How convenient that you can request a SIM swap over the phone – for every cyber criminal out there.   Think about it: How easy is it to impersonate you and answer your security questions?   All that is needed is: Your ID number This is probably available in your email or on your device. With passwords being leaked, email hacking is easy. Your device can get stolen. You might’ve filled in…

So, this is the Government of Canada trying to look like it's "doing something" about online harassment in the wake of the suicides of Rehtaeh Parsons and Amanda Todd.
By paying for faux-viral sponsored tweets saying "Hey kids, ignore it and it'll all go away!"
I remember being repeatedly told "Ignore it and it'll all go away" when I was bullied as a kid. It didn't work then, and it won't work now. It puts all the responsibility solely on the victim. It's not going to do jack for threats, bigotry, or smear campaigns. Those don't magically become "nothing" when you block, or filter, or walk away from your screen.
The term "cyberbullying" even makes it sound like a children's problem that people grow out of. If only! If only. But the Conservatives are obviously appealing to the Scared Parents demographic this next election cycle, so I can expect to hear more trite answers to complex social problems, via paid ads from the government...

Blog Posting #2
#1: There are a million ways to change the world. What do you think the characteristics are of effective action? What makes a particular type of social action important and why? How does your plan fit in with these characteristics?
There are tons of ways to create change in the world, and most of these changes start with one person. In order for these changes to happen, an individual needs to take action. A characteristic of an effective action would be to engage the people you are trying to send your message to. For example, I am project targeting teens of all genders and ages for my project so my action would be the most successful if I did something that all teens like, such as sweets. I have set a goal that for one of my actions I would hand out free cookies to students at school. This would be an efficient action for my project because I am attracting the right target audience in a way that interests them because it involves sweets and it’s complementary. Social actions that make change are the only ones that are important. If an action does not have any effect in change, then it is not useful. My action falls within characteristics like this because it will be engaging and will still teach people about cyber bullying at the same time.

I regularly scan through my spam folder and get to see the good, the bad, the ugly and the weird: Get instant poop!   In a world where everything has to happen at the tap of a finger, I guess ‘instant poop’ is just one of the new normals. Spam email or not, this is still pretty funny sender name: Funny spam email.   Always think before you click, and if in doubt, don’t click on it.   #Tech #Tip…

I check my spam folder regularly, because sometimes legit emails slip through.   This also means that I get to see a lot of spam emails. Always again I’m surprised how well crafted some of these are.   There are numerous lists what to watch out for in phishing emails, but some emails tick all the boxes: At first glance this email looks legit.   This email is in my spam folder, so I know to…

I check my Spam Folder regularly, as there are always a few emails that shouldn’t have been categorised as junk. I find it just as important to whitelist emails, as it is to report anything fraudulent.   Quickly scanning my spam folder also teaches me the latest scamming methods. Of course, there’s always the same same: Too good to be true get rich quick offers, any health problem disappearing…

This scam has been around for a while, so luckily the internet detects it as fraud right away. But it’s so well done, so simple, and so easy to fall for when busy. The messaging and sender change frequently, from emails to chatbots, to notifications from pages. So watch out for this:   In my Facebook Notifications, a notification from ‘Community Standards’ pops up:   The message from…

#HowTo spot a fake profile on LinkedIn: Don't get distracted by tits!
#HowTo spot a #fake #profile on #LinkedIn: Don't get distracted by #tits! #BeCyberSmart #GetCyberSafe #ThinkBeforeYouPost #InternetSafety #OnlineSecurity #eSafety #CyberTips

There are lots of fake profiles out there on social media.
A quick and easy way to confirm the validity of a profile is by googling their profile image.
LinkedIn is no exception. Having over 15,000 followers on LinkedIn, I get a lot of connection requests.
But my trained eye spots the fake content right away, especially when it involves tits.
Yes, don’t be gullible, a profile picture that…

I’m always suspicious about calls from an unknown number. Mostly it’s spam, or even worse an automated cold-calling nuisance.   But it could also be something important, so I hesitantly answer and check what the call is about. At least that gives me the opportunity to request my details be taken off their database (if I’m lucky and it’s an actual person) or simply block that number.   When I…
