Just got through Lover Pretend and I'm now working on Nightshade!

Lover Pretend started out good but almost all routes disappointed me if brutally honest, especially Kazuma's (top left). Childhood friends... Not enough pining...

They kinda fell flat, and I don't like getting yelled at by my men lol. Felt most satisfied by Sena's (top right) route I think, surprisingly - I hate flirty dudes lol. Asagi's (bottom left) was so short too??

Also what's up with Nishijima's route and just kinda going through the whole pretend fiancé "but what if I fall for you?" thing WHILE NOT SURE IF YOU'RE RELATED OR NOT. Geez. At least Sena's and Asagi's tackled that. Makito's (top mid) too, early on. Nishijima... (Bottom left)

Still, I'm a sucker for a good old 'fake relationship' trope.

As for Nightshade...epic ninja game! Kinda nervous about the 18 rating for violence but so far so good. How bad can sprite art get? Or the occasional CG? Some words have made me wince though lol

I finished Goemon and Hanzo's routes today. The good endings, at least. Age differences (childhood friends with mc's mom??) are kinda very uncomfy in this game but otherwise, 10/10 so far. It's got me on the edge of my seat, can't tell whether stuff is supposed to go bad at times or if I messed up and am about to get a bad end lol.

Silly guys. So far I like them all, the age stuff just.. eh. Ok for me, not for main chara lol.

Also, next is Chojiro.... Mc's cousin... Hehe............ Yay... Hoping they aren't actually related but old timey stuff is wild sometimes

Anyway, the art's good too! Very different! Pretty boys :>

Also I love getting proposed to. Good endings <3

And sure thing! When it comes to otome, I tend to prefer games that are more plot focused and have strong overarching plots. I also enjoy darker/heavier content, i.e. action, violence and blood, psychological elements–which all sums up why I am so obsessed with Virche haha

But for my recs (which have English localizations):

1. Collar x Malice

I actually consider Collar x Malice my top favourite otome game! It’s a modern crime thriller with an interesting overarching plot, great cast, action, violence, and it makes you think about what justice means to you. It also has my fave otome antagonist of all time. I swear to god, he straight up altered my brain chemicals 😂 this whole game altered my brain chemicals because it made me fall in love with twisted, tragic “romance” (pls play the FD) and bittersweet “good” endings (there was only one like this, but oh man, it hurt me bad). This is the only game aside from Virche where I genuinely love all the LIs and thoroughly enjoyed all the routes. It has a special place in my heart and I definitely recommend it

2. Café Enchanté

Café Enchanté has the same main writer as Virche (and you can tell!!). It’s notorious for looking like a fluffy, slice-of-life from the cover, but once you get into the thick of the plot—OH BOY, the crazy revelations and pain hit hard 😂 I personally loved the drastic tonal shifts. Definitely recommend if you liked the type of writing in Virche

3. Code:Realize

I personally consider this the “objectively” best otome I’ve played so far. It might not be my personal top fave, but it’s the top game I recommend to anyone wanting to get into or play more otome. The plot, the lore, the world building, the characters, their interactions, the romance—it’s all so well developed and put together. It’s a popular one, and I agree it deserves the praise it receives

4. Nightshade

While it doesn’t have the deepest overall plot, I really enjoyed this game because of its strong characters and that it doesn’t shy away from tragedy. Characters who love each other have to fight each other, betray each other, and leave each other because that’s their way of life. All of them have to FIGHT for their happy ending, and most of the time, it comes with a heavy cost. Also, Gekkamaru’s one of my top fave LIs ever. Gekkamaru, if you’re out there… @ me 🤙

oh yup! played either 2018 or 2019, (cuz i checked discord where i recc the game to my friend) nightshade is memorable for me bcus of hanzo and his route tbh. i saved hanzo for last bcus the reviews raved about it and i didnt regret not following the rec route for plot thing.

chojiro route bored me so much that i almost stopped playing, goemon route is light hearted. ooo same! im mostly fond of kuroyuki bcus of his personality haha, yandere brrr, clingy guy brrrr ajsajbx.

gekkamaru route sjshwjd the main guy, the main route and where the plot really clicks. i can see why he gets saved for last. he's also good boi. so yes, hanzo or gekkamaru, either way its just so good!! i love hanzo route especially bcus of the heroine's development so if you like that, then time to buckle up haha. (p.s it doesnt help that hanzo's va is the legendary tsudaken HIS DEEP VOICE UUU) - 💭 anon

I just now also went to read up on a chat I had about Nightshade with a friend and it looks like it was the beginning of 2021 when I bought the game and then started it not too long after.

I wouldn't say I was bored with Chojiro's route because it was quite angsty but I didn't really like that he was not with us for like half of the route. I mean it makes sense but. Also like, the obvious thing that kind of put me off :/

I actually really enjoyed Goemon and I'm happy to see him every time he appears. Idk he just puts me in a good mood and his route actually wasn't too angsty so it was a good break from all the drama Chojiro's route had.

And of course, Kuroyuki how could I ever not talk about him! His is the first route I played in Nightshade and the first route I ever replayed. I just suddenly had the urge to play it again and we'll I'm just as in love as I was the first time around.

You better call me the number 1 Kuroyuki apologist😌✋

I just really love his personality and of course, the fact that he's a yandere certainly helps lmao But also I felt like his route was never boring, there was always something happening and his entire reason for being the way he is is really tragic. Now I'll feel really bad having to ignore him while persuing the remaining LIs 😭

And yeah, I really did hear so many good things about Hanzo so I'm very much looking forward to doing his route next!

And of course, the voice actors! All of them are really good! I'm not very good at recognizing VAs but I heard Goemon speak and was like. Wait a minute. That sounds like Eichi??

ekusu kurosu said that the burger isn't available, so it's released in 2018 and the year is 2024.

multi nanairo isn't aware of the nightmare king so she eats it, INSTANTLY regrets it.

maiden does not want to eat it, so she thinks it's a curse.

taisho gave a shot of this burger, but he does not have nightmares.

king manju tells shishimaru that he is aware of it, but dosen't know what this is.

toguro is immune to nightmares, he ate it in the first place.

cho pan cries while sleeping because yknow, she ATE it.

chrome is not aware of the nightmare king, so he ate it and had a dream of colbat drake breaking.
