This is my new OC, Guanch. He looks like a monster from a trading card. He loves Pablo Neruda but hasn’t read him in Spanish and has never googled him. He knows how sex works but not what it is. He prefers the old powdered lava hand soap. His job is being a coworker for other people’s OCs and other AU fics. You are only allowed to ship Guanch with the moon landing. He smells like a stapler and he thinks Goofy is real.
If you get too precious about finishing your wip and try to be too perfect with your first drafts then Guanch will happen to you.

Historic ramble I suppose but as a historian I do get a bit offended when people refer to Al-Andalus simply as an "Arab kingdom(s)", since many of the previous people there who also invaded the region (such as the Visigoths) did convert to Islam and some retained their positions in power, and many of the "Arab" rulers were actually Imazighen.
It's more accurate to call it an Amazigh ""kingdom(s)"" (DNA research proves that many Portuguese and Spanish, especially those in the south like Algarve and Andalusia, have the most Amazigh ancestors outside of North Africa, which is why they are visually similar to one another and tend to have darker skin). Even more so than the Canary Islands, which were entirely habited by indigenous Imazighen (like the Guanches from Tenerife) prior to Castillian colonization. Which is sad because even if many Canarians today have indigenous Amazigh ancestors they culture has been nearly lost because of genocide (even if many Canarians are trying to reclaim their Amazigh/North African identity, which is a story for another time - and I wonder if you'd be interested in it).
You also mentioned this before I believe!
The way I started reading the first few words and was expecting some history revisionism (that’s usually what I get in my ask box about “Arabs and North Africa”) but I got pleasantly surprised. Cause yup while the conquest itself was done by both Arabs and Imazighen the people who actually mixed with the local and lived in Al Andalus were mostly Imazighen the Arabs left super fast their goal was just spreading Islam.
A southern Portuguese has more Imazighen ancestry than I, an Arabized Algerian, have actual Arab ancestry. The amount is still under 10% (I think it’s 6 or 8 I don’t remember the study exactly) but comparatively they have exactly 0 actual Arab ancestry.
I knew that Canarians were Imazighen (I’m also claiming Sicily by the way) but I didn’t know about the reclaiming of their Imazighen identity it seems really interesting!

New hobby is filtering the sale section in the Switch Shop looking for games with demos here are some I tried:
Arise: A 3D puzzle game where you play as an older man exploring vignettes from his past. The game is really pretty and it has an interesting time scrolling mechanic, but the controls are ponderously slow (which makes sense because your character is old but I'm impatient so it doesn't hit) and I found some of the puzzles confusing to the point that I wasn't able to finish the demo. Would watch someone else play
Griftlands: A rogue-like deck building game where you play as one of 3 characters and can approach problems either through negotiation or battle. I like the character designs (lots of cool-looking women for the sapphics lol) and the way you can always explore the interface to explain the world and the different card effects. I'll probably pick this one up at some point
Death and Taxes: You play as a Grim Reaper who has to evaluate a set of profiles each day and select at least one person to die according to Fate's specifications. Fate's voice acting and art are really pretty and it feels like it's building to something bigger than you can get to in the demo. I plan on reading some reviews to see if the payoff is worth picking it up
Not on sale but also
Guayota: A puzzle dungeon exploring game based on the mythology of the Guanche people of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. The concept of this is already really cool and I really liked the art. I think this would be really interesting if you like games that explore other cultures/histories (although it's not strictly about the Guanche). I don't think the Switch handles some of the scene transitions particularly gracefully so I'm looking forward to playing this on PC when I have more free time
#please feel free to ignore this#it's gamebro#long post#Can't decide what to call this coping mechanism lol

“Tenerife often gets put in the ‘mass tourism’ box. Well, why wouldn’t the locals want to make the most of their beautiful surroundings by catering to people who want some sunshine? BUT I have been absolutely blown away by the natural beauty of this enchanting island in the Atlantic. From the fascinating history of the indigenous Guanche people, to the stunning historical buildings of La Orotava and San Cristobal de La Laguna, and then the absolutely spellbinding, otherworldly volcanic landscapes of Teide and Anaga… Oh and the food is sensational. Mojo rojo 🫠 🌶️ This place is incredible. Here’s me nerding out over the tropical plants and striped upholstery in the lounge at the gorgeous Gran Hotel Bahia del Duque @bahiadelduque Me encantan Las Islas Canarias! ❤️ 🏝️”

School of Style – Nice in Navy: 3 Fast Facts
(source: © stylecheat.com, via pinterest.com)
“If your hair is done properly and you have on good shoes, you can get away with anything.” –Iris Apfel
1. Hair Health – Ladies, I wish to open today’s article, by discussing the model’s stunningly sophisticated hairstyle. I absolutely appreciate the fact that her ‘beach waves’ hairstyle, shows off her earring, as you may have noticed. Now ladies, a word about healthy hair: I had the good fortune of meeting a customer whilst working at Selfridges, in 2009, if I may recall. I was working for the fine jewellery brand, Links of London at the time (which is sadly no longer trading), and my customer turned out to be a fantastic hairdresser, who was interested in purchasing a hairbrush charm for her charm bracelet. We began a discussion about haircare, and she told me something along the lines of, “hair straighteners (flat irons) are very bad for the hair. Imagine pressing all that high heat onto your hair.” Can you imagine the damage being done? The reason for sharing our conversation ladies, is that, if possible, aim to make hair care a priority, and try and limit the use of heated hair appliances, if it’s feasible of course, and save them for special occasions. Moreover, healthy hair will always be a confidence booster ladies, as according to Dr. Anna D. Guanche, in her book, Seven Days to Sexy: Insider Secrets from a Celebrity Beauty Doctor, “Bad hair can undermine your self-confidence.”
2. Easy Earring – The next point ladies, is about the model’s elegant earring. In her book, L is for Lady: Lessons in Life, Manners and Style, Sarah Tomczak rightfully reminded me to, “Choose either dangly earrings or a big necklace, but not both.” Less is usually more ladies, so I’m hugely grateful that the model’s stylist decided to limit the use of jewellery, by selecting earrings, as opposed to a necklace, which as a result, promotes a polished and pristine finish, as well as a “clean” and “clutter-free” look, in the words of amazing author, Coleen Rooney. Personally, I am forever encouraging my clients, to take a more ‘minimal’ approach, when it comes wearing jewellery, despite my work experience in the jewellery industry, as mentioned in the above paragraph.
3. Wondrous Wrap – Finally ladies, let us now proceed to talk about the model’s statement sequinned wrap dress, which takes “centre stage.” Ladies, if I was asked to select a clutch bag for the model to carry her belongings in, I would not hesitate to select something that is muted and minimal. Nothing too fancy, and nothing too fussy. Something in a simple colour, and material. Definitely, no sequins to match her dress, no polka dots, no leopard print, no zebra print, but rather something basic and boring. Otherwise, she might look like she is “trying too hard.” This is because, the dress is “doing all the talking.” As well, you and I both know that “Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance,” as stated by Coco Chanel.
Love, KF X

What a day. I thought I was making life easier for everyone at the Host Appreciation Potluck by making single serve peanut butter pie shots rather than a peanut butter pie. I did not think it was going to be that much more effort. It was.
First I had to get the filling in the cups without making a total mess. Mostly sucess.
Problem. It turned out I needed to do a double batch to have enough filling. Que emergency run to the store. Thankfully the chocolate guanche was still moldable when I got back. I frantically tried to make the second batch with my cool whip still partially frozen.
Wouldn't you know it. My blenders cord pulls out of the wall while I struggle. I plug it back in. Only the blender is on. Filling everywhere including all over me. I manage to fill the other six cups.
The only bright point of this fiasco is that I thought ahead and the potluck is lunch tomorrow. If I had procrastinated I would be screwed. For now, my dessert is chilling overnight and I will add the graham cracker crumbs, and maybe some homemade whipped cream tomorrow morning.

One life for another. Your soul for theirs.

Things you should know
This is a WIP. The story is very long and what I am sharing is only the first draft. With time I could edit chapters that I have already published, changing some scenes or deleting them completely if I think it’s the best.
The language is in English, however, it is NOT my mother tongue and there will be grammatical errors. I would really appreciate if you let me know filling a bug report form so I can fix it. Link at the end of the post.
I'm a VERY slow writer, and I currently don’t have a schedule for updates, but there should be a new chapter every few months. However, keep in mind that I am only one person, and therefore, the time between updates can vary greatly depending on the length of the chapter and personal problems I may have in real life.

Today, May 30, is the day of the Canary Islands. It's not like this day is different in any way to any other - we already honour our heritage, indigeneity and ancestors every day, we eat in a very traditional + seasonal way, we spend a large amount of our time celebrating Nature (both in the wilderness and in our own roof garden), and as much as we can, we are as Canarian as it gets.
When I think about it, I see how much I have extended this day into the remaining 364 in the year – when I was a child, this was our day to be Canarian, and then we could go back to be spanish for the rest of the year. Never felt right to me, and I could not be more grateful to my grandparents, who held to our traditions fiercely, and passed them on to me.
I feel, I am, inseparable from this land and Her energies. Her power is my power, Her Spirits are part of my own soul, Her landscape is the faces and the bodies of the deities I worship; above all, Chaxiraxi, the queen of the sky, star of the dawn and the dusk, mother of all Guanches.
Happy Day of the Canary Islands 💖!

I’m confused, why do people from Spain don’t consider themselves Spanish? Like they say they are basques or catalanes but they never say they are Spanish, what’s wrong with that
Because not everyone who lives in what nowadays is under Spanish rule is Spanish. Is not that there is anything wrong with being Spanish, it’s just that it’s not accurate for everyone.
For example, I’m Catalan. I’m not Spanish, I’m also not Italian, German, or Mexican, for example. Not because there’s anything wrong with being Spanish, Italian, German, Mexican, etc. The same way that I’m a girl, and I’m not a boy. There’s nothing wrong with being a boy, I just happen to not be one.
I don’t know where you’re from, but imagine that now your country got invaded by another country. They force everyone to speak their language, celebrate their festivities and not yours, and say your people don’t exist anymore. Now, you still speak your language, you still make food your way, you still celebrate your festivities, sing your songs, live on your land. You would still be from your country, and maybe you’d consider yourself from the invader nationality or maybe not, that decision should be yours to take, not the invader’s. That’s what happened to us.
The reason why Catalans, Basques or other national minorities can get offended if you call us Spanish when we don’t consider ourselves Spanish is because this is an identity that has been forced on us, on our parents, on our grandparents... so when someone who knows we are Catalan/Basque/etc still keeps calling us Spanish against our will, we feel disrespected and like that person is not making any effort to understand our struggles or who we really are.
I know that I’m Catalan, I know what my culture is. But because my country was invaded 300 years ago by Spain (Castilla), now me and all my people are forced to live under Spain, because it took our land and we don’t get a say in it (we’re trying to get a say, but when we tried to vote on it Spain sent the military police to beat us up). If you look at my Identity Card, under “nationality” it says “Spanish”, but that’s not true, because I know that my nationality is “Catalan”, but the law doesn’t recognize the existence of my nationality. Regardless of what that piece of paper says, I know that I’m Catalan, and I know that I’m not Spanish. So if people keep insisting and telling me that I am, yeah I’m going to get angry because nobody else knows what my culture and my identity is as I know it.
And especially considering how Catalan and Basque people are treated for being Catalan or Basque, many Spanish people make it very clear that they don’t consider us really Spanish, but they still want to deny us the right to be what we really are.
While there are people who feel both Catalan/Basque and Spanish, there are lots of people who don’t feel Spanish at all. And when people force us to call ourselves Spanish it’s not only a mistake, but the oppression we’ve faced for centuries from Spain makes it more painful.
If someone made a mistake and called me Dutch, for example, it would be a silly mistake. I could say I’m not and be taken seriously, the person would know I’m not and that’s it: no problem. If someone says I’m Spanish, I’ll explain I’m not, and if they correct themselves that’s the end of it. But very often people don’t understand that national minorities exist, so they’ll refuse to see that when I say I’m not Spanish I really mean it, and they’ll spend the rest of the conversation trying to explain to me what my own nationality is. This has echoes of the way that Spain has systematically erased the existence of Catalans, Basques, Guanches, Galicians, Aranese people, etc for centuries, forced us to forget our languages through violence and humiliation (especially violence on and humiliation of children in schools, but also on the rest of the population) and denied us rights such as to study our history, language, to legally have our names in our language, etc.
It costs 0 (zero) € to respect national minorities when we tell you what our nationality is. If someone says they’re Catalan or Basque, that’s what they are and nobody else should get a say in it. Every other country gets this right respected, but because we lost our independence when we got occupied it seems we’ve lost this right with conquest, but we still exist, we survived and we’re still Catalans.

I’m the one who sees you home
“What do you need?” Anna asked. Kristoff just looked at her, as if she were speaking Guanche, but still fondly, as if he were pleased she could speak Guanche even if he hadn’t the faintest clue what she’d said. She wasn’t speaking Guanche, though, so his lack of comprehension meant there was a real problem. She hoped it would be easier than the other Recent Problems she’d encountered; at least he was sitting right beside her, warm and sturdy and present in a way that no one else ever quite was and when she looked into his eyes again, she saw that fondness was not all that was there. She moved just that much closer to him, the space of a breath, and saw how his lips parted.
“You asked me that, instead of where had I been or what in heaven’s name was I thinking. Instead of was I all right, which for the record, I wasn’t, not allright until there you were,” she explained, remembering how he’d caught her up in his arms as if it cost him nothing to reach out, nothing to take her back and hold her close. As if she hadn’t left him without a word. She’d been told by Honeymaren how they heard him singing after she’d gone, his voice echoing through the valley.
“I guess I did say that,” he answered. Part of her wanted to stop talking and just kiss him; that same part of her was usually convinced that enough dedicated kissing would be explanation enough and it argued persuasively, about how his jaw felt against her palm and the taste of him, the eager, overwhelmed, incredulous gasp he gave when she moved her lips to his throat. He had no expectation of being loved, so being adored was completely out of his frame of reference but oh how he liked it!
“You did and it was perfect, the way you manage to be a good 90% of the time, just perfect, and now it’s my turn to ask you, since I’m the Queen now and obviously you’re the Lord of Tyholmen but that’s just a title and I know you’re tolerating it but it’s not youyou,” Anna said. Kristoff was smiling now, which was nice, very nice, but he wasn’t happy yet and she somehow felt Olaf might have done a better job than she was, which made her sigh, lustily. Given their proximity, her emphatically lusty sigh was particularly effective. Kristoff was nearly blushing now and that was something she knew she was singular in observing, not just in Arendelle, in the whole wide world.
“I have everything I need already,” Kristoff said softly, sneaking an arm around her. Was it sneaking if she saw it and leaned in?
“You’re very sweet to me but no, you don’t. You don’t have what you need and I have a decent idea what that is, I think I do anyway, but you need to tell me so I can be sure. I can’t be happy if you’re not,” she said. She looked at him, directly, and let him look back without saying anything. She could be patient when it counted.
“Tell me what you think I need,” he said.
“No. That’s not how it works. That’s not how we work,” she clarified. He brushed back a piece of hair from her cheek which wasn’t actually loose, so he was simply touching her cheek, tracing the curve of it without any excuse.
“I need a place to drive my wagon. To listen to the ice. To wear leather, without anyone noticing—”
“I’m not sure there’s a place anyone wouldn’t notice you in leather,” Anna interrupted, to make him grin, which it did, and because it was the truth.
“I need a place where no one’s considering whether the Lord of Tyholmen would do whatever I just did. Or whether my title’s getting an upgrade, where there are no diplomats underfoot and no courtiers, no one saying how well we look together.”
“I think we look well together,” Anna said.
“So do I, sweetheart. It’s the hearing about it, in whispers or straight out to my face, how we look, whether what I do is seemly…I just need to be somewhere where no one’s looking at me but you. And Sven maybe,” Kristoff said.
“Not even Olaf?”
“Not even Olaf.” Anna clapped her hands, which was a little difficult to do nestled against Kristoff’s side but she managed it.
“I was right! Though if when you see it, it’s not, you’ll have to tell me I was wrong and we’ll start over,” Anna said.
“See it?”
“I found us a place, a…retreat. It’s sort of a cabin, sort of a cottage, though when you come from the east road, it looks a little like a chalet, kind of pointy, you know,” Anna said.
“A cabin-cottage-chalet?”
“A home. The palace—it’s not always the homiest, even though it’s luxurious and comfy and Cook has really mastered that lemon soufflé you like,” Anna said.
“The palace is your home though,” Kristoff said.
“Yes. But it’s not ourhome. I think it could be, if we have this other place, one that’s just ours where you can throw on your leather pants and go chop ice without anyone paying you any mind except for me and I can figure out how to do stuff that’s not Princess stuff or Queen stuff. Anna stuff. And we can have something like soup for dinner and I can wash the dishes and you can dry them and then go to sleep with just the stars and moon keeping an eye on us,” Anna said.
“You won’t want to live in the cabin all the time?” Kristoff said. She had painted a pretty nice picture though she’d never actually made soup and it might be terrible when it came time to eat it. She thought of Kristoff in a big woolly sweater, snowflakes in his hair, Kristoff carving something delicate as they sat beside a fire, his face lit by the lamp, all gold.
“We can’t,” she said. “I know that, so I don’t want it. Just sometimes. That’ll be enough for me—and knowing we will go back. Will that be enough for you?” He’d promised her again and again but she still kept asking the next, best question.
“You’ll be there, won’t you?”
Anna nodded.
“Then that’s all I’ll need,” Kristoff said and leaned in to kiss her, very deliberate and gentle and very, very sure. “There’s a lake, right?” he murmured against her lips.
“What do you take me for?” she retorted. Or tried too, but it wasn’t entirely successful. She glanced at Kristoff’s dark eyes, clear the way the lake’s waters were, and saw that she’d gotten close enough.
“My Queen. My wife. My Anna,” he said.

Canary Islands separatist flags being flown in a manifestation for Canary independence from Spain in 2010.
from /r/vexillology Top comment: I don't know the context of this specific protest but I've researched the Canarian independence movement and, while interesting, it has always been a tiny minority of opinions and remains so. This flag was created by proponents of independence (MPAIAC) but nowadays is much more used as a symbol of Canarian identity, not necessarily (and usually without) separatist tendencies. In fact, many people who wave it don't really know or consider the independence connotations of the flag. Canarian separatist movements failed to gain traction for a number of reasons, among them the fact that, although the Canaries have their own culture and identity, they don't have their own idea of a 'nation'. The pre-European inhabitants, the *guanches*, were completely wiped out - all the remains are genetic traces and some place names and a few folk stories. There isn't a Canarian language (there is a dialect) or a historical precedent for independence, like in Catalonia. There was actually a very small armed campaign, mainly minor bombings with few casualties. One time, MPAIAC planted a bomb in Gran Canaria airport, causing planes to be diverted to Tenerife airport. The increased load on the air traffic controllers combined with foggy conditions led to the [deadliest incident in aviation history](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenerife_airport_disaster) when two planes collided on the runway, which is a pretty significant stain on Canarian nationalism. The leader, Antonio Cubillo, was victim of an attempted assassination by Spanish government agents in Algiers, which left him and the movement crippled. Cubillo himself was a fascinating guy who was a great speaker. This all said, if there was a strong modern attempt for an independent Canaries, as long as they had a solid vision they would 100% get my support. I'm neither Canarian nor Spanish but I did live in Gran Canaria and think it is an amazing archipelago that deserves more recognition beyond being a tourist hotspot.

Beat The Stress With Most Wonderful Holidays In Organization With Kanari Tours
Although several peninsular invested childhood years assuming that the Canary Islands were located off the Andalusian coast bordered by a sort of square. The truth is that they are much further. Or rephrase, they are where they have to be; Perhaps it is we who are far from them. It is specifically that fortunate place that provides a friendly climate at any moment of the year.
Take A Day Tour
Teno Point
This tiny rough as well as sturdy peninsula is simply 10 kilometers from Buenavista as well as is the western factor of the island, a dreamland to get shed, fill up the lungs of ocean breeze as well as leave the hordes of tourists with I like Tenerife t shirts. In Punta de Teno, there is a lovely lighthouse (still operational) and a silent bay where you can see the surrounding islands of La Gomera and also La Palma, in addition to the Teno hills. Obviously, check out the weather condition before going; The road shuts when there misbehaves weather condition.
Cliffs of Los Gigantes
These remarkable high cliffs stand as imposing towers, with an elevation ranging from 500 to 800 meters. The ancient citizens of Tenerife, the Guanches, called this chain of sturdy hills Walls of Hell, as well as they generate fear. You can consist of the Tenerife scenic tours if you determine to make an excursion to the town of Los Gigantes, where it is possible to go diving, diving, kayaking, or pass watercraft to observe whales and dolphins complying with the steep line of the cliffs.
When traveling to the town of Masca
Masca is a community shed from the hand of God located in addition to a hillside dealing with the sea. It is a very photogenic circumstance, so it is incredibly popular among vacationers. That is why you should go early to prevent crowds and enjoy the spectacular 3-hour descent to Masca coastline.
Diving.
The crystalline waters and also the picky types that lava took when it cooled make Tenerife a superb setup for diving. The island has various diving centers for customers of any kind of degree, offering training courses from beginners to expert dives or merely boat journeys for sea enthusiasts. Tenerife activities are so much fun.
Parks as well as Attractions.
You have numerous Things To Do In Tenerife.
Parrot Park.
Loro Parque is much more than a zoo. This park, located in Puerto de la Cruz, inhabits 13 hectares and has a fish tank, a Thai town, an orchid yard, and a journey area for the little ones.
Golf in Tenerife South.
A good option for hole enthusiasts who want to invest a relaxing holiday in Costa Adeje is Golf del Sur. Theory : The parallel between Earth and Eldarya
First of all, I wanted to thank you, @yashiro-hatsuki and @bitchimunique, for your interest in my theory <3
As I was asked, I am sharing the theory I wrote about the parallel between Earth and Eldarya. I had proposed this theory on the dedicated topic on the french forum, but only a player had loved, the few others thinking that the writers surely had not done something so worked, because for them, there was too many holes in the script, and that was enough to say that it was not so worked.
Meh. I really like my theory and I'll keep it until something proves me wrong. Being an fantasy author myself, I know that you can work a lot in your world but still have some problems in your plot, as you can't prepare anything and write a perfectly coherent text.
Anyway, here is the theory. It is quite long, I hope it will be understandable with my hesitant English. So, first, so that you can locate you, I have placed landmarks on a map of Europe, you will only have to report to the corresponding number.
1 - Glas Gow = Glasgow
In her mission report, Cameria explains that after recovering the corrupted crystals in the Gran Ysmisse mines and fought an over-contaminated Magi, she found herself on the trail of the kidnapper. She followed the trail to Glas Gow and lost track there. In our world, Glasgow is Scotland's largest and most populated city.
2 - The mines of Gran Ysmisse = The sunken city of Ys.
It is in the mines of Gran Ysmisse that Cameria recovers some of the corrupt crystals that she brought back from her mission.
How did I get to the legendary city of Ys? It's very simple, I relied on the transformation of Glasgow= > Glas Gow, sensing that the team had rearranged the spelling so that it sounds better.
Gran Ysmisse = Grand Ys missed.
Ys is a legendary city of Brittany, France. Like Atlantis, Sodom and Gomorrah and other places, she would have suffered divine wrath because of the sins of her people and especially those of the princess, Dahut.
There are many variations, but there are similarities and Dahut is the central character of this legend. By mixing a little bit of everything, we can say of her that she is the daughter that the legendary king of Cornwall Gradlon had with a queen of the North, Malgven. The latter being designated as a valkyrie, she transmits to her daughter its fairy nature. Dahut is considered a fairy with the ability to change into a mermaid.
Some versions make Dahut the guardian of the floodgates that prevent water from invading the city. She and her mother are women of the Other World. It is the equivalent of Hell and Paradise among the Celts. The gates of the Other World were guarded either by Fairies or by Banshees. Dahut was one of those guardians.
In other words, she occupied more or less the same role as Enthraa.
The biggest sin that Dahut has been accused of provoking divine wrath is having sex with the devil.
When we look at the location of Gran Ysmisse and Glas Gow based on the position of their equivalents on Earth, we see that this route was quite accessible to Cameria
3 - Balenvia = Hamelin/Hameln
This is the comparison made by a French youtuber (la dreameuse) in one of her videos and I agree with her
As a reminder, Hamelin/Hameln, a german village, is known for his legend of the flute player. This legend is repeated in Eldarya: the flute player is the ancestor of Huang Hua. He would have used the powers of his flute to free the faerys, then he would have opened the mountain in two, allowing the faerys and some children of the village to end up on Eldarya.
This is how we find Balenvia, where there is a mountain cut in two. Huang Hua explains that his ancestor certainly didn’t open a mountain in two and that it is an exaggeration of the storytellers.
What happened in my opinion is that, arrived in front of the mountain, the fenghuang used the flute to open a portal on Eldarya, displaying the vision of the cut mountain of Balenvia. Once the portal closed, the mountain on Earth reappeared whole. Incredulous eyes may have thought that he had actually opened the mountain in two, when in reality they had had a glimpse of Eldarya.
4 - The Jade Coast (Kappa region) = Messenia - Laconia
To try to find the location of the area where the Kappas live, I used exploration map. At the bottom right is the Amphea river; we know it thanks to the exploration points. So I looked for the equivalent of Amphea on Earth and discovered that it was the name of an ancient city of Messenia that was on the border between Messenia and Laconia, two departments of the Peloponnese, a region of Greece. This is the first city captured by the Spartans during the first year of the first messenian war
(map in French)
Another detail that makes me think that I aim well with Greece is the Phibea sea. Phibea is the name of the first woman to have plunged into these waters (accordind to the exploration map), but it is also a name that is very similar to Phoebe, which is the name of several characters from Greek mythology. (In French, Phoebe = Phébe)
5 - Ezarel’s homeland, Lund'Mulhingar = Nordic countries
It’s difficult to clearly place a country / region. But by simply returning the name to a search engine, I quickly found a match. Two to be precise, namely two cities. The first, Lund, is a town in southern Sweden, not far from Denmark. The second, Mullingar, is a city in Ireland.
In the game, when we show the nomads the brooch, one of them says they don’t usually go to the Northern Kingdoms, which brings a new correspondence with the Nordic countries. Finally, the elves come from the myths and legends of these countries. Note: on my map, Glas Gow is included in Lund'Mulhingar. It should be treated cautiously, I chose the ease by drawing the route Lund-Mullingar. Maybe the border is not quite there, maybe it's a circle over Glas Glow. We know that Cameria has made it easy, but we don’tt know the political situation of Ezarel’country.
6 - Gorona Gorges = Canary Islands.
This is an NPC/PNJ that mentions these gorge in episode 21. He tells Miiko that it is there he found traces of mermaid. Leiftan explains to the gardienne that this is a volcanic region where lava flows.
While searching Gorona, I found a single interesting but surprising occurrence: Gorona del Viento, the name of a hydroelectric power station located on El Hierro island, the smallest of the Canary Islands. It was not enough as a clue for me, but it gave me at least a trail, the Spanish origin. But impossible to find a meaning in Gorona.
So I became interested again in the station, because the name had to come from somewhere. I finally found out what I needed: an article in Spanish dedicated to the name of the company.
That's how I learned that gorona was a common word in guanche and meant stone circle. The Guanche people were the indigenous people of the Canary Islands. This time, I had something solid. The guanches were of Berber origin. There are few written sources, so there were plenty of assumptions, including that they descended from the Atlanteans.
Anyway, that's how I breng the Gorona Gorges and the Canary Islands.
7 - The Dantea region = Greece-Bulgaria
One of the most difficult to find, especially since we are talking about a region. My first reflex was to look for Dantea, without success. I realized I had to look for the spelling of the word and thought of a French contraction. Dantea => d’Anthea (”of Anthea” in english).
And there, bingo ! Anthea exists. It is the name of several mythological female characters. This is also one of the epithets of the goddess Hera. Although it gave me an indication of the origin, I needed something else. I did not find a place called this, but I learned that Anthea was the Romanized form of Antheia.
And cities / villages bearing this name, I found several, mainly names of ancient cities. I had to fumble a bit for geographical clues related to these ancient places. The good thing is that we stay in the same geographical area, as you can see on this map.
And yes, if my hypothesis is correct, Danthea region is close to the Kappa’s.
8 - The Umbra valley = la Valle Umbra
Yes, it's not more complicated than that xD In the game, the Umbra Valley is the place where the nomads come from. In our world, la Valle Umbra is a vast plain with alluvial origin located in the center of Italy
? # 1 - The Eel region?
We don’t have much clues about Eel's location. I placed it here for a question of logic taking into account the positioning of Balenvia, which is not that far from the HQ according to the game
? # 2 - The Fenghuangs Temple?
Several players were surprised that we take the boat to go to the Kappas and that we go through the mainland to go to the Fenghuangs. This is because unconsciously, the fact that both are in the Jade Kingdom suggests that they are necessarily close geographically. Except this is not indicated at any time in the game. Lille and Marseille are two cities in France, yet they are opposite each other.
Differences and similarities of topography
In seeking these correspondences, I realized something for the places whose topography we knew. Some have similarities, reminders with their earth equivalent while others are the opposite, as in negative
Similar places:
- The mines of Gran Ysmisse and the sunken city of Ys: for these two places, we find the idea of depth
- The Jade coast and Messenia / Laconia: the contours of the two areas are very similar, there is even a mountain.
- Balenvia and Hameln/Hamelin: A small village, a path that leads to a mountain. Both villages have the same configuration
Places with opposite topographies:
- Gorona Gorges and the Canary Islands: For both we are on a volcanic land. But while Gorona Gorges are, well, gorges with visible lava that flows to the bottom, the Canary Islands have reliefs that can peak to more than 3000m above sea level.
Finally, there is another detail that I have noticed about the places that have similarities : there is always a portal, that it takes place in our legends or in the lore of Eldarya:
- The City of Ys: According to legend, Princess Dahut was the guardian of a door leading to the Other World
- On the exploration map of the Jade coast, there is a Torii, which was an ancient portal
- The ancestor of Huang Hua opened a portal in the village of Hamelin/Hameln
Ok, It finished. I am not saying that all my correspondences are accurate, but I think there is a good basis.
Thank you to all who have had the courage to read me to the end! <3 <3 <3
