I gotta say, I really like the Morrowind builds (like Camel is using) where the framerate and textures and effects are all turbo-HD, but they're still hung on low-poly models. And those 4k textures are true to the original aesthetic, and still retain the simple but now iconic character faces.
This is really the "best of both worlds" scenario - it's still the same great game, just made smoother and more beautiful.
"YEAH BUT WHAT ABOUT GAMEPLAY?"
Real men use console cheats and trainers for great justice. You want to grind cliffracers for 20 hours, it's your life to waste. I don't play video games to NOT be an OP badass.
Also I still have no idea how alchemy works in this game and my religion says I don't have to care.

I adore your take on DS2 and wanted to know what ur thoughts were on Elden Ring and/or DS 3!
(also I have been loving ur comics!!!)
First off: Thank you! Glad you like my comics! <3
I mentioned it briefly in the DS2 post, and it's been said by others, but Dark Souls 3 is about ending Dark Souls. And it does that very well. The "time and space is falling apart and that's why the geography is like that" that people sometimes say about DS2 is literally, textually true in 3. The Dreg Heap is a pile of other, older Dark Souls areas collapsing in on each other. This world has been going on and on, repeating and prolonging the Age of Fire that should have ended long ago, and it's just breaking down. You can't keep the same thing going forever, that's true in the universe of the story, and of a franchise of dark fantasy action RPGs.
It's kind of funny and also impressive that Miyazaki and the team hit that point, saying if they keep doing this it's going to fall apart, on game three of the franchise. There's so many series out there that will pump out game after game of the same stuff, to the point they stop numbering them and give them subtitles to hide the fact that they're on game 23 of this thing, and FromSoft said "three's our limit for this one" and gave us the greatest hits final bow before moving on to new different takes on their subgenre of games.
Enter Elden Ring! The game that got me into FromSoft games. Every time people talked about Dark Souls it was always about how hard they were, and the whole "git gud" mentality, which made them seem like they would 100% be not my kind of thing. But I am an absolute sucker for a fantasy open world, so I dipped my toes into Elden Ring, and really enjoyed it! Being able to just go exploring and do something else whenever I got stuck was a huge plus, as are spirit ash summons. The game is hard, for sure, but there's also a lot of ways to ease that difficulty (not eliminate it, but ease it (also there's no excuse to not have a pause button, that's stupid, don't @ me))
As far as lore and storytelling, Elden Ring has a lot of cool stuff (that's my wife Ranni, my cool witch wife Ranni) but I don't know that I have so definite a "take" on its story. It goes back to the Dark Souls 1 and 3 well of "some important shit happened, go kill this list of bosses about it" but I appreciate that you have a lot more choice in regards to your ending. It's not "link the fire or don't" it's "you're creating a new age, what do you want that age to be like?" with a few compelling choices and some evil bastard ones for fun.
Assorted side thoughts:
FP is better than spell uses. More convenient, more flexible, lets you focus on Mind to allow yourself to cast more spells.
All of my first playthroughs were sword and board, both because of caution going in and because I like the "knight with a sword and shield" aesthetic.
Related to the last point, Guard Counters are a great addition in ER, and the "Sekiro style block" crystal tear for the Physick in the DLC should have been a talisman or something permanent, to just make that a play style people can use.
The Alva Armor rules, 10/10 best fit in Dark Souls
I really like Shadow of the Erdtree, but it is the absolute limit on the current version of Souls-game mechanics. Not everyone is Let Me Solo Her, and between both the extremely punishing difficulty and the becoming more repetitive nature of a lot of the boss design, they need to change up the combat to keep things going. Sekiro seems to be a step in that direction from what I hear?
No boss fight in any video game has ever made me feel as cool as Slave Knight Gael in the DS3 DLC. It just worked for me on pretty much every level. The story, the music, the visuals, the difficulty. I can beat him, and it's hard but not a kind of hard that makes me angry at the game. Dodging in and out of his attacks, getting my own hits in, it felt like a kick ass dance of fantasy combat. It's peak.

P-chan should be cute, pretty, handsome. Appearance-wise, they are perfect. Their gender doesn't matter but I want someone with a body like mine. I don't like nuisances so they have to be calm and collected. They have to be rational so they can comfort me and stop me from making impulsive decisions.
I want them to be independent but not too independent. They'll need me to command them like a pet. Maybe like a bunny? They could be that innocent-looking type but is secretly horny for me hehe. I'll have to work out the details later. But it's fine even if they are unsure about their personality. People like that tend to rely on the self-assured more. Maybe I could even dress up in the clothes I can't wear.
They won't be able to live without me.
“Ohh…it’s soh gud,” Scara moans, her tongue trailing up the melting popsicle before sucking on it. “Mmm…I might get addicted...”
The stream chat floods with comments; majority of it being provocative remarks. Just the reaction she intended. Although Scara hates to be sexualised by her fans, she knows that suggestive content rakes up the viewer count the fastest.
Almost halfway to a month, yet she hasn’t even reached half a million yet. She doesn’t have much time so even if that means that she has to whore herself like this…
“Mmm it’s sticking all over my fingers…” Scara licks the vanilla cream off her fingers, exaggerating her noises as she continues sucking on the popsicle. “It’s a good thing I took off my gloves. Or else it would have been allll over me.”
cauldron-of-anon: you know what else is creamy and drips all over
eunchaeluvr: I LOVE ICE CREAM
bubiblossom: god Im so happy I was born
cinshaberu: big…
leefrfr: that looks good
yourmomsucksme: YESYESYESYESYES
vermillionbun: THANK YOU SCARA
Scara giggles as she licks a strip up the popsicle. Hm, but it’s about time she ended the stream. All this sugary sweet stuff is cloying…ugh. She finishes the popsicle sensually and cleans her hands with a wet wipe.
“Thank you for the meal, it was delicious. I have to meet up with a friend so I’ll respond to the superchats another time.” Scara blows a kiss, mouse hovering over the ‘end stream’ button. “So long suckers!”
You’ve reached another milestone today. It’s funny how the other day, both you and Kunihiko were worried about his stagnancy. Today, he has surpassed 50k subscribers. Since this genre of streams garners the most viewers, maybe it’s okay to ask him to do more sexy streams. Probably not too much though. You don’t want Scara to come out as just another female streamer selling her body for clout. Conspiracy theories seem to do well…that goes for her ‘Scara Tries Things’ series. You’ll have to make her work harder these upcoming days, especially since she’s been slacking off lately. You’ve been trying not to push Kuni too hard but—
You blink as your phone is snatched away from you. “You’re still doing work?”
“Yes, that’s my job as your producer.” You stare at Kuni.
Your boyfriend scowls, grabbing your forearm. “Right now I need you to do your job as my partner.”
You don’t make any effort to resist as Kuni drags you like a ragdoll, grunting when he tosses you onto the bed. You sit there, waiting for Kuni to finish changing and give you your orders for the night. In the meantime, you occupy yourself by looking around.
Kuni didn’t have any requests for a themed room so you chose a classy one. The room was laden with rich reds and blacks, a jacuzzi and a drawer stocked with condoms, lube, all the essentials. In truth, it looked like any expensive hotel room, except that the fee for this one was much cheaper that any 5 star hotel. The good thing about love hotels is that they are soundproof — meaning Kuni is going to make you fuck him all night so he can savour the experience of moaning as loud as he wants without alerting the neighbours. Speaking of which, he wanted you to wear something, didn’t he? It should be the one on the table…
Unveiling the contents of the paper bag reveals an angel-themed lingerie set. The bodysuit is made out of fine white satin, decorated with ribbons at the shoulder straps, tulle around the hips, and etched with cloud patterns. Matching the set of white ribbon garters are sheer cloud-covered unattached sleeves that look like it extends past your elbows, looping around the middle finger to partially cover the top of your hands and leaving the rest bare. Without batting an eye, you shed your clothes off and dress yourself in the gifted outfit.
“Are you done?” Kuni calls from the bathroom after a few minutes.
“Yes.”
You sit on the bed, watching as your boyfriend exit the bathroom. A devilish grin rests on his carmine-lined lips as he sashays in black stilettos. He’s dressed head to toe in black leather — from the bodysuit, to the arm sleeves and stockings — but the bodysuit specifically emits a sort of polychromatic glow, shifting to a shimmering purple under the fluorescent light. The whole outfit hugs his body tight, squeezing his body in certain areas that pulls attention to the exposed skin spilling out his thighs and his chest… Your gaze darts back to his eyes, heart thumping upon realising that he is right in front of you.
Kuni chuckles. “What? You embarrassed?” He takes your hand, placing it on his chest. “Don’t be. I wore this just for you, you know?” Entranced, your eyes follow the movements of his other hand, watching as he unzips the zip on his waist, pushing down the waistband to display the pink, heart-shaped tattoo on his pelvis; resembling those typical womb tattoos you see in hentai. “You’re my sweet, obedient angel. And you’re going to reward this naughty succubus for working so hard for the both of us.” Kuni shoves you down on the bed, letting you sit in your state of shock as he purrs into your ear. "Get your toys. They are on the bedside table."
Sure enough, there's your bullet vibrator and buttplug; the ones Kuni asked you to bring today. You turn the motor to its maximum speed, goosebumps all over your skin as it makes contact with your sex. Next goes the plug, which you make sure to lubricate before inserting it into your puckered hole. When you lift your head, Kuni’s stinging violet gaze is locked upon you, a smirk on his carmine lips as he plays with his covered clit. You immediately turn your attention down, removing his underwear with hurried fingers and latching onto the swollen bub.
Soft thighs wrap around your head as your tongue switches its focus on his leaky cunt. Juices drip all over your tongue as you dive into him, eating him like a gourmet buffet. The whir of the vibrator reverberates off the insulated walls, rousing the fire in your groin that stupefies you into shaking your ass, savouring the sensation of your hole squeezing around the plug. Your eyes flit back up to your lover, his lust-filled eyes fixed onto you. His cunt oozes with ambrosial nectar, and you lap it up like a starved creature, goaded by his saccharine moans. A squeal reveals the arrival of his high, manicured nails digging into the sheets before vitality deserts him, leaving him laying limp on the bed.
The strained, rapid breaths becomes the only source of sound in the room once the motor is turned off. What fills the space of silence is rustling, followed by a click and then followed by a wet noise of viscous liquid. Kuni spreads his legs as your body hovers over him, a tired look on his face. He senses your hesitation.
“Don’t give that look,” he sneers. “I already gave you permission to ruin me. Unless…” he juts his bottom lip out, eyebrows lowered in a display of mockery. “you’re backing away now because you realised you can’t do it. No matter how cool, calm and controlled you think you are, I’m the one who holds dominion over you. Without my orders, you’re hopeless. You don’t know what to do because I’m the one who holds the power. Without me, you’re— ah!!”
His back arches into a crescent as the strap spears him without warning. Without giving him time to adjust, you’re grinding your hips against his, slamming the cock in and out while he cries in pleasure.
“Yes, yes, yes! Use me! Break me! Fix me! Oh god, please, please, please—!”
The force of your thrusts jostles Kuni against the bed, incandescent light shifting the polychromatic purples of his collar that just beckon you to wrap your hand around the thin neck. The added pressure around his neck makes him mewl in delight, hands guiding your free hand up his hips, past his navel piercing, and landing on his chest.
“Touch my boobs…” he rasps.
“I don’t recall giving you permission to order me around,” you say with a bite in your voice, tugging on one of his nipple piercings to make him squeak. “Do I have to punish you for your insolence?” Nonetheless, you turn your attention to his chest, peppering it with kisses and hickeys, suckling on his nipples, all to make the little brat writhe under you.
“(Name)...” he whines. “Punish me, ruin me, I don’t care! I don’t care about anything as long as you need me— aah…think of me and no one else! Want only me, love only me, love me, love me, love— haaah~!! I’m cumming, I’m—!”
His orgasm is signified by a shower of translucent strings streaming out of his soaked cunt, essence staining the floor and sheets in splatters. Kuni wheezes for air once you release the hold on his neck, arms wrapping around you as he basks in the momentary peace.
“Are you okay? Was I too rough?”
“I…I can do it again…” he says in between breaths, pushing himself up with his elbows. “Come on, I’m your…I’m your succubus, aren’t I? You…you have to punish me…”
You shrink back. “Kuni, I really think you need a break—”
A sudden weight thrown onto you interrupts your monologue. You blink, seeing your smirking boyfriend has switched positions with you; with you now underneath him while he’s on top of you.
“Oh I’m much stronger than you think. This body is curated for you…for all of your desires and wants. So, do your worse,” He cusps your cheek, lips covering over yours. “and dig in.”
Kuni kisses you with fervour, determined to infect you with his lust. An unwelcome sense of unease churns instead.
The sharp pain makes Kuni's body tingle with adrenaline, foggy eyes watching scarlet sanguine spill out the wound. His chest rises and falls as he pants, shaking fingers bringing the bloodied blade to slash an untouched portion on his wrist. He lets the high consume him, a penumbra that suppresses the emotional turmoil threatening to boil over the messed up pot that is him. Yet that high is all-consuming, and it begs for more. Cloudy indigos flit up to the mirror, a blurry figure reflecting back his ugly existence and that ugly chest that proves of his inferiority as a man.
"Cut your hair? But you’re the most beautiful with long hair."
"Where did you get those shorts? A pretty girl like you should wear dresses."
"Why does she dress like that?”
"Huh? But…you’re a girl."
Shut up, shut up.
”Kuniko, do you really think that anyone in this world will accept you as a boy?”
Shut up, shut up, shut up shut up shut up—
"Do you want to bleed out?"
Kuni ignores the way his raised hand trembles, grumbling as he glares at the person standing by the door. "Wasn't intending to. But if I die from blood loss, it wouldn’t be a bad thing either."
"I would be upset." You take a step forward, stopping when he inches the razor closer to his chest. "You know, if you wanted to get rid of them, we could always visit a professional. Surgery would be safer–"
“Do you think I give a shit about my safety?!” Kuni screams, beads of tears pouring like a waterfall. “I want to die! I don’t want to exist anymore, why don’t you get it?!”
“What makes you think that I don’t?”
“You…you…” Kuni swallows, his dry mouth making speech a burden.
“Maybe I don’t want to live either," You say. "but I still want you to survive.”
Kuni laughs dryly. “How selfish of you.”
“How ironic of you of all people to say that."
He doesn’t respond to that.
“I need you just as much as you need me. We can’t survive without each other.”
“I know.”
“I’m here because you want me to stop you. You want me to make you feel better.”
“...Yes.”
“How do you want me to do that?"
“...Hold me."
A trace of warmth swathes him; barely there but still enough. Kuni leans against the cold wall, quiet sobs echoing through the tiny room, caged in this claustrophobic space. The air is cold and suffocating, but he knows it will be okay because you’re here. It will be okay, because (Name) is here. (Name) is always with me. (Name) can never leave me. He closes his eyes, letting your gentle scent waft into his nose. He takes apart the scent: an amalgamation of lavender, sandalwood and sage, like the aromatherapy candles he lights. If he focuses, he can feel your warm, calming breaths brushing against his ear, reminding him that you’re there. You’ll always be there for him, and nothing will change that. It takes a while but slowly, his breaths even out, settling into a steady cadence.
You let go of him. His eyes are fixed on the floor.
“Are you okay?” You ask, caressing his dishevelled locks.
His gaze doesn’t leave the floor. “I can handle more than this.”
The sound of muffled shouting interrupts the quiet conversation. Kuni winces, looking at the direction of the disturbance. He recognises the voices but tunes out the repetitive string of words, palms cupping his ears while his back slides down the wall. The voices get louder and louder, accompanied by clashes of porcelain and the collide of wood against other household objects. He doesn’t register that he’s shaking until the familiar warmth surrounds him again.
“Let’s watch KAngel.”

in defense of revelation
most of y'all know me as a pre-tumblr tellius fan who recently got suckered into fates/(especially revelation) in the past year and how often i've repeatedly stated how very fucking glad i was not around for peak fates fan/hatedom. even living afar from the field in other fandoms for that brief 2015-2021 time period, fates discourse was... special, to say the least.
me being me, i do want to take a step back and consider in good faith... why?
why the outsized hatedom for rev especially?
every FE game has its warts with its strengths. and i feel like i'm in a unique position of seeing from a more macro/neutral standpoint having abruptly fallen in love with fates/rev when it's left in the dust for shinier games, and whose viewpoint was never really colored either which way while also living the historical context of the series. (shoot at one point i was a by-default fates hater/"pre-DS fe" snob; I freely admit to eating my own words).
the odd bit of it all is that revelation is by far my favorite of the routes. yes, gunter's outsized impact on the plot is a large part of it, but I actually think I would still like it over conquest/(certinally over birthright and a good 90% of FE games) even if another character had taken that role, as long as it was handled in a similarly complex way (anankos' cosmic horror shtick was fuckin' rad).
let's start with the common criticisms (a few picked from this halfway reasonable reddit thread that attempts something similar) and others gleaned elsewhere from the interwebs over the year.
the unit balancing
IMO this is the fairest criticism of the list; i can see why a bunch of underleveled units handed out slowly before the cast rolls into valla would be a legitimate annoyance to old hats and newcomers alike.
that said: something about gameplay with Fates that i think was brilliant is there's a massive intentional difference between royals and every other character. royals get special weapons, they're a class unto themselves literally and also in being able to solo entire swaths of levels. (birthright being a literal name of one of the routes, for pete's sake.) i've attempted both a rev run with royals and a rev run without royals (using gunter too lol) back to back and honestly the sheer difficulty spike is genuinely fascinating from a story perspective.
you feel how utterly powerless non-royals feel.
(also given people mostly emotionally got attached to the royals.... in the other two routes they were probably willing to wait a little longer for their blorbo to appear and assuaged by many cutscenes of them.)
also tangent, but gameplay wise: i also kind of want to push back at the redditor in the thread above who mentioned rev as a sandbox experience of Fates; I can see why they would say that as it's perceived as the neutral route, when personally it's better framed as the valla-specific route with a very tight cast focus (ie the characters that actually impact the plot); having almost the whole cast being playable was just a type of newgame+ bonus. like i wouldn't expect a nohrian character to get much limelight in birthright in favor of the hoshidans, so too would I not expect a non valla-related character to get as much focus and decent treatment in rev.
very petty add on: if i can make mister zero stats grandpa OHKO ryoma in rev on my second run, git gud shrub
the story
so here's the thing.
i'm objectively biased by being head over heels for gunter as a character and his outsized impact on lategame rev - but i don't think i'm wrong with saying that people were looking for the wrong thematic beats regarding revelation's story with how it was framed beyond itself.
if you focus on the adults - mikoto, arete, gunter, garon, and the unaffiliated characters that didn't get a chance to shine in the other two nation-specific routes (azura, lilith, anankos, corrin's backstory in the northern fortress) - revelation will blow your socks off with how nuanced and interwoven between the characters mentioned above the story is.
you just need to give it a fair chance.
gimmick maps
this is honestly where i laugh a little and simply gesture to three houses' objectively terrible same-y maps. TH had other strengths; its maps are not one of them. i'd rather take a memorable gimmick in a heartbeat than 4/5ths of a game i straight up do not remember the levels (a criticism that could also go for FE11/12/most of the series pre FE7).
the snow shoveling map in particular draws the most ire (fair lol), but let's take that map out, and.... honestly none of the others feel egregarious? FE's done 'only three characters deployed" before (the cave chapter which is pretty short and not too unbalanced). the moving platforms have been done in FE7. the traps in anankos' lair were honestly pretty fun for instilling more of the horror/claustrophobic vibe and didn't have total buzzkills like powerful ranged magic bosses to ruin your day (FE6/7/16 lookin' at you).
of fates' routes, conquest's maps age a little bit better by being generally emotionally married to the story beats more, but personally i find they're a little overtuned at times. honestly the worst i can say is that conquest's maps overshine the other two routes when the other two routes had pretty decent-to-good map design that age well by their own right.
the babyrealms
sure, and.............? honestly i feel like every FE game has its completely anime whack-ass mechanic from space.
the best part is the children mechanic in fates is completely optional and segregated from the story - if you hate it that much it doesn't even have to exist. god knows i wish the My Unit/time travel of Awakening onwards didn't exist, or the kids of FE13 didn't exist, or the whole "secret space technology" of FE16 didn't exist, or the toothpaste hair of Engage, or the fucking gameplay of FE4/6, and frankly the laguz can be a bit tough to swallow as an idea if you didn't grow up with the anime tropes of cat girls or shapeshifters at the time (and the anvilicious anti-racism themes) -- all of which are way more plot relevant to their respective games.
'just fighting zombies for the latter half'
ironically i'm usually the first person to absolutely despise the 'fighting non-characters/nameless zombies' trope. so i do sympathize.
one: honestly that critique isn't that much different than the FE-bog-standard 'fight twenty maps packed with samey soldiers of the Bad Evil Country' (FE9 with daein alas) - if anything, like FE8, zombies are a nice change of pace and rev even one-ups sacred stones by giving the possessed vallites an extra bit of fridge horror if you give one temporary shit about the vallites.
a better defense though, is much like how i think viewing Final Fantasy 7 as anything but a massive homage to sci-fi horror would be a miss to its story, visual, and emotional beats - i also think it'd be a miss to not recognize that revelation is the cosmic horror of fire emblem.
the slowly-revealed possession of someone very precious to corrin. the needless deaths of named cast members. anankos' entire freaking design. the last four-five chapters of fighting your own parents/parental figures who both plead with you to kill them while also trying to convince you to let them kill you, holy fuck. peak psychological horror here too, and i feel like fates is in a uniquely better position with its focus on incestual family dynamics to drive home the emotional impact to the player (if you've married some specific characters like azura and gunter) as well as pull from classic gothic horror - especially brilliant with the nohrian's constant linkage to vampires, another staple of gothic horror.
oh gunter, gunter gunter.
I can't get around this point since I have heard him specifically mentioned (lol) as a failing of revelation. oh zero stats granpda. what are we going to do with you.
(keep in mind i'm not going to be able to tackle all of these sub-points since this would literally be a 20k essay by itself which this blog kinda frankly covers in various degrees; this is a summary).
but let's start with the more objective bits.
ultimately, i ... think a lot of people were really skeeved the fuck out by gunter's possession plotline in the sense it was a huge bet that the series had never done. there were a handful of gunter fans from conquest who would normally be all over his expanded spotlight that fall into this bucket, in addition to the folks that just did not jive with his type of arc/character and who were never gonna like rev. (that's fine, y'all got two whole other games to play in).
giving its jeigan character actual teeth, actual cold-blooded motivations and hatreds and a betrayal that worked entirely at odds with the royal-simping game (and series) didn't help. he never apologized for it either.
giving its jeigan a spotlight role when youth is valorized, and old age demonized to a questionable degree didn't help. (ya notice the ages of all the heroes and villains? the really squicky visual character consistency of beauty equals goodness in anime / that FE is no better at?) his story almost lowkey requires a little maturity to get, higher than the average age of a fates player.
giving its jeigan a nuanced personality that could be caring and protective as much as deeply manipulative (even and especially to corrin) didn't help. locking behind half of their relationship to CQ supports and half his backstory/chats with the rest of the cast being unlocalized likewise didn't help.
giving its jeigan actual sexual menace didn't help. ( in an already sexually-charged game, there are a few very specific lategame possession scenes where that also bleeds over to his role, nevermind his CQ S-support. and crucially, when that slipping mask jarred directly against the father role that people project on him with corrin).
.... and all of those points is exactly why i think his arc is some of the most brilliant writing in the series.
Fates was especially good with taking tired tropes and twisting them just enough in a fucky/power-tilt-y way that it left the player off kilter while giving the games, ultimately, a bittersweet resolution.
some folks don't like that feeling; but i think it was an injection of real charisma and balls in a series that always draws from its specific time-period in history.
thank you for reading ~

IT'S OCTOPUS TIME! I can't believe I didn't make this earlier but here you go. Octolings in their full glory (here's my xeno Inklings too lol).
I'm writing (and illustrating) a massive scientific document on my designs for these sentient cephalopods, so I'll just copy-and-paste what I've got on that under the cut.
Octolings are characterised by a bulge of muscle under the jaw. Some affectionately call this the “chin chonk” :).
Octolings are a venomous, sentient species of cephalopod with a non-connected eye mask and two rows of outward-facing suckers. Their biology is extremely similar to Inklings, which many studies have attributed to a convergence in evolution. This species has adapted for an ambush-type predatory lifestyle and as a result have large, bulky bodies and powerful muscles. If an Octoling and an Inkling were to get into a fight, the Octoling would win even if outnumbered 5 to 1 (bit of a skill issue really, just git gud L).
This species is unique in the fact that it possesses a venom gland in the throat, which produces tetrodotoxin. This neurotoxin diffuses into the saliva, where it can be injected into a victim via a bite. Tetrodotoxin is extremely potent in its effects, as it paralyses the victim and prevents them from breathing, killing them in under thirty minutes. Nasty way to go.

i love lies of P. its the first game since i touched the dark souls series where i had to actually git gud. my usual playstyle that carried me through all 3 dark souls and elden ring couldnt cut it in lies of p and i had to learn how to adapt. its the first souls like game that actually got me to learn how to parry
I started really enjoying lies of P after the first bosses and legit fell in love with it at the end when all the story pieces came togheter. I usally sucks at parrying in soulsike games (watch me go full strength and BONK as hard as possible), but here it felt so satisfying. Love the fast and slow rhytm you get with some bosses and how you have to adapt your fighting style even between phases! I'm currently on NG++ aiming for a Platinum. And still havent spoiled myself the "bad ending" wich im going for now, togheter with a 0 humanity run, wich is killing my heart. Also I'm a personal sucker of re-imagined fairy tales and dear god they made an AMAZING job here, if you know stuff from the original story it's incredible how many stuff they managed to fit in, re-imagine and adapt everything for a souls-like world, even with little things! (Ej Giangio mentions he used to be a farmer, and well Giangio is actually a farmer in the original story!) (the more you know.) I'm also biased here cause I do have a special relation with the story of Pinocchio because of an illustrated version my granma gave to me when I was a kid, and we used to read it togheter so yeah... So yeah this game got me both on the gameplay side and storytelling side. It's a challenging game if you're not used to soulslike but hey for me its higly recommended.

So, Idia makes an explanation video. Does he make an explanation video for anything. In any AU that allows him to have some semblance of technology?
:0c gud question.
And I assume this is mainly chapter 7 spoilers(jp side, since en also got a new piece) so imma put a smol read more. :'3
From what I gathered around, Idia did make an explanation video. Does that mean he made the STIX introductory video? Or maybe that was his father, who later taught Idia how to do it too. (kinda like sum papa-son bonding :3)
You may correct me, if I'm wrong, but I believe Idia made his dream a safe space from the blots, until Silver & Co. Came up. And by the rule of the thumb, Dreams have different time-lines. Maybe for our group it took days in Lilia's dream, maybe for Idia it was a few minutes while trying to make the video, maybe it was a few hours, as suggested by the reality plane, where Ortho tried to deck Malleus. :v
So, by definition, we don't really know HOW much time it took Idia to get this. Most likely our group stumbled in just after Idia finished the last touches.
Anyhow, with the aus, definitely Idia would make an explanation video is 2 conditions are met:
1. There's no secret identity/danger situation/hurry.
2. Idia has access to his tech.
The best example in here is the NRSSAB, where Idia makes content revolving around doll repaints. It is a staple of his that he's soft spoken in there and manages to explain pretty in depth. He also makes other kind of explanation videos, but that is smth that the avid visitors of this blog didn't yet find out. ;3
The Demon/Angel magical girl au and the genshin au are, probably, the only 2 exceptions and I'll get as to why:
In the first one (it's a oneshot, mainly revolving around Ace and Riddle), Idia is a reaper. A magical girl whose powers were coming from within, thus he's responsible to handle more delicate missions. Ortho, post his death, is an angel, who tries to get used to this. And while Idia had both the time and tools necessary to make videos abt this + experience from working with angels and their guardians, to help his little brother understand, he has a more practical approach to things. A more warm approach if you will, as a way to help his brother cope with all these drastic changes in nature.
As for the double Genshin Isekai au, in here it revolves around the movie event genshin hosted once. As Fontaine is revolving around steam-punk-ish tech, no doubt they would have vintage movies(Think of the Charlie Chaplin, or if you want sound & color, the ones after the 18th century). But the production is hefty and it takes a lot of time and effort. In here, Idia loves machines and likes to dissect those suckers as a past time. Because, when he was little, he dismembered a perfectly working guard robot, Neuvilette introduced him to the movie camera, per condition that Idia cannot dismember it. The camera opened on the side and it showed all the mechanisms, thus Idia didn't need to actively take it apart. So he took a liking to it and how movies are made. Hence why his burst attack is revolved around the movie setting. And since going to NRC for school(post the oneshot), Idia joined the board game club, too anxious about going in the film appreciation club, but sometimes Furina insists for he 'little brother' to film certain shots. Ortho, as a fellow movie club member, absolutely feeds into the fire. (your honor, they are besties U-Ub)
Basically he doesn't make simple videos in here, but helps in making full blown movies. :v
Yes, Furina absolutely is the main actress in Idia's movies. Big sister privileges, am I right? U-U9

Nikki tell us your thoughts on the Princess Peach game
Omg ok i havent finished it or anything, but ive played at least 8 or 10 levels. There's more to the game than I thought there'd be so I'm thankful for that!
Most of the levels are pretty simple, and I'm kinda sad that the second Patisserie level is actually easier than the first.. which maybe isn't saying much because the game is simple and therefore pretty easy overall. But I wish Patisserie had more going on just because I'm such a sucker for sweets themes.
I kinda wish there were more action buttons somehow, but maybe that doesn't make much sense for this game's mechanics. I think I also wish I had more control over Peach's actions. Figure Skater Peach is fun to move around with, but I don't fully feel like I'm in control of what animation she chooses to do when spinning. I'd say Mario Galaxy 2's ice skating feels better, but that's like comparing apples to oranges.
But that doesn't mean I'm not having fun! The Swordfighter levels were pretty damn satisfying as well as the first Ninja level! The Detective level I played was really neat, and the first Dashing Thief level was neat to play as well. I like the cinematics of the first Cowgirl level and the Figure Skater level.
The hardest challenge I've done so far has been a bonus level for Dashing Thief, and it only felt difficult because I couldn't control the glider well. I don't know if this is just a me problem, but it really felt like you had to memorize the layout of the gems, or have very good "reading ahead" abilities to avoid getting hit. It just felt unusually precise to me, and in comparison to the levels I've played before this, I don't fully know why. To be fair, the only other thing that came close to being as hard was the Swordfighter bonus level, so maybe these bonus levels are supposed to be harder than the rest of the levels. But again, they both feel hard for my lack of control over how quickly or fluidly Peach moves. Which. Ends up being more frustrating than satisfying. Again, not sure if that's a me problem/git gud problem.
I'm still playing and feeling it out, I guess.

Kept you waiting huh?
Oh boy it's DMC4 guys! Probably the hardest game in the series to talk about that isn't the reboot and for reasons that veterans probably can already suspect but let's just say that I ain't looking forward very much to some of the stuff will have to offer later down the road
Not now though, now's the time for fun!
So unlike previously I'm actually playing on a New Game + on the highest difficulty mode AND Turbo Mode turned on, which speeds up character and enemy movements by 20%.
This is probably a very bad idea on my part given that DMC4 is not the game I'm best at in this series and I'm also a bit rusty as of now, which you can see by how throughly I got bodied by the literal tutorial boss
Oh yeah: unlike DMC1 and 3 which told newcomers to git gud fast or take a hike DMC4 actually wants to be pretty beginner friendly in a number of ways, firstly by having an actual tutorial serve as the intro stage!
Normally I would complain that it's boring but honestly? The cutscenes intersperced between the gameplay help make this tutorial kind of fun and memorable
(Also these people worship Sparda as their God and given that Dante is Sparda's son this means that, from their persepctive, Jesus just came crashing down from a window and shot the pope right in the face. Also Dante is Jesus)
So here we have our new boy to the group Nero!
So Nero was very blatantly created to be beginner friendly character since his gameplay is way simpler than Dante's:
unlike the Red guy Nero only has one sword, the Red Queen, and one gun, the Blue Rose. This means that Nero's moveset is certainly more limited, which is why to my knowledge, back then, some ultra experts hated him. However this makes Nero very easy easy to pick up and play and there's lots of genuine fun to be had in his simple style because what he lacks in complexity he makes up for in cathartic aggression
Nero's #1 signature ability is his Devil Buster: he can grap any enemy in the game that's close to him and initiate a unique animation (unique to every enemy and is also different depending on whether or not you have Devil Trigger on) that will have Nero going ape shit on the poor demon dealing great damage, it can even be used on bosses if you manage to stun them. The Buster is hella fun to use because of the variety of animations and just how fun it is to see Nero just lay the smack down on enemies. You have to be careful though: you're not invulnerable during the animation so don't think it's a get out of jail free card!
If you're locking onto an enemy when using the buster you'll instead drag the poor sucker towards you or, if the enemy is too heavy, you'll drag yourself to it. This is great because it gives you greater freedom across the battlefield and it can also be used in mid-air, causing Nero to be generally a better air-combatant than Dante.
Then there's Nero's gun: when you start it's really weak, but you'll be able to buy upgrades for it which will allow you to get 3 different charge levels for it. Do yourselves a favor: go into the options screen and switch the button for Nero's gun for one of the shoulder buttons. This will allow you to charge the gun while you're fighting with your sword thus always having a charge shot ready. This makes MUCH more of a difference than you might think (or even I at first) because the third level charge shot is DISGUSTING: not only does it do great damage, if the enemy survives it will explode seconds later for even more damage, which may even hit nearby enemies!
Poor Berial, the game's first proper boss, gets fucked so hard by the fully charged shot even on DMD! Before I thought this guy was a pain on DMD because I could never properly combo him without him suddenly swinging his big ass sword around and knocking me on my ass. But if you keep your distance and play it defensively while hitting him with charge shots Jesus did you see his health?
There are other gameplay mechanics related to Nero, mainly his Exeed gimmick and his unique Devil Trigger, but I'll save them for later.
Aw yeah the first few stages of DMC4 fuck pretty hard if you ask me!
....too bad this won't last forever...

Just read most of Kamisama Kiss, spoilers for Kamisama Kiss, Howl's Moving Castle, and Fruits Basket, Inuyasha, Romantic Killer beware
I need recommendations for stuff that's basically "It was you all along"
Sofie traveling back in time and telling Howl to come for her in Howl's Moving Castle
Nanami going back in time to save Tomoe and in the process of trying to keep the timeline how she thought it happened (him falling in love with Yukiji) she creates that and he falls in love with her
It was her all along
A non-time travel variant of this can be Tohru and Kyo from Fruit's Basket, especially with the bait and switch with the hat, but like, he knew and loved her all along (not immediately in Kyo's case, but he wanted to know her if I remember correctly)
I'm a sucker for all variants of lifelong companions
Childhood best-friends who lost touch and forgot about eachother only to reunite and fall in love all over again, memories slowly returning
one or both reincarnating and finding eachother again, Inuyasha was close but I disliked how they handled Kikyo and Kagome as reincarnations, it would've been nice if they had explored more of the fact that they're the same *soul* and what that means, as is, Kikyo is so horribly different from Kagome, vindictive, cold, etc etc, its hard to believe that they're kinda the same person, you can see it a little in how loud Kagome is, as like, an extreme version of Kikyo's quiet vindictiveness, but there's just too much dissonance between the two that it feels it was only a plot point for the drama + bonus damseling Kagome for a hot minute, which dont get me wrong, love a good damsel moment, but thats just when its done well, and I dont know if I can say Inuyasha handles its damseling well
A smaller variant of this was done really well in Romantic Killer, best show, where knowledge given at the end of the show recontextualizes everything before it into a micro "it was you all along", where every action Anzu did to avoid Kazuki and the whole romantic otome game plot line actually helped him and he found himself falling in love because of it, breaking his phone on accident when his trauma was acting up so he was able to briefly recover, and not pressing him on it, avoiding him (not treating him like a piece of meat) and standing up to girls who dont care about what HE wants
Yeah, stuff that recontextualizes things works really well for this I think, like Nanami making sasamochi for Tomoe when he was sick, and we see a brief flashback of someone making him sasamochi when he was a kid, and we learn later that it was also Nanami here and he was pretending to be a kid
His favorite food is sasamochi because Nanami made it, and Nanami made it because it was his favorite food, a closed loop
Side note: Kamisama Kiss has one of my favorite portrayals of time travel ever, it makes perfect sense, doesn't hurt your brain, and makes things 10x better by recontextualizing everything you thought you knew without breaking it
But yeah, this is a really long winded way of asking if anyone has recommendations for media that fulfills this particular niche, preferably without spoiling the good stuff if I choose to read it for myself, I used a lot of examples so hopefully that gets across what im looking for
I should probably do a breakdown of what I liked so much about Kamisama Kiss, I said a lot here, but yeah
"It was you all along"
gud stuff

Thaiboy's production on some tracks is just okay
Despite Thaiboy's presence in the Drain Gang holy trinity, his production on some of the songs is just okay. This isn't his best work yet. But it isn't the worst either.
Tiger is Thaiboy Digital's first mixtape. It features Thaiboy's autotuned voice, and synthy production by Whitearmor. The song "I'm Fresh" is a great self-affirmation. The title is hypnotically repeated, and it has a drill-inspired rhythm.
The album's title, Back 2 Life, is a reference to the fact that Thaiboy has lived through many changes in his life. This is an opportunity for Thaiboy to share the lessons he's learned with his fans.
Yung Gud's solo work Yung Gud is a producer with a distinct style. His sound has evolved from euro-trance synths to a more analog palette. His production is very detailed, with prominent guitar parts on several tracks. The instrumentals are often catchy and ethereal, but are also very real. His music is a combination of EDM-flavored trap. He has also remixed songs for other artists. His work with Meek Mill's "Monster" and Tinashe's "2 On" both garnered positive critical reviews.
As a producer, Gud has worked with many different artists, including Travis Scott and Halsey. His newest album, Foreign Exchange, is a collaborative effort with Rx Papi. Gud is executive producer of the album. He was so impressed with Papi's work that he reached out to him directly.
Exile and Sunset in Silver City Unlikely candidates include Swedish rapper Bladee and his ilk. The sexiest male in the house is not your typical rapper. Nevertheless, Bladee is the man for a reason and the rest of his crew has no problem in getting their respective t-shirts signed. The only problem is that they want to be pampered in a swanky club. Luckily, Bladee has a sexy wife to take care of the ladies. The man is a sucker for a good ole' fashion ladies night. Not to mention the obligatory man-on-the-land shenanigans and the twosome. The best part is, he's not a picky eater. If you're looking for a date worthy evening, head over to Bladee's posh abode and the aforementioned patty will be yours for the princely sum of $10.
Stardust Yung Lean has returned with a new mixtape titled Stardust. A 35-minute masterpiece, the album features the usual suspects and some notable names. The album's big winner is "Bliss", which features the incomparable FKA twigs. Originally conceived as a collaboration with Playboi Carti, it didn't make it. Despite this, the track is still an ear-splitting blast of twitchy drums and ear-wormed vocals.
Stardust also features a pair of successful mode-switching collabs. Yung Lean, who has been at the helm of the Drain Gang for the better part of a decade, has managed to remain at the helm of his own ship despite some hiccups along the way.
Ecco2K's debut album Using Ecco2K as a guinea pig may have been akin to a first person test subject, but the sandbox has not slowed down the Swedish duo, nor the mercenaries en masse. In fact, the likes of the aforementioned duo have racked up some serious cash in the biz. As a matter of fact, a couple of the lucky boffos have been awarded with a check to the tune of tens of thousands of euros. Despite the fact that the duo are still in the process of reshaping their respective businesses, a brief chat with the lads in question revealed that they have a solid grasp on the business and an amenable appetite for finer brews.
Bladee's drain gang music videos Yung Lean and Bladee are members of Drain Gang, a group of artists and musicians that has become a cult of internet fans. The band is made up of musicians, producers, and singers. They are known for their unique style. They have gained a lot of traction online and have become a source of inspiration for people looking for an alternative to mainstream music.
Bladee is a Swedish rapper and record producer who has become known in collaboration with Yung Lean and the Sad Boys. He has released several albums that have been very important to the group. His fourth studio album was released last year, and it was produced by frequent collaborator Lusi.

I love what other people love, which ought to make me a fair-weather fan and bandwagoner, except I'm just as like to hop on a bandwagon of one as one thousand. It's not the volume that entices me to chase the unfamiliar, as new love often first blooms from the concentrated strength of one passionate individual whose own love is so large it colors their delivery, their mannerisms, falling into a series of gestures when language fails to fit the love inside it.
DOOM is famous and beloved, and famous for being beloved, so it's not surprising I got suckered. The original game is a year older than me, but I never took to my dad's early FPSes which are more or less indistinguishable from the Win95 maze screensaver in my memory. Once - and only once - I attempted DOOM Eternal and decided that it would be as good a game as everyone said if I could get good at it, which I never would. Any nostalgia I have for this title is secondhand, borrowed.
Watching people describe the particulars of a pivotal and historic game franchise is just as good, if not better: the lifetime players, the code-wranglers who dissect the meat from its bones, the modders who frankenstein its components into something new and sometimes more. A curious strain of something not solely nostalgic, often calling out why certain features or mechanics were products of their time. Although a person may measure remakes or remixes against the feeling those features made odd and offputting by time gave them, it's usually threaded with an appreciation for what these games begat, the lineage within and outside of its franchise that permeates the games of today. This love presents a compellingly beautiful tableau of history stretching out like a long road across a vast landscape, surveying all the landmarks between your position in space and time and the turning point, and then looking still further at the old path that lead to the first turn and all the potential promise of the road ahead of you, its landmarks yet unbuilt along unseen future turns. As described, the history of this road is a series of impressive decisions and miraculous happenstance that enrich your appreciation of this present moment, one you can traverse by playing those games now even if they don't build them like they used to anymore.
By proxy, I have come to love System Shock, too; a comparatively less mainstream title significant to DOOM for its fundamental differences in design philosophy that shaped its own subsequent genre of immersive sims, though it, like DOOM, refined and enhanced the foundations laid by prior games. I have at least beaten Dishonored, whose lineage I too can now trace back to System Shock, but my love of that game is personal, particular, individuated, and unaltered by this new knowledge. It is love of my playthroughs of the game and all the challenges and triumphs and comedically absurd failures I, personally, experienced, the product of my interactions with the game and its interactions with me.
Secondhand love is exemplified by individuals but isn't a single voice; it is love, spectated in aggregate, an amalgamation of all the harmonies and dissonances of so many voices all pontificating or shouting or insulting one another. The dissonances and even vicious disagreements only heighten the feeling: among the rubble of the most aggressive discourses between the Souls games' 'get gud' crowd and those who disdain them, you can find almost poetical, lavishly sincere overtures to what the games have come to mean to people on either side, pure sweetness among the ashes.
It is the exact feeling of some impossibly generic movie scene where a love interest discovers the mean bad boy has a soft spot for baby animals and falls head over heels, too archetypal to be real. It feels absurd and a little narratively cheap, but I fall doe-eyed for it over and over. Even beyond the fishhook feeling of sharp surprise that softens, the discovery that these are fights people think are worth having not solely out of anger but out of love of something colors all my perceptions after. The assholes remain irritating, the mild revulsion at people who have perspectives and philosophies of games and the world that are deeply incompatible with my own persist.
Sometimes love grows so large that it breaks free, the jagged edges of the hole it punches in language or polite discourse letting in a sunbeam through a broken window throwing its object and all its dirty, rough, ugly imperfections into sharp relief. The thing is suddenly illuminated so perfectly it is obviously unlike any other thing on earth even as the wider world floods in through the hole love left, seeking connection - and sometimes, peering in through dusty windows or passing by an ancient landmark on some unrelated journey, secondhand love finds me.

Here we have... *gasp!* NEW OCs! Only one new reference sheet, but yeah we have new gals in the house! Why no dudes? Fuck you, we love and appreciate women in this house! (In all seriousness, it’s just because I’m pretty bad with designing male characters sssshhhh)
Anyway, here we have Vivian “Vivi” Alvarez, Evelyn “Eve” Odell, and Roxanne “Roxie” Morgan!
The one with Vivian and Evelyn was drawn by @avelokadrawsguts, and the Roxanne reference sheet was drawn by @rileyomalley.
Vivian is a character that I came up with with a friend of mine YEARS ago, but didn’t really take shape until Late 2021/Early 2022. If it wasn’t obvious by the last name, Vivian is Sasha’s “younger” twin sister. She’s missing the few tattoos she has in this, but so is Evelyn. Their tattoos were designed after this was done.
Speaking of, Evelyn is actually the newest of the three featured, but various circumstances kept her from being realized until this couple piece with Vivian was drawn in January 2022. She’s actually Olivia’s Step Sister, as Olivia’s mother remarried after the death of Olivia’s father. Evelyn and Olivia get along about as well as Oil and Water in the beginning, but come to care about one another, and see the other as family before long. They still bicker though. As said with Vivian, Evelyn’s tattoos are missing because they weren’t designed at the time of this commission being drawn.
The final girl, Roxanne, is the one I’ve honestly barely touched since her creation. She’s Abigail’s cousin, as Abigail’s father’s sister is one of Roxanne’s mom’s (she has two moms by the way). She’s also Olivia’s best friend, so that’s cool too. There are some other details I’m still working out, as I’m finally sort of finding out what I want to do with her.
Oh, and obviously, Evelyn and Vivian are a couple. I actually didn’t initially plan to have Vivian be in a relationship with another girl (as I want to at least TRY to have some straight people in this cast), but it just kinda happened. Roxanne is 100% going to end up with a dude though. I’m dead set on that. I just need to git gud and design dudes first.
I have a few things featuring Vivian and Evelyn (I’m a sucker for sapphic romance what can I say?), but I really need more of Roxanne.

Match up for Apex~ I'm into males. My personality is a little shy, very quiet because I'm lowkey judging you. I don't have a strong temper but I can be emotional at times. Once you get past the not so hard shell you see the side that most people like. I'm a sucker for dark humor and will probably laugh at anything. BUT FRET NOT! My humor isn't broken. I am generous but it depends on the situation. Then I'll start thinking for myself. I dunno if this was gud or not but this is romantic thing :]
Your romantic match up is with Revenant!
Revenant sees you before your shell drops. He doesn’t care much about what’s the personality under people. He’s always seen the people before him. So he’ll warm up to you before you even drop the shell. Which is great for you.
Your dark humour sits with Revenant very, very well. He’ll joke about anything morbid, and the fact that you’ll laugh along is great. He’s so tired of seeing people make faces at him for his comments. He’s getting tired of killing them because they’re annoying. Thankfully, you share the same kind of humour. You can sit with him.
Your low temper and emotional state is the opposite of what Revenant brings, which is high temper, low emotion.
Your flip-flopping between generosity and selfishness is also similar to that of the simulacrum. When he feels like it, he can be useful, other times, he just wants something for himself. This is something he like about you. Too many people are people pleasers, and he’d rather just please himself (and you).
Your human match up (if you’re not into simulacrums (jk)) would be with Caustic.
