quickie since i forgot again and it’s 11:39 pm 😰
[Day 5]
auagahah the FEELS, this song just makes me CRY EVERY TIME, and if a song’s secured that it WINS, NO EXCEPTION
i haven’t watched coco in a hot minute, but i can remember this scene exactly, hector singing to his daughter about how he has to go away, but to, well, remember him. it’s honestly so sad, and coming from a person who’ dad i haven’t seen in, what, 3 years now? maaaybe more, but how she was effected by this, crying at the end when miguel sung it to her instead.
just even with how short it is, this song breaks my heart, truly. just the fact that when you hear him sing it, the voice acting is so good as it sounds like the actor’s nearly coming to tears themselves.
and if you know me, i am a SUCKER for acoustic guitar, and aahagah, it’s so SADD, AND I LOVE ITTTT.
ok i need to sleep before i cry listening to this on repeat /j

we need to talk about how powerful the “waiting on a miracle” instrumental is. The song is already incredible but it’s so rare for me to actually enjoy listening to just the instrumental! The bambuco rhythm, the waltz time THE CLAPS, THE BUILD, THE MUSIC SWELL TOWARDS THE END, THE PAUSE BEFORE THE DRUMS AND THEN THE LAST SAD NOTES AHHHHHHH!?!37/72!,!(!!. Mirabels so lucky because not only does she have one of the best “i want songs” but it sounds just as insane without her gorgeous voice💘 like the encanto instrumentals in general are insane I need to make a whole post about the wecid one!

Encanto: Casita —Aesthetic
Casa Madrigal's Character & Personality
The Casa Madrigal, or Casita, is a three-story quare building located in Encanto, Columbia. Created by a magic candle, the sentient house is home to the Madrigals. Casita is opinionated and flawed like a family. It plays favorites and messes with people. Casita's personality aligns with the Madrigal family's feelings, like being happy if the family is happy, or the house's walls begin to crack if there's discord among them. Generally, the house is kind and quite helpful towards the family, using its ability to rearrange its features to suit the family's needs or aid them in their daily routines. Casita deeply cares about the Madrigals and puts their safety before itself, even when it's falling apart from loss of its magic. In the end, the house becomes the new vessel for the magic.

URL Song Game
Got tagged by one of my mutuals (@maddiethesapphic) to do this game, but the original post was lagging my computer, so I decided to put the songs on a separate post here!
It was quite a challenge picking out my favorites; even with just these letters there were a lot of good candidates! I'm also curious to see if anyone actually checks these out or recognizes them, because honestly I'm pretty eager to get to share some of my music tastes! I will say though, it's pretty all over the place in terms of genre and sources...!
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
A - Another Believer (Rufus Wainwright)
M - Mébh's Tune (Kíla)
E - Embers of a Burning Dystopia (flashygoodness)
R - Reverse (Caravan Palace)
R - Road to Lisdoonvarna (Celtica)
I - I Bring You a Song/Looking For Romance (Frank Churchill and Larry Morey)
C - Collision Chaos Present JP (Naofumi Hataya, Masafumi Ogata)
A - Antonio's Voice (Germaine Franco)
N - No Strings Attached (Swingrowers)
A - Ave Maria, Op. 52 No. 6 (Leopold Stokowski)
R - Rapid As Wildfires (Yu-peng Chen)
T - Through Heaven's Eyes (Brian Stokes Mitchell)
W - What Would I Do If I Could Feel? (Nipsey Russell)
O - One Nation Under a Groove (Funkadelic) (This version is also very good!)
R - Rio Grande (The Oh Hellos)
K - Kingdom Dance (Alan Menken)
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
And for as many mutuals I can send this to: @laismoura-art @hail-strom @ghostlycoze @kociamieta @pansear-doodles @shkika @purpura-box.
And anyone else who wants to do this is free to join!

i'm not sure if you're still doing readings but
hii! my name is Priscilla butttt my dr name is David (i wasn't sure which 1 you wanted 😭)
but i want to know about my dr s/o rozz! and if he has a message for me or anything :")
thank you for doing these, you're very kind! take all the time you need <3
Hiii
Lyrics that stand out:
“When I hear your name
Too young too dumb to realize
Take you to every party
My selfish ways
Caused a good strong woman like you to walk out my life
Clean up the mess I made (did I just see you all at a masquerade ball?)
Close my eyes
Now my baby’s dancing
I was wrong
I remember how much you love to dance
Do all the things I should’ve done”
It seems like you and Rozz have recently went through something in your relationship where he messed up. He wants you to know that he absolutely can’t get you out of his head, but he thinks you we’re both in the wrong. He feels horrible for what he did and he wants to make it up to you. He’s hates the thought of losing you and seeing you live life with someone else. Everything reminds him of you and he’s saying he’s truly sorry and thank you for taking him back. He says, “I’m gonna get it right this time”.
Lyrics standing out:
“It’s wrong what I’m feeling
It’s so hard to make it
I don’t know what I’m doing
1 in a million
Never gonna change my mind
A child, baby
I’m ready
Are you ready for it
Gonna get there someday”
You all have finally mended your wounds and now you have scar tissue. Scar tissue is stronger than regular skin. You’re relationship is stronger than ever. He greatly appreciates how you all talk through your problems now and work together on things. I can feel the energy of how healthy your relationship is. He’s telling you that you’re it for him. He possibly wants to start a family with you one day if that’s what you’re open to.
At first, when this shuffled I was very confused tbh, then I thought that it may be that there is some sort of generational trauma or some kind of family image he or you feel like you need to uphold. However, since I read the song before this and what he had to say, I feel again that this is him saying you are his family and he wants to have a family with you, even if it’s hard. You’re his forever and he loves you so much. He will do anything for you.
Like I said, when I first shuffled Impersiones Del Encanto, I was confused. So I asked Rozz if he could send me a confirmation song if the past song was for you and about either some kind of family thing or some kind of image to uphold. What really stood out to me about this was mainly just the line “written in these walls are the stories that I can’t explain”. You and Rozz share a history that he loves and cherishes, be it the good, the bad and the ugly. He can’t explain his feelings for you, they simply just are. He feels almost like it’s fate. Maybe there was some family thing before. Maybe your families were rivals? Im not entirely sure on that, but no matter what societal thing that tried to get in between you, you all overcame it and he’s wanting to give you reassurance of that so you’re relationship can grow. You are each other’s family. I heard “we won’t be like them”.
I hope you like it, my love 🫶

Lya Lys in L'Âge d'Or (Luis Buñuel, 1930)
Cast: Gaston Modot, Lya Lys, Caridad de Laberdesque, Max Ernst, Artigas, Lionel Salem, Germaine Noizet, Bonaventura Ibáñez. Screenplay: Luis Buñuel, Salvador Dalí, based on a novel by the Marquis de Sade. Cinematography: Albert Duverger. Production design: Alexandre Trauner. Film editing: Luis Buñuel.
Salvador Dalí was a bit of a hack, more interested in making money off of the bourgeoises he affected to mock than in advancing his art. So it was inevitable that he and Luis Buñuel would part ways, especially after Dalï turned to the right, supporting Francisco Franco and embracing Catholicism. Although their collaboration produced two extraordinary films, the 1929 short Un Chien Andalou and the feature L'Âge d'Or, it was Buñuel's career that proved to be the more lasting in terms of critical respect. And if there's anything memorable about L'Âge d'Or, it's Buñuel's ability to bring the Surrealist aesthetic to life in semi-narrative fashion. The extent of Dalí's actual contribution to the film has always been somewhat in question, especially since one target of the film's satire is the Catholic Church, which Dalí never quite abandoned before returning to it enthusiastically. The movie is essentially a series of vignettes, starting with documentary-like section on scorpions, then tracing the efforts of a couple to consummate their love, always frustrated by conventional society and religion, and concluding with an episode derived from the Marquis de Sade's The 120 Days of Sodom, in which a group of people emerge from a castle where they have been participating in an orgy, led by a man who looks like Jesus. Bizarre images -- a cow in a bed, a woman sucking the toe of a marble statue, a cross decorated with the scalps of women, and so on -- punctuate the entire film, which is often unsettling and often very funny. The film's assault on the complacency of the bourgeoisie would become a constant in Buñuel's films, and the party scene clearly anticipates the experiences of the trapped partygoers in The Exterminating Angel (1962) and The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972). David Thomson has noted the similarity of the country house party in Jean Renoir's The Rules of the Game (1939), pointing out that the gamekeeper in Renoir's film is played by Gaston Modot, who is the male half of the central couple in L'Âge d'Or, but I think we can also see its influence in such French New Wave landmarks as Last Year at Marienbad (Alain Resnais, 1961) and La Notte (Michelangelo Antonioni, 1961).

Please forgive the writing rant, but god, I'm about ready to give up entirely. Sent in my latest chapter block to my editor, my current WIP is a commissioned romance novella that is quickly stretching into a full work. In it, my heroine Sara, a struggling sculptor/3D artist in her early 30s, hears a knock on her door early one evening. It turns out to be a very well-mannered young British man, a butler in fact, hand-delivering an invitation to her per the instructions of his employer. His employer turns out to be a man named Julian, who has been masquerading as a woman named "Paula Germaine" on paper for several years, in the interest of purchasing many of Sara's pieces without her knowing the real identity of her most prolific benefactor.
Julian's proposal is fairly simple: he grew up in hiding, the lost prince of a tiny Franco-Germanic nation that was absorbed fully into Switzerland in the 90s after their military was all but destroyed in a war with a bordering nation. To avoid total ruin, they denounced their queen, Julian's mother, and pled allegiance to Switzerland. Julian's mother fled to America with her small son to avoid assassination, and hid her son from potential kidnappers or murderers for over a decade. He rarely left his home as a child, but grew into an adult who is fluent in nine languages, has more than one doctorate, and after the death of his mother and his reluctant emergence into public life, the Swiss government allocated to him the royal inheritance that they'd been holding as no one knew where the lost prince of Valdoria had been for decades.
Before her death, Julian's mother had married an extremely wealthy day trader in New York, further supplementing the family's income and leaving Julian well beyond a millionaire when all was said and done. Now he's approaching 40, and while he's generally awkward and reserved socially, he also laughs uncontrollably at the faces barn owls make - nearly his entire TikTok FYP is owls, for some reason. He trips over everything, is self-conscious about his glasses, and he desperately wants to take care of Sara professionally. For him, this means financial support in every way she could possibly want or need - he proves his intent by opening an unlimited credit account in her name, directly connected to his own so that she has full access to his money. He expects literally nothing in return, has been terribly alone all his life and he fell in love with Sara's work long before he saw her face. He only wants to give her the world. A dream, right? And of course they're being stalked by some unhinged murderers because everyone loves a conflict.
My editor's thoughts:
1: "Sara's too old though, if he's only 40 she should be closer to 22 - 25."
2: "You described her hair as being short, you'll need to 86 that. No one's going to buy a book about a girl with a buzz cut being romanced."
3: "Also Julian's not intimidating enough, he should throw her around a little. Make a few demands for all the money he's offering to spend on her, you know? Cut out some of the quirks too, him being physically clumsy isn't attractive."
4: "He needs to be less shy too, basically just make him more aggressive and dominant. Looking forward to the next block!"
Me, having literally taken on this project in the sole interest of doing the exact opposite of everything she requested and writing a romantic hero who is vulnerable and gentle and emotionally wounded in ways that literally do not require him to force a woman to "save" or "fix" him:

Encanto: Bruno's Room —Aesthetic
Bruno's Tower
At age five, Bruno was allowed to move out of the nursery after being granted a room of his own. Each room is magic like Casa Madrigal. However, all rooms are much larger on the inside than the outside and are customized to each person's gift. The rooms also reflect their personalities as well. In Bruno's case, his room is a desert tomb filled with long stone stairs to reflect his distance with the family. The sand is also an important tool he must possess to use his gift and predict the future. This is relevant as it symbolizes time due to being incorporated into hourglasses.
