Ohohoho, absolutely can do my dear friend.
I'm about to turn the dad post into a DND post which is incredibly on brand for me, so bear with me as i stream of conscious DND thoughts.
Ok so I've been really getting into the non-common DnD races cause I think it's just so cool to see all these really creative creatures with all sorts of buffs and such, and i also just love playing something very non-human in a fantasy game. Some of them like goblins also have some interesting implications as they're typically considered more monstrous/evil (that one scene on leviathan in fantasy high sophomore year sticks out to me), and I just really love that you can be like a barbarian turtle creature or a paladin satyr and i think even a funky little goop creature is coming out in spell jammer (everything I've heard about spell jammer I've heard second hand from my DND crew but it sounds SOO cool I'm so hyped). Really veering off track with this paragraph but I've also had a few DMs create homebrew races for our campaigns and it is SO awesome, one of them had these really cool lava rock monsters with some heat-emitting and flight abilities that were fun to exploit, and the backup for my current campaign is a homebrew axolotl-based race which has SUCH fun in-universe lore and little stats (the slippery skin gives disadvantage on grappling and they can also cast create or destroy water a few times a day which is SO so funky. Water creatures) and it's just so fun and creative (and also the axol was the perfect race for the character concept i had in mind - i was trying to choose from the existing reptilian/amphibious races and they just were not working out but when he told me about axols. chef's kiss).
But anyways off of my tangent that is why I was looking at some funky races (shout-out to the wikidot for listing out all my fun little options) and chose leonin for my current character. Since we've got some fun universe-hopping stuff going on with this campaign setting i took advantage of that + the leonin and decided my guy was once a lion in a zoo who got magically transported to our DND world and it has created SUCH fun and cool and not at all angsty (lying) implications for him. Poor guy torn away from all his lion cubs. Given new abilities for magic and speech and more advanced cognition (despite every time I've said that he knows what Minecraft is (i make things that are funny canon and the dm hadn't stopped me yet) i still headcanon that he just had the properties + cognition of a real actual lion before being magically transformed into a leonin). Put through horrifying body modifications and given a completely alien form (for a cis character I've sure given him some trans-flavored angst huh. Guess i can't help projecting). Anyways, it's so fun. There's just so many places to go, without a lot of those expectations for humans and elves and all the other much more pop-culture choices. So much spice.
Anyways that's my little brain vomit about DND hope it was enjoyable lol.
Anytime anyone hears me say meow and calls me a cat boy I'd like them to consider how often my dad will randomly goes meow under his breath. I'm not a cat boy it's just a linguistic pattern i picked up from my completely normal (lying) father
