Aksel Jørgensen (Feb 3., 1883 - 1957) was a Danish, largely autodidact artist, who still rose to the position of professor at the Royal Academy which he held for over 30 years. His students included Asger Jorn, Albert Mertz, Bjørn Wiinblad, Gerhard Sausmark, Ib Spang Olsen, Palle Nielsen, a.m.o.
Jørgensen mastered the woodcut technique and his first works depicted life in a working class neighborhood in Copenhagen whose drunkards, brawlers, prostitutes and entertainers he loved to sketch. Later he refined his woodcuts even more in an Art Nouveau style, as witnessed by this work - one of the illustrations for Oehlenschlæger’s poem, The Norse Gods.

Gerhard Sausmark (Jan. 31., 1919 - 1995) was a Danish artist - trained at the Academy in the late 1930s and after that active as a designer of ceramics and porcelain (he even had his own factory). He also worked in oils (portraits and landscapes), murals, and “music paintings”. The latter genre involved live painting sessions during classical concerts where Sausmark would capture the stories and moods of the piece on canvas.
In the mid 1970s Sausmark started his own gallery and private art school in the Christianshavn neighborhood of Copenhagen. He bought a basement space which had been used in a massively popular TV series as a bar, and of course named his gallery after the fictional bar. For years his gallery was the most visited art space in all of Denmark.
