In Gullah communities in Georgia, there’s an old practice we do called “settin ups” after a person dies. We know it today as a funeral wake, but in Gullah Culture we call them settin’ ups, and during settin ups it is traditional for the mourners to sing and pray with the body of the deceased all day long. During this sacred time, sandwiches or bread are served with coffee, and each mourner pours coffee on the ground as a libation in honor of the deceased.

I like the Perry Mattfeld of it all (an unexpected surprise!), but ehhhhh this whole Chad Powers thing - are we trying to pretend that Glen Powell can pass for a college student? I didn't watch the Eli Manning skit so I only vaguely know the premise of this show but it 100% sounds like something that would've aired on SPIKE TV in the 2000s. Once Steve Zahn got involved, Glen Powell should've pivoted to making a Captain Geech & The Shrimp Shack Shooters series instead. Give the people what they want!

in a previous post, you said the island should have been explored more and that it’s a character. How would you keep the treasure hunting aspect alive and fresh in a version of the show that doesn’t have them traveling as much?

explore more island mysteries! maybe even visit neighbouring islands on the banks like obx is considered a ship graveyard and the gullah geeche have such a rich culture even more trips to the mainland like the south/nc has a very rich history with lots of stories it wouldnt have been that hard tbh

Ok hi HELLO! Last week I was down in Savannah with the NEH (National Endowment for the Humanities) doing their Landmarks program to study the Gullah-Geeche people

These are souvenirs I have and I have a BUNCH more pictures to upload bc that was my commitment goal but listen. Savannah was gorgeous, I will definitely be back but they talk so much lmfaoooo

By the end of the week I was like if yall don't do this transaction without a conversation PLEASE just give me the coffee
