Superman Or Geralt?

The Witcher premiered on Netflix December 20th. A few days before the holidays. The ironic thing is that some finished the eight episode season in one sitting or the traditional span of a few days.

In my case I recently started yesterday and in all honesty. I am hooked with this incarnation of the Witcher. At first I was really skeptical of the casting of Cavil. However the more I read about the project, and experienced the games. The door to understanding was opened with the key being "research".

One thing I found through my discovery was the admiration Cavill had about the role and archetype of Geralt of Rivia. For example Cavil hung up his red boots of being the last son of Krypton and traded them in for a illusive white wig with signature yellow eyes being the only trademark of a Witcher.

It seemed like a destiny was forged, due to the bond of the role because of Cavill playing all three games, and reading all seven books. The more I kept hearing about the passion evident in Henry Cavil. I was getting more excited by the minute.

Then all doubts were silenced. I watched the first episode. Let me be clear and state this up front. The show may come off slow with dumps of exposition littered throughout the screenplay. Or another gripe many express to me is the plot is choppy or bland.

In my opinion I haven't encountered any of those gripes from observing the first two episodes. The show picks up and doesn't let you go. Of course the perspective of character does change from Geralt, and the other core protagonists. Yennefer, and Ciri. I feel the transition of timelines and direction of plot is evident to invest character development, and flesh out the expansive source material.

Moving on the screenplay, and the enjoyment it brings. The casting is a true highlight. Let me be clear Henry Cavil was born to play Geralt. Even though the dialogue is a little dry but his presence and tone established from the nature of the character is accurate.

Juxtaposed to the novels where Geralt is very vocal, and the video game. Where the player molds there own narrative of the Witcher. It's quite ironic the showrunner actually commented on that point.

Another strength of the cast is Ciri, and her princess Zelda esque attribution to the plot. I enjoy seeing a character who is at the top of the societal mountain, and then a catalyst comes along, and diverts a schism to the plot. Hence for example a hero's journey.

In addition to the role of Ciri, Yennefer is a highlight because the transformation of her arc is one that can only be discussed through viewership. One thing that goes unnoticed is the environment, and scenery is a character in it's self.

In closing ,The Witcher is deep in narrative, and vibrant in plot. One thing to bear to in mind is that even though Geralt is a monster Hunter. His occupation of a Witcher can be expressed as a commentary on human nature , and realizing that the monsters maybe dark but the tongue of speech can be more sickening. Hence why the pen is mighter than the sword.

So continuing my journey at episode 3. I feel I'm ready for what this world unfolding before for my eyes throws at me I'm ready. So like Jasker The Bard said "Throw A Coin For your Witcher. A valley a plenty". The logos behind that lyric is that this show is small in detail but the further you look. You will notice a experience like no other.
