I will defend Bayker with my life, and also an epipen.
Is it possible that the baker could die? Can he genuinely die?
I'm laughing. The hell is this ask

also the way the team and Yugo in particular play around with gender presentation in GGG is so damn fun
I haven't checked out Viscera Objectica or Be Kind My Neighbor yet but I did see promos when Yugo Limbo was working on them and such and like...
a lot of presentations of transmasc ppl tend to involve or imply top surgery or otherwise flatten things down, and I get it, that's a presentation that resonates with a lot of people, but it's one of the more common forms at this point I think, and we see some playing around with presentation in GGG that's fascinating to me
now we have multiple characters across these series and especially in GGG who use he/him pronouns and unabashedly have plunging necklines and skirts and just like. They're still using he/him or otherwise masc-presenting. Thespius has a billboard right in front of his yurt with his shirt half-open and the concept art shows him in an ankle skirt. Sheela and Patchie are both referred to as guys by themselves or others.
It's fun to see different ways to do gender stuff, and GGG plays around a lot, especially if you're keeping an eye out. Razzma uses he/she and is created and based on Yugo's partner, Huzzle not only uses 'it' but Huzzle using 'it' is a plot point, Bayker uses they/them and refers to themself as a third category when using the term "ladies and gentlemen". Smile For Me had nonbinary characters and characters who could easily be read as trans, but Great God Grove ramps it up to the point that there's probably not a single cishet character in the entire grove, and the cast is more interesting for it!
I'd also like to mention, particularly in Hobbyhoo, Styella and Byoolah have transfem energy - it seems like Styella has a completely flat chest, highlighted with her costume change, and Byoolah talks about watching Thespius and Click Clack's movies inspiring her to "be Byoolah" and she has a mustache (I'm pretty sure Byoolah uses she/her but I'm not certain)
Anyways, gender presentation in art has been and will always be a deeply personal thing, and sometimes characters Perfectly Passing is the more satisfying/compassionate way or the one that feels best to the artist, and that's totally fine, but I really enjoy how GGG's take on gender is 'do what makes you happy and ignore the haters'. Because the game is so colorful and full of fascinating characters and riveting story, it feels more alive for people just being themselves. And Yugo Limbo mentioned figuring out some gender stuff while working on it (specifically working on Lulu Extrano) and you can kind of see that

Right?! Like Thespius and Click Clack are just treated like celebrities, Bauhauzzo and Huzzle Mug are the weird immortal city council, Inspekta is… a cult leader at this point. Like the Bizzyboys are a cult now. Maybe they weren’t always a cult but they’ll literally take your name away to manipulate you.
And Miss Mitternacht is maybe the creator god but even then like… when you go to help her and end up only making her cry more nobody’s like “oh you’ve doomed us all our god is displeased” it’s a mix of “oh this is inconvenient” from some characters and “How could you make such a lovely lady cry?!” from others (even though some of Miss M’s dialogue is like… yeah she once cried so much she caused a Noah’s Arc situation. Very capable of causing big disaster if she’s upset enough.)
Cobigail’s the only one treated as something so other. They have an altar for her when they could literally just walk into the schoolhouse and visit her personally! Everyone’s scared of her, even Bloom’s son!
Tumblr media
And she’s the only God who regularly talks positively about her human life! Inspekta only brings his up in a negative light. You can call him a “tiny weak little bug” and he responds like this
Tumblr media
And Bauhauzzo brings up his human life only in the context of one of his history lessons: he used to work as a librarian and archivist at The Spire, but mortals aren’t allowed there anymore and it’s fallen into disrepair and he’s a little sad about it but has reached acceptance. It’s sweet but I unfortunately don’t have any screenshots of it atm.
The point is that Cobigail is the only God who still considers her human life a major, positive part of her identity— even despite her memory issues regarding it— yet she’s treated as the least human by the mortals. She values her community so much! And they don’t treat her like a real part of it anymore!

On the bright side, though… some of the people in Mildread have different reactions to Cobigail’s “BOO!” after you remind them what The Harvest is really about. It’s sweet.

Mostly sweet, at least

Saul you freak. (Affectionate, mostly)
Y’know a lot of the gods in Great God Grove are treated more like celebrities than gods. Their power over the thing they’re god of seems to be mostly social influence. Exceptions to this are Miss M, may or may not be the actual creator god of this world, and… Cobigail. For some reason.
The people of Mildread (Bloom notwithstanding) treat Cobigail like an inhuman deity, more like a force of nature than a person. And yeah, she is a force of nature now, technically, but she also values her town, her community so much. She seems to hold her human life in higher regard than any of the other gods do. I wonder if it hurts to be seen as something so other now. To have everyone convinced you’re this monstrous thing. I wonder if she misses being human.
Either way, Cobigail seems to have some actual influence over how well the crops do, which is more than I can say for, like… Thespius. Or Inspekta. Or even Bauhauzzo. He doesn’t seem to have any control over whether people remember things or not, it’s just that his own memory is good and he can… tell people what he remembers.
And then there’s Cobigail. As long as she’s not being starved, she has power over how the crops do. But??? She might’ve already had that as a human??

…She’d get along with Summer from Spiritfarer I think.
That flower in the drawing is glowing. Cobigail even calls her song an “incantation”??

Can you tell us anything about Bayker?????
Oh! Altho Budd was the first NPC design I made for GGG, Bayker was the second and the one I gave a personality/story first. Their last name is "Bhagley", a phonetic spelling of my Polish grandma's last name "Bagłaj". Should be obvious but Bayker is they/them. Saul, Bayker, and Goody used to make awful confectionary concoctions together for fun before... You know. So maybe they can continue that with a bit of a more polished flair post-game. Not sure if people noticed, but they usually have their hair in pigtails (you can see this when they turn around). Anything else is just kinda stated in game :)
I was also actually drawing Bayker last night :) I like em.
Bayker is voiced by the awesome painter/comic artist @madygcomics ❤️ (who is also Kondle and Poppy)
