Hmm I wish the game added more variety between a hardened Alistair and a non-hardened Alistair in the sequels.
Simon just met with King Alistair and he seemed not at all like the person Alistair was by the end of Gertrude's run. He also seems to be able to talk about Gertrude without a hint of anger, so that's nice at least.

Im seeing a lot of Zev/Warden posts on my dash today and its giving me Gertrude/Zev feels.
#Both feeling trapped by their bonds to an organization#gertrude also feeling bound by her duty to her family#both trying to figure out who they'd get to be outside these bounds#zevran seeing the rougher and violent side of gertrude and calling her beautiful for it#instead of asking her to soften her edges#gertrude seeing through zevrans aloof act and seeing him for the kind caring person he really is#gertrude telling zevran he can choose what he does with his life after they kill taliesin#and zevran telling gertrude she can choose what she does with her life after they kill Howe#i just love them#i need more cousland/zev fic that actually gets zevran as a character#gertrude cousland

Morrigan *hates* Gertrude. I don't think I've gotten a single approval point from her so far
I'm going to resist showering people with presents this playthrough, so if this continues I'll be interested in seeing what her low approval route is like.

So I'm 99% sure that Gertrude will not do the dark ritual due to the....extreme levels of distrust between her and Morrigan.
But imagining the other outcomes is so painful!
I could kill Gertrude---this could actually be an ending for her character arc that makes sense, though it would make her story a tragedy for sure! But poor Zevran, losing another person he loves :(
I could kill Alistair-- he and Gertrude are very close and parallel each other in some ways. I feel like his death would forever haunt her, she'd always feel like it should have been her.
I could...figure out a way to have her recruiting Loghain make sense and kill him! This would be very difficult, but (theoretically) the least tragic for Gertrude! Though it would feel like a waste of story potential to finally have Loghain as a companion only to sacrifice him.
I honestly have no idea how Gertrude's story is gonna end.

Yes I sacrificed Loghain.
I'm not happy about it but Gertrude literally could not find a good argument against his insistence that he be the one to die.
Also underestimated the hilarity of Morrigan asking Gertrude--who has a bad relationship with her and hates all things blood magic related-- to do a sex ritual together and make an old god baby via blood magic.
That scene just hits different when you have low approval with Morrigan.

Honestly, it sucks that switching your romance halfway through the game can mess up the companions' comments on it BUT. It made the difference between how the party treated Gertrude & Leliana vs Gertrude & Zevran SO funny
Like despite Gertrude continuously saying they were wrong and she wasn't in any sort of relationship with Leliana yet (they flirted ONCE for context), Alistair and Wynne were so nosy about it.
Alistair had a couple very "you two are so cute together <3" comments and Wynne lectured Gertrude for getting into a serious relationship as a warden and putting Leliana in a position to get hurt or whatever.
And then she started flirting with Zevran openly, all the time, and zilch, nothing. They're having heartfelt conversations about their tragic backstories, obviously sleeping in each other's tents, but this time the two camp busybodies are like "I see nothing, I hear nothing, I choose to believe this is not happening!"
And then they go to Denerim for the landsmeet and, for some reason, I get the "What are your intentions with her >:l" banter between Alistair and Zevran THREE TIMES IN A ROW!! (obvs, a glitch but also, very funny)
Like, okay, I get it, you guys don't like that Gertrude is with Zevran. JEEZ.

Gertrude saw Howe face to face in Denerim for the first time, and then was immediately ambushed by Taliesen (she is now romancing Zev btw).
So uh yeah, Landsmeet is going real smooth so far. Not stressfull at all!

Leliana and Gertrude are so similar but it's like they're going in opposite directions in their character arcs and it's making a romance between them kind of impossible.
Leliana was someone involved in a lot of violence and trickery, and she's trying to leave that life behind to be a softer, kinder person.
Gertrude came from a life of luxury where she was a softer person, but she has had to become a more violent and cunning person to be a successful warden. And she's starting to realize she's good at the fighting part and likes doing it.
It's not that they hate each other, in fact Gertrude has a higher relationship with Leliana than anyone else in the group, but Gertrude looks at Leliana and what makes her happy and just sees a life that doesn't fit who she is anymore.
tldr; as always, story beats do not go as planned for my ocs

Gertrude, who grew up not knowing being queer was an option (and therefore not realizing that she is queer), has in the last few months experienced
Morrigan flirting with her.
Zevran literally explaining the concept of bisexuality
Leliana compliment her hair and then telling her she enjoys the company of woman ;)
Leliana talk about her love for Marjolaine
getting a lecture from Wynne for being in a relationship with Leliana...despite the fact that Gertrude was not aware she was in a relationship with Leliana
I feel like she's just been doing this the whole time:

Literally everyone in camp is talking about Leliana and Gertrude like they're already together, but they've only had one flirty interaction and it was just. barely. flirty.
I haven't even fully decided if I want Gertrude to romance her!
I imagine Gertrude, who didn't even know she was into women until recently, is extremely confused right now.

I have never felt more strongly about a character's class specialization than I do about gertrude being a berserker.
It just fits so perfectly
