#genshin 1.3 patch

I think HSR needing time between story updates is entirely reasonable.
I also think that splitting a (quite short) epilogue off from the actual quest climax was... Jarring. It really ruins any sort of impact Tingyun's death(?) might have had. This is not an unfair perspective - Hoyo certainly had this epilogue finished when they released 1.2.
It's also fine to have limited time events to fill the space between main story releases. 1.1 was very enjoyable! I liked the fun event things and had no issue with the lack of map expansion. However, mixing the two clearly doesn't go over well - advertising a 35 minute main story quest and then pulling the rug out from players to show it's actually an event patch is weird. It makes the main quest feel bad and anticlimactic. Hoyo should have built more anticipation for the SU event, which I forsee will be widely popular.
I think it's also important to remember when discussing live service games that while, yes, frequent content drops is a lot, these games also manipulate players into logging in daily. It's the business model. I enjoy grindy things - Genshin, for one - but we have to acknowledge that Hoyo preys on FOMO in order keep people playing. They're the ones stretching out content releases to maintain a playerbase when all you can do in off-time is dailies. Players getting bored and impatient is a symptom of feeling inclined to log in daily while not being rewarded for that dedication.
If HSR weren't a live service game, for example, then story releases could come out months apart. The devs could have plenty of time to polish up full arcs before releasing them. But then it's not as addicting, there's no real draw to grinding you TB powder everyday and you're not going to buy that new character that's rated up because no new story has come out in five months and you're not invested anymore.
I recognise what op is trying to say, but there actually is some nuance to this conversation. While it is unfair to expect so much content in such short time periods, it is equally unfair to expect a playerbase to stick around when there's nothing to do. And though players can take breaks (and should!!), every part of HSR's design dissuades you from that.
It's been established at this point that all the new story content is going to come out in short bursts at a time, calm the fuck down and be patient ffs.
Y'all are greedy and expect way more than can be reasonably done in a short amount of time, stop it.
#people are getting frustrated with each other but none of this is really the Point#i am frustrated with 1.3 because of how they're delivering the story#it's rushed for one#but the reason they're rushing it is not because the players are bullying the devs into doing more than they can handle#it's because the devs want to drip feed players to keep them on board for the long haul#and that's a flawed method#i think Genshin has figured it out a bit better than star rail#with main story over three patches#then a stretch of five patches with events & new areas & standalone quests#but the new areas really carry genshin and hsr can't rely on thar

spent a good chunk of time looking through the illustrated pvs (the ones that have genshin's flat illustration style, idk if they have a unified name) and it turns out that the perilous trail cutscene, where xiao tries to sacrifice himself to save the group, its theme (hanging by a thread) was already hinted at in the very first yaksha intro we got (tale of the yaksha), back in xiao's story quest
youtube
youtube
(youtube links bc I guess tumblr doesn't show timestamps on mp3s anymore ..)
I can't pick out other specific times where the two match up, although there are definitely several more; but if you play 0:29 in tale of the yaksha and 0:39 in hanging by a thread, they follow almost the exact same melody for about 30 seconds. they overlap again at 0:57-0:58 in tale of the yaksha and 2:22 in hanging by a thread for another 30 sec until the end of the tale of the yaksha
literally so insane. an entire patch later, after 1 year, the yaksha music that only appears in a story quest pv gets called back for a quest centered on them and xiao. the writers are op for this
#thats INSANE!!! i love it#same vibes as the callback to the travail trailer in lyney's character trailer with him and lynette#theyre so real for this i love when writers remember and bring back their old stuff to build on it#xiao#teyvat thoughts#genshin impact#perilous trail#genshin xiao#Youtube

Mostly finished the Wuwa 1.2 festival event, largely in one go.
I have minor nitpicks but tbh I liked it quite a bit? This is kind of annoying angle to take, but I think it's actually better than any of Genshin's festivals (that I actually paid attention to).
I don't passionately love Jinzhou, but I like it well enough. I'm an easy sell on emotional appeals in general, so I like the welfare girl squad, I like Jinzhou's NPCs and the Midnight Rangers, I like Jiyan even though he's boring, and I was quite fine with the other characters too. So seeing everyone happy, having fun, looking forward to the future was very nice. I think the little stall quests were cute enough, the NPC sections were fine and consistent with Wuwa's overall themes, and the Xiangli Yao storyline was like... better that at minimum 95% of Genshin's story quests. The guy actually emoted at the climax!
Overall, it wasn't quite enough to be called amazing, but it was pretty enjoyable. (I still have to finish getting popularity, but I doubt there's much story behind that.)
Small notes:
Leaks are saying that 1.3 will be Black Shores related and then 1.4 will the be last 1.x patch, followed by 2.0. This is starting to look more plausible after this event. There's several mentions about how Jinzhou is now going to be at peace because we stopped the Threnodian's awakening, which has a very "time to move on to the next plot" feeling.
Additionally, we have a few namedrops of the next Sentinel, Hsin. A fox, apparently. They are definitely starting to gear up to move on.
I like that you can interact with the fireworks to set them off. I love being able to press F to interact. There's also a bigger firework on the fortune stick terrace, which looks very nice.
I also love buying stuff in game. I bought all the recipes I could already. But I am disappointed that the firecrackers will disappear after the event period. Let me keep them?? (Also, let me buy a fan?? This is just rude teasing.)
I'm fine with the stall management minigame, but I kind of wish there were a few more. Like a more extensive shooting or gulpuff minigame.
Initially, I was going to say that Taoyuan village has too few decorations compared to Liyue at Lantern Rite, but it fills up as you build the stalls. It's pretty lively by the end.
There are some stalls you need to interact with daily. The fortune sticks give you an actual buff (I got increased echo drop rate today), the riddle and lottery give prizes. You can also get more of the request coupons daily.
It's kind of a hassle that you need funds to run the requests but you also use funds to do the stall upgrades. This means if you rush to do an upgrade right after you get enough funds for it (which makes an exclamation mark appear, btw), you'll end up with not enough funds to run the high tier requests. The requests don't even use the funds, you just need to have them.
The game crashed on the final cinematic, though I think I only missed the group selfie at the end. lmao, honestly
Just on a personal note, I appreciate that Pascar wasn't crazy and that his research meaningfully contributed to the world. I was almost expecting some kind of rugpull that would undercut the moment, but it really was just a good, hopeful thing. Although this is just circumstantial, he also contrasts well with Geshu Lin, who had a surface similarity in his "my goals at any cost" approach to what Pascar is initially presented as.
But dang, Wuwa faces are so pretty. The models really do look so good.
I can't believe I have to wait two more weeks to get this man. CRIMINAL
Does anyone have the welfare girl squad selfie? I missed snapshotting it...

i might be alone in this opinion, but i wish leaks weren't so common place bc sometimes i do want to be surprised about something instead of having it spoiled for me
oh no no you're most definitely not alone in that opinion buddy. it has been a bit of an irk lately for genshin fans that at this point even ARCHON QUESTS can be leaked (from context to full on dialogues like). i myself were really flabbergasted when the the first leak the 1.0 playerbase got was a render sheet about different characters who we had no idea about.
and i'm usually a person who doesn't mind leaks or spoilers of any kind - but there's something about the quantity of leaks that comes forth from both genshin and star rail that does irritate me just because of the sheer amount that gets handed out on a silver platter. a silver platter most didn't ask for, but gladly eats up. i understand someone's point of wanting to know who comes next to save up or so to say, be "safe"-
but star rail already implemented that saving factor by giving us the next patch banners that comes AFTER an upcoming patch update (i don't know how to explain this in an easy way, but literally Huo Huo and Argenti for 1.5 when we about to go into 1.4 with Jingliu and Topaz who we were informed about a couple of weeks into patch 1.3) that's already generous enough because even genshin don't be doing that - the leaks be doing that for them.
i mean, star rail leakers has already datamined like at least 8 upcoming characters at this point (i don't even know if im exaggerating that number) all from their designs, names to possible path too
but again, to each their own. some like that reassurance while others hate it. in my humble opinion though, both of these games would be a lot more hyped up and have a more excited reaction if we had zero idea who would come next.
#narus' message corner#anon#taking a note from another gacha rhythm game i play#ensemble stars! the player base absolutely loathes any idea of a leak or possible leak#that even if someone were to leak something no one would be happy#they would outright be furious that the element of surprise were literally snagged away

ok i played the new story update in hsr and here are my thoughts
warning: it's kinda negative
first things first: yeah i know this isn't the end of the xianzhou story, there are six ships after all and i guess luofu is supposed to be like the opening act to a bigger conflict with the aeons but m a n the execution was not good
the 1.3 story is more like an epilogue, which is fine, but it really should have been added to the previous patch. tbh the luofu story didn't need to be stretched over three patches with its overall length
i feel like everything went wrong when they decided to make the dan shu quests optional instead. i feel like they had to scrap a lot of stuff because of that? i agree that the dan shu quests felt out of place but they could have moved it around instead of just cutting them out of the main storyline. It's fully voiced after all and it has interesting lore
the problem is that the writers wanted to incorporate so many concepts but didn't want to (or can't) increase the length of the story. There are so much stuff going on like the conflict between Lan and Yaoshi, the bad side to immortality, the vidyadhara politics, the stellaron and the lord ravager, the sanctus medicus, dan heng & dan feng, dan heng and blade, the stellaron hunters, the high-cloud quintet, luocha, but all of these things only get brief moments of spotlight before we move on to something else. it makes everything feel kind of inconsequential and confusing
Especially the dan heng il thing which really should have been the main point of the story. his transformation is cool but it also feels random. the opening cutscene with blade also comes off as baffling in retrospect bc he didn't really do or explain anything??
i think they tried to rectify this by making the companion quests (like yanqing's and dhil's) basically main quests but they only raise more questions that may or may not get a definite answer. also these quests are optional
the ending is so abrupt, but they still try to tease continuations (see: jingliu and luocha cutscene at the end) even though we're leaving?? and who knows when these threads will get picked up again
Another problem i have: the vagueness of the lore and story. We finally know what dan feng's sin is...kind of. We maybe kind of know what happened to baiheng. tingyun's dead...or is she??? the writers love teasing resolutions instead of giving them, and it's honestly annoying. And im saying this as a genshin lore fan who loves finding random readables and trying to piece together what happened
The high-cloud quintet: ok this might be an unpopular opinion but i don't really care about them. maybe it's just my inherent dislike for the trope of "super elite group full of hot people who have a lot of history with each other and they feel sad about it :(" but they are just not doing anything for me right now. I like them all individually but as a group? meh. Part of the problem is that their lore is scattered all over the place and is very vague, so you really have to read between the lines and speculate in order to get their story, which requires a certain amount of investment from the start. i repeat that im a genshin lore player, but the thing about genshin lore is that it's not needed to understand the main story most of the time. Important stuff about the characters, on the other hand? tbh i care way more about spina di rosula trio or the narzissenkreuz people, and most of those people are npcs (faceless even)
honestly high-cloud quintet deserved a world quest chain or something instead of just (a very nice) animated short. as it is now i don't know why we would ever revisit them in the future considering dan heng doesn't want anything to do with them. maybe a rematch with blade?
tldr xianzhou had a lot of cool ideas but the execution was bad. oh well at least it had jing yuan

I have to remind myself to make sure I dont give in to pulling Seele bc I saw leaks of who’s on the limited banners for the next couple Star Rail patches
I want Loucha for sure, and then Jing Yuan though his release hasn’t been leaked yet. I have a guarantee at 70 pity (early Welt @20 pulls) with 15 tickets current saved up.
If i keep saving for the rest of the patch, I should probably have enough to guarantee another 5* (another 60 pulls) from leveling up, exploring, quests and the equivalent to genshin’s abyss. Then I pull for Loucha, skip patch 1.2, potentially pull in 1.3 and then keep an eye for future banner leaks.
God why did this game have to be released when I’m almost at finals week. At least I got a break from waiting for the 2nd half of 2.6 for Genshin so I can finally pull for Baizhu (last character banner I pulled was for Yaoyao in January, but I’ve been pulling weapons since then lol)
EDIT; APPARENTLY JING YUAN IS AFTER SEELE OK YEAH I’M SAVING LOL
#desiree talks#desiree plays#honkai star rail#i do want kalfka bc i like her burst#but… i’ll skip her#i have 3 5*s now! yanquig as my guaranteed from the beginners banner#early 50/50 loss to welt on seele’s banner and then i got clara at pity on the permanent banner#i’m still missing the 4* xianzhou chicken and fox girl though#like i want seele for being quantum but i guess i can just figure out how to qingque works#and then continue to invest into her

curious as to what you have to say about the new lantern rite trailer .......
(other thoughts which were not articulated in this screenshot were "hey remember how the speculated reason for why they had three character banners during 1.3 was bc they didn't want to release hu tao, a funeral director, during lunar new year bc it would be bad luck?" and "of COURSE they finally decide to explore hu tao a bit more during this patch cycle, since death is inescapable in natlan thanks to the ode of resurrection")
dumping the rest under a cut lol
obvs VERY excited to learn more abt the rituals surrounding death and the afterlife in genshin bc um i <3 themes grief and mourning in fiction, but also bc it makes me curious abt what this will reflect abt the lore in natlan, esp since lunar new year (n thus lantern rite, by extension) falling in the later half of the patch suggests to me that they expect players to complete the natlan aq finale before experiencing this year's lantern rite.
hu tao is a character whose arc has always been very clear to me by nature of, like, an interest in gore and morbid things maturing into an interest in grief and death (which was very much helped along by that one college english class i took which was themed around the death industry and the ask a mortician youtube channel (which i had already been watching for like a year prior to taking that class. btw)), so i'm very keen on the serious expansion of her character and showcasing the part of her who does understand the weight of death and mourning and the roles these things play in our sense of humanity.
i've also been holding for a while now that natlan's true ideal is likely closer to that of "hope" than of "war" (and that the writers just kind of painted themselves into a corner n had to run with what they said earlier on), but the immolation of the main lantern in the trailer (seemingly as part of this year's lantern lighting ceremony) does also remind me of the fact that funerals do often have flames bc of like, funeral pyres and cremation. like, hu tao's pyro vision felt like it fell a lot more into place once we started exploring natlan n death became a part of the major story
and i don't think this conflicts with my assertion of "hope" being at the core of natlan, bc i think a clearer way of articulating myself would actually be that natlan structures its nation and its culture around "war", which at its center holds "hope" as its purpose (similar to how fontaine is the nation of "justice", but held an exploration of "truth" at the core of its story) and in turn allows for the exploration of other facets of war and conflict
though at the same time, positing that natlan revolves around hope (which keeps the sacred flame, That Thing Which Revives Characters After Death, alive n stuff) when you're only revived after battle if your team wins is kind of interesting to think abt when mulling over this intersection of hope and war, bc isn't the point of hope that it's able to keep going, to continue to produce miracles, even beyond the point of rationality, which is why you should never give up on it (citation: every classical magical girl show ever)? but at the same time, it is true that you can put too much faith and stock into something that was doomed to fail, and the culmination of that failure can shock you into losing hope for a while, or lead you to never attempt that again, even if the next time you encounter a situation like that, you're much more capable and prepared...
anyway this isn't so much abt lantern rite itself anymore as it is just abt the 5.3 version trailer but i do like that the final boss of natlan is just this giant fuckoff dragon with not one, but TWO swords, and also is just an impersonation made of darkness of the pyro sovereign, which would otherwise be the embodiment of fire (and therefore unavoidably light, to at least some extent). i'll have to poke around and review the lore surrounding the pyro sovereign in-game to make any real claims here, but the fact that the trailer has him talking abt using "the power of darkness" to "prove [our] efforts futile" and that "you [mavuika] have destroyed this world's hope with your own hands" is very cool very much looking forward to the contrasts btwn light and darkness, hope and despair (or should i perhaps say futility?) next patch. speaking of light and darkness, i do also remember the version livestream for enkanomiya release when the devs talked abt how they designed the area with the intent of exploring the contrasts btwn light and darkness in mind, but that's really digressing now lol
returning to the lantern rite thing, i also think that xiao would make for a good choice for one of the core characters in the plotline because of the fact that he also deals in death, he's been having this thing abt allowing himself to remember his dead comrades alongside his arc where he learns how to live... it's very fun to see this question of, "who are you still living for? the dead? or the living?" perhaps reflect on the turning point he had back in the chasm in the version story
and anyway, if lantern rite doesn't expand on all that shit through at least the very easy connection to the new year --> symbol of renewal and fresh starts, then i will be sad and perhaps send dawei ge a strongly worded letter.
#asks#anonymous#also lan yan is cute but since she's from chenyu i do sort of wish they localized her name to canto like w/gaaming#laam jin you will always be in my heart but also w/that said i hope she interacts w/cloud retainer#this reply is all over the place godbless

Mind you, I've been playing genshin since version 1.3. I was there for all the boring patches, but none of them were ever as dull as Natlan. I had more interest in the game during Ayaka's 240 day-long banner than I do now, when we're spoon fed with Capitano and abyss lore and whatnot. It's ridiculous
The only way I could be tempted into playing genshin is if hoyoverse dropped another Sumeru expansion but that's not going to happen so. No genshin for now
#yeah. maybe i'm burnt out too#i think i am. but i know i'm not alone in this and that many people agree natlan has been the most boring region so far#i genuinely don't know when i'll get my love for genshin back#hopefully snezhnaya won't disappoint#because i need to see dottore again

Sorry for not posting here recently! As I said in a post before, I’ve just been feeling huge burnt out from most creative things and tired from trying to get a job, and the most I’ve been doing outside of adult life is play Genshin fdxfhbdf Thank you though to those of you who stick around, and to those of you reblogging my older things while I’m away
But today I woke up with a lot of pent up energy, and I knew I had to get it out with something! So I guess this is technically ve/nt art? Not sure, but it’s, of course (since I’m Genshin trash now-), loosely based on the upcoming event in the 1.3 patch of Genshin, the Lantern Rite! I say loosely cause I didn’t feel like drawing Liyue Harbor and Dragonspine is greatly simplified, but the inspirations are there
Not meant to be anything amazing, just had some fun doing some digital painting with a mouse,, (Might make it into a puzzle on Redbubble-)

teyvat, freedom, barbara, sakura blooms and ganyu for the genshin ask! 😎
A genshin ask meme redux
teyvat: which released region do you prefer and which unreleased nation are you most looking forward to visiting?
Mondstadt is definitely my favorite region!! I like every region we’ve gotten so far in at least some capacity, but I go to Mondstadt for everything - crafting, cooking, forging, finishing commissions, sending charas out on expeditions etc! It has such a homey vibe that I’m just about always over there even if it’s pretty empty nowadays :’) If we’re being even more specific tho, my favorite area is Dragonspine! There’s no place that’s prettier or more calming to me, and I know where every single thing is located on that mountain <3 (not even kidding tbh, I always help people with Dragonspine bc I remember where every fire place, chest, quest location etc is!)
As for unreleased regions, Khaenri’ah!! I'd love to know more about their technology and about Dainsleif, but my main focus is finding out more about Gold / Rhinedottir and her creations! Also what IS the truth of this world bestie, don’t leave us in suspense like this
freedom: if you were blessed with a vision, which one would you want to have (and which one do you think you’d actually get)?
My favorite element is anemo, and imo it’s also the most fun, so I’d love to have an anemo vision w/o the implications that’d come with it (coughs. every anemo user has lost someone dear to them and I’d really rather not), but I’m 100% sure that if I were to get one, it’d be a cryo vision! Both based on gut feeling and reddit posts like this one.
barbara: you’re a tourist traveling teyvat, which locations in the game would you want to visit in person?
DRAGONSPINE, every inch of it. Doesn’t even matter if I’d be freezing to death, I’d go there first and foremost anyway! Then I’d love to visit the main cities in every region, and I’d probably spend most of my time in Mondstadt and Sumeru.
For Mond I’d love to visit Starfell Lake, Windrise, Dawn Winery and Stormterror’s Lair; for Liyue I’d love to visit Wangshu Inn, Qingce Village and Luhua Pool; for Inazuma I’d love to visit Chinju Forest, the Grand Narukami Shrine and Tsurumi Island; and for Sumeru I’d love to visit Avidya Forest (and Gandharva Ville), Vimara Village, Pardis Dhyai, Lokapala Jungle only if I had someone escorting me, Aaru Village and the Mausoleum of King Deshret!
sakura blooms: what is/are your favorite world quest(s) you’ve done?
Basically any of Dragonspine’s world quests (In the Mountains, Lost in the Snow, A Land Entombed, The Great Mountain Surveys, The Festering Fang), Bough Keeper Dainsleif, Aranyaka, Golden Slumber, Lost in a Foreign Land, A Company Vanishing into the Deep, Hyperion’s Dirge and Through the Mists! I love lore-heavy world quests the most :’) even though some most of them are tragic
ganyu: which character’s rerun are you waiting for desperately?
ALBEDO’S!! I have him at C5 right now and I’ve been wanting to have him at C6 so badly since I first started playing Genshin nearly 2 years ago (bc he’s my favorite chara & the only reason I’m playing really) and I’m finally!! accomplishing that goal!! after so long!! Once I get his last constellation tho, I’d love a Cyno rerun since I ended up skipping him during this patch for Albedo, a Xiao rerun bc this guy has somehow always managed to dodge me ever since 1.3, and a Kokomi rerun bc her banners were always up at a bad time for me but I’d love to have her as my healer!

People hyping tower of fantasy as the genshin killers are hilarious.
Genshin and ToF are 2 completely different genre of game. People that want a mmo experience with waifu will like ToF, those who like more action rpg singleplayer will keep playing genshin.
“Hope ToF capitalize on the launch and give decent events at a good pace not like genshin”
my brother in christ, 1.1 had already a better event from 1.0 and mihoyo got the memo and every patch was good. Yes we had a stagnation in 1.3-1.5 but mihoyo learnt its lesson and now every 6 weeks we get events and quests and lore and something new to explore
(that’s because y’all speedran the game instead of exploring like casual human that game for funs and mihoyo had to stop release everything together or you would just...do it day 1 even if it was meant to be a 6 months worth of stuff)
ANYWAY
I don’t think that stamina locked dungeons and raids are more end game content that spiral abyss every 2 weeks. But that’s me.
#martina talks#not to mention everyone says that in CN tof already flopped and that powercreep already happened
