Viktor Nikiforov, genderfluidity, and the gendered conventions of Russian language

I've always headcanon-ed that Viktor identifies as genderfluid, and playing around with this concept has been one of my favorite parts of my post-canon, married Viktuuri series, "Gold's On The Inside, Elevated My Feet", which you can read here if you'd like to immerse yourself in a very long (currently 191K) WIP/larger series. I'm currently working on a multichapter story (probably will be anywhere from 1-3 chapters) that focuses on his decision to come out publicly, and it's made me think about the inherently gendered way that Russian language works.

One thing that I like to have fun with in my writing is deliberately having Yuuri and Viktor say 'fuck that' to grammar conventions in Russian and just use whatever pet names/endearments they want, regardless of if they are 'male' or 'female' gendered. As an aside, I find it convenient that 'zolotsye' (meaning 'my gold') is gender-neutral. It's sent me down a rabbit hole of research around what options are available to genderfluid folks who speak/use Russian. As one might guess, they are limited :(

Anyways, just wanted to post this to ask if folks have any favorite Viktor/gender non-conformity stories they can recommend? I would love to see more of it in the fandom (hence, my excitement to post my work when it's done).

Is Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury the first anime series to depict a married same-sex couple?

Given the rings and comments from the staff (excluding Bandai) it's pretty clear that both Suletta and Miorine are married. And looking at older anime couples I can't find another one where the characters are actually married to one another.

There are series that depict engagements and proposals (implied or otherwise with queer characters).

Some examples would be:

Yuri & Viktor from Yuri on Ice, where it's implied that they want to be engaged.

Ranma & Akane from Ranma 1/2, both find themselves in an arranged engagement but end up falling for each other anyway. Ranma is canonically genderfluid in both the anime and manga and Akane is attracted to Ranma as both a man and a woman. And this is ignoring all of Ranma's other fiances who know about their curse and want to be in a relationship with them anyway.

Utena & Anthy from Revolutionary Girl Utena, while the circumstances of their engagement are out of their control, the two of them fall deeply in love with one another despite that. And in the movie they kiss.

Other LGBT anime couples are together or in love but next explicitly depicted as engaged or married would be:

Michiru Tenou & Haruka Kaiou from Sailor Moon, they are very much together and in the Crystal series end up living together and adopting a baby.

Yukito Tsukishiro & Touya Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura, who are in love with one another.

Eiji Okumura & Ash Lynx from Banana Fish, who are in love with one another. And it hurts.

Yuu Koito & Touko Nanami from Bloom Into You, who are two girls who fall in love with one another. And in the story you watch them grow and get closer.

Nezumi & Shion from No. 6, a sci-fi drama where two boys fall in love. This one also hurts.

And countless other examples, none of which I could find have the characters taking their relationship further than dating or engagement.

So, is Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury the first married same-sex couple in anime?

On a minor note, there have been several gay weddings depicted in manga.

Some examples would be:

Our Dreams At Dusk by Yuhki Kamatani, which was written by an asexual, X-gender author.

Until I Meet My Husband by Ryousuke Nanasaki and illustrated by Yoshi Tsukizuki. This manga was written by a gay man and based on his own essays about his life. The manga is auto-biographical.

I Married My Best Friend To Shut My Parents Up by Kodama Naoko, who has written several other LGBT manga, most of which are Yuri.

And there are several more!

It's probably been said before but I really dislike how much suffering Klaus goes through throughout the entire series. Like, all of the Hargreeves kids get their fair share of angst. But it means something. When Allison loses her family, it fuels her actions in season three. When Luther finds out Reggie was disgusted by him or Sloane dies or he dies, it's to expand on his character and deconstruct the archetypes he originally fit into it. When Viktor. It Means something for the overall plot.

I feel like all of Klaus' suffering was just supposed to be comedic relief. Which. I feel like is in really bad taste considering his angst deals with things like substance abuse and self harm and sexual assault. ESPECIALLY in season four. At least all the other Klaus Gets Beat Up arcs somehow related back to the main plot or Klaus as a character. But his entire story during season four was just more pointless suffering.

And I especially hate this considering Klaus was meant to be the only out and proud queer character in the entire show. Viktor only transitioned because his actor transitioned. That wasn't in the original plan. Klaus is a pansexual genderfluid person who's suffering is passed off as comedy.

Klaus, my baby. I love you so much. Please let me take you out of this show and put you somewhere else.

Keellai's lore for my Arcane AU

So some people have shown interest in my Arcane oc so I might as well write a quick text post about what I got so far:

Keellai began as an experiment, his father wanted to create life with the Arcane, combining biology with magic. His father worked at the academy at the time as a biology professor and as the council heard about this they sought him out, asking if Keellai could possibly be made as a useful tool, a living weapon of sorts.

Keellai's father accepted and he got the neccessary funding to continue his research. He combined his DNA together with the Arcane and after a few failed attempts as he was getting the numbers right Keellai was made. He was supposed to be born without emotions, you know easier to control and all that, but something happened and that didn't happen.

Anyway later in the story someone finds out about the experiment from the outside so the council being the council tries to save their own asses from controversy and begins painting Keellai's father in a bad light, spreading lies and rumors and ultimately get him exiled from Piltover.

His father moves to Zaun together with Keellai and as throughout the years he grows more hateful and spiteful to the point he begins experimenting on himself, changing himself to be more machine than man and he takes a lot of this anger out on his son, who he doesn't see as a person but rather as "a tool that is meant to be used." Keellai is also kept in a small as fuck room until he is "useful".

Now when does he and Viktor meet each other? Currently in my AU they meet around the time in Viktor's flashback just as Sky leaves, Keellai has just gotten out of his father's lab and he falls down that cliff face that we see behind where Viktor is sitting (dw he gets better lmao).

They end up bonding and over time they start dating (I would say a few years before Viktor leaves for the academy). When Viktor leaves for the academy he fails to tell Keellai so they end up not seeing each for 10-ish years or so (I would say around act 1 is when they reunite).

Some Keellai facts:

He was born with albinism.

His forearms are made of crystal, think like those smooth hex crystals, you can see through them and see his skeleton.

Can shapeshift among other things!

Due to multiple TBI (Traumatic Brain Injuries) one of his pupils tend to stay bigger than the other.

He identifies as genderfluid and doesn't mind people using any pronouns aside from it/its for personal reasons relating to objectification and dehumanization, he does tend to use he/him the most however.

Pan- and demiromantic.

Viktor is the one who gave him his name seeing as his father never gave him one (again as a control tactic to dehumanize and objectify him).

A massive people pleaser, almost to an extreme degree.

Is a pretty great engineer! He loves to create, especially stuff that helps people.

Thought i should make an introduction post.. you know after having this account for eight months... Anyway!

Hi I'm finn/viktor! I'm a transmasc and I'm genderfluid, floating somewhere on the aro/ace spectrum however i am in fact in a relationship. Not weird at all! Altho, I'm not sure if I'm the best person to answer this since I don't have much trans experience and I don't have many trans friends (yet) is genderfluid considered trans?

But from how I've written him so far, from Still Grey and The Horror, I don't usually use pronouns on him when talking about the past or in flashbacks. And in the event that I do, it's usually still with a he/him.

Personally, I think Viktor would just say when referring to his pre-transition self as "the old me" or "younger me", cuz ya know, that was younger / past him. I don't think anyone really thinks that hard about explaining their past about transitioning.

Altho, in the event that he is talking to someone close about his past, I think he'd still say old me or past me. I guess it would be kinda weird to refer to himself as a girl even if he was one before. Cuz like ya know, we don't even use deadnames anymore, so why refer to yourself as a girl? Just say past me or younger me.

But this is a personal opinion tho! This is how I see Viktor and how I write him. Peeps who read my fics haven't really seen the way I write him yet(in an in-depth more screen time way), but this is how I see him and write him.

Post-canon Viktuuri intimacy: my love of writing the most tender filth imaginable

I think I'll always love writing post-canon Viktuuri smut, because in my fluffy little head, Yuuri and Viktor have the most filthy yet tender sex imaginable. It's particularly fun to write about their kink life, imagining what a few years' experience of unraveling Viktor time and time again might do for Yuuri's confidence...

If you've read my work before, I imagine you know I love writing Dom Yuuri. The most recent chapter of my married Viktuuri 2018/2022 Olympic Games fic -- Chapter 17, meaning there are only 4 chapters left until the end of part 1! -- features a pretty lengthy sex scene, and given the heightened emotionality of this particular day (i.e. the one right before Yuuri's last ever competitive skate), it was really fun to write.

It also includes mention of one of my favorite headcanons in the overall 300K+ word fic series: that Yuuri is not only a talented athlete, but singer as well. In fact, since gaining confidence in his skating as well as his relationship with Viktor, it's long been a dream of his to skate to his own music one day in competition. He finally does so in his last ever competitive season, which culminates with the Bejing 2022 Olympic Games.

Below is an excerpt from this most recent chapter, which I hope piques your interest in checking out this story or my other YOI works (which are basically all explicit...lol, what can I say?).

Given Yuuri's impressive stamina, Viktor decided to help things along by beginning to twist her wrist and pulled off for a few seconds so that she could administer a few full strokes.

“I love making you feel good…that’s all I ever want to do,” she whispered, glad when her husband opened his eyes so that they were looking at one another. “You deserve it, you were so beautiful yesterday. And not only your skating, but your singing, too.”

Her eyes actually grew wet when she said the words, but she knew Yuuri would understand the sudden onslaught of emotion.

Viktor had been hearing ‘Gold’ all season long, but never in a million years would she have guessed that Yuuri had recorded a surprise version of it: one that featured his own lead vocals instead of Yukimi’s. Though her love had skated to the sound of his own voice before (at the 2018 World Championships, in a tribute during her last competition), this was the first instance in which Yuuri had skated to a song of his own creation.

It had long been a dream of his to do so, and Viktor hadn’t even really been able to pay attention to the first thirty seconds of Yuuri’s performance yesterday, what with the way she’d broken down, sobbing. Her uninhibited reaction had been the subject of quite a lot of memes, but she couldn’t bring herself to feel even the slightest bit embarrassed. She hadn’t even realized that she’d grabbed Phichit’s sweaty arm – he had literally just come off of the ice after his own stellar performance – and had been grateful that he hadn’t minded when she’d begun to blubber all over him (then again, Phichit had cried a bit, too).

It spoke volumes about their relationship that even with the very wanton activities they were currently engaged in, a distinct softness entered Yuuri’s beautiful, gold-flecked and chestnut colored gaze.

“I could never have done it, if not for you watching me, Viten’ka,” he whispered, bringing his forehead slightly down to meet her own. “I’m so happy I got to surprise you like that.”

Viktor was proud that even as her vision grew blurry, she managed to keep up her ministrations. She giggled quietly at the sweet way her spouse kissed at some of the tears that spilled over, but the sudden heightened emotion receded, replaced with the earlier eroticism when she gave a particularly deft twist of her wrist.

“FUCK!”

She recomposed herself, bringing her mouth back down and attempting to fit the entirety of Yuuri’s dick inside. When it hit the back of her throat, she hummed, satisfied at the second loud thunk! that resounded.
