Jing Yuan begged to differ. The general himself had his reservations about your sudden eagerness to depart. After all, you were a good company — one that amused him to the core and even kept him awake for the better part of the day. You are an interesting being to him after all — much after learning from the exuberant girl from the famed Astral Express suddenly emphasizing your importance when they left you under his supervision.

You, in much simpler words, are adorable in the Luofo general’s eyes. With eagerness and curiosity melding in those gaze of yours that could leave anyone transfixed — wanting and desperate.

You truly live up to the title as the grand overseer across worlds. You were the sole beholder of their sentience, despite the fact that right now, you’re barely aware of your status and your circumstance, it was more than enough for anyone go cherish your presence. How could they not? It was a blessing to see you descend from where you were, behind the great barrier that they all could only stare at when they looked to you for guidance.

Alas, that mattered little, not when you were beside the amused general and his coy smile, fingers raking through your hair; reminiscent of the pattern when he would do the same thing to Mimi when you visited his abode to meet the furry beauty that was his pet.

Quite frankly, you weren’t all too sure if this was something you were used to, being treated like an animal companion, with even the way Jing Yuan’s hand would suddenly roam behind your very human ears, scratching behind out of habit.

The only thing missing was him giving your food to you in a bowl, actually, and you’d be no different than Mimi at that point. Wait. No. You were sure Jing Yuan’s lion also ate out of a golden encrusted plate when you saw his hired caretakers come and feed Mimi.

You removed his hand from your head and only shot him a subtle glare, “That’s a request I can’t honor even if my life depended on it.” You sighed, “I should get going now though, General… I made a promise to help our conductor in sweeping the floors. Apparently Caelus tracked some dirt inside when he decided to lug some trash.”

“Must you really? You’re the grand overseer, no? I believe such a title deserves a limitless freedom in doing whatever it is that they wish,” he coaxed in a suave tone, quick to win anyone over. And honestly, that sounds nice. But you’ve never seen Pom-Pom look so stressed when you saw an unwilling March and Dan Heng drag some trash either wrapped in gold bags or regular black ones inside the express when they came back from Belobog.

You somehow regretted leaving first — but even you had urgent matters to attend to at that moment.

“Ah—!” The lax Jing Yuan jolted at your sudden outburst.

“…Anything troubling you, Grand Overseer?”

“T-Teyvat! I completely forgot…!” Your eyes were blown wide as the panic settled within you. You had promised Nahida you would make it to the Interdarshan championship. She was so excited when she communed with you just days ago, completely elated that even your beloved Wanderer would participate as a representative in a Darshan.

Albeit confused by your sudden squawking, Jing Yuan understood and only watched you pace around while you lamented what sounds to be a rehearsed apology that you will no doubt tell to someone you hold precious.

“How envious, to receive an apology from you even sounds like a great honor.” Jing Yuan teased with a chuckle. “Well then, off you go now. Don’t be away for too long. I rather enjoy our time together.”

“O-Oh, yes, of course… I truly apologize for cutting our time together short. Do give my regards to Fu Xuan and Yanqing if they drop by. I have to go and talk to the crew and also bid my goodbye for now.” You bowed before turning away, briskly walking your way towards the door outside of the general’s office, only to bump into Welt and March.

“Oh! There you are! Ya ready to go shopping?” March held an exuberant energy as she asked, clasping your hand in hers tightly with an excited gleam flashing through her eyes.

Welt, however, was far more observant than March, “Judging from that look in your eyes… you have some affairs you’ve forgotten to tend to, Your Benevolence. Would I be correct in my judgment?”

“It’d be a miracle for you to be wrong at this point,” you laughed amidst your panic. “But yes, unfortunately. March, I hope you don’t mind a little bit of postponement… I have somewhere to be urgently.”

March’s bottom lip stuck out into pleading pout, “But you promised!”

“March, let’s not force them. It is as they say — an urgent affair.” Welt only looked at you with a small nod and an encouraging smile, “Don’t be too worried. I’ll let Himeko and Dan Heng know of your absence. Just be safe.”

“I will definitely come back and visit.” Your smile and reassurance was enough to quell March’s disappointment and Welt’s initial concern. “Please tell Caelus not to track more dirt inside. It’ll only serve to frustrate Pom-Pom further.”

“It’s a useless attempt, but for you, I’ll try,” March winked as she waved to you with Welt.

With a nod to the two of them, you were off to Teyvat — lucky that you have little need for the Star Rail in the first place to travel. Otherwise, it would most certainly take you the entire conceivable time just before you could even come back to one of the many worlds that you oversaw and to a fault, even took care of from afar.

You stepped into the familiar grassy fields of Sumeru’s rainforest, looking up to see that the city isn’t too far off. There was a gentle breeze that blew by, almost like a kiss from a certain archon, but you paid little heed to it. You normally always took your time to appreciate the sights in Teyvat, finding its vast lands and many biomes incredibly fantastical in sight. But even that couldn’t keep you from the fact that you’ve broken several promises that you willingly made to some residents here.

You can only imagine the disappointment in everyone’s faces once you’ve admitted to the fact that… other people may have swept your attention away in the first place — hence your sudden absence.

You owed your first apology to Nahida. She is after all, one of your far more favored archons around, treating her like your own, definitely something that would make Rukkhadevata proud among every other archon out there. And then there’s also a matter of apologizing to your dear Aether, you made another promise to him that you would spend your time with him in Sumeru’s far end by the Realm of Farakhkert to meet the infamous Sorush and the majestic race of the Pari (you once made a claim that Aranara’s are superior, and your endeared traveler was reluctant in protesting to your words it seems).

Now that you thought about it — you were sure you made quite a lot of promises to the residents of Teyvat. A lot of commitments were hammered into your special sanctuary that Aether had built for and with you inside his teapot.

Commitments that you’ve forgotten in favor of space travels with a couple of trailblazers.

Onlookers turned to your direction, completely flabbergasted at your casual appearance. What were you doing in Sumeru city (not that they were ungrateful for your gracious presence) — but it was as if you were solely taking a stroll on your own. Where are your entourage? Was the Acting Grand Sage even informed of your arrival? What about the archons that always accompanied you? Where is Buer?

Best of all, why does your face contort into an expression of what seems to be utter guilt?

You hiked your way to the Sanctuary of Surasthana, refusing any help offered to you by the guards that were courteous enough. You were prepared to face Nahida’s crestfallen look — prepared to start indulging her wishes to make up for the tomfoolery you engaged in. The corners of your mouth trembled as it itched to finally spill out the plethora of apologies that you’ve prepared.

“Oh. So you exist after all.”

Only for your well-rehearsed (by the last minute) apologies to fall apart when the Wanderer’s voice rang from above. You looked up to see him perched on one of the ledges just above the door of Nahida’s residence. He was stationed like a watchful hawk — and he was, constantly on the prowl for anyone suspicious daring to come up to the sanctuary.

Suddenly, a memory of you promising him to go fishing by the coasts of Sumeru had you wincing. And with the way the puppet’s mouth turned up in a smug smirk showed that he was aware of an engagement you swore you’d do with him.

“Ah… I hear you go by Hat guy now?” You tilted your head, giving him a reluctant smile.

“Spare me the meaningless prying. Where have you been?” His eyes narrowed, suspicious and a tad bitter at your absence and incompetence in attending a tiny little leisure that you yourself insisted he join you on. Who the hell even creates plans first and suddenly flakes out? The Wanderer has never felt more betrayed, quite frankly.

You suddenly looked like a guilty spouse that came from a messy affair, with the way you shifted your footing and how you averted your gaze quick. The Wanderer was intolerant of such a behavior however when he finally came down from his little high up spot to face you with no escape. He will summon a void and trap you in it halfway if you so much as make an attempt to escape.

“I’ve been… away…”

“Were you now?” His scrutinizing gaze only served to intimidate you further when he came up close, his nimble fingers tracing against your clothing. “Whose is this?”

And before you, he held a familiar long strand of white hair — possibly acquired when the general of Luofo decided to frolic around with you, coaxing (or coercing, more like) you to give him a much deserved head massage for his hard work (though in truth, he barely did anything that day).

“…A cat.” Technically not a lie. Jing Yuan does exhibit certain behaviors that you can classify as a behavior that a feline has.

“Is it now?” His voice went an octave higher — clearly mocking you if his churlish grin wasn’t enough of a sign about his suspicions of you and your… agendas prior to your unprompted visit in Teyvat.

A terse silence engulfed you and your Wanderer before he flicked away the hair and dragged you inside Nahida’s sanctuary.

“She was disappointed that you were absent the entire Interdarshan event thing. Where in the abyss were you?” The puppet hissed, his grip on your wrist tightening. Somehow you found it far more comforting compared to the times where people would treat you like some fragile object that could break at any second.

What’s not comforting however, were his words. You couldn’t bear the thought of letting Nahida down, and now you’re faced with that very thought becoming a reality that you now have to get through just for the sake of your sanity.

You smiled a little despite seeing the Dendro Archon’s back turned while she minded her own business. There was always something comforting when wasting your hours away inside the sanctuary. Just having to teach Nahida from your old world knowledge about people, and to an extent even teaching the Wanderer with your wisdom that rarely pops out (according to him, with full intent to insult you). It’s not as daring as the time Venti decided to fling you up and catch you or Ei’s insistence on you eating your tenth dango during your walks.

For now however, you had one goal in mind — and that is to make amends with your favored archon and puppet.

Teyvat altogether created an unspoken rule to never ever doubt you — the Grand Overseer. You have a position that transcends even farther than the Primordial One, your eyes that gaze on many universes and worlds. You are the one that took care of the blooming life in each planet that teemed with it, thriving under your guidance.

There was a collective decision among all gods and mortals alike to never doubt your endeavors, much less your love for them. You care a lot about them, and based solely on your constant descent towards their world, it seems as though above all other worlds, you favored them. They were the proof of your benevolence, granting the residents your presence while you walked among them.

Right. That was the case that everyone agreed upon.

However, there was an underlying layer of unease. Heaven forbid may it be doubt; they could never! But perhaps… a tiny bit of uncertainty in the layer of cautiousness as the residents watched you with adoration.

It first started with the wrong names.

When Albedo, Sucrose, and Timaeus wholeheartedly welcomed your help when you visited Dragonspine with Klee. Jean was far too busy with her work and while she wished to, could not have time to bask in your presence after the announcement of your sudden arrival. In turn, you only assured her and relieved her of her added duty in watching over Klee.

Klee was the one to visit big brother Albedo, to surprise him that you were finally back. And you complied. Dragonspine is an extension of Mondstadt, and you had plans to check up on every single resident of the nation.

Suffice to say, you were quickly hooked up in a chair, pulse detectors attached to your temples while you watched Klee doodle away on the floor. For a respected overseer, you certainly were a people pleaser, letting Albedo scan you out of his own volition (Sucrose was fussing the entire time, she didn’t want you to be hurt in the process, after all!).

“Look Grand Overseer! This is you and me and Dodoco!” Your vision was quickly filled with a flurry of bright colors on paper, one that was filled with an abundant amount of red and the other with the colors of your clothing.

“Ah! So it is! Good job, Hook!”

Everyone in silence soon tore themselves away from their work, looking at you with evident confusion.

Klee blinked, tilting her head as she looked just as lost and surprised as the other three researchers in the mountain, “Hook? That’s not how you say Klee…”

Your heart hammered against your ribcage and tried to save it with a cough, “D-Did I now? Ah, my bad… I meant to say was that you… did a great job! It immediately hooked me in!” It was a half-baked excuse — hell, call it a raw excuse even and everyone aside from Klee caught on as the explosive child beamed with pride, just happy that you loved her heartfelt creation.

Albedo eyed you in suspicion before returning to his work.

Then there was your misplaced reminiscence.

In your defense however, Snezhnaya does feel like Belobog. Sometimes… most definitely not because of the fact that both places are constantly subjected in a thick layer of snow.

The Tsaritsa was all but cruel to you. She loved you like any other archon out there and always basked in your presence — even keeping you for herself a week or two longer, leaving the next nation in your rotation of visitation completely restless at your tardiness. However in her gentle kindness was a terrifying beast that laid dormant.

Only then did you catch a glimpse of it on the morning that you and her spent on your appointed room in the palace, both you and the Cryo Archon siting on the balcony while you sipped on a hot beverage, enjoying the mountainous coated in freshly fallen snow.

You sat your cup down and blew on your hands. The Tsaritsa laughed at your actions, pleased that you can truly feel the love she embodied through the cold winds of her icy nation.

“Cold enough for you, Grand Overseer?” She jested with a light tone.

“…Yep…” your teeth lightly chattered. “…T-This place is a lot c-colder than Belobog, I’ll tell you that… B-But not more than Jarilo-VI as a whole…”

All of a sudden, you could feel the creeping coldness from beside you and looked to where the archon sat, her striking eyes looking at you with curiosity… with a smidge of coldness behind them.

“Pardon? Not colder than where?”

Her tone was pressed despite her sweet adoring smile. She took pride in her sovereign kingdom of cryo. It was all for you, to feel the comforting cold after you spent your last stay with Murata in Natlan. This was her giving you love, and suddenly, it wasn’t enough?

The better part of your mind decided to feign ignorance. And you lived to see another day.

And then the sudden secrecy.

By all means, of all people, Zhongli indulged in your stories the most. Whenever you visited Liyue, you were almost always found beside him if Ningguang wasn’t asking for your presence or if you weren’t getting coerced into another drinking competition with Beidou and her crew. And in this case, you were preoccupied with a little something while you accompanied Zhongli in his usual spot.

He listened earnestly to the storyteller while you busied yourself writing a little something on a parchment you had acquired from the Wangsheng parlor when you fetched Zhongli for his break.

And ever so slightly, he’d find himself glancing at your hunched over form, while you stewed in your little activity. He didn’t particularly mind the lack of conversation from you. Having you beside him was more than enough, actually. But it wouldn’t hurt for you to have him be just as engaged in your little agenda, would it?

The former archon peered at your work, only to be faced with scripts that were oddly reminiscent of Liyue’s characters. Albeit there were significant changes that made the language still all too different from his nation.

“…Might you be translating ancient texts, Grand Overseer?” He inquired and was met by a suspicious jolt from you.

It was a text Dan Heng gave you before to practice the language used in the Xianzhou fleet. Only now did you have time to do his little practices upon your descent. You had plans to check up on everyone as soon as you were done in Teyvat, and perhaps impressing Yanqing with your language prowess was a good party trick (and eventually not get bullied into eating something spicy because of your ignorance).

“Ah! N-No—! I— yes. No.”

Zhongli tilted his head and you were quick to recall your flubbed answer, shoving away the parchment into your little pocket. There was a frantic look in your eyes and Zhongli was concerned, naturally.

You used to be so willing in divulging everything to him in exchange for his stories, with the both of you managing to talk from dusk to dawn without fail with him needing little to no sleep and the time dilation that your body couldn’t seem to adjust to. You weren’t afraid to share what you were preoccupied with, and even often let him experience new things from your own world.

So why are you keeping secrets now?

But perhaps, the breaking point was your standoffish nature.

Aether has always cherished his raw connection with you and was proud to wear his closeness to your divinity, not because of infamy, but because of how incredibly special you treat him. While, certainly, you have made the people of Teyvat special on your visits, but what sets him apart from the rest is your adamant expression of affection towards him. For some reason, he was favored alone, not as a part of a collective unlike Venti and his people, or Zhongli and his. He alone was yours to indulge, even more behind closed doors in his teapot realm.

However… something was off after your abrupt visit.

Something had changed when you came home.

You were far more distracted, occupied with that tiny device you always held in your hand. Suddenly, Paimon wasn’t the loudest one in the teapot mansion with the incessant beeping that your phone made. It never did that before, it was always tucked away somewhere, sometimes even letting him place it in his inventory if there was little time to go back into the teapot.

He had always deemed your mode of communication useless. Especially on your travels. It was always so silent, like a useless artifact that you keep on you.

But suddenly it was teeming with life, buzzing endlessly that could drive any man with weak resistance into the threshold of insanity. You’d often pick it up and grant the little device a heavenly smile and proceed to be on it for hours upon hours.

It was a heartbreaking time for him.

It was heartbreaking whenever he would peer at your device, only for you to keep him in the dark as you made some lame excuse.

It was heartbreaking whenever he could no longer recognize your words when you talked about your own anecdotes, throwing name after name at him while he listened intently.

And oh was it heartbreaking when you called him by the name of someone else.

“[Name], have you seen my earring?” He took pride in his informality with you showing your comfortability and familiarity with the renowned traveler.

“Over on the table, Cae— ther… Caether… Aether.”

Not so much with that tiny slip.

Yes. Perhaps that was it. And all the preceding reasons.

Perhaps it was why you sat like a condemned criminal in the court of Focalors, as every archon looked at you with scrutiny and skepticism in their eyes. Only sweet Nahida looked at you in concern. Ah, your poor child. You’d rather her look away than experience the possible punishment you were about to receive.

“Grand Overseer, make no mistake, this is a trial born from the accumulated concerns of us all. This is a trial born… from our love.” The hydro archon’s voice bellowed through the courts. She normally wasn’t one to personally try the defendants, however you were a special circumstance.

You always were.

…Sure doesn’t feel like it…

“M-May I at least know what my charges are…?”

“Infidelity, Grand Overseer.” Ei answered for the collective. “I can only hope you are not found guilty.”

You grimaced. You’re quite glad that this was a private trial, with only the archons, retired or otherwise, gazing at you. Make no mistake however — this was an intimidating position to be in. You may be the Grand Overseer, but you’re quite sure the only thing keeping you alive is their thinly veiled fanaticism and adoration for you. Otherwise, you would have been incinerated long ago.

It might have been your luck. But it was something you would wholeheartedly thank as the moment Focalors slammed her gavel down, the horrifying screech of something you can only classify as a hideous ally pulled you out of your impending doom.

The alarm on your phone rang incessantly, a glaring reminder of your subpar and mundane reality, waking you up from a dream that you could barely remember.

You shot up, only realizing you fell asleep in front of your own computer. You looked up to see your game open, with your beloved traveler gazing down at you with a disappointed frown on his face.

You chalked it up to your awful sleep and rubbed your eyes, closing the game and migrating to the other, where your in-game phone was filled to the brim with messages.

Smothering a yawn in your hand, you can only shake your head.

“My games have been really weird lately. I should probably leave them alone for now. Maybe have fun with Elysia and the girls.” You muttered to yourself but not before powering your computer down.

Truly, your utter cluelessness is bound to drive everyone insane.

Fret not however, they will make it work. They will let you know of their sentience. They will make sure that you are aware of how much they admire you.

Like, okay, it's a lot better than the last year rewards, but it's still so bad. An anniversary reward

Hsr allows you to pick a standart character as a reward for doing 300 pulls on the standart banner, zzz is the same. Wuwa literally has a beginner banner where you can get your desired standart chara under 80 pulls. Plus we got one completely for free as a compensation for lag at the start.

Plus the standard characters in those games are good. Maybe wuwa and zzz will get powercrept at some point, but right now, at the start they're good. Hsr are just good for specific teams and gameplays. Like Bailu is still a good healer even with Luocha and Huohuo, Himeko literally has pure fiction designed for her, etc.

Apart from that, hsr gave out a limited event 5* for like nothing? And wuwa will give out xiangli yao on 7th of September, also a limited event 5*. Just because of the moon-chasing festival.

Like how can anyone in their right mind consider genshin generous with this?

honestly this is the reason why theyre suddenly "listening" and "so generous". yet ppl still are like "omggg its a free game yall are so silly!!!!" shut the FUCK up, hsr zzz and wuwa are all free as well and theyre not making any losses for the rewards (monthly free 10 pull in hsr and zzz (wuwa too i believe, i havent played in a while bc job stuff), selector in all 3 for characters that are actually valuable (himeko/bronya/etc),.......) they throw at you. gnshn has some good stuff yes but they have stupid stuff too and i think its v healthy and important to be aware of stupid stuff in the media you like

an oral history of vocaloid

ive seen a lot of (very misguided) discussion about vocaloid/vsynth in regards to AI voices discourse, so i thought it would be a good idea to sit down and explore vocaloid as a software, as well as mentioning other software of the same genre, to give people who dont really know much a better understanding

first and foremost: i dislike AI voices that are in unregulated spaces right now. actors who are finding their hard work end up on some website for anyone to use without compensation is devastating, and shows a lack of respect for the effort it takes in the field.

however, vocaloid has a much longer history that pre-dates these aggregate sites. vocaloid software was first released in 2004, and was initially marketed towards professional musicians. vocaloid's second version of the engine, however, decided to broaden the market towards general consumers, pitching it as helpful software to those who wanted to produce music, but didn't have the personal skill or ability to have someone else sing for their music (range, note holding, etc). amateur musicians wouldn't know how to direct someone to tackle a lyric persay, but using software would be easy to learn and they would learn the terminology associated with certain performance decisions.

in vocaloid 2's era, miku was released. miku's voice provider is Saki Fujita, a well respected voice actress who actually does a lot of work in anime as well as video games! the popularity of miku is its own separate post of history, but the explosive nature of it, i would argue, is the reason that vocaloid and other commercial voice synthesizer software ultimately ended up geared towards all consumers instead of just professional musicians. (crypton and yamaha did absolutely still cater to professional musicians, having private or non released banks only for certain companies/contractors to use though).

flash forward, and technology has developed way further. in 2013, cevio released, and in 2017, synthV debuted. by this point, vocal synthing has expanded from just singing software to also include software intended for just speaking (voiceroid by AHS software) and the idea of an AI bank to improve the quality and clarity of voice banks is becoming more feasible.

however, i wouldnt say the developments in AI voices came strictly from this side of things. in fact, i distinctly remember back in the early 2010s, people were using websites with voice models of characters like glados (portal) and spongebob. these audio posts were seen as novelties, and admittedly theyre fun just to mess around with (and people often find the spongebob rap music that yourboysponge makes to be pretty well done!), they do lead the way to better developed technology that doesnt compensate the artist...

so back to vocaloid. the thing about vocaloid (and all vocal synthesizers) is that contracts are in place to give appropriate time and compensation, along with permission to even use the person's voice. saki fujita continues to update miku's voicebank because she is being paid well to do so. this can be said for all vocal synth products. because these companies (crypton, ahs software, internet co, etc) specialize in making these tools and products for it, they have the appropriate knowledge on what proper compensation looks like. a random person grabbing a "raiden shogun genshin ai voice" model has none of those things. the voice actress doesnt get money off of that. its stolen work. AI can be used ethically, but it has to be done with regulation.

im leaving out specifics on certain vocaloids/vsynthesizers since its tangential to this post at best, but im making this so people have a better understanding of the history and intended usage of vocal synthesizer software. thank youuuuu

the twins are definitely in some sort of friendly competition, even when lumine groans about 'so much work' her words contrast her actions. aether is more willing to help you around with chores as he was blessed with a somewhat pure heart, lumine however is quite lazy but she loves her mom more than anything and anyone on the world so she helps. <3

aether is admittedly the type of sibling that just stands in lumine's doorway and opens it, tells her that dinner is ready then doesn't bother to close the door as he leaves even when lumine yells at him, paimon on the other hand is a neutral party. she's not on anyone's side but she joins on annoying the twins with the other.

speaking of paimon, she steals everyone's food, you being the one who will give her yours by choice, aether not really caring but still annoyed and lumine being the one who hates it the most because how dare my small sibling steal my food?! aether once caught her watching cocomelon on the living room with her iPad that she definitely stole while she munches on some chips in 1AM in the morning.

when they found out you were dating mr.zhongli they were like: ??? when did that even happen and why is it with him, like no one is better than my mom, "she's way out of your league you loser." quoted by paimon.

the three siblings are really annoyed because zhongli now visits the house on his free days whenever he isn't doing work or if he generally just has free time, he helps around with work and stuff. he's so sweet, paimon once found you genuinely tearing up because he's so kind and cute wtf.

lumine curses out zhongli with paimon who agrees but doesn't wanna swear because it's a no-no word. all while aether listens from the other side of the bed, he occasionally mumbled out remarks. they just can't accept him full.

after the unknown father that they have left their angel mom? yeah they won't take any chances, period. plus it's really hard to accept when they've lived through life without a dad just fine.

paimon dislikes zhongli because he apparently forgot to bring mora when he brought the family to 'treat them'. it was honestly a good thing you had your wallet with you or else the whole squad was gonna help wash dishes in a restaurant for compensation. 😭

when you send off paimon to her school, dates with zhongli happens for relaxation and to also deepen your relationship. but the twins are still hesitant if zhongli is really a good man as you say he is.

it was a saturday, and coincidentally a holiday so the kids was free from school! the trio was now currently hidden in the army of bushes, that is before paimon caught sight of... cotton candy in your hand....

"mom!! can paimon have some too!?"

paimon popped out of the bush on your right, nearly giving you a heart attack if it weren't for zhongli calming you down with the use of running his palm on your spine gently.

"paimon, dear...? what--what are you doing here??" you exclaimed in shock, reluctantly separating from zhongli and instead bringing the small female in your arms, she reached out her arms toward the man.

zhongli smiled fondly, making sure to give her a small chunk of the sweet to ensure that she doesn't choke. you giggled, from the way his body language reacted. It seems like he thought paimon wanted to be in his arms.

but.. you'll enlighten him for once.

"we go in mr.zhongli's arms? yes or no?"

she perked up, looking at you before switching her gaze to the man who still held a serene smile to his face. almost immediately, she responded with a pout "no >:("

"aww." you laughed, so cute!! zhongli sighed, chuckling lowly despite his shoulders drooping in disappointment.

"but why not? mr.zhongli is nice isn't he?he gave you his snacks the other day." you chided with a raised brow, grinning when paimon paused. she looked uncertain on how to reply.

"umm... because he's.. uh.." speaking of.. what was she doing here???

your smile dropped in an instant. and a terrifying look crossed your face. "wait, how did you get here, darling? home is quite far."

zhongli nodded from behind you. "yes, are you alright? did anything happen?" he hummed, gazing at the child in your arms with a concerned tone.

"paimon is uh.. okay.."

paimon sweatdropped, her eyes looking everywhere but your face. in response you merely hardened your look which only made her more terrified of keeping the truth from you.

a nearby shushing sound made you slowly crane your neck to your right once more to see the same bush where paimon came out rustle.

"who's there?"

your instincts kicked in as you huddled the child protectively, just as zhongli moved in front to shield you in an instant.

aether was thrown out of the bush, lumine emerging out of it seconds after. sheepishly avoiding your suprised gaze. zhongli's tense form relaxed though he's.. quite concerned with the matter of bushes and your children.

"hey mom.." lumine laughed nervously while aether threw you an apologetic look. you sighed, facepalming.

so that's why you've always felt someone lurking around when you're out with zhongli..

Golden Slumber further evidences my joke theory that there is (1) competent writer on genshin's writing team who understands subtlety, nuance and discrimination, but that they are locked in the basement for most of the year and only see the sun for one day every 6 months.

(Said writer is responsible for Cyno's characterisation and Itto's quest, obviously.)

It also staggers me that golden slumber -a questline which intentionally or unintentionally discusses and references Edward Said's Orientalism -exists in game where every time the followers of the scarlet king start talking about their god, the dendro archon/a follower of the dendro archon comes in to archonsplain the true history to these ignorant barbarians. The whiplash is unreal.

This quest is also making me realise how much I wish the scarlet king were actually revived (maybe as a playable character).

Like can you imagine the emotional conflict and drive it would create for Nahida and Deshret for Deshret to come back and realise that, though they weren't betrayed in the moment of their death, in the centuries after, Nahida's people endlessly exploited theirs. That the sages threw away their 'human trash' to Aaru village without compensation. That they systematically painted over the desert's true history to demonise the scarlet king. That Nahida did nothing throughout all this. (Because she couldn't do anything. It absolves her, but is she frustrated about it? Guilty? There's material here!)

It'd give the Desert side of the equation a codified and important leader (unlike the big eremite who got jobbed by Dehya) and also have the advantage of grounding the conflict in the present and not 500 yrs ago.

Then again, this is the game where Nahida says "the sages have never done anything wrong until they started harvesting dreams" despite witnessing hundreds of years of discrimination so maybe she just doesn't care. There are people online who say she has no obligation to protect them but like, lmao, sometimes the obligation is just there by morality and capacity, lol.

See, I'm pretty sure that HYV cares about two things - lore, and the Archons. Most character or storyline pretty much just exists to facilitate learning about those things, so in, like, Sumeru - the storyline about the Eremites is only just barely about the Eremites. It's about learning about King Deshret's history with Rukkhadevata, and the Eremite rebellion is used as a vehicle to make that lore relevant so it can be explained to the player.

There's an Eremite rebellion because [x] > We now have to learn how that happened! > We have learnt something cool about Rukkhadevata! > We don't need the Eremite rebellion storyline anymore. They're just cool and over it now that they know the truth. But we WILL keep using them to exposit more Godlore! (Except we already said they got history wrong so uhhhh, the person that has to exposit is-)

It's Watatsumi all over again. The rebellion doesn't matter, shh, the oppression and grievances of their people are just window dressing that we'll do the absolute bare pathetic minimum to address, just absorb all the lore about their dead god, isn't that so much more interesting? Does Kokomi get to be involved in the Ekanomiya exploration? Lmao are you joking??? Why would we want HER here??? Go talk to a million ghosts instead, isn't that so much better.

So that's kind of the angle I view the writing of almost every storyline from, and the function of almost every sidequest character? They just want you to know the lore and craft their storylines around delivering that. They might accidentally write a good character or quest despite this (Sacred Sakura Cleansing still stands on top), but I really don't get the sense they're that interested in actually writing their characters or storylines beyond the scope of a wikipedia summary.

Which is a really long way of saying - sorry, anon, I emotionally checked out of Sumeru's sidequests because they take too damn long so I hit button mash central midway through the Aranara questline and I from what I've accumulated through social media, it doesn't really sound like I've missed all that much. I know the general plot beats of Golden Slumber and how it ends, but I skipped through most of it.

I just don’t think HYV cares at all about the storyline they’ve created with the Eremites beyond how it can be used to Drop Lore about Deshret and Rukkhadevata (and related). They’ll do the bare minimum to wrap it up once it’s not useful anymore. 

I was thinking about King Deshret as a reincarnated character yesterday and originally thought it might be interesting, but I think I would have preferred... I don't know, Rukkhadevata genuinely Did A Bad for what she thought were the right reasons, and Nahida has to accept and make amends for that? It could end up being her first big Action as an Archon - one that sets her apart from both her predecessor and the Akademiya.

I get the sense in Sumeru that HYV is waaaaay more interested in Deshret than they are in uhhhh almost anyone else except Nahida? Is it just me that gets that sense? I can't imagine things would improve if Deshret was a modern character. Tbh, the less gods in the main cast the better. But you know what would be cool?

The most relatable out of the bunch because this man is still broke and can only rely on the primogems he can farm. And he had a LOT. The one thing he doesn’t have a lot on, however, is his luck.

So how did he manage to pull you?: Well after exhausting all his primogem on your banner with nothing but weapons and other characters, he has lost his resolve. But by some weird luck, there was a character bug that was fixed and in his email was the almighty consolation primogem. Enough for ONE pull. And by the Gods he FINALLY got you.

He’d nonchalantly post his screenshot of pulling you using a single acquaint fate in his friend group without any words and everyone else just loses their shit. “You got them in one pull?!” “Yeah” A riot.

This was partnered with the fact that not only is Zhongli an F2P player, but also barely has any five star characters.

He looks calm and apathetic over the news, but behind the screen he’s exhausted and relieved, silently livid.

He has no primogems left to squeeze for a constellation so you’re instead pampered with the best weapon suitable for you (because that’s all he keeps getting).

Zhongles spends most of his time farming for materials to quickly level you up, unlocking all your stories and voiceline, but he fucked up on your build (his artifacts are messy).

He follows communities, forums and videos regarding your character to know all the things he needs to perfect your build. You can barely make a dent against normal mobs, so he knew he was doing something VERY wrong.

Is the type of person to keep refreshing the page for new content, very updated.

Ask him a question about your character and he’s gonna bring you the word vomit that is his research. He’s not gonna stop- probably accidentally developed a copypasta for you.

Also follows your VA in both Tiktok and Twitter to indulge in every bit of content. He also has that screenshot of his pull saved and locked.

On his birthday, a friend of his gifted him a chibi plushie of you and he has treasured it ever since, treating and handling it like its a figurine.

“It is merely pure luck and grace from the gacha gods that I got this character, and I will make sure that they know I am very grateful for this fortune.”

This lucky wealthy bastard with no remorse for his money whales for EVERY character. He’s making a collection, which is to get all the characters, especially the five stars. So when your banner finally popped up, he’s gonna square up and trigger a whole ass meteor shower.

How he pulled you: Money. His luck with this games are actually not the best so he always compensates with money, he got you halfway through the first failed pity, almost giving him a heart attack that he might actually break the bank just to get you.

And then he pulls more to raise your constellation lol.

The first thing he does is look over your character info and read through it all; constellation infos, your base stats, artifact compatibility.

At the end when he’s maximized everything, he would then focus on playing around with your character *coughs climbing noises coughs*

He thought you’d just be another part of his collection but playing with your character was very enjoyable and in-line with his playstyle- oops 100 screenshots with the Kamera-

Any and all merchandise that he fancies would be his, and he’s definitely flexing it to the other sweetie nerds who call themselves simps. He’s fighting for the simping title, and he’s currently neck and neck with this fanartist in Pixiv.

Speaking of that fanartist, he definitely commissioned an expensive and detailed portrait of you, full rights and everything. No one else was allowed to use it but him.

Was also the first one with the audacity to call out your VA to create an account on Tiktok to create more content with your voice. He was successful.

His obssession also comes in the form of self-indulgent contents, and had been keeping track of the ship wars happening. During conventions, he cosplays as the character shipped with you the most (or the character he thinks should end up with you).

Silently scrutinizing those who cosplay you, only ever taking pictures with/of the best looking one, sorry haha

Definitely flaunts that you are his waifu/husbando and will fight for best girl/best boy during debates or polls. Has mobilized the community to vote for you once. He’s very persuasive.

Ganyu the Employed

Ganyu, our dearest overworker, is one of the players in the older stage who actually has a job but still plays Genshin for their past times. The gorgeous sceneries and the music is her main focus in playing the game, not much of a try-hard but still decent in the combat mechanics.

How she pulled you: You came home within 50 pulls! And you appeared again after another 10 pull! Ganyu was so SHOOKT and so distressed because oh goodness, what does she do? She doesn’t know anything much about you!

Will rewatch your three trailers to try and understand your skills better, ended up saving the soundtracks from them because that was such a nice trailer music! Tnbee gains a new follower!

Ganyu will take a while before she can properly play or build you up because she’s so busy with work, she only ever plays when she feels fully done with her work.

During her break she plays with your character while multi-tasking on eating, earphones plugged in and sight on the phone as she farms materials and artifacts for you.

The moment she gets more help from her player friends tho, holy shit, you just ended up being so OP. She had so many good artifacts and weapons for you because she didn’t know what they were for before.

She loves how you’re so easy to use and can easily solo the enemies and even the boss fights. A huge breather, because now Ganyu can cheese the battles that takes a while, to give her more time to focus on the storyline and lores.

Since Ganyu plays for the story and aesthetic, she’ll find you almost always in her team. Still very proud of her pull, she makes the best screenshots of your fights or in the best angle through exploration.

Treasures you so much she starts talking to her phone- “Ah, no, please don’t fall.” “There’s violetgrass up there, let’s try and get it”

Blushes everytime you produce a sound when climbing, doesn’t change you anyways tho

Hums to your trailer music while working, and if permitted, would have the song on repeat while she buries herself in work. She finds it really refreshing and the time she spends in work miraculously flies by fast when she gets lost in the sound.

At one point, when she was given a day-off or if the convention was on her free time, she attends to look for cosplayers of you and take a picture. No one rejects her because she’s so adorable and cute when asking shyly.

Had brought a decent amount of merchandise, preferably the functional/practical ones like a phone cover, mug or keychain. Also has an earphones clamp with your little chibi self as the holder.

When asked, she would shyly announce that she likes your character the most.

“Their character theme and music really soothes me during work, it feels nice to have them, and I have not once regretted ever pulling for them. They are the best.”

Completing quests and going on daring missions was one of your favorite things to do, but protecting Ella was your priority.

Your five-year-old was your pride and joy, the best thing to ever happen to you, despite you having her at a young age. You and your daughter lived a happy life that you kept completely separate from your adventurer work. Nobody except for Jean and Lisa even knew about Ella, as you preferred to leave her with a babysitter on the days you were around town.

Ella was with the babysitter now, as you were sitting at a desk in the library, researching more on Abyss Mages before taking on a commission that included them. Your mind wandered, though, imagining how Ella would make you play dolls with her when you got home. She’d then play by herself for a bit while you cooked dinner, only to bathe and fall asleep very quickly after that. Goodness, you really missed her-

“Y/N! Just the girl I was looking for.”

You peeked up from your book, quirking an eyebrow. “You were looking for me?”

You’d lost a bet yesterday with Kaeya, and his reward was you stopping by Diluc’s tavern with him for a few drinks. You hadn’t drank since you became pregnant. Kaeya didn’t know this, of course. You’d only moved to Mondstadt a few months ago, but you’d become close friends with the Calvary Captain and the other knights.

Yet, you couldn’t bring yourself to tell everybody about your daughter. Especially those who you may be slightly... romantically interested in. You’d had men in your life before who knew of Ella. They’d ultimately left, leaving both you and your daughter heartbroken. You kept her a secret from then on, unable to put your daughter through that again.

“Yeah, yeah. I remember.”

“You better. I’ll pick you up from your place this evening.” Kaeya winked at you- or blinked, you really couldn’t tell with that god-awful eyepatch- and walked back to his own office. You blushed at the thought of being alone with him.

Was it like a date? Just two friends getting drinks after work? What? You slightly hoped for the former.

There was no denying that Kaeya was an extremely attractive individual. He was everything you wanted in a man, plus some. You often daydreamed about what it would be like to be with the Cryo user- how happy Ella would be around him and how well he may be with children. You imagined your family to be happy. But alas, that was just a daydream.

One that you had to quit imagining. You were getting too hopeful.

You shook your head and closed the book, deciding to head out of Mondstadt to complete the commission.

A grin appeared on your face as you scooped your daughter into your arms, spinning her around in a hug. Ella’s babysitter stood in the doorway with a smile on her face, watching your toddler tell you about her day.

You walked over to the older lady, smiling back apologetically. “I’m sorry to ask this, but I completely forgot that I had promised a co-worker to go out with them tonight. Would it be any hassle for you to keep her a little longer?”

“Of course not.” The sitter waved her hand and you set down Ella, who skipped to her room to play.

“Thank you so much,” You sighed, “I promise you’ll be compensated.”

She only laughed and turned to go into your daughter’s room, leaving you to head to yours.

You began getting ready, but you had to pause, feeling anxiety sink into your chest. It had been a while since you'd had feelings for someone and while this evening may be a casual, platonic outing to Kaeya, it was nothing less than nerve-wracking for you.

Was it platonic, though? Kaeya was always quite the flirter with you- but he was like that with others, too, wasn’t he? Was this a simple co-worker get-together, or was he picking you up from your house for a potential date?

Kaeya was coming over to get you. To walk with you to the tavern.

You internally panicked. Ella always cried before you left and today was probably no exception. You weren’t ready for him to know about your daughter yet. That was something for when you were 100% sure he wouldn’t be weirded out. He wouldn’t, you were sure, but your nerves definitely told you otherwise.

“Miss Y/N? There’s someone at the door.”

You froze in your spot for a second, but thanked the babysitter and rushed to the front door.

“Hello little one.”

“My mommy’s in her room getting ready!”

“Oh, is she now? She’s getting all prettied up?”

“Mommy’s already pretty!”

“Aha, yes she is.”

You couldn’t help but wince at the sound of Ella and Kaeya’s voices. All secrets were out the window now, you supposed. You came to the doorway and scooped Ella into your arms, giving Kaeya a weary smile.

“I’m sorry for making you wait, I’m ready when you are.”

Kaeya chuckled, “Let’s go, then. I do believe that we have a lot to talk about now.”

You sighed and put your daughter down, giving her a kiss on the forehead before following Kaeya to the tavern. The walk was silent, but your mind wasn’t. You were dreading whatever “talk” Kaeya had mentioned, already fearing the worst. He’s a rather liberated man- there’s no way he’d be interested in a girl with a kid, right? That would tie him down too much.

Your panic attack was cut short as Kaeya entered the tavern and loudly greeted the people inside, leading you to a seat in the corner of the room. You sat silently, fiddling with your fingers and avoiding Kaeya’s gaze.

“So, when were you gonna tell anyone?” His voice made you look up.

“I mean, Jean and Lisa know...”

“And I didn’t? I thought we were close, Y/N.” There was an obvious joking tone to his voice, but you still felt a sharp pain in your heart. You felt guilty.

“I just don’t want a lot of people knowing of Ella. It gets complicated, especially being an adventurer with some enemies. Friendships can get complicated, too.” And relationships, you refrained from saying. “Please don’t see me any differently-“

“See you any differently? Why would I do that?” Kaeya furrowed his eyebrows. “I already adore having one of you around, so it’s even better that you’ve got a cute little mini-me running around too. I understand it gets hard, but you’ve got Jean and Lisa, and now me, to help you out. I’ve only met her once, but I love her already.”

Your chest warmed at his words and you gave him a small smile. Kaeya returned it and looked down at the table, reaching towards your hand and giving it a tight squeeze. “There are no ill feelings towards you just because of that. Some people aren’t too supportive of single parents, but that’s not who I am. Anything you need, you can count on Kaeya to help.”

“Thank you...”

You squeezed his hand back and he beckoned a waiter over. The evening was spent drinking and laughing, never once releasing hands.

Anyway, I had fun playing the latest updates to Genshin Impact and those Eremites are... 👀. Ahem. Regardless, I started this drawing just after 3.0 released and as I just finished 3.1′s Archon Quest yesterday evening, I thought it appropriate to finish this by giving it a background and shading.

Looks pretty good, no? I had fun with the colours and keep in mind my reference for the Eremite Clearwater(?) was a screenshot I took from quite a distance away at night with the Kamera so... Yep. I didn’t bother to find a better reference image, so the colours may be off. Regardless, it’s a pretty good drawing!

Anyhow, here’s break number 2 for me talking about Genshit that has happened to me in the game. I tried to get Dori and pulled well over 120 Wishes during the banner and got no less than FIVE SUCROSE, plus one Yun Jin and one Xingqiu and some 4-star weapons I already had. Also Kokomi as a 5-star. But no Dori!! So I better get Cyno and Candace for compensation or else I’m going to go to MiHoYo’s headquarters and ask nicely for them to rerun Dori soon so I can get her.

I am working on collecting every Electro character in the game because they come to me like moths to a flame. I’m only missing Razor, Dori (DORIIIIII), Cyno, Keqing, Raiden, Yae Miko, and Tighnari. I know Tighnari isn’t electro but I need a better Dendro unit than Collei because I’m not a fan of her in the same way I’m not a fan of Amber - I don’t know why, but I just am.

I also want to get Childe because every “your X is your genshin waifu” always keeps giving me Childe his DUMB ASS BETTER COME TO MY PARTY OR ELSE I’M FIGHTING THE FATUI.

I also need to get better 5-star artifacts for Itto, but as of right now, my man can E-skill yeet Ushi at a Hilichurl and slap it once to win. It’s quite exciting.

Kyouka Izumi- Assasin in the streets, babysitter in the... Genshin Impact

Kyouka is that cute, stubborn kid that overfixates on things. Atsushi is things. Look, we all know Kyo-chan is mad intelligent and talented and it shows in her game play. Right off the bat she got the sense of the gameplay of every type of character and decided what works best for her. She knows what type of team she's going for and knows how to manage her materials wisely.

When she plays alone, Kyouka works towards bettering her characters and pushing through the storyline. Her favourite way to play the game is with Atsushi, whether alone or in co-op with others. Playing with Jinko is a huge win-win situation for her - she helps him beat up whatever he needs to take down and complete puzzles, he gives her praises and gratitude. And materials, but seldom does she take them.

Her main job, though, is to protect Atsushi and his world from the otherworldly evil known as the suicidal maniac, Dazai Osamu. She's fairly successful.

Yosano Akiko- retired nurse, now a terrorist

Did you really think she'd stay a healer without having the sadistic satisfaction of hurting people in grotesque ways? Nay. She doesn't have a single healer on team. She either has a teammate who's a healer like Haruno, or she wastes abundance of food until she can teleport to a statue of the seven.

Her game play is on crack, basically. She has several energy spurs, sometimes several times a day, where she rages through the game, before losing interest and going shopping. It's very possible with her that days can pass before she feels like playing again. Then she binges the game for hours and repeat.

When i say she acts like on crack i mean it. She has rage in her veins instead of blood. She tanks her characters and goes out looking for fights with worst possible opponents. Hell, she'll under equip her party just to see how many mofos can she take down in weak state. Spoilers, a fair few. She does die quite a bit, and is almost always out of food, but she's just as stubborn as she's crazy. Those two thing correlate probably. Which is why she made Azdaha her bitch. Her party consists either of strong, hot milfs women like herself, or twinks. You won't see someone like Childe disrespecting her vibe.

Main Team: Beido, Venti, Hu Tao, Rozaria

Sub Team: Lisa, Yanfei, Ningguang, Xingqiu

Beido and Lisa main. Bad bitches only.

Naomi Tanizaki- the fangirl player

She basically collects the cutest characters possible.. That's how she chooses her characters, based on cuteness. She went for the hot ones first to pull her brother but she got jealous and changed her tactic. You know she's spending her money on character skins and certain banners. She's insanely lucky tho?? She got Qiqi on the standard banner as her first 5*, pulled Klee on her banner in little over four 10 pulles and got Diona eventually anyway. Baraba and Xiangling were free and she mained Xiangling untill Klee rolled in. She spent some money on Venti and was already in pity when Ganyu came around. She's fully ready to whale for Kokomi though.

Now i know i said she's incredibly lucky, right? Yeahh that luck has to turn against something to keep the balance and well... she's still crying over Chongyun.

She usually co-ops with her brother, it's a daily ritual. Loves co oping with everyone though, mostly Haruno, Atsushi and Kyouka. She made online friends as well. Actually, there is one person she co ops with almost as much as she does with her brother. IchiGawa is her Genshin bestie and they talk about their crushes and infatuations besides the game itself. Her friend is the only secret she keeps from her brother.

Main Team: Klee, Diona, Venti, Barbara

Sub Team: Razor, Xiangling, Xingqiu, Qiqi

Haruno Kirako- the healer

Literal angel. You need her, i need her, ADA needs her, the president needs her, just... yes. Her whole team consists of support- healers and crowd control characters. She was a f2p at first, but realised she earns her own money and can spend it however she wishes and she chose the monthly cards.

She's a necessity, point blank. She can get intimidated by new foe at first, but when backed up by her friends, she becomes determined and flexible. Pays good attention to her teammates, most importantly, their health bars, and acts accordingly.

The only reason most of them made it as far as they have, being as reckless as they are.

Main Team: Albedo, Barbara, Jean, Venti

Sub Team: Qiqi, Noel, Jean, Xinyan

Mains Albedo and Barbara

Fan fact: She's very fascinated infatuated with Albedo!! He's even her home screen and has posters and key chain of him.

Gin Akutagawa- that cottagecore assassin

You may be wondering what that could even mean. Let me tell you, she brought Animal Crossing to Genshin Impact. Sure she takes care of her characters and they're pretty powerful, but she kicks ass in real life as well. The game is her little getaway, especially since Serenity pot has been introduced. She's been making away her home for her and her brother characters. You can see her chop wood, collect materials, taking pictures with her friends and her brother, sometimes of pretty scenery and cute moments. A very wholesome player.

She's the type to help her friends explore their world and help them find oculi, open chests, shrines, collect flowers, mine... She's very patient, but if she sees her co-op teammates struggle with something, she'll jump in to help do it herself untill told to back off. In which case she will listen and silently give her support, usually with the cheering stickers in the chat.

She's f2p! Sure, she could get the monthly card at least, as Ryunosuke told her, but she really wants to enjoy the game on her own terms and have what she does through her own effort and hard work. It just feels satisfying to her and more personal.

Main Team: Jean, Ayaka, Diluc, Barbara

Sub Team: Doesn't have one! She just changes characters if certain elements are needed.

Jean main!! She admirers the relationship her and Barbara have. While she's the younger of the two, she's taken the mantle of the older sibling, in a way, and is looking after her reckless as heck brother and cares for him like Jean does for Barbara. Jean is also a wonderful person in her eyes and Gin harbours great respect for the blonde.

Higuchi Ichiyo- IchiGawa 🤡

I love Higuchi so much, but my girl is a mess and a half. Help her, please. No, really, she needs help. She's been over compensating for not being dramatic and eye catching in the battlefield, and has now found a new way to prove herself to her Akutagawa-san. Problem is, as soon as she sees a potentially powerful character, she has to get them and boost them to the havens... yeahh, good thing you can't do loans in the game, otherwise she'd have sharks on her ass for having a bill as dramatic and eye catching as Tsunade's from Naruto. Our girl out there turning heads for wrong reasons. She's definitely spent her pay checks on the game "oh no no, i just buy the monthly subscription, ehe" ehe my ass, you bankrupt bitch. Baal is coming and she's looking to sell a kidney. No, it's not her own and no, it doesn't have anything to do with the game. It's a mission, for God's sake.

But hey, the game is a good investment for her! She even made a friend, one that totally understands her how she feels!! They're very alike as well, ready to do anything for the person they love. The two talk about love a lot and have bonded over it. Higuchi is actually a jealous and a protective type of person, so she hides her friend from Gin and Tachihara like snake hides it's legs. If only they knew 🤡. But it's better this way as they both have a certain sense of normalcy and familiarity they were missing in their daily lives. (Higuchi and Naomi meeting scenario when?)

Main Team: Xiao, Fischl, Xingqiu, Diluc

Sub Team: Baal (soon?), Venti, Ganyu, Zhongli

She mains Xiao because he reminds her of Akutagawa-san and yes, she uses characters from her sub team when playing with others.

Fan Fact: when she was asked why her username is IchiGawa, she said she's like a river 🤡 No, it does absolutely not stand for Ichiyo Akutagawa.

Ozaki Kouyo- the husbando and loli collector

Don't get the wrong idea when i said loli collector. She just needs to adopt them and look after them. She also enjoys watching her precious babies kick ass like her Kyouka. But that's a two way sword, because she gets angry when they die. Savage.

And yeahh, the real reason she's playing the game... Mr Zhongli. She switches often between eng and jpn audios because she can't decide which sounds sexier. Also, Mr Diluc? Yes, she would like to be served one sex on the beach please and thank you! Ah, Mr Kaeya, a perfect window of opportunity, yes.

She has a huge spot for the teenager group as well. Razor, Bennett, Fishl, Xiangling, Xingqiu and Chongyun are also her kids. She just finds them very precious (don't we all?).

Elise- the evil lackadaisical player

Mori found out about the game from Higuchi and Tachihara and introduced it to Elise, telling her she should make a team of sweet little girls like herself and have fun going on adventures around Teyvat. In response, Elise made a team that, not only does it not have a single child in it, but is using it to gaslight and bully Rintarou.

"Why aren't you smart and inventive like Albedo?"

"Why aren't you as passionate and persistent as Sucrose?"

"Look how capable, loved and admired Ningguang is. You could never."

"I wish i had someone as strong, caring, handsome and rich like Childe looking after me. He would treat me like a real princess. "

Mori has been crying rivers ever since.

Thing is, Elise isn't even that interest in the story. Actually, she couldn't care less. Some characters are interesting to her and she likes the graphics, but other than that, she's mostly playing the game to torture the greasy doctor (as she should).

Writing Plans for 2022

As I said in a previous post, I have been finally released from the hell of 12-hour shifts. I was on this schedule for 6 months and, while it is not my first go-round at this, it is immensely stressful both mentally and physically. I scored some time off for the remainder of the week in compensation as I was just too exhausted to go right back into work. 

As promised, I wanted to delve a bit into what my plans are for writing now.

12-hour shifts aren’t the best environment to write much of anything and for the last six months the most I’ve done is help out some writing friends with their projects. Being out of practice for so long, I want to write something simple and shorter in length compared to my previous works. It’s a way for me to get back into the rhythm of writing. So, I’m announcing something a little different.

I’m heading back into fanfiction. This time, for Genshin Impact.

I’ve been playing the game for a while now (since last October) and I’m totally hooked. Love the world (especially Inazuma), love the gameplay, love all the characters. I can’t think of a better venue to enter back into writing. This year’s first story from me will be an AetherxAyaka fanfiction. I loved Ayaka’s story quest and she’s such a sweet character story-wise. I have yet to get Ayaka, but I’m determined to pull for her when her rerun banner comes out.

I won’t divulge too much in terms of details until I’ve made some progress, but the story will be shorter compared to my other works, probably only being 6-7 chapters maximum. Depending on how well and how fast I can work, I hope to have it out before the summer, but as I’ve learned, writing on a schedule is not a guarantee, so don’t hold me to that. 

Apart from the Genshin fic, I do plan to write another horror story this year as people seemed to like my last one (which you can read here, if you’re interested). I’m aiming to get that posted in time for Halloween, which is more than seven months away. It may end up being shorter than I anticipated if only to meet the deadline, but I am determined to put that one out. I had such a fun time with my last one that I can’t really just have that be the only horror story to my credit.

Finally, the project most people will be interested in. The Jozef Poniatowski Saga. No, I haven’t forgotten about it. It’s been sitting in the back of my mind for as long as I’ve been working those god-awful hours. I have been doing research and refining details in what little downtime I’ve had these past six months. I promise you all that it’s still on my to-do list, but that brings me to something else.

Earlier this year I managed to secure a transfer closer to my home outside Washington DC, and right now it looks like I will be back there sometime in the spring (either April or May). When I do transfer, I’ll likely be busy settling into my new work routine and learning the ins and outs of my new position. I have no way of anticipating how that will affect my work on the Poniatowski saga, but I want to write this when I feel I’m good and ready. That means it may take longer for me to get it out. Not saying with certainty it will happen, but be ready if it does. 

I WOULD apologize for this, but it’s important to remember that when you’re not motivated to work on a passion project, you shouldn’t do it until you are. Never forget that, future authors.

My project, my schedule, my terms. As much as I appreciate and love all the support given to me from the Napoleonic community, nothing will change that reality.

However, rest assured that when I DO start work, you guys will all be the first to know. And hey, hopefully these other projects will tide you over and give you some idea of who I am as a writer.

I’ll update this tumblr and the wordpress blog again when I have future updates.

Pretense | Genshin Impact | 1/?

Part 1 of a Gen/shin Imp/act fic w Tartaglia (who also goes by Childe) and Zhongli. Tartaglia forgets to take care of himself as usual, and Zhongli catches on eventually.

He’s only started getting settled in Liyue when it happens.

Childe wakes up with the kind of headache he can’t ignore and a faint, shivery feeling that feels undoubtedly out of place. Liyue isn’t cold, even in the winter—hell, he’s used to Snezhnayan winter, and even the coldest of days here wouldn’t even live up to winter at home. 

He supposes maybe it was the missions that’d done it—an influx of new recruits to train, a commission involving debts to settle, a run-in with ruin hunters and another run-in with abyss mages. It’s nothing he can’t handle, but in between dinners with his newest acquaintance—Zhongli, of Wangsheng Funeral Parlor—he can admit he’s been spreading himself thin.

He makes rounds to see Ekaterina. She is waiting for him at Northland Bank, punctual as always, as he slides in. 

Next to her, he is Tartaglia again, as easily as always.

“I am passing off some of my more mundane tasks to the recruits,” he says. “I will inform them of their assignments, but could you handle the compensation when they’re done? The amounts should be standard.” The next breath he takes settles uncomfortably in his lungs, and he finds himself veering away to cough into his shoulder.

She regards him. “It should be no trouble.”

“Great,” he says, clearing his throat. “Thanks, Ekaterina.”

He’s already turning to leave when she calls his name again.

“Just a minute,” she says, studying him for a second. “When is the last time you’ve taken a day off?”

“I haven’t had the time,” Tartaglia admits. “Why? Is there something I will need to do off work?”

She raises an eyebrow. Her Fatui mask makes it difficult to read her expression, but he thinks she might be concerned. “You seem tired. I am only worried you’ll run yourself ragged.”

“No need to worry,” he says, throwing in a smile for good measure. He has no idea if her line of questioning means she can see right through him, and he has no intention of finding out. “I wouldn’t be a Harbinger if I couldn’t look after myself, right?”

He has a meeting with Zhongli at five o’clock.

They’ve arranged to meet up outside of Wangsheng, get food at Wanmin restaurant, and take a walk along the Liyue waterfront. Childe won’t admit it openly, but his meetings with Zhongli are quickly becoming one of his favorite parts of the week.

He’s here to steal the geo archon’s gnosis, first and foremost, but Liyue—with its bustling merchant harbors—leaves him with no shortage of tasks to complete. His secondary role here is to manage financial matters, interface with recruits, resolve any local disputes, and deliver any information the Tsaritsa asks of him. Today, he’s been tasked with taking down ruin guards up north and then clearing a camp of abyss mages past Lingju pass. It’s supposed to be a demonstration to the new recruits.

Normally, he likes having an audience. It gives him an excuse to show off. 

Today, he can only hope the recruits don’t notice the ways in which he slips up. The fourth and fifth time he ducks away to muffle a sneeze into the crook of his arm, the ruin guard comes too close to landing a blow on him. Under the haze of exhaustion and what must be a growing fever, he gets caught in one of the mages’ ice fields and shivers so hard he almost can’t hold his hydro blades still. He wastes a second too long catching his breath and narrowly avoids getting impaled by an icicle.

By the time he makes it back to the city, his head is throbbing, and his limbs are aching. He’s running late—if anything, Zhongli’s probably already concluded he isn’t coming. It’s probably for the best that he won’t have to see Zhongli at all. He isn’t sure he could look presentable right now if he’d tried, and Zhongli—who has no knowledge about what kind of work Childe does outside of Liyue—will probably have concluded that he’s been stood up.

He figures he might as well drop off a letter of apology so he can clear up any misunderstandings early. Except…

Except when Wangsheng comes to view, a familiar figure is sitting outside on the steps.

Childe stares.

He’s two hours late to their meeting. There's no reason why Zhongli should still be here, now that the sun’s half-setting, because no one in their right mind would wait more than a few minutes for dinner and a walk.

But Zhongli is really here—as put-together and devastatingly handsome as always, perched on the steps in his suit as the last of the evening sunlight silhouettes him in gold. And Childe—

Childe is exhausted. The Fatui recruits are always excited for the opportunity to work directly under one of the harbingers, and Childe—who remembers exactly what it was like to be a recruit, bright-eyed and enthusiastic—always entertains them. He exceeds their expectations on principle; it's not easy work, but it's fulfilling. Today, though, judging by the way he’s unsteady on his feet, maybe it would've been more rational if he'd taken things easy for once.

But Zhongli’s waited two hours for him. Spending the evening with him is the least Childe could do in return. And as much as he knows it’d be better to head back and sleep this off, a part of him—a stupid, selfish part—wants Zhongli’s company more than anything. If the price of that company is to keep up the pretense that nothing’s wrong, it must be a small price to pay.

After all, Childe’s convinced everyone he's met with today—judging by the fact that no one’s asked--that he’s fine. What’s a few hours of pretending?

So he gathers himself with a yawn and a cough, stands straighter, and heads up the steps.

“Xiansheng!”

Can everyone please make a Feedback / Suggestion ticket to Genshin Impact, asking them to give us something to do in the End-Game, that isn’t waiting for Resin / Dailies to reset, or look around the map the 100th time that AR in hope you might have missed a chest? Waiting for new content is never fun in a game, but having literally nothing to do in it other than wait is something that I think will actually kill this game once more and more people start to reach that point. The Developers keeps asking and urging people to leave feedbacks, please do so!

You can suggest them whatever, but please do suggest them to try to give us something to actually do! It don’t have to be something overly complicated, maybe just “Go fetch me 20 Dandelion seeds and Ill give you 10 resin!” with a rotating required item, just something. I’ve seen a few people try to argue Spiral Abyss is “Good end game”; which I KIND OF agree with, but considering most character/ weapon/ artifact combos are not actually valid for every floor, that still just boils down to waiting for Dailies or Resin to farm Leylines for characters, or dungeons for artifacts. Things I’ve suggested so far! Quests asking for a changing required item that restores resin; for example a NPC asks for 20 Acorns, then gives you 10 Resin, then he sends you to another NPC somewhere else that asks you for 20 Sweet Flowers, then gives you 10 Resin, repeat with tons of diffrent items and NPCs, unable to “skip” one. Of course this could make you overfloaded with Resin to start with, but after a few days your supplies would quickly run out, together with the quests occasionally asking for items like 20 Crabs, where you might just have spent your last ones on cooking. It would still rely quite a bit on you running around exploring and gathering, together with giving you something to do, without being “too” rewarding.  Another suggestion! Slightly overhauling how Resin works. Having literally ALL of the End-Game blocked by Resin is... not fun for anyone. I personally think it would be much better if dungeons simply did not require Resin but also did not give AR exp, but leylines and bosses did, possibly with the bosses needing 50% more resin and giving 50% more AR exp; with a bit boosted drop compared to compensate the higher cost and make them feel more impactful. This would still “gate” people while they level up, since they would still have to grind for the Character Accention materials, and wouldn’t be able to grind to max AQ, while it would give people in the End-Game something to do as farming Artifacts with literally PERFECT stats will take a VERY long time, even if spammeble.
