Excerpts from a feature article on director Maria Friedman and "Merrily We Roll Along" at the New York Times, including:
In the beginning, everybody cried. A lot.
“I’d say the entire cast spent the first two weeks of rehearsals in tears, in tears, and they had no idea why,” said Maria Friedman, the director of the new, hotly anticipated revival of “Merrily We Roll Along.” That’s the Stephen Sondheim-George Furth musical from 1981, which opens on Dec. 12 at the New York Theater Workshop, and all but sold out its limited run the day tickets became available.
In a season plump with Sondheim revivals (“Into the Woods,” next year’s “Sweeney Todd”) and literature, this one carries an especially heavy cargo of expectation — the hope that its creator’s most notorious flop might finally be rehabilitated.
During previews, when I spoke to Radcliffe and the show’s other two stars — Jonathan Groff (“Spring Awakening,” “Hamilton”) and Lindsay Mendez (a Tony winner for “Carousel”) — on the phone, they said they were still having trouble staying dry-eyed in performance. “Now the thing that’s challenging,” Groff said, “now that we’ve kind of got the material where we can do it without weeping, is hearing the audience react to it.” Radcliffe and Groff agreed that Mendez was the strongest in that regard.
Mendez tried to explain the emotional toll of coming to terms with these characters: “I think that the love that these people have for each other, and all the near misses they have when they don’t say what they need to say, it’s just so heart-wrenching and difficult to experience. And with every day that passed we all just felt closer and closer. It just got really palpable.”
She [Friedman] has altered neither book nor lyrics. She has reframed it in the sense that it is now staged, subtly, as a memory play, told from the perspective of Groff’s 40-year-old Franklin.
ON A FRIDAY in mid-November, I watched Friedman applying that sensibility during the penultimate tech rehearsal for “Merrily.” With its endless repetition of words and movements, as lighting and scenery cues are readjusted again and again, a tech rehearsal is a soul-sapping process.
Yet a giddy, nigh ecstatic energy coursed through the room. There was a lot of hugging going on, in the aisles and on the stage, an activity Friedman said was not inappropriate to a show by Sondheim. “He loved a hug, loved a hug. Loved a laugh. He’d always hold my hands when we were walking. He was not this cold man that people think.”
Dressed like an animated Op Art display in a dizzying combination of oversized checks, Friedman issued directives — and laughed and cheered — to her 20-odd-strong cast through a microphone, her bright throaty voice illuminating the dark.
“Is Danny in the wings?” she asked. Radcliffe flew out of the shadows as if propelled by catapult. Groff was marking time by slowly twirling, again and again, with a seraphic smile.
She wanted them to “personalize” a dance move that has them jumping from one level to another; nothing could be generic. And when Frank tells his cohorts that their still-unfinished nightclub act is opening immediately, Friedman shouted out, “Jonathan, enjoy the chaos you’ve put into the room!”
A man ultimately consumed by the pursuit of success at the expense of his deepest friendships, Franklin has usually been regarded as the show’s biggest problem. Friedman doesn’t think of him that way and has imagined an elaborate back story. “I see him as floating, without an anchor, looking to please people, looking to make a mark in the world,” she said.
Casting the radiantly likable Groff, who “still has wonder all over him,” was essential, Friedman said, in keeping an audience on the character’s side. “I have rarely met a man so capable of joy and love — offstage,” she said. “He’s taught me to dare to be happy now and again. I’m not good at it.”
While rehearsing the cast in the show’s climactic anthem of hope, “Our Time,” Friedman paused to ask the actors when their characters were happiest, and to hold on to that memory during the song.

“Who the fuck does he think he is?” you furiously exclaim, walking the yard with Polly and Sophia.
“Woah! Woah! Watch the hostility! You could be thrown in SHU for just looking at these bastards wrong,” Polly warns, scanning the perimeter of the yard for all the security lookouts. Which, quite frankly, were never filled properly anyway with only 2-3 guards actually “present.”
“I usually wouldn’t say this, but she is right Y/N/N. They’ve been on edge these past months with Caputo being Warden and shit,” Sophia adds calmly, her clear-mindedness calming your fueling rage.
They knew why you were so pissed; they were truly the only people that understood you if you were being honest.
“Those fucking Hispanics are always doing anything to get off the hook for cheap,” you mutter, not quite mad at them if you were being honest with yourself.
“Yeah, yeah, but they’re not all that bad,” Polly states. “Come on, let’s get lunch before they let you starve.”
Walking beside the women, you walk through the many bland and boring rows of doors and white walls until you reach the clearing of the cafeteria. Stepping in line with Piper and Vause, you grab what’s left of the edible slob the state offers you. Begrudgingly, you sit down and dig in with small bites, not bothering to eat the so-called vegetables that stink.
The women engage in conversation in which you nod or smile or frown at, not all too concerned with the normal complaints anyway. Rather, your attention was drawn to the tall, brunette guard stationed at the exit of the cafeteria a few tables ahead of you.
He looks at you discreetly, smiling that damn smile once he officially caught your gaze. You couldn’t help the smile that crept onto yours at his blatant disregard for who else was watching - that was until the familiar Spaniard walks by Mendez, stopping to whisper in his ear.
You groan, face falling and causing you to look away in disgust. In truth, you were jealous. Jealous at the attention that no longer lasted more than a few seconds. Jealous at the way Mendez’s smile seems to increase tenfold when Daya gave him attention. Jealous at the fact that he was fucking her instead of you.
You never quite figured out when, why, or even how their affair started, but all you knew was that it was almost a daily activity in one of the janitor closets you refuse to pass by now.
If it wasn’t for his ego, or even his good looks, you wouldn’t be so hung up over him. If it weren’t for your lack of enjoyment in oral activity that you would indulge in other women just fine like Boo, Stella, Poussey, Morello, and the various other women usually do to ease their feminine desperation. Hell, you would do another officer. But they weren’t Mendez.
“If you keep staring laser beams into their heads, you might actually fry their brains,” Big Boo giggles, throwing her arm around your shoulder.
“If they even have any,” Nichols adds with a sly yet understanding smirk.
“Shit, I really don’t know why you even like the guy, Kid,” Boo questions, pulling you into her to let your head rest on her shoulder.
“It’s love!” Morello adds, her eyes almost bugging out of her head and getting all googly-eyed.
“It’s not love,” you protest.
“Oh God, don’t say he’s something different, Y/N/N.”
“They’re dogs Y/N/N, all the same breed too,” Vause comments, sharing a glance with Piper. “Why don’t you think I switched to women so quickly?”
The group shares a laugh, Boo nudging you and then letting you go to finish what’s left of whatever you were able to eat.
///
You made it your mental mission, over time, to act as if whatever was going on between Daya and Mendez didn’t faze you. You had a new idea in mind, actually. If Daya could take what she wanted, you were to do the same.
You were going to make him yours.
Walking down the corridor leading to the TV room, you could feel him before you even saw him. “To what do I owe the pleasure,” you state sarcastically.
“Just checking in, it’s been a while, Tiny.”
“Has it?”
Mendez stays quiet for a moment, falling into step with your much slower pace. “What’s up with you lately?”
“Not much, but it seems like you’ve been getting around. Isn’t that right Pornstache?” you side-eye him. He hates that nickname.
Your question seems to startle him, his body going rigid and pace faltering - but only for a second.
“No need hiding it, Bub, news spreads fast within this small prison. Besides, I guess we all have needs, even if you are a free citizen,” you smirk.
“That’s ironic,” he grunts, “Like you haven’t been getting action of your own?”
“What?” you stop in your tracks.
“Oh don’t give me that. I’ve seen you hanging with the dikes.”
You don’t need to look at him to hear the jealousy dripping from his voice, so you play coy. “I don’t kiss and tell.”
“Clearly,” he tsks again.
Giggling, you push him into the wall, careful as to not be in the line of visibility of both the cameras and the inmates. “If I say so myself,” you trace your index finger up his chest, “I would say you’re jealous they’re the ones keeping me company at night. You know, all you have to do is ask, Pornstache.”
He stifles a groan, the sensation coming out as a growl instead, rumbling in his chest. “I thought I told you not to call me that,” he stares down at you, trying to hide his growing lust.
He fails poorly, the indication of his attraction starting to harden beneath his tight trousers, forming a bulge.
Stepping between his legs, you prop your knee beneath him, leaning in to whisper in his ear. “What are you gonna do about it, Pornstache?”
Swiftly, Mendez snatches your bicep, yanking you down the hall briskly to meet the closet - their closet. Unlocking the door, he pries it open, throwing you in the moment he does.
Stumbling to find your footing, you grasp at the shelf before you, your back to the door. Taking the opportunity, Mendez closes the door and pins you down from behind. “I’ll tell you what I’m gonna do about it, Tiny.”
Spinning you around, he grabs your wrists with one of his hands, the other roughly grabbing at your hips. Lowering down to meet your height, his lips clasp yours in a heated make-out. Whimpering, you pull at his hands, begging to tangle yours in his short locks and deepen the kiss.
He doesn’t allow it, however, leaning in closer to you to make you feel his bulge on your thigh. “You see what you do to me?”
“You mean what all us women do to you.”
Smirking, Mendez pins one of his legs beneath you, his hand moving your hips to grind against him. “You’re cute when you’re jealous, ya know that?”
“I wouldn’t have to be if you weren’t so easily swayed.”
Groaning again, Mendez shuts you up with another kiss, releasing your hands to remove your shirt, delighted to find nothing but your bare breasts beneath. Biting his lip harshly, Mendez detaches himself from you, temporarily giving you the upper hand just enough to flip yourselves.
Now you stand before him, shoving him harshly into the shelves. Tugging at his belt, you unbuckle it with swift fingers, the tips almost feeling numb with desire.
Yanking down his trousers, you allow him to step out of them. Hand wrapping around his cock, the tip red and precum already oozing, you ask, “Tell me, Pornstache, does she suck you off? Does she let you have control? Does she let you cum?”
Inhaling sharply, his eyes close as his head rolls back. Grasping his jaw, you force his eyes to meet yours. “I asked you a question,” you order, thumb grazing everywhere around his sensitive slit.
“No.”
“No what, Mendez? I know you have the ability to speak; you’re rather loud when you want to be heard.”
“No, she doesn’t let me have my way.”
“Well, she just sounds boring, doesn’t she?”
“Mhmm.”
“What? I couldn’t hear you.”
“Yes!”
“Not so loud, we don’t want her hearing this,” you giggle.
Taking both hands, one massages its way on the tip, teasing and squeezing, while the other focuses on the base and fondling his balls. Within no time, you feel his body tensing and bucking up to meet your hands every so often. The veins poke and prod, his breath quickens, and when he’s just about to reach the brink, you let go of him.
“Ah. Ah. Ah.”
Whimpering, he looks down at you with blown pupils. Pushing him onto the small desk beside the shelves, you force him to sit on top of it. Following him, you remove his shirt as well as your pants and panties. Idly, you use his thighs for support, straddling his hips with your clit brushing the side of his cock.
“Tell me what you want, Big Boy. All you have to do is ask,” you smile mischievously.
“Please. Please fuck me.”
Slowly sliding your clit along his dick, you stare at him, “Nah, you’re gonna have to do better than that.”
“Please FUCK ME!” he almost yells.
In one swift movement, you raise your hips and surge downwards, taking his cock fully inside your wet pussy. Collectively, you both moan at the intensity, allowing yourself a moment to adjust.
Placing your hands on his shoulders, you allow him to place his hands on your hips and thighs for balance. Slowly, you start to bounce on his cock, careful as to not fall off of him.
He grows needy once again, the familiar sensation of bliss encouraging him to help grind your hips into him more harshly, taking the initiative to thrust into you from underneath. You start to feel the coil in your own core tighten as well, moaning into his neck, leaving bite marks and hickeys in your wake.
Once more, you both feel yourselves in need of release, but not yet. Stopping all movements, you slowly release yourself of his cock, a lewd pop making your cheeks burn.
Groaning in need, you see Mendez visibly grow tiresome of your games. Good, that’s what you wanted.
With frustration, Mendez gets back onto his feet, grabbing a fistful of your hair, tugging your head into his chest. You feel a delicious sting on your scalp, smiling with satisfaction. Roughly, Mendez bends you over the desk face down, plunging into your aching core once again.
He doesn’t bother to use the slow and torturous pace you’d done before, rather, pulling your hair back to arch your spine. The peculiar position targets your G-spot, making it hard for you to keep quiet.
With one hand latched onto your hair, the other squeezes at the back of your neck, Mendez’s hips thrusting at a dangerously fast and hard pace. The coil tightens once again, squeezing his cock as it endlessly pounds that special spot again and again and again.
Once more, you feel his dick harden in a painful solidity, veins rubbing your walls in just the right way. Breaths hard and fast, his thrusts get sloppy, signalling his upcoming release.
“Cum inside me, Mendez. Fill me to the brim.”
And that he does, letting go of your hair and neck to bruise your hips in a death-grip, thrusting one final time. Leaking his seed in sensational shots, your orgasm crashes into his own, milking his cock. He lets out a final moan like an animal, his cock softening as the last of his cum seeps into you.
Pulling out of you when you’re both satiated, he lets out a breath of relief. You stay leaning against the desk for a little while more, legs weak and wobbly. Mendez giggles at the sight, in which you finally get up and dressed with him.
“The answer is no by the way.”
“What was the question?”
“Nobody is as good as you are,” he smiles.
“Is that a compliment or are you just trying to make one-time-thing-conversation?”
“It’s a compliment. You’ve always been my favorite, Y/N.”
“Thanks?”
“I love you, Y/N. That’s what I’m trying to say.”
The room goes quiet, and you just blink at him. “Shit, Y/N, I-”
Your face breaks into a sly grin, pulling him into another kiss. “That’s all I needed to hear.”
Both of you laughing, you guys take your leave. Mendez leaves a few moments before you with a quick kiss and goodbye. Then, counting to 10, you walk out after him, his figure disappearing down the hall. Yet, as you turn to go the other way, you just barely catch sight of a shocked Daya propped against the wall.
Giddily, you give her a shit-eating grin. “Told you he was mine.”

Warnings - I'm pretty sure George Mendez is a warning in itself...
----
"Hey (Y/l/n) look at what I found." George grinned at the smaller woman as he approached her. "Mendez I gotta get to work, couldn't it wait?" (Y/n) sighed heavily, no particularly in the mood to deal with George right now. "Nah you're gonna love this." George grinned mischievously at her, showing her his phone when he reached her. "What am I looking-" (Y/n) sighed before cutting herself off as she realized what she was looking at. (Y/n) gasped wide eyed looking up at George, who chuckled darkly at her. "I must say I was pleasantly surprised to find this over the weekend." His smile widened as he looked to the picture on his phone. "I was happy to subscribe of course, but I must say. I'm a little disappointed you're content is so... Innocent." George licked his lips, casually scrolling through her pictures. "How did-" (Y/n) began, only to get cut off my George. "I know it was you?" He finished her question. "Well firstly that wonderful body of yours is quite recognizable, and I seen that cute little sparrow tattoo behind your ear in your latest picture set." George pointed to the tattoo, pleased with the look on (Y/n)'s face. "George you can't-" (Y/n) tried, only to get cut off again. "I can't what?" George loomed over her smaller form. "You can't tell anyone about this." (Y/n) breathed out nervously, silently scolding herself for the dampness building in her panties. "Please." She pleaded with him, shuttering when George pinned her against the wall with his body. "What'll I get in return?" He asked with a smile. "Are you seriously blackmailing me!?" (Y/n) hissed, trying to hide the face that she liked where this was going. "Oh please... I can see it in your eyes Princess, you like that I found your dirty little secret." He chuckled. "Well... What do you want?" (Y/n) licked her lips, glancing from his eyes to his lips. "I want exclusive content." George winked down at her. "Exclusive content?" (Y/n) repeated his request. "I want more than just pictures of you in lingerie, and those beautiful tits of yours, I wanna see what you got hiding behind those panties of yours. I wanna watch you play with yourself, I wanna hear you moaning and panting. I wanna see your pretty face as you cum, whimpering my name." George licked his lips, picturing it in his mind. "And I wanna be the only one gettin 'em." He leaned down so their faces were merely inches apart. "Yeah?" (Y/n) whispered softly, her body tingling with want. "Yeah." George's smile widened. "Alright... It's a deal." (Y/n) grinned as wide as George, grasping onto George's biceps. "But if you ever want a live show, just let me know." (Y/n) winked at him, before slipping out of his grasp. "Christ (Y/l/n) you'll be the death of me." George murmured to himself as she sauntered off down the hall.

People: draw Wilbur being stabbed by Philza
Me: takes that personally AKA I decided to draw every single canon accurately.
Some explanations down below.
The first ever death was Tubbo killed by a sword by Sapnap. Followed by Tommy's who died escaping Dream (that's what we call foreshadowing). Then Wilbur who died by Punz's sword. Finally it's Fundy who died because of George, which I think it's the most interesting death of the bunch because he was invisible and was the only one to actually see how everyone got murder. George only noticed him because he was wearing leggings which don't go invisible, if it wasn't for that he could have lived. In the same day Tommy duel Dream and died to an arrow to the chest while he was trying to come out of the water. These were all in a single day... Fun!
After that, the next death was in the election day where Wilbur and Tommy were hunted down, but only Wilbur died to an arrow thanks to Punz. But allow me to rant about this because it's just incredible. Wilbur first was shot by George immediately after Schlatt's decree (mind you he was in the podium with Schlatt), and lost a lot of health as it had a fire aspect. Then he and Tommy drank invisibility potions, and were gunning towards the sewer system, but before they could arrive to the entrance they went through the lake in L'Manberg. That slowed down, but no problem right? They were protected with invisibility, between a water gazebo and a tree. WELL NO, Wilbur was shot anyway, even with Tommy behind him. Wilbur was protected by 3 sides and Punz still snipe him.
After that was Tubbo's second death by execution, which is the most accurately drawn. Then, in less than a week Schlatt died to an arrow shot by Quackity which not enough people talk about. Also Quackity didn't even aimed, so that was cool to notice.
Then there's the Manberg-Pogtopia war. Schlatt famously died of a heart attack (and I think about it a lot, thanks Toby). Then, surprisingly Jack! Yeah, people forget that happened, he was killed by Wilbur in a rage, Jack didn't do anything, he was just there and he got killed. Rip. Then there's Wilbur's death, which he wasn't stab by Philza but slashed twice. And before you complain, that's what happened in canon, Philza said that's what happened to Fundy.
Another death that people don't talk about: Karl's. He died by hitting the ground too hard, as Quackity planted a bomb on the ground to frame Eret. Note this is like the second time Quackity (canonically) killed one of his fiances.
Jack'e most famous death burning to death thanks to Tommy. No explanation, just poor Jack, man.
Then there's Mexican Dream AND BOI, HE'S SPEED RUN HIS LIVES. The first one was to a zombie while protecting Mamacita and Tommy (this is the only instance of someone dying to a mob). The second one was being shot by Dream while jumping in front of a photo (because he didn't want Dream to destroy it). Finally was a duel against Dream because he just behind fucked up and showed just the head of Juan Mendez saying this will happen to him (I think). So yeah, by this point Dream has killed like 4 people, kinda fucked up.
The next death was Quackity which is actually more accurate than I thought as the pickaxe went down towards his teeth, and destroying the correct eye.
The next life was during Doomsday actually! Jack died while fighting Technoblade. Which I found so interesting just for the fact that all the "children" in SBI (Tommy, Will and Techno) took one of his lives. I call it here, Philza kills Jack next... Well he probably won't, but imagine.
Then there's Dream, oh Dream, this dude died twice by Tommy. He was actually killed by his own weapons, the first was an axe, as it went through his shoulder, and then later by his sword through his head (by all means that scar should be early close to Quackity or, at the very least, cut his mask).
Months later, Tommy died to Dream, who many people take a lot of creative liberties with. More than any other death, fans draw whatever it’s the most dramatic or fitting, but he was punched and he did hit a wall, but running away from Dream and not looking at him (similar to his first death).
Then there’s Ponk, which most people forget because more people focus on how he lost an arm... even though they were both taken by Sam. After he stole the keys to the prison, he threatened to kill Niki and HBomb (as they wanted to protect Ponk), but he appeared and ran away, but got killed anyway by a single swing to the back.
Next is another less known one Connor’s death was caused by Ranboo of all people as he and Foolish were pursuing him as he stole a beacon from them. So yeah, Connor was killed by the two most pacifist people on the server, and nobody talks about it.
Next is Skeppy which a lot of people remember, he was punched and pushed into lava by BadBoyHalo. What I found interesting is that we actually don’t know yet it Skeppy AND BBH lost a life, as their lives are connected, or was only Skeppy. This confusion is caused by some word choices and vague description as to how their soul-mates status work.
Next it’s Foolish and Antfrost in the Red Banquet. Foolish died as Antfrost cut his head, but the sword wasn’t strong enough as it still took to swings to do it, and he was at peace with it as long as others didn’t suffer. Antfrost was literally cornered by Puffy and killed for revenge. He was telling her to stop, but more interestingly was Puffy’s words to Ant “You take my kindness for weakness Antfrost.” Which I just find interesting and ironic considering that this is what Ant last heard before being murdered by her.
Finally there’s poor Ghostbur, which it’s interesting because we don’t see how he dies. We just see Dream pulling something, and Ghostbur dying by his hand. We don’t know if he just bonk him in the head with the book or just used it and that killed Ghostbur. We don’t even see what Dream pulls into his hand, we just assume it’s the book.
PS: I didn’t include Schlatt’s debated death because we assume it’s in the festival, but we are not 100% sure. For all we know he could have enter the SMP with two lives like Connor did.
Bonus, the list of the people who have taken canon lives and how many:
Dream: 6
Techno: 3
Quackity: 2
Tommy: 2
Punz: 2
Phil
Wilbur
Puffy
BBH
Ant
Sam
Ranboo
George

This was just something I thought of for fun, but I thought of writing this fan cast of different TMNT characters. This isn't for any particular project or anything, but it's kinda fun to imagine what/who you'd want to hear as a certain character. Without further Ado, here's my fan cast list:
Zeno Robinson as Leonardo
Aleks Le as Donatello

Jessie James Grelle as Michelangelo
J. Michael Tatum as Splinter
Brina Palencia as April O'Neil
Todd Haberkorn as Casey Jones

Patrick Seitz as Tiger Claw
Grey Griffin-DeLisle as Shinigami
Colleen Clinkenbeard as Alopex
Luci Christian as Lita
Tara Strong as Irma
Trina Nishimura as Jennika

Casting Manga-Only Promised Neverland Characters
I finally finished reading The Promised Neverland manga and now COMPLETELY understand everyone’s anger with Season 2. There was so much wasted potential for an amazing continuation of the anime, and it’s a real shame that we weren’t able to see so many characters get animated.
So, here’s the real life English voices that I assigned to characters while I was reading (yes, I pretty much cast the characters in my head).
YUGO = Eric Vale
Other prominent roles include Solf J. Kimblee (Fullmetal Alchemist), Tomura Shigaraki (My Hero Academia), Sanji (One Piece), and Yuki Sohma (Fruits Basket)
LUCAS = Grant George
Other prominent roles include Lancer (Fate/Zero) and Ryo Shimazaki (Mob Psycho 100)
OLIVER = Erik Kimerer
Other prominent roles include Teruki Hanazawa (Mob Psycho 100), Alibaba Saluja (Magi), and Ryuji Takasu (Toradora)
VIOLET = Maxey Whitehead
Other prominent roles include Alphonse Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) and Crona (Soul Eater).
ZACK = Zeno Robinson
Other prominent roles include Hawks (My Hero Academia), Cyborg (Young Justice), and Toru Ishikawa (Horimiya).
PEPE = Gabe Kunda
Other prominent roles include Rock Lock (My Hero Academia) and Shin Yasuda (Horimiya)
SANDY = Todd Haberkorn
Other prominent roles include Natsu Dragneel (Fairy Tail), Ling Yao (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood), Death the Kid (Soul Eater), and Hikaru Hitachiin (Ouran Highschool Host Club)
GILLIAN = Mela Lee
Other prominent roles include Rin Tohsaka (Fate stay/night: UBW) and Erika Karisawa (Durarara!!)
NIGEL = Max Mittleman
Other prominent roles include Ritsu Kageyama (Mob Pyshco 100), Kousei Arima (Your Lie in April), and Ryuji Sakamoto (Persona 5)
PAULA = Elizabeth Maxwell
Other prominent roles include Ymir (Attack on Titan), Arisa Uotani (Fruits Basket 2019), and Midnight (My Hero Academia)
SONYA = Erica Lindbeck
Other prominent roles include Kaori Miyazono (Your Lie in April), Naruko Anjo (Anohana), and Heris Ardebit (Promare).
HAYATO = Aleks Lee
Other prominent roles include Zenitsu Agatsuma (Demon Slayer) and Kazuya Kinoshita (Rent-a-Girlfriend)
QUEEN LAGRAVALIMA = Colleen Clinkenbeard
Other prominent roles include Riza Hawkeye (Fullmetal Alchemist), Erza Scarlet (Fairy Tail), and Akito Sohma (Fruits Basket 2019)
EXTRA CASTING
I don’t know if the anime would have switched voice actors for Emma, Ray and Norman when they got older and went through puberty. Still after the timeskip after Goldy Pond, I imagined all of them with older voices, so here:
EMMA = Caitlin Glass (OR keep Erica Mendez)
Glass’s other roles include Winry Rockbell (Fullmetal Alchemist), Mina Ashido (My Hero Academia), and Petra Ral (Attack on Titan)
RAY = Clifford Chapin
Other roles include Katsuki Bakugo (My Hero Academia), Connie Springer (Attack on Titan) and Akiteru Tsukishima (Haikyu!!)
NORMAN = Josh Grelle
Other roles include Armin Arlert (Attack on Titan), Yuri Katsuki (Yuri on Ice), and Zen Wisteria (Snow White with the Red Hair)

OITNB Headcanons part 1
I did this for a couple other TV shows I watch. I am also going to write a fanfic about some of these.
Maritza Ramos:
Maritza made it to Colombia safely. Her cousin picked her up and told her her mom called and asked to look out for her.
Maritza’s cousin lives in Palmira, which is where Diane Guerroro’s family is from
Since Gloria told her her mom ran from a terrible situation, Maritza had it in her head that Palmira is extremely provincial and dangerous.
Once she stepped off the plane, Maritza (and the rest of the deportees) broke out into a sweat and nearly fainted from heat exhaustion. Maritza tore off the sleeves of her sweatshirt to make a more weather-appropriate wear. The other women followed her example.
She was surprised when her cousin greeted her at the airport. Her cousin was excited to have her.
Maritza’s cousin was excitable and talkative. She rambled on and on about how much Colombia has changed. Maritza was almost too depressed and moody to listen.
Once they got to town, Maritza was surprised to find that Palmira is just like any other city. Things have indeed changed since...well, since she was born.
She had a Kenai-style epiphany (Kenai from Brother Bear. Look up the song “Welcome” from that movie. That’s how I imagine Maritza’s Colombian experience) about Colombia. She came to love living there.
She wrote letters to Flaca, Aleida, Gloria, and Blanca once she tracked her down to Honduras.
Her mom kept trying to call her, but Maritza was still too angry with her.
Maritza started another DIY beauty and style vlog dubbed in both Spanish and English called Maritza Chic.
Maritza became successful and started her own beauty and style guru company.
She wrote letters to her daughter every week but didn’t send them.
10 years after being deported, Maritza returned to the US, and her first stop was to see her daughter, who thinks Maritza abandoned her. She gives Julianna all of her letters and explains the situation she was in. Julianna eventually forgives her.
Maritza reunites with Flaca, who she’s been communicating with for the last decade.
Maritza couldn’t resist rubbing it in her mom’s face that it was in Colombia, the country Maria Ramos hated so much and not America, that Maritza became successful and happy.
Maritza regained custody of Julianna and moved her to Colombia. Maritza also eventually got married and had a couple more kids in Colombia.
Marisol “Flaca” Gonzalez:
Flaca was released from prison shortly after getting her first letter from Maritza.
She became one of the first recipients of the Poussey Washington Fund
Her mother was cured of her Lymphoma so Flaca was able to move in with her upon her release.
She went to school for cosmetology and fashion
She eventually started her own fashion and beauty company, DIY Fly Flaca.
Aleida Diaz:
She very nearly killed Daya before CO Young pulled her off. Daya ended up with severe brain damage and had to be put on life support. Her visitation and phone privileges were revoked for one year after that.
Beth the Baby Killer tried to bond with Aleida over killing their children, but Aleida made it clear that they were two very different situations.
Once she got her phone privileges back, she called her kids to check up on them. None of them will talk to her after what she did to Daya and none of them forgive her.
Gloria Mendoza:
Upon her release, she checked up on Daya’s baby, who is being cared for by Mendez. She was surprised to see how much George has changed for the better.
Decided to swear off men, since she had a lot of bad luck with them.
Cesar Velazquez:
He ran into Bennett in New York City. He made good on his promise to Daya, kidnapped him and raped and tortured him until he was a bleeding mess on the ground. He was arrested and tried for attempted murder.
He asked Emiliano to be a character witness. A mistake on Cesar’s part. Emiliano told the judge Cesar is a terrible person who put a gun to his head when he wouldn’t eat soggy french fries. Cesar freaked out and started verbally, then physically attacking Emiliano, and promptly getting arrested and sent to prison again. It took a long time for Eva and Lucy to forgive him for sending their father to prison again.
Blanca Flores:
She and Diablo settled in Southern Honduras. They eventually have two miracle babies.

Movies 2020
Movies I watched in 2020. Updated soon after I watched them.
A Ghost Story [David Lowery, 2017, United States] No film has made me feel this melancholic ever. This is a film so profound, it examines existence in the simplest yet most esoteric way possible. It surely goes straight to the top of my all-time favourite list. 10/10
Portrait of a lady on fire [Celine Sciamma, 2019, France] Mesmerizing. It burns even before the fire and ends with unforgettable embers. a film of magnificent visuals, intoxicating sound design, and a screenplay of jawdropping surprises -- definitely on top of my list.
Parasite [Bong Joon-ho, 2019, South Korea] You can watch it in many different ways, perspective, and angle, and everything is just as clever. 10/10
John Denver Trending [Arden Rod Condez, 2019, Philippines] Aside from its central theme of mental health awareness, it also has an excellent juxtaposition of the culture of bullying and cyberbullying and its correlation with how the nature of superstitions and religions shapes a country’s humanity. 10/10
Knives Out [Rian Johnson, 2019, United States] a funny and thrilling tour de force, engrossing in its nicely calibrated tone. 9.5/10
Bliss [Jerrold Tarog, 2017, Philippines] touches the fine line between dreamland and reality, and examines dreams or aspirations as mere illusions. It is wicked. It’s well-crafted. It’s a mindfuck. It’s deeply, as in deeply affecting 10/10
Edward [Thop Nazareno, 2019, Philippines] I am so amazed at how this film shows struggles after struggles after struggles without spoonfeeding emotions. It’s a movie so simple yet so despairing. Everything of it is in the right place, it’s sublime. 10/10
The Invisible Man [Leigh Whannell, 2020, United States] a psychological thriller that metaphorically captures gaslighting, flawless and atypical. 9/10
1917 [Sam Mendez, 2020, United States] An ambitious and unnerving first-person perspective ride. 9/10
Eerie [Mikhail Red, 2018, Philippines] More than its excellent scare tactics, what I love about it most is its clever storytelling and use of metaphors. 9/10
Corpus Christi [Jan Komasa, 2020, Poland] A look into redemption, a faith that challenges, a miraculous portrayal of a mysterious preacher. 9/10
Ad Astra [James Gray, 2019, United States] Realistically seamless, perfectly portrayed claustrophobic film. 9/10
Tallulah [Sian Heder, 2016, United States] A small town film of great insights and intricate nuanced details. 8/10
Les Miserables [Ladj Ly, 2020, France] a contemporary portrait of the 1862 classic--immersive, passionate, and thoroughly engrossing. 8/10
Cities of Last Things [Wi Ding Ho, 2018, Hong Kong] Of visual metaphors and broken connections, this film as a lot of food for the soul to offer. 7.5/10
I'm Drunk I love you [JP Habac, 2017. Philippines] Makes you feel so much. Something too relatable, it’s terrific. If only for its music scoring, it’s already worth the watch. 7/10
18 Regali (18 Presents) [Francesco Amato, 2020, Italy] Such a tearjerker for something so flawed. 7/10
The Half of It [Alice Wu, 2020, United States] Refreshingly new take on love of different forms. Warm and soothing. 7/10
Booksmart [Olivia Wilde, 2019, United States] While it is smartly written, it is also really hilarious. Fun yet empowered, who says you can't do both? 7/10
Lost Girls [Liz Garbus, 2020, United States] Brings about melancholy, anger, compassion and all things human. Very well acted too. 7/10
A Sun [Chung Mong-hong, 2019, Taiwan] captures economic, social and personal struggles in such a relatable tone. 7/10
El Hoyo (The Platform) [Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, 2020, Spain] A social commentary on how society can rise up by working together, told in such wicked imagination. 7/10
Spiderman:Far From Home [Jon Watts, 2019, United States] Sets the tone higher of this new chapter of the franchise, it is entertaining and affecting, although far from perfect. 7/10
The Decline [Patrice Laliberte, 2020, Canada] Chilling and fun. Isn’t that the goal? 7/10
Joker [Todd Phillips, 2019, United States] Joaquin Phoenix owned it, no matter how faulty and flawed the movie is. 7/10
Iska [Theodore Boborol, 2019, Philippines] I find a lot of things problematic and some choices uncharacteristic but it is worth a watch. 7/10
Iisa [Chuck Gutierrez, 2015, Philippines] Visually stunning, questionable storyline. 7/10
Uncorked [Prentice Penny, 2020, United States] It makes me want to drink wine, more wine, and much much more wine. 7/10
Cuddle Weather [Rod Marmol, 2019, Philippines] Unconventional and intricate, something real and intimate. 7/10
Hogar (The Occupant) [Alex and David Pastor, 2020, Spain] Appalling and annoying, at least it is good at that. 6.5/10
Extraction [Sam Hargrave, 2020, United States] Action-packed film that doesn’t offer much of a motive for a suicide mission. 6.5/10
Yeh Ballet [Sooni Taraporevala, 2020, India] Quite an unconventional ballet movie starring two men of great potential. 6.5/10
Snapshots [Melanie Mayron, 2018, United States] I want to like it, I do. But it's too artificial for my taste. 6.510
LSS [Jade Castro, 2019, Philippines] Nothing special to be honest. 6.5/10
Alimuom [Keith Sicat, 2018, Philippines] For all its creativity and ambitious computer graphics work, it lacks human connection. 6.5/10
93 Days [Steve Gukas, 2016, Nigeria] Beautiful intention, badly acted. 6/10
Joshua [George Ratliff, 2007, United States] It was fine. Nothing special but it was fine. 6/10
Shift [Siege Ledesma, 2013, Philippines] Not your typical love story. 6/10
Maska [Neeraj Udwani, 2020, India] Annoying yet enjoyable at the same time, I don’t understand how it’s possible. 6/10
Unbelievable
Block Z [Mikhail Red, 2020, Philippines] Disappointing plot, infuriating characters. A downcast. 6/10
1898: Our Last Men in the Philippines [Salvador Calvo, 2017, Spain] Interesting perspective and atypical take on nationalism. Worth a watch for history lovers. 6/10
The Foreigner [Martin Campbell, 2018, United States] For a Jackie Chan movie, it’s a pretty boring one. 6/10
Paris is Us [Elisabeth Vogler, 2019, France] Slogs away into a plotless little chaos. 4/10

George Alan Fogelman, Class of 1963
Music fans, fellow Jews lay George Fogelman to rest
Fellow Jews and fellow musicians joined forces on Wednesday, Nov. 27, to pay last tribute to George Alan Fogelman, 72, who died of cancer on Nov. 22 while under hospice care, leaving his wife Gail, two children, three grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many friends.
Rabbis Joshua Dorsch and Leonard Rosenthal of Tifereth Israel Synagogue presided over the burial service at El Camino Cemetery, where mourners were greeted by recorded strains of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “Wonderful World.” Rabbi Rosenthal opened the service by quoting from Don McLean’s “American Pie”: “A long long time ago/ I can still remember how/ That music used to make me smile/ And I knew if I had the chance/ That I could make those people dance/ And maybe they’d be happy for a while….”
Explained Rosenthal: “There are few people I know whose very lives and essence are so deeply bound with music. George lived and breathed music, whether he was performing, composing, creating, or simply walking around his house humming. George loved to entertain, and he considered bringing smiles and joy to his audience his greatest achievement.”
In 2006, a San Diego Jewish World/ jewishsightseeing.com story about Fogelman reported:
As a high school student, Fogelman played saxophone and accordion for “The Twilighters,” a band inspired by one of the Platters’ best-known hits, “Twilight Time.” The Twilighters performed at service clubs, graduation parties and bar/ bat mitzvah receptions. While a student at San Diego State University, Fogelman performed in a Sergio Mendez-inspired band called “Sounds of ’68.” Another band that played for San Diego’s well-known stage hypnotist, Dr. Michael Dean, “was getting ready to retire, and we auditioned and got the job… It was 5-6 nights a week, first at the Catamaran Hotel, and then at the Gaslight Room on Rosecrans Street. So I was his musical director.”
During that period, Fogelman also opened a recording studio, which produced approximately 250 jingles for radio and television commercials, “probably none that you would know,” although some for KMart and DHL Express made it to regional broadcast.
On the Michael Dean show, Fogelman had the opportunity to work with guest artists, among them Cheech and Chong, who were just starting, and singer Roberta Lynn. Additionally, “at one point we got hooked up with KPRI, a rock station, and they had a Friday studio concert and they would come in and record. We had Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show, and Al Kooper came in.”
Fogelman wanted to move from control booth to microphone, so he formed a new band, “Peace on Earth” with Jeff Dalrymple, percussion; Doug Kvandal, keyboard, and Dave Maynard, vocalist, hoping their musical careers would take off. “We were trying to be a band without a guitar but alas and alack we had to have a guitarist.” Maynard became one, and later, they added guitarist Rafe Lindenberg, “who was very good.” At one point, the band felt certain it was headed for a recording contract and national exposure, but “it didn’t work out.”
Disappointed, Fogelman returned to San Diego and earned a teaching credential so he could substitute teach during the inevitable down times in the music business. One day while running errands with his mother, he stopped by a Home Federal Savings & Loan branch to open a Keogh account. Normally Gail Schindler, who handled his account that day, worked at a different bank branch, so perhaps their meeting was beshert. They were married in 1976, and for Fogelman, it was instant fatherhood—daughter Juliana was a child of Gail’s previous marriage. Within a few years, a second daughter, Arianna, arrived. The preschool that Ari attended at the old Jewish Community Center on 54th Street changed the direction of Fogelman’s career.
A product of both Tifereth Israel Synagogue and Temple Emanu-El, respectively under Rabbi Monroe Levens and Rabbi Morton Cohn, Fogelman enjoyed Jewish music. With singer Myrna Cohen, he produced a 33 1/3 RPM album, “Special Days For Children” to raise money for the JCC pre-school. Later, he and Cohen, who is today the cantorial soloist at Temple Emanu-El, collaborated on such other tapes (and later CDs) as “Lullabies and Quiet Time,” and “Swinging Chai.”
After he married Gail, they and their children Juli and Ari used to sing on recordings made by Fogelman’s company Jewish Family Recordings. “Around the same time Randee Friedman formed Soundswrite Productions, which ended up distributing Fogelman’s work,” Rosenthal related. “In turn, George did a lot of music recording and production for Randee, including Debbie Friedman’s early albums. Randee told George that he was an absolute gem to work with and real mensch in business dealings.”
Fogelman later in life performed with his friends at the Amigo Spot at Hotel Circle in San Diego. “He was in his element singing and playing saxophone and wind board,” said Rosenthal. “I saw him there several times and I could see that he loved what he was doing and was loved by the patrons, many of whom were regulars.”
A perpetual optimist, Fogelman was a “glass half full” type of fellow, whose spirit was typified by one of his favorite songs “Pure Imagination” from Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The lyrics say, in part: “If you want to view paradise/ Simply look around and view it. Anything you want to, do it./ Wanta change the world?/ there’s nothing/ to it/ There is no/ Life I know/ To compare with/ Pure imagination/ Living there/ You’ll be free/ If you truly wish to be./”
Fogelman regularly performed at Tifereth Israel Synagogue in the Shir Hadash band, which on the third Friday evening of every month leads an upbeat version of the Kabbalat Shabbat service. Besides Fogelman’s saxophone, the ban included two vocalists, and other musicians on piano, guitar, bass guitar, and clarinet.
For many years Fogelman had battled prostate cancer with such medical treatments as chemo-therapy, radiation, and any other therapies available. Ever an optimist, he even believed while in hospice that he would beat the cancer.
“The tag line in ‘American Pie’ is ‘the day the music died,’” Rabbi Rosenthal noted. “Although George is no longer with us, the music he created is, both in the books and recordings he produced, and in our hears and our memories. George would not have wanted the music to end with him. He would have wanted us to continue living, laughing and singing.”
George's headstone is now in place at El Camino Mortuary
Following the graveside service, Fogelman’s friends and fans reconvened at the Amigo Spot. *Reposted article from San Diego Jewish World by Donald H. Harrison of November 30, 2017.

What Happens in prison stays in prison - George Mendez x OC
Chapter 3 - Every couple has little fights
Warnings: Profanity 🤫
The next day, I was basically running out of the bathroom to try and get away from the ridiculous name-calling between Pennsatucky and Leanne. Not even looking up while I run, I feel myself bump into a large solid figure. At first, I figured it was another inmate, because they didn't say anything at first, and then I heard it.
"What the fuck is wrong with you, Davis?!" He looks down at me with fury. "You are not meant to run. Full stop. THAT IS A SHOT!" Getting angry with the way he has been acting lately I snap, I know I am not meant to yell at a C.O, but I couldn't control it, the word vomit.
"What the fuck is your problem lately? What is with you?! One minute you are nice to me, smiling, treating me differently from everyone else. And then out of nowhere you're acting like a dick!" I could hear the girls around us gasping as they walk past, his eyes widened. Shit. I really screwed up this time, SHU here I come.
He looked down at me, then he looked around at the other inmates, his shoes, then back at me, sighing he just said, "You better watch it inmate. Watch your mouth. Remember Ill be dropping off laundry later, you better fucking be there." He then walked away, it was very strange, watching him walk away like that, no shot, no being sent to SHU, nothing. I actually felt a little bad, I seemed to have hurt him. Again.
"Get out my fucking way, you fucking junky!" He screamed at one of the heroin addicts.
Later at lunch I noticed he wasn't there. This is probably normal, it might not be about me. Maybe he is on a different shift, or maybe he went to go fetch his laundry that he keeps on reminding me about. I wasn't focused, and Red could tell, she knew something was up, she might even suspect its because Mendez wasn't in the cafeteria like he always is. Or maybe I am just overthinking everything.
"Hey Davis, why you looking so mopey? Is it because your boyfriend isn't here to watch you eat?" Nichols snapped me out of my train of thought, to which I replied with a deadly glare, to which Red gave me a glare back.
Nichols gave out a small laugh, "Please don't tell me this is true Lizzy." The Russian accent cut the silent glares, "No, its not true Red. They are just making a joke. I promise nothing is happening between me and Pornstache."
"Good because if there is, you know what will happen."
"I know, I know, Red." I did know, Ill be out of the family, I wont be protected anymore.
I started looking down at my food. "No, shes telling the truth. I saw them this morning yelling at each other." Chapman cut in. "Every couple has little fights." Red annoyingly replies, I reply with a sigh, showing how annoyed I was now.
Vause notices this, and comes to my defense, "Give her a break Red. Nothing is happening. Besides, there are more important things to worry about. Like, I don't know, being in prison?" At least I can count on Vause to save my ass against Red.
It was about 4 in the afternoon, and I still hadn't seen the mustached guard anywhere since this morning, I must have really pissed him off. Even while I was waiting in line for the phones I noticed he wasn't standing talking to Bennett, making his dirty comments about the inmates like he usually does, thinking he is entertaining the one-legged C.O.
Yes, I do know about the leg, needless to say I heard the Hispanic girls whispering about Dayanara and her little love affair, and it was quite obvious that they were talking about Bennett. Most of the prison knows about those two by now anyway, with the exception of basically all the staff, even Bennett isn't aware of the inmates knowing.
It was finally my turn to get to the phone, I better call my mom, I haven't spoken to her in a while, and she is bound to be in a state.
Picking up the phone, I dial my mothers number, she sounded frantic over the fact that I haven't called her in a while, but then she could sense that something was wrong.
"Elizabeth? What is the matter? Did something happen?" I could hear the genuine worry in her voice, which created a lump in my throat, I've been here for 3 months and I still miss like crazy.
"Nothing really happened, mom. Its just, there is this guard, who often is quite friendly towards me and - "
"What did he do? Did he rape you? I saw something on the news about a guard that took advantage and raped a young girl at a prison in California. And I swear- "The way she said rape made me cringe.
"Mom, mom, no, no, he didn't do anything. And you should really stop watching the news, it worries you too much. I just wanted to say that hes being friendly, and it just makes me feel guilty with the other girls because he isn't so nice to them." I quickly changed what I was going to tell her, in fear that other C.Os are listening and more importantly that she'll worry more.
"Oh sweetie, you worried me, that's not too bad. It'll get better, besides you've always had that effect on people, don't worry too much. " The conversation carried on for a few more minutes until I realized the time.
"Okay mom thanks, I have to go, its almost my shift, speak to you soon." And with a goodbye from her side, I hang up and make my way to laundry.
To be continued...
