It's more than just the worn sofa cushions and matching silverware sets. Any asshole can paint their clapboard baby blue and retrofit a gas cooktop into the kitchen, just like any asshole can stash a go bag beneath hardwood floors — having stuff doesn't make a home. Not that Bucky has any way to know that, having always had fewer personal belongings than fingers on both hands. But he suspects that if the Wilson family found themselves transplanted into Bucky's Brooklyn shithole, that dump would become a home quicker than blinking.

Sam!- i didn’t know you had tumblr 2! :O
I DO!!! Hello!! I also have a bluesky! Since people were moving over there from twitter, I made one in case twitter actually started crashing down and everyone was removing themselves from twitter!
Tumblr media
I mainly shitpost about Ninjago on twitter, which I use to do on here as well but then I eventually got lazy 😭

Today I found out that apparently, even LinkedIn, a professional platform expected to contain people's personal information, is using our data to train generative AI models, and one has to specifically opt-out if they don't want their data to be harvested by AI. This change is effective from November 20th in all regions except the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
If you don't want your data to be used to train AI models, consider opting out by going to Settings -> Data Privacy -> Data for Generative AI improvement -> Toggle switch to "Off"

cohost has been a strong alternative to get away from ai scraping. they have no ads, no scraping, and a very similar layout to tumblr (with reblogging, tagging, replying, asks, etc).
so far its felt very much like being on tumblr without the toxicity. the biggest loss is that they dont have statistics- but its nice. it makes it feel cozier, and like the people interacting with your content matter more. ive really been enjoying it.
its worth a shot, anyway!
Thanks for the advice, I’ll do some more digging to see if cohost could be an alternative
I’ve seen other people talk about going to Bluesky and tbh while jumping ship feels like a pretty good plan, I’ve been on Tumblr actively for a little over a year now and I don’t think I really have the energy to try and rebuild on a different platform right now. I’ve already gone through a lot of my art and Nightshaded it, so I’ll definitely keep doing that.
Overall, I’m not really sure what my plan is, even after sleeping on it. I’m still really miserable and frustrated after hearing about this bs. What I might do is keep posting art, but heavily nightshade it and maybe glaze it too for good measure. I’ll probably also stop posting WIPs/previews as frequently. Not really sure. Again, all of this is really frustrating and I can’t think of what the future holds for me in terms of sharing my work without feeling miserable.

You've spoken of IP concerns as the major practical barrier to generative AI use in the final product of a game. Steam seems to be about to become more open to games using these tools. What does this say about the industry's risk assessments?
Tumblr media
I believe that Valve has determined they are ready and able to deflect any (current) legal liabilities onto an offending game's developers and off of themselves. Most of these devs are likely going to be similar to the AI-supported youtube content farms that regularly violate copyright but make money by having hundreds of channels all regurgitating videos such that it becomes difficult to copyright strike them all.
Tumblr media
I also think that this decision will result in a wave of AI-supported shovelware and asset flips. Think about all of the RPGMaker games and Unity-type asset flips that are pervasive on Steam and just imagine more of those with AI-generated assets and such. I don't think the vast majority of these games will be any good, but they will certainly be plentiful since there's a much lower bar to make them.

It's again that time of the week where I have to go and report the spam and/or porn bots from the tags I follow because every time I see one of their posts on my dashboard I die inside a little bit
