Yuta is my fav man so to me, he’s the absolute best husband!

He would be completely obsessed with you. Like you didn’t think it was possible for him to become more obsessed with you, but ever since you two got married he's been on a whole different level. A lot like his love for Mark but intensified because you're his wife.

But Yuta can also come off as hard to read sometimes, not always making his emotions known. So I think Yuta would find comfort in the fact that even though he’s not showering you with love at the moment, you still know just how in love with you he is!

He’s also possessive but not in a (super) toxic way just in a “that’s my wife” kinda way. Which is one way he shows his love for you. like nothing makes him more proud to be your husband than when other guys are clearly looking at you, but he’s the only guy you’re concerned with! and you know exactly when it’s happening because of the little smirk he gets on his face.

Also this man is obsessed with blowing kisses for some reason and it’s the cutest thing in the world! So he would be constantly blowing you kisses especially over FaceTime when he can’t actually kiss you. (or he would send you a quick video if you can’t pick up)

I think one of the most precious things about him is that, when he likes someone, he makes sure that they know how special they are to him. like the way that he would genuinely make you feel like the most beautiful woman that's ever walked this earth! Compliments from him would leave you blushing and replaying his words over and over in your head all day! but as soon as you tell him how handsome he is, he’ll get so shy and cute about it 🥹

One thing that he’s going to make sure of is that his baby is happy!! He literally cannot stop himself from spoiling you and showering you with love 🥺🥺

You hated the fact that one wrong thing could happen, and your whole mood would be ruined for the day. You had gotten into a disagreement with a friend today over dinner and you couldn't stop thinking about it. It wasn't even that big of a deal, it was just annoying that they couldn't see your side of the argument. Yuta could tell that your mood was sour as soon as you got home, plopping down on the couch without even changing into sweats like you usually did. "You're back home early." He says, wrapping his arm around you, letting you lean into him. You hum in response and he knows that you don't really want to talk about what’s put you in a bad mood. Since he doesn’t know what’s bothering you, he quickly searches his mind for ways to make you feel a little better. He sits there with you for a good minute, stroking your hair to comfort you, when he thinks of the new cookies you had bought but haven't tried yet. "Hey, did you want to try those new cookies you got from the store?" He smiled to himself when you perked up slightly at the thought of a sweet treat. "Yeah, I forgot about those." You two walk into the kitchen, Yuta instinctively putting water in the kettle for some tea as you get the cookies out. "Their coffee flavored right?" "hmm…?" You inspect the packaging until you spot the description of the cookies. "Yeah, they’re mocha flavored." You point at the packet showing Yuta as he leans down to get a closer look but then he surprises you by giving you a quick kiss on the cheek instead. You give him a playful smile as he gets two mugs from the cabinet. Once the tea is poured, you both try the cookies which turn out to be amazing. You both express your delight by nodding your head at each other because your mouths are full. As you enjoy your treat, you find yourself talking all about your disagreement with your friend. It's nice to talk to your husband because he's such a good listener, but reliving the conversation made your mood go right back to annoyed. Yuta actually gives you some good advice once you finished telling him the whole story, which he could tell made you feel better, but he still wasn't going to be satisfied until he saw your pretty smile that he loves so much. "Hey, stay here." He says, as he leaves the kitchen. You wait there until he returns, phone in hand and looking something up. You're confused for a good minute until you hear him playing one of your favorite songs. He grabs your hands, and you know he wants you to dance with him. You follow his lead as you sway with him to the song. He can see a smile creep onto your face as he presses more into you. You bury your head into his neck and stay just like that for a while until Yuta gets an idea. He pulls you two apart gently so he can spin you in a circle, which causes you to laugh because the song that's playing does not warrant him to be spinning you around like this at all. Yuta flashes you a proud smile, beaming at the fact that he made you laugh. "Now spin me around." You shake your head at him, but comply with his wishes, spinning him around not once, not twice, but three times until he’s satisfied. The song ends and you wrap your arms around his neck and give him a big kiss for being so adorable. "Have you always been this cute?" "Only when my sweet wife needs to get out of a bad mood." He says, wrapping his arms around your waist and kissing you back.

(Released) My all time favourite is The Fernweh Saga by @lacunafiction - it's just genuinely so good and it always gives me the vibes of one of those shows you watch after dinner, that becomes part of your routine and you want to see desperately what happens after, and the characters become part of your memories, almost like people. It's just UGH such a good IF. If you like nostalgic hometown horrors, this IF is for you.

(Released) Very close favourite is Blood Moon by @barbwritesstuff - WEREWOLVES GUYS!! I've replayed this game so many times. It's one of those games that after you finish, no matter how long of a break you take from it, you always return to it. I love the "found family" of this game, even though it's not really found, it's just... family. I miss them! The romance in this story is also written so beautifully.

(Released) Another fav is The Golden Rose by @anathemafiction - it was one of my favs while it was still in WIP and after it's released I took so long to play it cause I never wanted to finish it. Like, I grew so attached to its story that I didn't want to let it go. 😭 Very well written characters and the descriptions of things, places, feelings, expressions, mannerisms, is so endearing and eye-catching, never a second where I skipped a line, I was CAUGHT. If you like a story with ominous beginnings, middles and ends, this is for you, not to mention the whole religion themes that are so interesting to dive into.

(Released) I miss this one so much but The Soul Stone War by @intimidatingpuffinstudios - there's two books out for this one already and each one is better than the previous. It's fantasy and about powers and there's a dragon lady that you can romance, and the POLY IN THIS IS BEAUTIFUL! Very soulmate-y romance and just generally captivating storytelling.

(Released) Nothing will ever hit the same as The Passenger by @the-passenger-if - there's just something so familiar, so memorable about this story. I don't think in my next lifetime I will ever forget it. It's about an eldritch horror battling with humanity and it's raw primal role as a monster. It feels short but only because you're so into it that time passes you by, but the tone and the flow of this story is very well done (as well as the characters! 🥰).

(WIP) I feel like everyone and their mothers know about Infamous by @infamous-if - but I'm going to talk about it anyways. It's a BAND IF, yes, music, yes, adrenaline, fame, and all the bad decisions that come with it. It's only one chapter out right now, but it's very worth it. I guarantee you the brainrot you will get from this game is going to consume your life.

(WIP) A somewhat popular one as well is Body Count by @bodycountgame - I haven't seen a game do the whole modern reality TV show with a tinge of horrifying brutal horror as well as Nell has, and even though it's still in its early stages, it's very well done and interesting. Lots of ROs to choose from, and genuinely funny humour to laugh about in between the crying sessions of a favourite character dying.

(WIP) Haven't heard that many people talking about this one to be fair but Chop Shop by @losergames - Also a very early stages game, but it's very adrenaline inducing and has so much potential that has me shaking in my seat. I'm already half in love with the cast and I can't wait to go need for speed and play a super chaotic individual.

Also any game by @hpowellsmith, they're amazing at creating consistent well written stories that have such great characters and even better representation. They do it so well, and I've been a fan of them for years now, definitely one of my role models!

I'm sure there are many more IFs out there that you NEED to play/read, but my mind is blank right now, and these are the only ones I could think of. I also don't have as much time to get into an IF, but I'm getting there (thinking of getting into Shepherds of Haven - which you should!)

Until Dawn: Honestly it’s really hard to pick just two characters, but it’s probably Sam and Mike. The trio of Josh, Sam, and Mike is my favorite thing ever though.

Man of Medan: There aren’t really any duos from this game I’m super attached to tbh. Conrad is my favorite from this game so I’ll just say Julia and Conrad, I want to see more sibling dynamics. I do love Julia and Alex though :)

Little Hope: honestly, it might be Angela and Andrew! I was replaying the game recently, and that replay def made me appreciate Angela as a character more, and I saw some moments of those two looking out for each other and checking on them. It’s very sweet. I might make a LH post soon to talk abt that game and the dynamics

House of Ashes: yeah it’s for sure Jason and Salim. I replayed the game recently and I just love that dynamic. Trusting someone simply because you have to is just such an interesting dynamic to me, and they genuinely close. At first I didn’t understand why this ship was so big, but after replaying, yeah those bitches gay

The Quarry: Kaitlyn and Dylan for sure. They’re a lot like me and my best friend :)

The Devil In Me: This one I’m honestly not sure abt because I just love the group dynamic so much. Obvi I love Jamie and Erin, but I think my favorite duo may be Jamie and Charlie. That old man needs more love and they’ve had good interactions, the entire blood trial scene is so good

I think Marshall is jealous of Ozzy. You know how he said in beer pong he wanted to match with Ozzy and dress the same as him but Ozzy didn’t want too. I think that’s actually quite telling. I think he’s a little envious of his brother in certain ways maybe. That coupled with messing up his bookings and being fired by him. If the thing he wants most is Ozzy’s approval then this could explain Marshall’s behavior. He’s just being dumb about how he processes it by not processing it, being angry, and trying to get him back/talk to him. His methods are just plain ridiculous and hurting other people in the process.

I think Marshall going for who Ozzy is into. (MC) Feels like it was on purpose to hurt Ozzy. I don’t think Marshall’s feelings are genuine rn for anyone. I think that’s why he moves onto Amelia. He isn’t as confident that he could get MC to choose him and away her. He also might slightly feel guilty because Ozzy really likes MC even if MC doesn’t like Ozzy. So he moves onto someone Ozzy has no feelings for and hasn’t. That’s why he didn’t try it on with Grace even though it almost seemed like he would for a moment there last week when they (Marshall and Grace) pulled us for a chat. Marshall’s main objective is getting back to the Villa for Ozzy and will use anyone to do it until he starts feeling guilty about using people Ozzy genuinely likes. Even though Ozzy doesn’t like Grace romantically he likes her as a friend. I think after getting back to the Villa and Marshall x Ozzy boil to a head only after Will Marshall be open to us. I think unfortunately for Amelia. We are the twin Marshall is gonna fall for when he starts to be genuine. Marshall is not Marshall rn I’m certain of it. He’s doing whatever he can to get back to the villa.

I don’t think Ozzy has done anything wrong.

Seriously, though, I don't know... there are plenty of parts to him you're supposed to dislike and question, but at this point I have stewed and pondered on them enough to actually adore how well they fit together.

There's at least some sort of inferable reason to just about everything he does or can do, so it's genuinely hard to find a reason to hate him, despite it all. When the character is complex... bottom text...

Off the top of my head, probably "You honestly thought you were in my league." I feel like I talked about that moment plenty (with some people, or maybe with myself), and also not enough, but it really feels like the first (or one of the first) times his core character really shines on its own.

And due to how it's all constructed, in the moment all you can really think about is how much you agree. You just sit there, somewhere between utterly fascinated and deeply... immersed, for lack of a better word, and it's the exact way they want you to feel. They want this to stick, so it does. It's just a good scene.

Shout-out to "You are wise and virtuous." in HERO as well, because that is probably my single favorite bit in the whole thing. Help.

Phantom's Finished: Super Mario Odyssey (Replay)

On one random evening, I was chilling in call with @dayofpi as we gushed about Mario. Eventually it lead to me grabbing my Artbook of the game this post is about and adoring all the ideas and missed potential of the game, to the point for a few months I genuinely wondered if I might rank the game lower than I used to.

This thought lingered within me until I decided to finally start an important replaythrough of the game, and here's what I think...

Upon booting it up, I already felt an endearing familiarity to what a 14 year old Phantom felt in 2017. I wanted to enjoy this game mostly for what it is and not what it wasn't. Super Mario Odyssey is still one of the best 3D platformers of all time that is like a playbox of fun left right and centre.

Sonic: Frontiers is often compared to Breath of the Wild when I couldn't agree less. With the mini platforming and challenges, I would absolutely compare it more to Odyssey in that regard. Before I state what I say, let it be known that I really enjoy Frontiers okay? Okay!

Sonic Frontiers wishes it was Odyssey when it comes to it bitesize challenges, as they almost always serve for strong level design in enclosed or open areas that consistently interconnects. Sonic Frontiers has a lot of mindless points to its bitesize elements of "press/hold button". That's what Odyssey gets right, the constant thrill of platforming within the sandbox level design and the freedom of how different of an order everyone's experience can be. You can play the main story moons, or during that grab side moons, challenges and items.

Gameplay:

If there is one thing that always pulls me back into this game, it's gameplay. Odyssey is the perfect example for everything working around its base gameplay as a perfect core, that being the hat throw. the hat throw is integral to why moving as Mario in this game is so responsive and fun to master. Dive into the hat for horizontal air movement, use it to collect coins as you continue on your path, capture a vast selections of enemies and objects for a quick yet responsive gameplay change.

Speaking of, I love how the captures have a snappy switch up of gameplay whilst always limiting controls to two buttons for easy pickup for how many different things Mario can utilise. Everything is super responsive and it feels beautiful to experience the loop of this game. Every playthrough feels different due to how you can go for different moons each time, experiment with where I go and even get places I didn't know I could ahead of time! Its my favourite controls platformer in 3D (celeste being my fav 2D platformer controls)

However, I do feel the game sometimes lacks a bit in level design. A lot of the time it's really good! Sub-Sections are very good whereas I feel the Sandbox areas of the Kingdoms are inconsistent. My biggest issue is they often lack a level of cohesion with the rest of the world (New Donk especially is guilty of this) and I wish they covered a wider area a lot of the time as with Mario's moveset it is so quick to get through. I feel the best Kingdoms are ones like the Wooded Kingdom where there's multiple paths, elevation and it stretches a wide variety. New Donk for example does have that elevation but it's so simple to get up there it just kinda exists? I wish there was more interesting areas within New Donk to play around as it isn't as fun on replay.

Then there's the few Kingdoms that SCREAM missed potential with the Cloud Kingdom and the Ruined Kingdom. These two are literally just for a single boss and nothing else in the overworld, which is super disappointing with two really cool aesthetics, especially with Ruined Kingdom's unique artstyle.

Artstyle:

This is one of the trickiest part of the game to talk about. Because I both love it and have qualms with it for a lot of reasons...

Firstly though, this game has an insane variety of styles, setpieces and colours! From Bonnetons Nightmare Before Christmas inspiration to Bowsers Kingdom of Japanese traditional samurai aesthetic, the game constantly throws different visuals upon entering any new world. Odyssey thrives on this idea of different cultures and parts of the world for contrasting artstyles and it really works!

However... I feel this also is where my biggest criticism for the game lies. It's that these artstyles don't push themselves far enough when they could contrast even more! Bonneton for example, it has a fun Halloween vibe but why couldn't they have pushed that with the shapes of the environment being crooked and twisted and maybe have the shadows be sharper and stylised? That's what I mean, the styles still all fit into a mold they don't break out of that I wish the game did a lot more

And here comes the big one: New Donk City!This is where the game really conflicts me with its artstyle, as it tries to contrast in such a way that feels unnatural and uncanny. The realistic humans are extremely unnecessary and the artbook shows many better solutions they had in mind. The colours of this world are also lacking quite strongly which again the art book showed a bright bold bustling city with a lot of nods to the series. It feels they wanted this to be the contextualised version of Mario's origin home which makes sense when you consider all the donkey kong references and the fact Pauline is there!! This is considered the iconic local in the game when for me it feels like the one that could've been filled with beautiful fanservice and nostalgic feel. I don't like using the artbook as criticism but for New Donk City I feel it's kinda necessary due to how they clearly had a vision that wasn't able to happen and its one of this games biggest letdowns.

Other:

There's a lot I wish to get into that aren't as extensive due to how much I have to say, so it all goes into this last section!

Starting off with music, which is weird to me. There's a lot of really good music in this game! From Cascade Kingdom to the transition into the tech part of the Wooded Kingdom. However there's a lot of music that is just, average? A lot of music that isn't bad but nothing memorable, which isn't something I can say about most Mario Games' OST. There's also a lot of 8-Bit versions of music in this game which I really enjoy! But I do understand opinions that they should've used a better NES sound chip for it as it doesn't feel as perfect as it could be.

Next up is story and animation! Easily my favourite animation in a mario game with so much squash and stretch the recently released Mario Wonder seems to emphasise even more! I love Bowser and Mario's animation, and enemy animations are amazing too. However I feel characters like Peach could've had more stylised animation. The story itself is good! It's practically the perfect conclusion to the Peach being Kidnapped Saga, a full on wedding where Bowser takes it way too far. Obviously I don't like damsel Peach as she's a lot better when she's a participating role. However, in the context of her being a damsel this is her best one as she is actively seen throughout the game whilst standing her ground at the very end. I love how she doesn't reciprocate Bowser or Mario's feelings whilst Mario and Bowser have an amazing dynamic this game.

My favourite element of this games story is how it feels like an amazing conclusion to the traditional Mario story, whilst now we're getting new stories with Wonder, Origami King and even Peach getting her own tale. Mario stories don't need to be huge but it's important it still fits the themes and adds fun characterisation to them, alongside giving all of them amazing designs... speaking of

COSTUMES! Mario gets loads of cosmetics in this game through coins, giving them a purpose whilst having a very fun way to have different looks and fanservice. You can have a top hat fancy look fitting Cap Kingdom or a Samurai costume to befit the Bowser Kingdom. Then there's cool costumes that are just their own idea like skeleton, zombie or even underwear Mario! They range from cool, cute to gender and funny with so much to work with. I love this element of odyssey a lot, its one of my favourite things to do especially after I've beaten the game to run about it fun combinations (I love the Sunshine outfit)

Lastly is the postgame! A really fun fanservice Kingdom with the Mushroom Kingdom, and whilst I still criticise the level design cohesion like before, I still think this is an amazing world with a lot of fun to be had, alongside a really fun final level that brought me to tears with Cappys final like

Okay so like. I’ve realized that I’m probably not going to fully RETURN to stayville to the extent that I used to inhabit it, because my whole thing has been that I was like… a bit unhealthily attached to K-pop, so i had to distance myself from the fandom, fan culture, etc etc for a bit in order to start enjoying it with a healthier mindset again. And now I have returned! I don’t think I’ll ever go full Stan mode again because that was kinda sorta detrimental to my emotional wellbeing, BUT there are still groups whose vibes and music I love a ton and Stray Kids is one of them! I think I’m especially attached to them because they were the second group I ever got into, and their entire dynamic reminds me of my dynamic with my friend group (read: absolutely unhinged and insane with a dash of queer vibes) so seeing them be goofy together is just like a warm mug of home, yknow?

ANYWAYS onto business. I got into them early 2019, around Miroh era—I remember because I got recommended the Chronosaurus MV (which was pretty recently-released at the time) under a B*S video I was watching and that was how I got started on them. My bias journey with them was uh,,,, a bit insane. To put it mildly. I started out with Hyunjin and then basically did duck-duck-goose with the whole group for like three years until i landed where I am now: with a giant soft spot for Minho (as you accurately put it :>), but also a generous one for Jisung and the group as a whole! (And Hyunjin! My visual artist buddy Hyunjin! I get so happy seeing his art AKSJJHSJHSF I’m just there like “omg he’s one of us!!!”)

Horror Pinball Paradise Lurks in Tarpon Springs, FL

Recently I paid my first visit to a peculiar little museum in the quiet little town of Tarpon Springs, FL, which lies just to the north of St. Petersburg and Clearwater. Unlike most museums, the Replay Amusement Museum is strictly hands-on and this museum is filled with horrors. Horror-themed pinball machines, that is. Something about this particular genre of pin always fascinated my friends (fiends?) and I, even as tiny little monsters. Unlike other pinball machines, these weren't 'nice'. They growled. They wanted to scare you. They played creepy music and unleashed nightmarish sounds upon the arcade. In short, they were irresistible to the darkly inclined! Instead of using quarters at Replay, you pay an entrance fee and you can play until you drop, or until closing time, whichever comes first.

Replay boasts almost all of the best horror machines, staring the number one, best selling pinball machine of all time, The Addams Family, based on the 1991 movie staring Angelica Houston and Raul Julia. This machine has sold a whopping 20,000+ units and is usually ranked as a top 5 personal fav of anyone who plays. Tons of sound captured from the movie puts this game into a category all it's own with world class gameplay to boot.

The second best selling horror-themed pin doesn't break the top ten, but comes in at the 11th best selling machine, and Replay has it, too. The Twilight Zone. As with The Addams Family, there's a huge arsenal of voice and sound straight from the 1960's TV show.

Now we move into the more niche games. They sold well enough, and are usually well regarded, but they were always harder to find and you rarely saw more than one of them in the same place. Call them victims of the 'we already have a horror pin' syndrome. My personal fav, Haunted House, is blessedly here and it looks almost brand new. Hadn't played it in forever and it was just like seeing an old friend who has been absent for far too long. We got along just like old pals. In my youth, this game ate fist-fulls of my quarters with it's irresistible 3 level playing field ("Triple playfields mean triple fun"). I especially appreciated the haunting green color of the 'basement' playfield. Everyday I played this beauty was like Halloween! If I was stupid rich and could own my own pin, this would be it. If I could also afford a Victorian mansion like the one on the cabinet to house it in, even better.

Next up is another popular one, Creature From the Black Lagoon. This one came out right after The Addams Family, and I played it a fair amount, but could never get the hang of it. Really appreciated the theme, though. Excellent sound from the movie and a genuine hologram of The Creature really set this one apart (the film was originally released in 3-D, hence the hologram).

Attack from Mars came out a few years after Creature, and features a strobe (seizure warning!) plus cute little Martian figures and a whole fleet of flying saucers - that light up!

Bram Stoker's Dracula, based on the 1992 move staring Gary Oldman and Winona Rider, is here with it's multi-ball play and interesting gimmick of a magnet that drags a ball across the playfield. Always looked great with it's red color theme.

And we'll round things out with a couple of newer games, Stranger Things and The Walking Dead. Loved both shows, but never got into the pins. Haven't really played much since about the mid-90's, with a couple of exceptions. Both seemed nice enough, but by this point in my visit, I was getting rather fatigued. And unlike the older machines where I could rely upon muscle memory, I'd never played these before and was terrible at them.

I have never seen so many fine horror pins under one roof, and I haven't even mentioned the dozens of other pins lining both walls of this place, with dozens of video games between. A perfect nostalgia trip for anyone who ever haunted an arcade with a few newer machines tossed in to keep it interesting. The one pin I was surprised not to see was one of the Elvira machines. But I'm sure Elvira will turn up sooner or later to complete the creepy collection. Once she does, she can wish you "Unpleasant dreams," when they finally toss you out at closing time.

tw: discussion of suicide

in no particular order cos i watched the episodes 2× but smoked during both watches like an idiot:

- loved the fakeout with the bridge scene in ep1. ignoring his moms calls, regretfully talking to what i assume was a friend from school, the leadup of "i really really cant write anymore cover letters"...genuinely thought jun-woong was about to kill himself. but nope! hes butting his nose in some depressed homeless guys business instead

- sidenote im really enjoying the introduction of jun-woongs character as this kind of pathetic everyman. looking forward to some character development but i hope he keeps some of that for ~flavor~

- pink rukia wears that thick ass fur coat because shes a coldblooded boss bitch built not of flesh and bone but ice. love her tho

- lee soo hyuk in that suit. good fucking lord

- on god i replayed the 2 seconds of him saying goo ryeons name like six times

- hes a bitch though. "wahh how is suicide different from murder" stealing someone elses life from them is way the fuck worse than killing yourself. you dumbshit idiot. like yeah suicide = still technically murder not arguing that but its a choice made by someone about their own life, not a violent exertion of someones bloodlust over someone elses will to live

- THE WAY HE FOLLOWED RYEON WITH IT STILL UP STARING INTENSELY WITH HIS DEAD FUCKING LIZARD EYES I ALMOST DIED LAUGHING deadass he might be my fav character just off that. plus i can practically smell the angsty backstory on him and i love rude bastards with tragic pasts ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯ what can i say i have a type

- speaking of tragic pasts ryeon ima need you to stop shaming all these suicidal bitches when the foreshadowing is telling me youre the biggest suicidal bitch of them all. the hypocricy is unbelievable

- ryeon exclusively smokes skimps bc shes frugal and has a low tolerance; lim has never smoked a skimp in his life he rolls fatties ONLY (not canon obv 💔 but canon in my heart 💜💜)

- OKAY GOTTA SAY seeing them play with jun-woongs character is super cool. somewhat simpleminded but genuinely good guy whos unafraid of speaking up or stepping in when somethings not right? classic. but that little bit of deviousness they snuck in with the toilet paper scene and the way he was grinning like a little kid while hustling that guy down the hallway made me really love him

- i hope they explain the whole "if you touch someone in the memories youll be trapped" thing and how it relates to the memories shattering and collapsing around them more. like do you only get stuck if you take too long to go through a new door with the key and get folded into the memory? and if you get out, since its something that happened in the past, do the people you touch remember you being there? like if jun-woong was the type of guy to beat up schoolgirls could he have theoretically kicked miss webtoons ass, scared her off from bulling eunbi, and spared her that whole mess of trauma by just booking it before the memory collapsed ?

final notes:

i was a little anxious going in because im usually fine with suicide itself but people being blamed/shamed for it or having it blown off as unimportant happen to be massively triggering for me, and both of those are pretty much south koreas whole suicide M.O., but the ending of episode 2 makes it very clear that jun-woongs empathy and support are the qualities that will allow the risk management team to save people and then help them save themselves. its so refreshing to see. the comfort this show (if it keeps going in the direction i think it will) could bring to those suffering is genuinely more than i can put into words

been watching loki, great show! i don't much care (for once) about sy|ki but that's only because i've been into |okane since, like, 2011, so i just don't get into other loki ships. good for everyone getting that sweet sweet content though.

watched season 5b of lucifer, cried like four separate times in eight episodes, fell in love with the show even more. genuinely that show might be my fav, along with cxg.

one of my closest friends is playing in Be More Chill, so i recently dove into that after years of knowing of it but not knowing it completely, and naturally, i want the squip to **** ** ****** *** and *** ** *****—

generally just been playing genshin/replaying p5r with friends and thinking about shuake. been watching a lot of twitch, too, cuz i love to see people play p5r. so honestly that might be where 20 hours/week of the last three months have gone for me while i'm doing work at the same time.

i don't focus on star wars much these days at all, but i'm keeping an eye out on that anime they're working on. would love it if that ends up well!

i watched all of BTR when it came on netflix to remind myself of how much i loved them, so that's another thing

and the newest addition to Your Turn To Die came out, so of course, another ton of time dumped into that.

warnings: smoking cigarettes, fire, angst. mentions of a toxic relationship. italics mean it’s a memory/happened in the past... this is beomgyucentric and tbh the reader isn’t as much of a main character

beomgyu watches it all burn.

the world goes on around him, and he’s isolated from the frantic panic that surrounds him. there’s a blanket draped over his shoulders - a paramedic had put it there earlier, though beomgyu had opted not to acknowledge her at the time. he doesn’t acknowledge anyone, for that matter; not the firefighters fighting the flames that roar against the wooden paneling on the front of his house, not his neighbors that are staring, open-mouthed, from their own lawns as it falls prey to incineration.

all he can do is stare blankly as his home is reduced into nothing. it isn’t his fault, he tells himself. he’d just been so, so exhausted...

beomgyu is reliving it now, replaying the last few hours of his life in the back of his mind as if in real time.

day 63 since you’d left.

he’s finally managed to get the vision of you, all dazzling smiles concealing a sharp tongue, out of his head almost entirely. at the very least, it no longer feels like you’re watching his every move, waiting to sink your teeth into his neck and your nails into his heart. there’s no pang in his heart at the idea you might be waiting for him at home - rather, the relief that you aren’t consumes him every time he walks through the front door. he feels almost free.

of course, in the sick, twisted manner that comes from all poison-borne relationships, he still misses you... but you can no longer say that he’s under your grasp entirely. he eats breakfast with a rare smile, indulging in eggs and bacon instead of cereal. it’s a slow saturday - the best kind - and he spends most of it working at his own pace and catching up on shows he’d started ages ago. he even calls his parents before bed, hanging up with a smile on his face and a calm stillness in the air.

he should’ve known then, the moment he’d smiled genuinely, that his newfound happiness was too good to be true. and really, he should’ve understood that it hadn’t just been you that had been all mouthy arguments and manipulation. he’d returned everything you threw at him with equal or harsher feeling, and he’d started his fair share of worthless arguments.

it takes about 24 hours for him to notice it: the almost full bottle of perfume you’d left to collect dust on top of his dresser, not bothering to take it with you when you’d exited from his life. in a twist of unfortunate events, beomgyu’s just about to sleep when the glass bottle, filled with pale liquid, catches his eye.

he’d been so, so close to having a good day.

it’s like an immediate knife in the gut, an unwanted reminder of the fact that you were once in his life to stay. almost immediately, beomgyu’s itching for a smoke. he’d quit out of sheer spite when’d you’d left - smoking had been at the top of your laundry list of things you couldn’t stand about him - and he’d had the last laugh by stopping cold the day after you cut contact. even though he hasn’t touched a cigarette in over two months, he finds his fingers drumming in a rapidfire fashion against his leg, wishing they were stained with ash at the moment. he opens his window in its entirely to feel less caged, hoping the fresh air from outside will keep him from rashness.

old habits die hard. before he can convince himself otherwise, beomgyu flings open his bedside table drawer and pulls out the pack he’d bought last, untouched until now. he pulls one out with shaking hands before tossing the box haphazardly onto his wrinkled bedsheet, ignoring how cigarettes go flying. he fishes his lighter out of the drawer too, lifting it to the end of his Marlboro and igniting it in one fluid motion before placing the lighter onto his table. moving it to rest between his ready lips is the easiest part.

the flame reflects too painfully off of the golden cap of the perfume bottle. beomgyu’s nerves, already frayed by his return to smoking, burn with sudden rage amongst everything, and he’s swinging his legs off of his bed and striding up to his dresser without thinking. his body takes control of his mind, and he swipes the bottle onto the floor, hearing, but not seeing, it crash against the hardwood and splinter into thousands of tiny shards of glass and pools of liquid.

the rage leaves his body as quickly as it had inhabited him, leaving him analyzing with his own impulsiveness, especially when he’d been doing so well. without thinking, beomgyu, suddenly disgusted with what’s between his lips, tosses his still-smoldering cigarette behind him without a second thought.

the floor is in flames within seconds. it licks at beomgyu’s feet, and his reaction of abject horror, however delayed, finds him in the form of a strangled scream as he realizes that he’s just set his goddamn room on fire. there’s perfume all over his floor, painting everything red and orange and yellow and white, from the floor to his dresser to his blanket. the flames crawl up onto his bed, making themselves at home, and beomgyu realizes his house is no longer his but that of the fire’s. the flames spread out his wide open door and into his hallway, and it takes every working neuron he has to force himself towards the thankfully wide-open window. beomgyu manages to safely scale his wall - two stories have never seemed so high - onto the ground before the reality hits him: his house is on fire. he’s set his fucking house on fire.

beomgyu stumbles back before promptly throwing up under one of the trees on his front lawn.

all of that had been just thirty minutes ago, and since then firefighters, paramedics, and the police have been alerted. in the back of an ambulance,

beomgyu’s still trying to wrap his head around everything - you’re out of his life, but he isn’t thankful. he’s suddenly rendered himself homeless, but he isn’t wailing in desperation. everything he owns - his laptop, the pure white grand piano he’d saved up for years for, all of his photo albums - are in grave danger. beomgyu can’t bring himself to react. even when you aren’t with him, you’re killing him, he realizes. it’s his fault that he lets you.

he can’t bring himself to react, so he does the next best thing. beomgyu watches it all burn.

August 24th prompt: What was your favorite event, and why? Is it because of gameplay or the story?

It’s hard to choose so I’m gonna just, gush a bit.

As you can probably tell I’m very biased toward the OG girls, I started Magia Record primarily because PMMM had become my new obsession and I wanted some sort of constant flow of content out of decade old anime lmao.

But another thing I think I hooked onto was Inu Curry’s writing. They really know Madoka Magica and aren’t afraid to really play with them- something the writers for a spin-off gacha game (as with most spin-off stories honestly) can be scared to do. Inu Curry made references, revealed secrets and built upon the story we already know- which lets be honest is what we always truly want from a spin-off series. Magia Record proper does this well by putting more magical girls into the world and letting us see things work out better for them than for the original cast, but what I really appreciated with this story was getting to see that old original cast get to get in on that, and these events managed to do that without watering them down any.

Under the cut is me going on for 3000 words about why I love these three events I’m so sorry. TL;DR at the very end-

I’ll go in release order,

A La Carte Valentine was one of the first if not THE first event I got in on. I was eager to bc 1 Gay Magical Girl Shit Guaranteed. And ofc 2 OG Cast participation.

I want to preface by saying I actually loved all the girls’ stories in this. I was very much still in a state of getting used to Iroha’s gang let alone trying to care about the secondary girls. I knew Tsukasa had this angsty Twins Separated At Birth Deal and liked seeing her home life (also I immediantly stanned Take. Regular well-meaning dude who has no idea whats going on just trying his best and hating his boss). I knew nothing about Ami except Cowgirl Meguca and getting the bulk of her personality in one short even I think really kept me from being absolutely sick of her, she’s just a cute silly teenage girl who could be in literally anything and I was able to just endearingly giggle at that. Hinano managed to do the heterosexual unrequited crush cliché without me groaning or missing any of her regular personality. Also was there a Ren part? I don’t remember because everything Ren does feels like a Soft Yuri Valentines Special. Also I love Momoko. Ok moving on to what I Really wanna talk about.

Madoka is genuinely my Least Cared About of the Holy Sextet. I don’t think she’s bad or even boring- Madoka has a depth to her character, like, really deep- but that’s not something ever really touched upon by the fandom. Even when people like her and make her the Heroine she’s Supposed to be, it’s usually in the context of “Girl who feels nothing but kindness and happy thoughts would cut off her right hand to feed to a hungry dog. Isn’t she so Good????”. And honestly, while I understand the point it was going to make, I wasn’t crazy about her sacrifice in the end of the series. (Team Homura “Rebellion Is Good Actually” ftw) All because I think that I’m an Adult Woman watching this like “You are 14yrs old and need to be home playing Sims and not sacrificing yourself for the greater good you stupid silly little baby girl”

So my point is here near all fan content I encounter tends to emphasize whats sort of my least favorite facet of Madoka. I don’t think she made the ‘wrong’ decision in the context she and the story were given, but it’s still a sad thing to show a depressed(!!!) insecure girl resolving to give away her very existence so that every other girl on earth has a chance to just Dream. Oh and they still usually die young. But that’s ok because then she takes them and lets them sleep peacefully forever in her Heaven Basement (Yes I am bitter stan Homura I would yank this savior complex infant girl out the sky too)

MY POINT BEING (The servers closing let me BLEED OUT ALL MY FEELINGS) This event did not do that!!! It made Madoka…….. EVERYTHING SHE SHOULD BE??? ALWAYS??? Showed her HOW WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO VIEW HER??? (Read: Happy and Alive and Confident at no foreboding or sacrifice of anyone else!!!!)

She is Sassy and Surrounded By Friends and Really Funny??? And we get this Ridiculous Oh My God On Crack metaphor about her being this all-powerful apocalypse bringing being which is representing her love for the universe through her Witch form of Wanting Everyone To Be Happy And Safe With Her??? And she still risks herself to save everyone as is her Thing to do but we get to have her do it without erasing her existence as a human being at the end and if that is not some GOOD SHIT????

Ok next:

NGL Sayaka’s (fav character, inarguable best girl, can u not tell) parts in MagiReco til like the last arc have always left me a bit disappointed. She was the only late comer of the OG girls from what I understand and it kind of gives her the air of what a lot of the second(/thirdary?) girls suffer from. You can tell the writers can’t even figure out a trope to apply her to to make her easy and two dimensional to write about so they just don’t know what to do. They definitely try to make up for it (especially in the anime which Praise Be but that’s probably Inu Currys doing) but she’s still lacking like, any of the depth of her personality. Which, I guess I could anticipate. Because most of the fandom tends to as well. (again)

Gonna stop complaining and get on with- That didn’t feel as much the case in her Valentine event. Sure it was still the same formula of “The Issue Is Kyosuke” but that didn’t play out as grueling as her personal story did with “Nine Episodes Of “The Issue Is Kyosuke””

There was one big glaring heart-aching detail of “Mami isn’t really there because SHES IN A FUCKING CULT RIGHT NOW” which kind of jarred the event out of the ho-hum silly valentines sidestory these events usually keep up.

Sayaka has this crisis about Doing Anything Meaningful With Kyosuke which we all know what That’s calling back to, but in this environment we get to have Kyoko come right up and be in a position with her to earnestly and affectionately Push Her To Do It. The lonely little tsundere bitch girl pushes her Not Friend to Give The Bastard The Gotdamn Chocolate Already and for a moment you can only think about What If’s and If Only’s. Sayaka’s is still the weakest of the threes stories in this event but it worked harder to show us different sides of the characters then 6 chapters of Another Story managed to do.

And then there’s fucking Homura.

I will be, eternally grateful for Kuro. As a character that becomes metaphorical for the 2D ways we initially viewed the feathers and just NPCs in games in general, and also like, giving Homura a friend she actually cares about that isn’t the tangled dark web of Bullshit she’s gotten tied up with Madoka in. Please ask me about all my AU’s where Kuro is Homuras first girlfriend.

Seeing Moemura in Magia Record has always been a bit surreal, we never really understand just what stage of Trauma this Homura is in because Multiverses Are Hell, but this event gives us a good chunk of a Homura who still has hope and faith both in the world and Madoka. Theres this wonder to her that while still bogged down by terrible experiences still has the energy to be Trying. And she sees a girl who used to be like her- which when you think about it is probably what Madoka saw in her- and she wants to help. Because Madoka helped her. And Madoka is the best thing in the universe and maybe Homura can be just a little bit closer to that.

Kuro is too far gone though, as is the reality frequently in this series, things don’t work out just because of circumstance. Kuro was a bullied, insecure little girl who realistically shouldn’t have had to become a rampaging monster because of it. We’re reminded of this being the reality of the Madoka universe. Homura, is reminded of this reality. Homura loses this one chance to bring hope into the world like Madoka brought hope into hers.

And then her story ties into the ending of Madoka’s. Madoka saves her life yet again, even as Homura continues to feel miserable and empty. But at least Madoka is with her. The girls then share a quiet, intimate Valentines together. And you sort of understand how Homura fell so far into the darkness that the only thing she was able to still care about and fight for was Madoka’s safety.

That shit slaps. It slaps you right in the heart and causes fucking bruising but then u want it to do it again because you’re masochistic and Meguca Is Suffering.

Anyway I hope Kuroe slaps our hearts more in season2

~Nagisa’s Wish~

Ok, I don’t remember what got me so simp over Nagisa, I think it was the heart-aching irony that Mami adopts the witch that fucking ate her. But that is my baby now and I’d die for her. Fandom Charlotte whose pink and silly and loves her mom and is Mami’s cancer-riddled girlfriend is cool and all but she isn’t a tiny Halloweeny baby whose fucking bitter angry and manically obsessed with cheese due to PTSD.

I had saw a summary of Nagisa’s Wish reposted just to quickly explain Nagisa’s backstory, and as such immediately had to search out if that crazy ride was true- so I actually watched this whole event probably before I downloaded the game. It was surreal on its own but replaying it when it came to NA didn’t lessen it any- I got to process more of what I was witnessing and as result stanned Yu pretty hard.

I guess to explain my Emotions here, saving Yu for later- calls for me to just, describe who Nagisa is as a human being and my headcanons surrounding it all with what this event gave us. Whether you consider it canon or not it’s one version of events that we were given and that I am all for accepting.

Nagisa’s Mom was a celebrity, she could have been an actress though I also like the idea of her being an Idol. She met Nagisa’s Dad oh-so romantically and got knocked up- they very well could have been married but it doesn’t seem clear enough. He seems to have left too suddenly for legal matters like that. Nagisa is approximately 11, and while she seems to remember her Father, she doesn’t in the sense of having had a relationship with him or any feelings. Her Mother has to “explain” why he left, so Nagisa was probably still young even if not a baby. What I’m getting at here is the timeline for when Nagisa’s Mom Got Like That. Nagisa can remember her from before she was, and then says that she got sick after her Dad left. So what I’m wondering is did Daddy Momoe ruin this young rich girls life, give her syphilis and then leave her with a baby she was unfit to care for in poverty? I know half of this is running on anime logic but Holy Shit all the possible ways reasons and ideas for why things could’ve gotten This Bad.

Is it ridiculously dark and edgy that the original story we were given was “Girl wishes her dying mother could have her favorite cake but then realizes OOPSIE-DAISY I could have wished for her to Not Die instead!!!!” got turned into “11yr old hates her abusive mother so much she wants to make her suffer in the most symbolic way she can and then goes mental when she isn’t able to do it”??? Yes. But if I had the mental capacity to I have to admit I was in a position to be just as bitter at that age too. I can’t call it unrealistic. I may infact be projecting hard with how much I support and enjoy this backstory.

Anyway Nagisa was in such a state of trauma and distress at a horrifically young age when she died that it broke her mental faculties so severely that even when she came back as a literal Angel of God she had blocked it out so deeply and thoroughly she seemingly regressed to an even younger capacity and hyperfixated on the trait that she has before used to try to bond with her Mother who she had died hating.

And that also slaps u right in the heart.

A N D T H E N !

~Beachside Bonds~

Just the simple structure of this story was so enjoyable and nicely done. We finally get to see the OG girls in a context we wouldn’t be able to in literally any other scenario. They’re going on a summer vacation together and Homura is sentimentally journaling every single second of it. Is this mayhaps because she’s never gotten to be this happy and blissful with these girls she loves so much??? Of course this is are you not paying attention what the fuck. Homura is so optimistic and healed and hopeful she’s acting like what she might actually be doing as a normal teenage girl. (A heartrending contrast to the end of her Valentines Special)

We get nothing short of pure fluffy Slice Of Life shenanigans on the beach which even includes a bunch of the Kamihama girls that the OG crew knows! And they talk about it! And introduce eachother! And their friends commentate on it! Ren gets to see Kyoko Not Being A Bitch and then Sayaka teases her about having made friends and oh my god my heart is turning into cottoncandy as we speak Mom holy FUCK

Sayaka’s existence fucking matters in this story! It’s her families Hotel they’re staying at and she has relationships and memories with the creepy twins that live there and she talks like a fucking person??? And gives opinions??? That aren’t just copypasted “Justice is Good and Bad things are BAD!!!!”

Mami is fresh out of her fucking Cult Drama and she’s still trying to be cool Senpai but then she DECKS Homura in the face and gets scared by the ghost stories and then turns into pudding and waxes nostalgia at Kyoko out of nowhere IT’S ALMOST LIKE SHE’S A FIFTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL????????

This whole fucking backstory and truly horrifying Romeo and Juliet on Acid love and death story between Yu and her girlfriend and like if I wasn’t fascinated enough by Yu just being the creepy organ harvester before but apparently thats what she became after she literally made some sort of wish that erased all of her memories besides the nickname her sweetheart used for her and coincidentally also added to her the task of killing all Bad People?????

Yu made a wish to be able to get rid of All Bad People preserving the innocent version of herself who grew up with this girl and it was right after a failed double suicide attempt on fucking Doomed Lovers Cliff fucking Lifetime Will You Ever.

It then pairs with Homura whose PTSD gets to shine through a bit in being unable to believe any bad sort of Madoka which how could you try to force her to at this point while Also pairing Homura with Ren in the “Gay Love Saved Our Lives: Traumatized vers & Vanilla vers”

I don’t remember if there was a symbolic finale and tbh I have forgotten a lot of the details with Yu and her girlfriend Whatsherface because that shit was just so shocking and bizarre to read and much too painful to reread in a timely fashion just.

That shit hurted but it was full of so much love and hope both doomed and stolen but still was wrapped up in the comforting concept that This Is The Universe Where Homura Gets To Be Okay This Time.

She’s still scarred beyond comprehension and this ghost drama accentuated it all but at the end of the day this is still the Safe Universe where all of them are alive and the Holy Quintet are friends and they’re all going to be okay (Godoka & Aniplex willing) and so many of us love Madoka Magica because it shows girls fighting through the same pain we’ve been through and keeping their hope alive and here we get to see them actually find peace in a clunkily written fanservicey spin-off mobile gacha game and hey, that made me happy while I got to experience it. Thanks for the ideas and memories and tragic backstories and funny thirdary characters MagiReco I’m gonna take em all and Run.
