We’re only 2 episodes in but I’m really enjoying this new Miss Fisher series - Miss Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries (or MFMMM :D). I wasn’t sure about the whole idea at first and the early ads didn’t quite sell it to me but I have to say, it is great and deserves to stand in its own right. Oh, and the ‘Modern’ is relatively speaking. It’s set in Melbourne in the 60s and once again I get to play “Oooh! I know that place!” with this show. :D

Here are our private detective and police detective pair for this series:

On the right is the delightful Miss Peregrine Fisher, played by the equally delightful Geraldine Hakewell, who gets to wear a wonderful array of spectacular 60s clothes as she solves crime, as seen here with the very classic pink minidress she’s wearing. She’s Phryne’s niece and I know you’re all wondering how Phryne has a niece when her sister died as a child, well... we’ve all met her father, haven’t we? Are you really that surprised to find out that he cheated on his wife? 

On the left is Detective James Steed, played by Joel Jackson, and he does his best to live up to the Steed name. (Look up the British Avengers. :D) He’s apparently had a bit to do with Phryne in the past so though Peregrine drives him up the wall (in the best possible way), he’s somewhat used to unorthodox methods and though frequently exasperated, he’s willing to work with Peregrine. He’s also dealing with a very corrupt boss at work and said boss does not like our new Miss Fisher. (He didn’t like the old Miss Fisher much either. :D)

The main cast also features Catherine McClements as Birdie Birnside (psst, she rides motorcycles... you’ll love her), Toby Truslove as Birdie’s brother Samuel Birnside (who could give Q a run for his money), Louisa Mignone as Violetta Fellini (a scientist and all round intelligent woman) and Katie Robinson as Constable Connor, whose role will hopefully be expanded as the series goes on.

And what happened to Phryne, I hear you ask? Well, she and her plane crashed in Papua New Guinea. The plane has been found but not Phryne herself, either dead or alive. Only her gun was found. People are still searching and the Adventuress’ Club has certainly not given up on her but it doesn’t look good. I understand that what happened to Phryne will come back into things as the series goes on. (My guess is they’re going to continue to leave it a bit open-ended to allow for the possibility of Essie Davis maybe coming back in some way, even if it’s just as a guest when she’s available... and now I’m imaging Phryne and Peregrine teaming up. It’s a delightful mental image! :D)

So I made a point to finally start watching Wanted yesterday...

I just finished season 3...

I do not know why it has taken me so long to watch this show, especially since I’ve been a lowkey fan of Rebecca since I watched Mental when it came out, but I’m glad I watched it!
