I promised myself I would always be honest when it came to reviews, etc. 

I have to say I am so disappointed in where Ipsy has come now. Ever since Michelle Phan left the company, it’s been a steady sinking ship of disappointment and poor customer service. 

I’ve been a subscriber since the inception of My Glam Bag, before it was even called Ipsy. I’ve always loved it, and I still love the idea of it. $10 a month and you get to try all kinds of products. It seems like an easy win, and it helps me find new products or saves me from buying a full-sized mystery product. 

My complaint comes firstly with the My Glam Bag Plus, but also continues into GenBeauty. With the MGB Plus, you would think members like me that have been loyal from the beginning, would have first invites or something. But no. And on top of that, there’s some sign up list that Ipsy did not even announce. On top of this, I have contacted Ipsy on social media before regarding this, and was basically told to just wait. 

This frustration is compounded with how terrible GenBeauty went last year in comparison to previous years. The take home bags were reduced from one per day to one. period. And most of the bag space was occupied by Wen, which has been proven to cause people’s hair to fall out. Way to go Ipsy. They also decreased the number of luxury and Indie brands in the swag bags and in booths, but increased drug store brands. Also, many booths did not even offer any kind of sample or swag, which is a big part of us going. We want to see your stuff in action, and be able to use it in action. At the very least, have product to sell at a discount. One booth had no samples and no discounts on product. Why are you there? No one knows your brand yet. You’re not attracting customers that way. Not all my usual faves were there, but I made sure to hit up the top booths. It’s a tiring full two days. Everyone feels a certain way by the end of it all. But the overall experience was not as joyful as previous years. VERY disappointing. This is not even the worst of it. I had issues with purchasing tickets, and the CS response was basically oh well. Like how do you make tickets cheaper closer to the event than the early bird tickets. It was a complete slap in the face for loyal fans, yet again. 

Ipsy is slipping, and I don’t know if they’re going to come back. I hope they do. But, it seems more and more like a cash cow rather than a place for beauty lovers to get together and share their love of makeup and beauty products.
