Hi! Hope you're doing well <3 I been reading some of your posts about LO and Greek culture in general! And as a non-greek I think your culture is amazing and it should be respected as any other culture, so, I had this question a little while ago
I made a couple of characters based on greek myth creatures, and I kinda had a story for them in an ancient greek inspired world (highly inspired tbh, I think it might take place in an ancient greek ambience as well), but now I think that might be insensitive (?) I don't know how to express it, but I just want to know, would it be ok if I continue with that idea or should I scratch it?
TIIIME TO FINALLY ANSWER THIS
I am really sorry for the long wait! I was trying to think how to answer this properly and also mustering the energy for it xD I will pin it so you can find it more easily, if you come back to the blog.
For starters, you can write whatever you wish. I am hesitant to say to people “you can't write this and that” because it might make people feel estranged and uncomfortable and I believe that distance serves no real purpose. Yes, it’s likely that a xenos won’t be making the story VERY culturally accurate but if the story is 30% culturally accurate as opposed to barely 5% which we see in the popular media today, then it’s still a win. Not to mention that Greeks themselves are not 100% culturally accurate most of the time in their Greek mythology stories. This happens because 1) Americanization has hit us hard 2) They write them just for fun without bothering to research much. We are also lucky if we have a 30% accuracy in our texts most of the time.
(I love percentages if you can’t tell 😂)
You might have figured out I have the tag #writing (and perhaps also #writing advice ??) where I answer these type of questions, so visiting it might help! I'm not gonna tell you if you can write it or not - you can write whatever you like - but I would advise you to treat the Greek culture like any other real or fictional culture. Do a proper “worldbuilding”, let’s say.
THE CREATURES
As you know, some are more serious and some are more playful. They don’t easily “switch” from their behaviors so it’s best to keep a serious creature serious and a playful creature playful throughout most of the story. Some reading is needed, to figure out how the ancient Greeks saw those creatures. Because assumptions are usually not helpful. If we have no clues about their behavior, that’s free real estate I guess 😂
Now, if you are going for the “almost like Greek culture but not quite” thing, that still needs similar studying. You need to know where you are basing those creatures and how they see their world - or how the world sees them. And what elements make sense to change.
You can still not base the characters nowhere and just have a gal with snakes in her head. You can do that xD However, if you like to be more in touch with the culture you need to use some context and the “ambience” you talked about. It’s another thing to say “this gal has snakes on her head“ and another to say “this is THE Medusa“.
Some Greek culture needs to shine through. I mean, it would be great if it could shine though in general, so your references and basis to Greek mythology are better. It would be safe to assume the ancient folklore creatures have some Greek culture in them since they have Greek names, they have been written in Greek stories behaving according to the Greek societal rules and ethics, and generally being symbols in Greece until our days. And your story is about Greek mythology, so you want to emphasize the Greek aspects of your heroes and world.
THE ANCIENT GREEK INSPIRED WORLD
I don't know what research you’ve done so far but I will begin from the basics anyways. Ancient Greek ambience, as you can probably guess, is not “chitons, wine, vines and white pillars” 😂 The ambience specifically doesn’t come from the aesthetics but from the feel of it - the food, the customs, the symbols, the dances, the language interjections, the behaviors and values. Parts of the culture are also how is reverence and modesty are expressed, what makes someone present “manly“ or “feminine”. So, it’s gonna take some research.
People usually write some of the aesthetic and think they are covered, even though their worldbuilding is bad, precisely because they have only presented the very top of the iceberg. No food, no dances, no certain behaviors, nothing. You could say they are “soulless Disney remakes”. 😂 You can also do that, but you need to know how it will come out. It might be quite bland and, if I am not mistaken, you said you want to avoid that. (And I think most of Greeks would tell you that they don’t mind a Greek “soulless” remake but it would be super extra great if you put cultural elements in).
Ok, I don’t mean make it like an encyclopedia, but presenting some stuff from the culture is how you get the ambience. You might as well take a writing advice list for worlbuilding stuff you must have and see which ones you can find irl from the Greek culture.
Important! Remember that nearby cultures affect each other, so if you change one element from the Greek culture it’s likely it has to be changed in other cultures next to your area. If wearing green makes you manly in Imaginary Greece, it will also make you manly in Imaginary Turkey and Imaginary Bulgaria, let’s say. (there is no “ancient Turkey” or “ancient Bulgaria” as countries - and depending on the era, “ancient Greece” is also not a thing - but you get my point xD)
For the interpersonal relationships/interactions, you can read some ancient translated texts presenting daily life situations of the ancient Greeks (start from Googling stuff, I really don’t have sources for that xD). It’s very likely that the ancient sources won’t give you a very defined feel (try it anyways, if you like). Therefore, I suggest you see interactions of modern Greek people.
Worry not! YouTube - through me xD - has you covered! Searching the tags #greek tv #greek youtuber #greek podcast and #video. On youtube you can even find vlogs of people visiting Greece and see interactions with the locals. (If you have trouble finding them, you can send me another ask).
Similarly, it might take months to find all the Greek language interjections so you can go for modern ones. Besides, many interjections like “popoo“ are ancient. Besides, if you are not making a very “serious” story, the modern touches might help it feel more in touch with the present.
Surely, people are people everywhere and humans between countries share cultural traits, but there are some slightly more predominant stuff depending on the culture. Cultures close to each other share more traits, so, if you can’t find any Greeks around, you might be able to find our neighbors. Middle Eastern, north African, or south European people (and Hispanic/Latino Americans!) around might help to understand the dynamics between friends and family members. If you already belong to some of those cultures, congrats, you have most of the formula figured out!
I gave so much space to the interpersonal relationships because that’s gonna give you an idea where the line of “respect” is. Surely, the ancient interpersonal relationships won’t be like the modern American ones 😂 There is no way a student goes to Chiron being like “hey, man, how you doin?” Knowing how Greek teachers were, as late as the 20th century, that’s gonna earn him a slap 😂
Another thing: saying “Good morning” and “good afternoon / goodnight” when you first and last see people in the day is VERY important and the best social practice! You won’t be considered rude if you don’t say them but in a slightly formal and especially professional environment, better use them. (Other modern Europeans also consider this a good practice.)
The most ancient greeting of Greeks is “be happy” (χάιρε / χαίρετε) but health is also very important and is another old greeting. Xάιρετε is more formal in our days and Γεια/Γεια σας ("have good health”) is the most used formal and informal one. Seeing how people wish health in the middle east, it might be that the Health thing has been here for centuries. Also, if you break something or something bad happens to you, we say “health” because having your health is more important than anything else.
Fun fact, “Charon“ (Χάρων) probably means “the happy one” :P It has the same root with (χάιρε / χαίρετε).
Many other social cues can be found in the tags I mentioned, but you can send me an ask if you need to know something more specific!
As for the food, you can find ancient recipes and even use modern ones (which are usually with the same ingredients). Same goes for dances and symbols. You can google stuff about them, go on Google Scholar and search there, as well. (Also, google pages where you can download those papers for free ;) ) Please do some cross examination to make sure that this element indeed exists and it’s not just one person pulling it our of their a**. 😂
If you can’t find info, you can lean on modern symbols and dances. The dances are similar through the centuries anyways. No one is going to come for you if you say you based an element on a modern Greek thing bc the ancient one was impossible to find with the resources available to you.
I don’t have many more things to add on these cultural elements because I already have tags for the modern ones. #greek cuisine #melomakarona #greek dance #greek custom #greek tradition etc.
And, last but not least, research the weather!! I can't stress this enough 😩 We are not a desert and we are not the Tropics. If your weather is similar to the Greek one, then your creatures most likely will need some serious covering in Autumn and Winter 😂
All in all, it’s certainly not a piece of cake to write about other countries and cultures but, if they are open to let you in, you can learn stuff and do your best depicting them. It might not be perfect (and no work is actually perfect) but it would be a step to the right direction and might encourage more writers to do the same - instead of throwing some chitons in and calling it a day xD
If you have any other questions feel free to send me another message (dm or ask). You - or anyone else - REALLY WON’T BOTHER ME if you ask me many questions on my DMs or here.

taggiing @severus-snape-of-spinners-end for reasons
The redhead stood quietly in the greenhouse. Despite the Hufflepuff affinity to plants and Earthen practices, the only other person in the rows of plants and herbs was Neville Longbottom. His voice drifted to her from the next row, explaining the plants that would help her sleep.. since she didn’t want to approach Madam Pomfrey for a dreamless sleep drought. Ask Snape ---No. They were both a means to an end for each other, and he would direct her to Madam Pomfrey anyway.
Strangely, she knew what herbs Neville was telling her, she knew them in the accordance of strength however. Herbology hadn’t been her FAVORITE class, but she was simply naturally good at it, like Neville. She knew when was the best time to harvest, and how to cure them properly. And she could almost hear the whispers from the plants she sought in the greenhouse. Hazel eyes shifted as she started toward the well cared for lavender, and smiled at the irony. Her very chatty and rather hyper friend was named after a calming plant meant to help one sleep.
“There isn’t enough ready for harvesting to make a new round of potions if I take any..” she commented softly, her fingers reached, touching the purple blooms. Her eyes widened as she inhaled the overwhelming smell of lavender, calm sank into her body deep to her bones. She felt the oncoming sleep almost dragging her under, her body remained upright.
The field, once barren, sprouted around her. Suddenly. In a rush of wind. Long hair whipped around, upward, downward, wrapping around her arms. She smiled, starvation had caused deaths to flood the river Styx, and she would stop it. “That should help the mortals.”
A hand settled on her shoulder, “Ruby?!” Voice panicked.
Eyes, more green than brown, looking up, blinking, “did I fall asleep?” At this point, she was on thirty six hours without sleep. And now, she was hallucinating.. or dreaming while awake, but that was the same, wasn’t it?
Nevile however, stepped back, looking down. “I’m not sure. Do you feel okay?”
If she blinked, she might fall asleep again, but she couldn’t stop the automatic body command as she followed his gaze. There was SO MUCH red. Not blood, but close enough in color, HAIR. My hair, her hands --leaving the flowers finally-- to lift the mass of suddenly and outrageous length of hair off her shoulders. It wasn’t heavy, that seemed strange because her hair when it grew always felt heavier sometimes. “Wha--”
Both students jumped at the sound of a door closing. It wasn’t necessarily against the rules to be in the greenhouse without a teacher, it was just unexpected to see Professor Firenze. Both because of his size, they should have heard his approach, and how did the centaur manage to fit through the doorway.
It almost seemed OBVIOUS to Ruby, how did she know, but she whispered a name, “Chiron..?” Chiron, a healer in mythology, she knew because.. well, she was competitive and it didn’t do her any good to NOT know the answer. To be answered with a nod, and she tilted her head, “What’s happening?”
The centaur looked strangely uncomfortable, and while Ruby was used to not getting a straight answer from him, she completely fell into more shock when he spoke, “it would seem The Fates have deemed you our missing goddess..”
Missing Goddess?! Brow lifted, skeptical, not amused, but had she ever heard the professor make a joke? “I’m sure there’s a better choice for a GODDESS than me. I’m clumsy, I’m absent minded, I’m hardly anyone important.” I’m the girl no one knew about.
“Ruby.. you’re kind and helpful. A good friend, who spends hours listening to me talk about plants.” Neville seemed to be accepting the news easier than she was.
She exhaled through her nose, looking at her housemate, then to the professor. She could SEE his divinity. That hadn’t been there before, and she’d just been in his classroom that morning. “Who..?”
The centaur pointed at the tree behind her, she turned as she heard Neville speak, “it’s not in season..but..”
There was fruit hanging on a tree that wasn’t meant to bear for another three months. A pomegranate tree.
“You’re the goddess who ate the pomegranate and was bound to the King of the Dead. Persephone.”
She knew the stories, every known story of Persephone claimed she was kidnapped. But she remembered. There was no kidnapping.

Achilles said.°
🙈🙉🙊
“Ho? The greek Cú Chulainn makes an appearance!”
Fashion: ☆☆☆☆ - “His armor is really cool! Very hero-like, I have to admit. But... wearing an orange scarf despite his hair being green? I don’t know about that.” Humor: ☆☆☆☆☆ - “He seems like a really fun guy! I don’t think it’s possible to get bored with him around.” Morality: ☆☆☆ - “It’s not my place to be judging other heroes, but... I’ve got questions about certain things...” Propensity toward criminal behavior: ☆☆☆☆☆ - “Why do I get the impression that he might actually try to fight that kid Paris?” Orderliness: ☆☆☆ - “You don’t become a good warrior by lazying around, though he seems like reckless type too, doesn’t he? (As if Cú can talk!) And... I think our teachers' methods were significantly different? What do you mean Chiron didn’t kill his students?” Physical appearance: ☆☆☆☆☆ - “A really handsome guy, I must admit. He really has the appearance of what people imagine an ideal warrior to be. Plenty of muscles, right? That’s cool! But, you know... I still can kick his ass in arm wrestling so...” Personality as a whole: ☆☆☆☆☆ - “He’s a self-centered idiot but a really cool guy too.” Tolerability: ☆☆☆☆ - “I think he would be great company and fun to talk or spar with... but if he tries to steal the spotlight from me...” What my muse finds most annoying about yours: “People really throw my story under the bus by comparing me to that guy. We’re not that similar! And what’s with the ‘Irish Achilles’? Just because Greek mythology is more popular...” (I’m not salty, says Proto Cú in the saltiest tone.)

Well This Can’t Be Good
Camp Half Blood Genderbend Chapter 1
Read on A03
Read on FFnet
In which the demigods of Camp Half Blood have their genders changed. And the Hunters of Artemis. Did I mention they're mad at Dionysus? Remember when everyone was safe and alive and happily living at Camp Half Blood after Heroes of Olympus with Leo and Solangelo? Nope, I don't either.

*Annabeth*
Annabeth woke up to the sound of screaming.
She raced out to the Athena Cabin's porch, ignoring the sick feeling in her stomach. After a second of searching for the culprit of the screaming, she wasn't surprised to find that the Aphrodite cabin was running around, as fast as their Gucci high heels could take them.
What she was surprised with, though, was that the rest of the camp was running around in the fray.
Annabeth hurried back inside, absentmindedly stepping over one of her brothers who was asleep on the ground and grabbed some of her clothes to change before dealing with this mess. As she closed the door she finally took a look at herself through the mirror.
Wait.
Her hand floated up to where her hair used to be. She scanned over herself in the mirror.
Hades...
She quickly changed and bolted into the main cabin. "Uh... Anyone else feeling different?" She called.
"ANNABETH!" Her youngest brother, Riley, screamed. "I'M A GIRL!"
The ten-year-old most certainly was. His usually short blonde hair was now styled into a bob, and he had a more feminine shape to his frame. She looked over the rest of her siblings, noticing Hannah, Riley's twin, was now male, her long hair gone.
She cursed as Malcolm walked over, looking uncomfortable. "Any ideas?"
He shook his head then paused. He had seemed to come to the same conclusion as she had.
"Dionysus... last night." She groaned.
"He is the Greek god of gender." He nodded.
Annabeth sighed as she ran her hands over her face and pushed the new hair covering her forehead out of her eyes. "C'mon. We gotta tell Chiron."
--
Seconds later, a certain son of Poseidon swung open the door to the Athena cabin the same time she was pulling it open.
"Annabeth." He sighed, slipping his fingers through hers as she pulled him and Malcolm along to find Chiron.
"So... what happened?" He inquired, trusting she would have the answer at hand.
She didn't.
"I- I don't really know." She blinked. "The gods' powers are hard to understand. But think about it; Dionysus is the god of gender."
He whistled lowly. "Last night." He guessed.
"Yyyep." Annabeth pulled a face.
They stopped as Chiron cantred up to them.
"Annabeth?" He guessed.
"Yes. We think our genders have-"
"Changed." Their teacher finished gravely. "I suspected that much."
Percy raised his free hand tentatively, looking around at the panicked state of the camp. "Just wanted to let you know; the Aphrodite cabin is having a full-on panic attack. Drew fainted, but at least she is out for the count. On the other hand, Piper is probably using a bit too much charmspeak."
"Got it." She stressed, then turned back to Chiron. "We were just coming to find you. Counsellor meeting?"
"Yes. Percy, can you run and find Piper? I hate to pull her away from her cabin and their... panicked state, but we'll need her charmspeak to calm down the rest of the camp if Drew is unconscious. I'm worried that we won't be able to calm everyone down without her. Malcolm, Annabeth; go find the cabin counsellors."
"Already on it. Malcolm; I'll do one to twelve; you get everyone else."
Percy and Malcolm ran off ungracefully to find their respective peers.
Annabeth turned to him and sighed. "And to think we only had nine days until school was back in and no drama."
Chiron chuckled sourly as she ran off to find the remaining eight head counsellors of the Olympian gods.
--
An hour later, the demigod head counsellors of each cabin had communed in the Big House rec room. Ten minutes later, Dionysus had communicated (through his sons, of course, because he wouldn't speak to anyone else) to the demigods the idea that they might have to get used to their new bodies.
Clovis even woke up from his chair in the corner when Nico screeched, "HOW LONG?!"
He was already sulking in a corner, Will rubbing his forehead as he tried to coax his boyfriend out of the shadows.
"Calm. Down. Nico!" Will placed a hand on his boyfriend's shoulder. "It might actually be interesting!"
"And wait until Hazel finds out you're a girl!" Piper finished. Nico and Will glared at her simultaneously as she and Leo laughed. "She might even want to come over and stay a bit."
Nico's hair was even longer than before. Annabeth stifled a laugh at the thought that Piper purely wanted to braid Nico's hair, now that she had more to work with. Even Annabeth rarely escaped that.
Nico just groaned and buried his face in his hands.
Dionysus' son chuckled sourly. "Well, at least we didn't change."
Leo laughed. "What do you mean? You're missing out!" He cackled as he threw his head back and set his mass of curly hair on fire. Annabeth didn't like how this was going. He was definitely enjoying this way too much.
"Well!" Annabeth directed a soft glare at Leo which made him sit up and pat the flames out of his smouldering hair. "I guess we just need to go back to our cabins and..." she blinked. "Well, any questions before that?"
Samantha from Hebe raised her hand and didn't wait before she called out; "Should we change our names? You know, so they're similar but respective genders?"
Annabeth considered this. "No. That would be too confusing. Keep your names."
"Pronouns?" Someone under the table asked.
Annabeth grimaced. She knew this would be difficult to explain. "Well... let people know what pronouns you go by. We can get wrist ties in pink, blue and green, maybe. I know the pink-blue idea is sexist but it'll be the easiest way to silently communicate the pronouns across. If someone uses the wrong ones, just correct them, please."
"How will we get different clothes?"
"I guess we could trade clothes with our siblings, or close friends," Miranda Gardener shrugged, "Or the camp store. How about getting the camp store to give every camper two outfits? That should be enough if everyone else swaps, or you can just wear the clothes you have now."
"Perfect, Miranda," Annabeth nodded. "No more questions?" She inquired, looking around the room. When nobody spoke, she continued, "Well... let's just be grateful that the Hunters left last night. During the night... oh no." She groaned. "Does anyone have a drachma?"
Percy passed her one, and as she was about to throw it into the fountain on the wall, a perfectly timed Iris Message came through from Thalia.
There was almost as much screaming there as there was at camp this morning. Thalia stood in the front of it all, looking almost unchanged.
"Annabeth!? Explain."
--
*Piper*
The Aphrodite Cabin was in shock. Piper needed all of her influence over her siblings and some other panicking campers. Fortunately or not, Drew was still unconscious.
"PIPER!" Dianne screeched, "I have nothing to wear, my hear is completely ruined, and I can't wear makeup, because I AM A BOY!"
Piper sighed and held out her hand in a 'stop' motion. "Dianne, we all have problems with this. Take a deep breath, exhale, inhale, calm down." She didn't even notice she was using charmspeak until the rest of the cabin seemed to stop and breathe a louder.
"Listen, everyone. No screaming, please. And Lacy, can you write this down for Drew? I really don't want to explain this to her." Piper breathed a long sigh of relief as Lacy, the cabins resident secretary, nodded and grabbed a notepad from the chest at the bottom of her bunk.
"This curse has been given until the next Summer Solstice. That's in about nine months time."
She took a sharp breath, expecting Drew to raise up from the dead, or someone to override her charmspeaking powers. Thankfully, nobody did and Drew remained unconscious.
"Dionysus issued the curse, so there's really no way to reverse it. We're not going to change our names, but you can change your pronouns if you so wish, and we'll have bracelets or anklets made with your pronouns written on it if you want it. You're getting a free outfit from the camp store, you could swap clothes with your siblings, and you can obviously fund your own shopping antics if you choose to buy more," But knowing her siblings, Piper muttered, "Which you can sell or donate or something at Summer Solstice."
She tried to remember what else Annabeth and Dionysus' son had mentions regarding this situation.
"Oh yeah. Also, because Dionysus is ever so merciful, the mist will change you back to your normal selves outside camp borders, or really when you aren't near any mythological beings. So you won't have to be worried about your school, or parents." Piper grimaced, hoping none of her siblings' parents or their siblings could see through the mist. But Aphrodite wasn't really one for telling her lovers about the whole 'the Greek gods are alive and thriving' thing.
She rolled her eyes, remembering that Annabeth mentioned quietly to her afterwards that the real reason Dionysus had more control over the mist inside the camps barrier and he was pretty powerless in the outside world. She wasn't about to mention this to her siblings though.
"The Hunters of Artemis are going to be especially annoyed, so if they come over in the next three quarters of the year please try not to pick any fights with them. Any more questions?"
Nobody called out, and Lacy scribbled on her notepad for a second more before adding a dot to the end of her sentence and nodded, "Is Artemis male now?"
Piper shook her head. "Dionysus doesn't have that sort of power over another god, especially another one more powerful than he is, and Artemis can always change her form anyway."
Nobody else called out, so Piper took that thankfully as no more questions for her to answer with her limited knowledge of the situation.
"Great. Well, it's time for breakfast. Quickly, get changed and we'll go. We still have the next nine and a half months to survive and to figure this out."

headcanon dump; riptide
rip also is very adamant about telling percy that annabeth wasn’t the first person to ever suggest he use the pen/sword as well a pen, that - nico had asked him
first, but he didn’t do anything.
much like her weapon counterpart, riptide can change form, she just chooses not to. she is happy with the age she portrays herself as
riptide can change her form much like gods, and much like her weapon counterpart. ( ie. hairpin disguise to pen disguise, and from pen/hair pin to weapon, etc ). but she just prefers the way she looks, and keeps it that way. she doesn’t want to make herself look ‘younger’
riptide tends to go by rip, or ana, if you want to give her a nickname
that trip that percy, frank & hedge took to the aquarium? they had to hold riptide back because she was about to break open all those sea monsters free & her hate for this almost out weighed her sense that these guys were bad news. she knew from the moment, but they knew getting her inside quick enough will anger her and sometimes riptide’s anger can cloud her.
Riptide held the door closed for at least 7 of the 12 minutes out of sheer want and need to protect percy and annabeth, this was by herself as she let the others rest.
riptide as totally gonna let herself stay down in tarutrus, she knew that this may be the one time she might not be able to return to percy if she chose to stay down there, to hold that button. all that mattered to her was percy and annabeth making it safely up and back in the mortal world.
her and lucy, would have willingly stayed so bob could see the stars again. with lucy holding the button and riptide holding off all the monsters. because their demigods are more important to them, then their own lives. they both would have died to save their demigods
riptide&mortals
riptide can physically touch mortals, she can interact with them
she just can’t physically HARM mortals, unless who she is tied too, has a weapon that can harm mortals.
like, at hoover dam, just as percy swung sword riptide, physical riptide threw a punch, both of which - went straight through rachel without harming her
riptide’s eyes look like the ocean, like she has it in her eyes, literally. to mortals & most demigods they’re just a blue-green
riptide would never give percy the answers to test, she will let him get to the answer himself. she almost hit a kid in school for saying she did that. she’ll help him to understand if something doesn’t make sense, but would never just give him the answers.
she has a temper like the sea.
riptide, when at yancy academy, pretended to be a teachers assistant. this got her closer to all the students that struggled, and a feel if they were demigods or not. percy was screaming at her that he was a demigod but, she, chiron and grover had to play it safe.
upon, becoming tied with percy, she acts as an aid for percy in school. that she specifically knows how to help percy understand the lessons given.
the amount of times rip would have wanted to yell at any kid who mocked percy for her ‘being there’ that list is very long.
she knew tyson was a cyclopes upon first meeting him. but wanted, needed percy to figure that out on his own.
much like her weapon counterpart, when pulled away from percy or dragged away - will always return to him.
riptide REFUSED to go ashore to see Heracles, this is part of why, when the seven got their that Percy was aboard the boat.
i can’t remember if i said this before but; percy sugar cats telling his mother stuff, where as riptide would be like ‘yeah he almost died. like three times.’
riptide, always posed as chiron’s help until they found percy, like a teacher aid / student teacher kind of deal. then, because once riptide is bound to a hero, she can’t be to far from them. she poses as someone who helps percy with his dyslexia, mist works it’s magic to allow this to go mostly unquestioned
riptide isn’t really the kind of person to keep things from the heroes she’s been guardians of. she has a a hair clip of zoe’s, and that was just about it. as most of the heroes, gave her no credit, dropped her before their time - or there was nothing to keep when they did meet their time. so, when it comes to percy, he changes that. he changes a lot of her views on heroes, much like he did with zoe. if he were to ever die, she’d keep his camp necklace. she’d wear it around her neck.
when zoe dies, a part of riptide dies. zoe is the only person this happens with, because if it weren’t for zoe, riptide would possibly be dead already as she was just a young protector when zoe found her. and it was zoe’s breath and promise that made riptide one of the few immortal ones.
being from the greek mythology, rip uses the greek names, not roman. cupid is eros to her, hercules is heracles and so on
#what belongs to the sea will always find it’s way back ( riptide canons )#we're standing on the edge of queue#long post tw
