23/01/23 - choosing a colour for the box
I looked at the G.F.Smith Colour Plan book, and I really liked these samples of colour and paper type. I was excited about the textured ones, however my tutors warned that I would be making it too complicated, which is true considering I wanted an art deco, minimalist packaging. I found some lovely deep blues and purples, but I needed to take this a step further and look at how these colours are found in nature, specifically at dawn/dusk as these are the times where the natural light is changing.

My samples from G.F Smith, I decided to get two samples per colour, so that’s five different colours that Iordered. I ordered: turquoise, candy pink, sorbet yellow, tabriz blue, and new blue. It was hard to pick the colours so early on but I new that I definetly wanted to incorporate the colour blue hence why I chose three different shades. And then the candy pink and sorbet yellow I thought fitted the brand image and target audience (being younger children). This order was just to kind of experiment with different colour pallets at this stage.

variable pages experiment 9/4/24
I experimented with pages folding and also small pages and big pages in order to see what it was like to 'explore' with the page , i was intregued by the experiments and im going to keep testing them to see how they turn out.
i used some of the gfsmith paper samples to print on double sided to see if you can see inside. which was successful and would be more successful on thicker paper since it would be easier, i found paper too thick though doesnt work either since it doesnt move

I have decided to design a look book to explain how Stella McCartney sustainably source their wool. This would be placed in stores and explain to the customer how the process works and how they can use the system in the store to identify which items of clothing are part of this range.
As i have started using the "E" as the mark for this branding identity, the idea would be that on the labels and signs around the shop, the 'E' would feature to show that that item of clothing is part of the sustainability range.
I will be using this article be stella mccartney and how they source and use their wool sustainably to inform the content of the look book. and will be accompanied by a series of collage designs to promote the items of clothing and the journey the wool has taken to be in the store.
I want this look book to feel luxurious and elegant, and i will do this through using a neutral colour scheme with pops of an accent colour, the paper will be largely gloss, but to keep it on brand with the sustainability focus, i have ordered recycled paper from GFSmith, which will both make the book more environmentally friendly as well as ass new colours and textures into the book to make it interesting and engage the reader by adding new textures.

Pick, Pack, Sell - Paper + Tests
Before I had edited the back side of my packaging I had created this mockup of the packaging to test out three things: How thick I need the paper to be? how well does my packaging look? and how good is the net? I started off ordering the thickest recycled sample paper I could from GFsmith because I wanted my packaging to be firm and hold well because the product is hard and dense so having flimsy packaging wasn't an option to me. This was a good choice because of how well it held once I had made it but it overall affected the net I used in a negative way. I chose to use a is male net that allowed a cylindrical style of packaging with a lid but having such thick card meant a lot of hard work when creating it because it was not easy to fold without ripping and bending to hold position. The design worked well as well but was made to look bad because I used glue to stick it down, bad paper type and the back facts didn't come out looking so good on a physical prototype. Overall everything was perfect on their own and seemed like the right option for their job but when I bring the three things together the outcome just was not good enough for my standards and I felt it came out horrible.

Day 18 - colour 🧡 as you know orange is our bold brand colour. You also probably know that there’s are A LOT of card brands out there (so thanks for sticking with me 🤗) what you may not know or perhaps haven’t ever noticed is there’s not a lot of colour coordinated envelopes out there. I strive to make hue complete me stand out from the crowd and one of the major ways I do this is by offering colour coordinating envelopes to our colourful card designs. I personally have never really loved Kraft envelopes so in 2020 I said goodbye to Kraft for good and shifted my already 11 other colours to incorporate the most lovely bright envelopes! There’s a few more new ones on the way being made as I type by our local supplier! We will be adding turquoise and a really pretty jewely green that I can’t wait to show you once they’re ready! Brexit threw me a curveball when my envelope supplier despite having an .ie webpage said they’re no longer shipping to Ireland so I shifted and found even nicer quality envelopes from local businesses so it’s a win win - you get nice pretty envelopes and we get to support other small Irish businesses! Colour is super important to me, whether it’s the designs @cor.nu.co.pi.a and I are working on, the font colour, the envelope colour, our bright mailing envelopes and boxes you’re going to see something cheerful bright and colourful. I wanted to make sure when you think COLOURFUL you think of us 🧡🧡 so I do hope that’s the feeling you get! Also a special thanks to @badgerandblue for listening to me talk for hours on end about changing my envelope colours, thanks for being you girl and accepting my madness 😂 😍😍🤗. Hope you enjoyed hearing a bit more about our colour journey! Now.... tell me your favourite envelope colour in the comments I’m dying to know!! 💫💫 • • • #caringtoshareyourbusiness #colourfulenvelopes #rainbow #colour #marchmeetthemaker #meetthemaker #behindthebrand #brexit #irish #gfsmithpapers #gfsmith #colorplan #colorfulpaper #envelopes #ihavethisthingwithenvelopes #stationerylove (at Portobello, Dublin) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMkwtAinz-d/?igshid=4z4hskgago0c

Made this for the Czech edition of Elle Decoration. They organise a 'design challenge' where you have to create a still from objects found around the house. What a great way to procrastinate! Crowning my composition is 1/72 dH Hornet I just built 👑
