GOD i cant stop thinking about how weird it is that twilight was inspired by MCR which was inspired by 911. when everyone else was caught up in this aggressve patriotism as a form of defense and an excuse for violent bigotry, mcr said lets make something beautiful. lets make something that will let us heal. and then twilight and harry potter used to have this whole fandom feud, but ended up almost being two sides of the same coin. both deeply terrible and written by bigoted white women who either did nothing to amend for the damage her respective writing did, or actively tried to make it worse. and how they ended up sort of being married together by the creation of My Immortal, which is arguably a twilightified fanfic of harry potter, written by someone that absolutely worshipped gerard way. and how mcr was asked to make a song for the twilight soundtrack to which they said fuck you and instead made Vampire Money, a song about what itd be like if they succumed to capitalist greed and devalued their art by leaning into the edgy aesthetic beyond the end of its shelf life and whored out their emotions for profit. and then they broke up because it really Was killing them. and now theyre back. and then the WWWYf tour happened. and That happened. they turned it into an opportunity to make a giant fuck you to that selfsame concept, dressing up as a parody of what theyd have become if theyd done what the public wanted of them, if theyd stayed closeted and suicidal and become consumed by the addiction of selling that pain for profit. a point underlined by the contrast with how theyve been presenting themselves the past 3 months on their real tour, specifically gerard, and how specifically BECAUSE they took a hiatus, BECAUSE they didnt give into greed for more vampire money and didnt destroy themselves, they are alive today in order to be onstage now in front of us. awake and unafraid. a giant celebration of trans joy and affirmation and acknowledgement and love between them and us, their fans, specifically their trans fans. how they finished the WWWYf show with Vampire Money and no one in that crowd got it because no one in that crowd Would get it, and that perfectly crystalized their absolutely scathing point. and then on their real tour they made the more blatant but less serious reference by wearing a twilight shirt and talking about robert pattinson, just goofing off and having fun being gay, bc with us they finally can. and in the meantime, jk rowling has written a self insert cringe comp book longer than the fucking bible trying desparately to cling to relevancy and make herself out to be the victim in her own transphobia, desparately whoring out her bigotry for profit. and the fact that 50 shades of gray is just a twilight fanfic that caused 365 Days to get written and also kind of caused the normalization of fanfic getting turned into actual monetized netflix level media. but ofc its only okay when its cishet. the smut turned netflix series exuality is only acceptable when its straight. and its all toxic af!!! but somehow its fine that THATS plastered on every billboard!!! but the original queer people it was inspired by were shunned and shamed and now that theyre back from the dead, everyones trying to capitalize on their return. and they said go fuck yourselves!!!! and meanwhile the same type of people who hate us and them ARE succumbing to that greed, and theyre fucking floundering!!! just.i just. i. uGHGGGGGG

Stellt euch vor, Leute, für läppische 3,90 Dollar könnt ihr auf Amazon Brillo-Alltagskunst ergattern. Ja, richtig gehört, für den Preis eines halbwegs anständigen Cappuccinos. Hättet ihr allerdings eine Zeitmaschine und würdet ins Jahr 1964 zurückreisen, dann könntet ihr für ein bisschen mehr – sagen wir mal, für schlappe 200 Dollar – eine ganze Originalkiste Brillo direkt vom Lager mitnehmen. Und jetzt? Heute werden diese Dinger für Millionen bei Christie's und Co. versteigert. Verrückte Welt, oder?

Aber mal ehrlich, in meiner beschaulichen Kleinstadtjugend war Kunst eher was für Ärzte, Notare und meine Lehrer. Marc Chagall, Monet oder, wenn's hochkommt, mal eine humorige Zeichnung von Loriot – das war's dann auch schon mit dem kulturellen Horizont. Und dann, irgendwann in den 80ern, kam auch zu uns die Pop-Art angekrochen. Ja, ich weiß, ein bisschen spät, aber immerhin. Die Brillo-Boxen? Klar, die kannte ich. - Aus Büchern, Taschen Verlag und so. Tausendmal gesehen, tausendmal für doof befunden, dann wieder gefeiert und kurz darauf wieder als belanglos abgetan. Diese Boxen waren so eine Art ständiger Begleiter meiner Jugend. Nicht wirklich ein Thema, aber irgendwie konnte jeder was dazu sagen. Erst viel später, zwei Jahrzehnte um genau zu sein, habe ich die ersten Warhol-Arbeiten im MoMA gesehen. Und dann, nochmal 20 Jahre später im Ludwig hier in Köln. Genau diese Boxen, um die es hier geht. Wenn ich heute durchs Museum schlendere, stolpere ich immer noch über sie. Eigentlich biege ich direkt rechts ab, sobald ich in der ersten Etage ankomme. Die gehören einfach dazu. Komme ich mit klar. Brauche ich auch, um reinzukommen. Aber worum geht es eigentlich? Anfang der 60er schickte Warhol seinen Mitarbeiter Gerard Malanga in einen Supermarkt mit der Ansage, er solle etwas „ganz Normales“ mitbringen. Malanga kam mit Kellogg’s Cornflakes, Del Monte-Pfirsichen, Campbell’s Tomatensaft und eben auch Brillo zurück. Dann hat ein Schreiner Holzkisten gebaut, hunderte, exakt so groß wie die Original-Brillo-Boxen. Die Kisten wurden in einem öden Weiß angemalt, einige auch in Gelb, und anschließend mit Blau und Rot bedruckt, genau wie die im Supermarkt. Eigentlich hätte Warhol die Kisten auch direkt im Supermarkt kaufen und einfach seine Signatur draufklatschen können. Wäre auch gegangen. Und dann gings in die Galerie zum Abverkauf. Stellt euch vor, Andy Warhol hat mal eben 400 seiner Brillo-Boxen aufgetürmt, als wäre es das Lager eines Supermarkts. Das Ganze sollte den Kunstschickeria-Leuten klarmachen: "Hey, meine Kunstwerke könnt ihr im Bulk kaufen, wie eure geliebten Toilettenpapier-Pakete bei Costco." Quadratisch, praktisch, Kunst. Die Vernissage-Besucher fanden sich in einem Labyrinth aus Kisten wieder, eine Erfahrung irgendwo zwischen Vernissage und Verkaufsoffener Sonntag bei Lidl. Diese Aktion hat nicht nur für hitzige Diskussionen über den Kunstbegriff gesorgt, sondern auch Andy Warhols Status als Enfant terrible der Kunstszene zementiert.

Campbells und Brillo wie Lagerware im Ludwig gestapelt: Ein bischen "Brillo" lugt tatsächlich hinter den Campbells Kisten hervor und noch ein Klassiker aus der Pop Art - erkannt? Die Boxen wurden für 'nen Appel und 'n Ei, also zwischen 200 und 400 Dollar, angeboten. Eleanor Ward, die Galeristin, fand die Dinger allerdings so schwer loszuwerden wie ein Palettenkontingent Tofu-Würstchen auf einer Metzgermesse. Sie erinnerte sich: „Andy dachte, die Leute würden Schlange stehen, um sich eine zu schnappen. Wir haben uns vorgestellt, wie die New Yorker Elite mit Brillo-Boxen unterm Arm die Madison Avenue entlangflaniert. Pustekuchen.“ (frei zitiert) Was will uns das nun sagen? Klar, das ist Kunst. Darüber brauchen wir nicht zu diskutieren. Ob's hübsch oder was für die Vitrine ist, steht auf einem anderen Blatt. Für mich ist das Ganze ein Stück Nostalgie, emotional aufgeladen wie ein Teenager beim ersten Konzert seiner Lieblingsband. Hätte ich so eine Kiste zu Hause, würde ich mich freuen - Dauergrinsen, jeden Tag. Warhols Aktion war cool, brillant, ein Stück Genialität mit einer Prise Faulheit – oder nennen wir es Pragmatismus. So Good: Halsey: very emotional song. I've loved Halsey ever since my Tumblr friend turned IRL best friend @nat-wing introduced me to Halsey. Is it a positive song? Eh not really but I've always liked a lot of Halsey's more droning and melodic songs like Hopeless and Still Learning. So Good is very personal to me as 8 years on, I'm still fighting to let go of a lot of trauma from a past relationship and I'm just now beginning to feel okay enough to truly be open and vulnerable with people again.

To know just how much pain and suffering she's gone through but has turned around and made such uplifting and positive music. Kesha truly has been there during the darkest times of my life. Her album Rainbow truly speaks to my soul and Learn to Let Go, from Kesha's words herself "It's about embracing your past, but not letting it define you." I'm getting misty-eyed writing this but it's helped me process so much of my life and I'm still using it to process through things.
