessary help for all of your plans. Your always 100% foolproof plans that have never gone catastrophically wrong before. Gosh, if only SOMEONE might have been willing to help!
Solas: Vhenan, I--
Lavellan: ---I mean, how could you have known that the people of this world are far more resourceful and useful and driven than you give them credit for? Your plans blowing up in your face never went wrong because you underestimated people before, right?
Solas: Please, I---
Lavellan: Gee, if only there was a world in which SOMEONE could have given you an army of genius mages to guard and help your ritual. And help you find a way to take down the Veil without an apocalypse. Shit, would that not have been SO HELPFUL??? Gee, you could have gotten rid of Ghilain'nain and Elgar'nan and the others in minutes then went home to a hot meal and pussy. Too bad that was never on the table for you. Maybe in another world...

@isalarevas - ersha
Even from his prison, Solas felt the crushing weight of Ghilan'nain's presence loom over Weisshaupt. The Fade rippled with Fear, Despair, and Rage. The gentler spirits fled, their warning cries heard even from here.
He'd all but forgotten how terrible one of the evanuris' full might could feel. Ghilan'nain's wrath made the situation that much more desperate, especially given whose hands the fate of the world now rested. They could not succeed, this disparate band of incompetents he'd been saddled with. He would curse Varric for his choice of hero were he there, if the chains of regret he'd built into the walls of this place not suffocated him.
There was so little he could do but watch. He tried to pull on any trace of magic he could get a handle on. And of course, it all came back to the blight. Solas pulled on the magic of the blight, feeling it as though it twisted itself around his hand. There was enough here to get a sense, at least, of Rook's progress, and the state of the Warden fortress at large.
Desperate, which was unsurprising. But something else undercut the relentless beating of the blight. He pulled further, chasing the feeling into the bowels of the fortress, far from the fighting but in no less danger due to proximity. Another beating heart, softer and achingly familiar.
No. Not here. Not now.
Rook.
It was forceful, and he leaned so hard on the Veil that it felt like battering against a wall. Ghilain'nain's presence had weakened it, but only just. He forced his voice through until the pounding of his own head reflected in Ersha's.
