please try to sell me gw2. i really want to like it and ive tried a couple times over the years to get into it, but every time my experience is like: walk for 5 irl minutes -> talk to someone -> kill 20 things -> random world events -> kill 50 things -> go back and talk to the person. rinse and repeat
and then i uninstall the game
Hard to sell it to ya when it's free to play ;0
Tumblr media
As a new/returning player I honestly recommend going in with some friends. It's a game were you can absolutely solo PvE with the right build, but I always have more fun playing with my friends for the shenanigans. I also, 100%, recommend plopping an OC in the game. My first characters were both in-game and all their lore is based around GW2, but putting June in there has been hella fun to see how she would handle being in Tyria.
Your first 80 levels are basically to help get you accustom to the game mechanics and the story. Though the story is optional, I recommend playing it so you get more of a feel of Tyria and the history. The story also leads you through the game an the map rather than just taking random quests as you explore. It's really the only mode that gives you a bit of direction in the game.
If you happen to get stuck or have any questions about the game, it's pretty safe to ask the map chat and usually people will help you out, especially in early maps. GW2 is a game that doesn't really teach you how to play, you learn as you go. There's also plenty of YT vids on how to get started and tutorials if you get stuck or suggestions of things to try out as you level. They've also updated the game fairly recently where you now have access to the Raptor mount without needing to have Path of Fire or doing the expansion, which is a HUGE quality of life change while you explore the early maps.
Once your toon hits level 80, that's when you unlock your mastery tracks that will allow you to do more of the endgame content and continue through the living story. Fractals, Raids, Dungeons, Strikes, World Bosses, Meta Trains, Gold Farming, PvP, WvW, FASHION WARS!!, There's a ton to do once you're set up, and again, lots of resources available to help you out (TaCO, GW2 Efficiency, Crafting Guides).
The world is unique. It feels lived in and ever expanding. The lore for all the playable races in the game is really interesting and they do a lot to subvert expectations from typical fantasy stories. Some things are a hit or miss for a lot of folks but there's so much to love about the game even my least favorite parts are like just mid to me compared to the parts I genuinely enjoy. My favorite expansion is Path of Fire + Season 4. The desert maps are my favorites followed by Maguma (begrudgingly). Cantha had grown on me a lot after a million Leviathan Farms for gold lol. THE SEASONAL EVENTS AHHH like again there's just so much to touch on but yeah the long and short of it is it IS a time sink at minimum to get to the more favored content, but even as a old player I still love making new toons and taking them through the early game content again just for fun.
But yeah, free to play, no subscriptions, all expansions are a one time purchase. You've got 10 years worth of content to explore and try out. It's a relatively inexpensive MMO (the expacs can be up to 50% off during certain yearly sales). An overall very helpful community. Any paid content is mostly cosmetics and convenience items, but nothing that gives you an advantage over other players. Basically everyone is grinding towards a similar end-goal, so you can always get the same gear as people through grinding. Nothing is really out of reach and people are always willing to help others out with multiplayer content.
I've been consistently playing for 8-9 years now. It's one of those game where I'm IN it for like a few months then may take a few months off until a holiday event I love is coming up and then I play for a few months again. It's probably the only other game I've sunk as much time into as Pokemon or Skyrim over the years (I jokingly call it Skyrim Online since ya'll won't catch me playing ESO). But yeah just, it's a game I never expected to play for this long and this consistently and it always feels fun to pick back up. Genuinely I do hope you give it another try. I've honestly had the most fun I've had in years with the wave of new and returning players jumping back into the game c:

Unreal Engine: A revolution in the film industry
Introduction
Technological innovation has always been a part of the film industry, pushing the boundaries of what can be shown on screen. Storytelling has changed with each technological advancement, from silent films to the introduction of color and computer-generated imagery. One of the most important developments in recent years has been the introduction of real-time rendering engines, most notably the Unreal Engine. Originally developed for video games, the Unreal Engine has evolved into a groundbreaking tool that is changing the process of film production and merging the game and film industries.
This essay will critically examine how a game engine such as the Unreal Engine has become a game changer in the film industry. This essay will focus on the developments and early applications of Unreal in filmmaking and how it has the potential to further change the industry. I will also explain how Unreal has played a major role in some of the best CGI films and the long-term impact it has had on the film industry.
 Development
With the launch of the first-person shooter game Unreal in 1998, Epic Games introduced the Unreal Engine. Originally intended as a game engine, it gave programmers the ability to produce interactive gameplay and realistic 3D worlds. The Unreal Engine has been modified several times over the years, with each version bringing revolutionary improvements in lighting, physics, graphics and real-time rendering.
Unreal Engine 1 the Unreal Engine was developed by Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney for Unreal, which primarily uses CPU rendering, and was released in 1998. The engine was compatible with all operating systems and was used for the development of interactive games. The engine was used for the development of a first-person shooter called Unreal. The Unreal Engine was improved by the developers to maximize performance on low-end computers. Additional functions for the multiplayer mode were improved. The graphics were also improved to enable high-quality 24-bit textures without compromising efficiency.
Unreal Engine 2
With the switch from software rendering to hardware rendering [CPU-GPU], Unreal Engine 2 was introduced in 2002. America's Army, the first game developed with Unreal, won numerous awards, including the Computer Games Magazine Best Use of Tax Dollars Award and the IGN Biggest Surprise of the Year Award. The best and most improved aspects of this game are rooted in the development of the UNREAL ENGINE. Although Unreal Engine 2 is based on its predecessor, it features many significant improvements. It is possibly over 100 times more comprehensive than its predecessor. New features such as particle systems, a cinematic editing tool and a skeletal animation system have also been added. With Unreal Tournament 2004, the developers succeeded in implementing vehicle-based gameplay for the first time.
Unreal Engine 3
In 2006, this version of Unreal was released, which achieved significantly better visual results thanks to improved physics systems, sophisticated shaders and HDR (High Dynamic Range) lighting. Gears of War, the first game to be developed using this technology, achieved an astonishing score of 94. A major change compared to Unreal Engine 2 was that calculations were now performed per pixel instead of per vertex. Over time, developers added more and more features to the engine, such as improved destructible environments, crowd simulation, stereoscopic 3D, soft body dynamics, etc. In addition, the popularity of the engine skyrocketed. Unreal Engine 3 has been used to produce nearly 300 games, resulting in license agreements with major companies such as Activision, Capcom, Disney, Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, Atari and others.
Unreal Engine 4 With an endless array of capabilities, cutting-edge real-time rendering, and ground-breaking advancements that increase the possibilities for gameplay and visual storytelling, Unreal Engine 4 was introduced in 2014. More than 400 games were created with Unreal Engine 4, and the system was easier to use than any other version of the game engine.
Unreal Engine 5 Making the fifth edition of Unreal Engine a game-changer in the digital business took a considerable amount of time and effort from the development team. When Unreal Engine 5 was formally released in 2022, its incredible features completely astounded the creators. The feature that was most talked about was Nanite, a new and enhanced virtualized geometry system that came with Unreal Engine 5. Unlike the earlier Static Meshes, it creates "Nanite Meshes" by providing an internal format for imported meshes. High poly counts and pixel scale can be easily rendered with Nanite effortlessly

The Evolution of Sony PlayStation: A Legacy of Gaming Innovation
The Sony PlayStation has come a long way since its debut in 1994. This iconic gaming console has revolutionized the video game industry, creating experiences that have shaped gaming culture across generations. From groundbreaking graphics to immersive gameplay, Sony has continuously raised the bar with each new PlayStation model. In this blog post, we’ll explore the evolution of Sony PlayStation and how it has become one of the most influential gaming platforms in history.
The Beginning of Sony PlayStation
The journey of Sony PlayStation began in the early 1990s. Sony, a company known for its electronics, teamed up with Nintendo to create a CD-ROM add-on for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). However, their collaboration didn’t last long, and in 1991, Sony decided to break away from Nintendo. This led to the creation of the original PlayStation.
Released in Japan on December 3, 1994, the PlayStation was a revolutionary product that featured 3D graphics capabilities, a powerful CD-ROM drive, and a robust library of games. Unlike previous gaming consoles that used cartridges, PlayStation used CDs, allowing for larger game worlds and more detailed graphics. This move set PlayStation apart from its competitors, such as Sega’s Saturn and Nintendo 64.
Tumblr media
The PlayStation 2: The Best-Selling Console of All Time
In 2000, Sony released the PlayStation 2 (PS2), which became a game-changer in the world of gaming. With improved graphics, a built-in DVD player, and backward compatibility with PlayStation 1 games, the PS2 offered a superior gaming experience. Its launch was met with immense success, and it quickly became the best-selling console of all time, with over 155 million units sold worldwide.
The PS2 also introduced some of the most beloved video game franchises, including “Grand Theft Auto,” “Final Fantasy,” and “Metal Gear Solid.” Its extensive library of games, combined with its multimedia capabilities, solidified the PlayStation 2 as a household name. Many gamers still fondly remember the PS2 era for its unforgettable games and iconic hardware.
The PlayStation 3: Entering the High-Definition Era
Sony’s next big leap came in 2006 with the release of the PlayStation 3 (PS3). The PS3 was the company’s first entry into the high-definition gaming market, offering stunning 1080p resolution and advanced Blu-ray technology. This made it one of the most powerful consoles on the market at the time.
While the PS3 faced stiff competition from Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Nintendo’s Wii, it still managed to thrive due to its exclusive games and multimedia capabilities. The console introduced online multiplayer gaming through the PlayStation Network (PSN), and its expansive game library included hit titles such as “The Last of Us,” “Uncharted,” and “God of War III.”
Despite a rough start with its high price point, the PS3 went on to sell over 87 million units worldwide. It was an important step forward for Sony, showcasing its commitment to pushing the boundaries of gaming technology.
The PlayStation 4: Dominating the Gaming Landscape
In 2013, Sony released the PlayStation 4 (PS4), a console that would go on to dominate the gaming market for much of the decade. With a focus on power, speed, and social connectivity, the PS4 quickly established itself as the go-to platform for gamers. It featured improved graphics, a faster processor, and a redesigned controller with a touchpad and built-in speaker.
The PS4’s success was largely driven by its incredible lineup of exclusive games, such as “Horizon Zero Dawn,” “Bloodborne,” and “Spider-Man.” These titles helped to cement the PlayStation 4’s place as the leading gaming console of its generation. Additionally, Sony introduced PlayStation Plus, a subscription service that offered free monthly games and exclusive discounts, further incentivizing players to choose the PS4 over its competitors.
By 2020, the PS4 had sold over 110 million units worldwide, making it one of the most successful consoles ever. It also set the stage for the release of the PlayStation 5.
The PlayStation 5: Next-Gen Gaming is Here
In November 2020, Sony launched the PlayStation 5 (PS5), ushering in the next generation of gaming. The PS5’s standout feature is its incredible performance. Equipped with a custom SSD, the PS5 is able to load games almost instantly, offering a seamless and immersive experience. This high-speed storage technology, paired with the console’s powerful GPU, allows for detailed graphics and smooth gameplay.
The PS5 also introduced the new DualSense controller, which features advanced haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. These features provide a more immersive and tactile gaming experience, allowing players to feel the action in their hands as they play.
In terms of game design, the PS5 has been home to some groundbreaking titles such as “Demon’s Souls,” “Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart,” and “Returnal.” The PlayStation 5’s focus on ray tracing, 3D audio, and fast loading times has raised the bar for future games and set new standards for the gaming industry.
Despite being released during a global pandemic, the PS5 quickly became a hot commodity, with Sony struggling to keep up with demand. As of 2024, the PlayStation 5 continues to perform strongly in the market, thanks to its innovative features and incredible game library.
PlayStation’s Impact on Gaming Culture
Sony PlayStation has not only changed the way we experience games but also how we interact with them. Over the years, PlayStation has fostered a vibrant community of gamers through its online services, such as PlayStation Network, PlayStation Plus, and PlayStation Now. These services have allowed players to connect, compete, and collaborate with each other across the globe, building a sense of camaraderie and shared passion for gaming.
Furthermore, PlayStation has been a platform that embraces creative expression. Many indie game developers have found success on PlayStation consoles, thanks to the company’s support for smaller studios and its easy-to-use development tools. Games like “Journey,” “Hollow Knight,” and “Celeste” have flourished on PlayStation, proving that gaming is not just about big-budget productions but also about innovative ideas and unique experiences.
PlayStation also continues to lead in virtual reality (VR) gaming. With the release of PlayStation VR and its subsequent upgrades, Sony has created an accessible and affordable VR platform for console gamers. The PlayStation VR system has opened up new possibilities for immersion in gaming, allowing players to experience virtual worlds in a way that was previously only available on high-end PCs.

The Future of Sony PlayStation
Looking ahead, Sony PlayStation’s future is bright. With the continued success of the PlayStation 5 and upcoming releases, Sony is poised to maintain its position as a leader in the gaming industry. The company is also expected to continue developing new technologies, such as cloud gaming and AI-driven experiences, that will change the way we play games.
Furthermore, PlayStation has embraced subscription-based services, such as PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus Premium, allowing players to access a vast library of games for a monthly fee. This shift towards subscription services is expected to be a major part of the company’s strategy in the years to come.
As gaming continues to evolve, so too will the PlayStation brand. With its legacy of innovation, commitment to quality, and dedication to gamers, Sony PlayStation will undoubtedly remain at the forefront of the industry for many years to come.
Conclusion
The Sony PlayStation is not just a gaming console; it’s a cultural icon that has shaped the way we experience and enjoy video games. From its humble beginnings in the 1990s to its current status as the most advanced gaming platform in the world, PlayStation has consistently pushed the boundaries of what is possible in gaming. With each new iteration, Sony has continued to innovate and deliver experiences that captivate and inspire gamers worldwide. As we look to the future, the PlayStation legacy will continue to grow, shaping the next generation of gaming for years to come.

Menelusuri Perjalanan Sukses PlayStation dari Masa ke Masa
Tumblr media
Game eksklusif seperti God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, dan Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas menonjolkan kekuatan PS2 dalam grafis dan gameplay.
Namun, seiring waktu, PS3 mulai mendapatkan pengakuan berkat game eksklusifnya yang berkualitas tinggi, seperti Uncharted, The Last of Us, dan Gran Turismo 5.

The Best Games of 2008 | Peak Video Gaming
2008! What a year! This new console generation has really matured nicely. Here are my top 10 games of 2008.
Remember, (I say like anyone is reading) this post will be written as if it were published in December of 2008, so all critiques will be from that perspective. LFG!
Tumblr media
#10 - Mirror's Edge
As you'll see by this list, EA had a damn good year. Each of their games on this list stretches their respective genres in positive directions. Mirror's Edge, while great, is the messiest of them. Not messy in a bad way, messy like an alt-rock singer who can't comfortably order coffee, yet writes genre-defining anthems kind of way. It's a big swing to make an FPS that encourages you not to shoot. What it loses with its clumsy controls it gains in style, atmosphere, and identity. Mirror's Edge is simply too cool to skip.
Tumblr media
#9 - Battlefield: Bad Company
The increasingly more and more tired military shooter genre might be on borrowed time, so who knew all it took was some personality to breathe life into an otherwise boring trope. The characters in Bad Company are worth the price of admission, but there's also the context-sensitive destruction. Setting the conflict in a fictitious war allows for bigger, more inventive settings and fights. Bad Company is such a fun direction for an otherwise straight-forward franchise.
Tumblr media
#8 - Braid
One of the most exciting things about the new generation of consoles is how services like XBLA open up the world of indie gaming to a massive audience. Where niche indie weirdo titles would previously get lost on the PC, titles like Braid can now not only exist but become massive hits. Braid might be the most unique platformer I've ever experienced and there is no way it could ever exist as a full-priced major publisher game. Its time mechanics are mind-bending and its retro winks and nods have a charm not found in traditional games. Braid is cool, and the promise of more cool small games is even cooler.
Tumblr media
#7 - Civilization Revolution
I've been a Civ fan since Civ 2 on the PC and have been casually following the series ever since. My interest in mainline games really always depended on how well they ran on my machine at the time. Civ Rev isn't a masterpiece, but it does wonders (pun intended) for turn-based strategy games on console. I never thought I would play a great console Civ game and this pulled it off. The on-boarding process was simple and even though I was used to managing my civ with a mouse and keyboard, I didn't feel handcuffed by the controller mapping. If you've ever been interested in this genre, but haven't had a competent gaming PC, Civ Rev is a perfect jumping-on point.
Tumblr media
#6 - Gears of War 2
Better than its predecessor in every way, Gears 2 has a more dynamic story mode, better multiplayer, and higher stakes. The real game changer here though is hoard mode. Adding this co-op wave-based multiplayer mode turned Gears from a lonely solemn experience to a bombastic friendly non-stop romp. The other aspects of Gears have matured in many ways, but horde-mode is what levels the whole package up.
Tumblr media
#5 - Dead Space
Chalk up another EA banger here in Dead Space. The team at EA Redwood Shores created an atmospheric sci-fi horror nightmare that both Resident Evil and Event Horizon should envy. Clever mechanics like limb removal and innovative set decor like dynamic lighting, help Dead Space feel like more than just another survival horror game. The tension is palpable throughout. Even the lore built to justify the mining tools and supernatural hooks are some of the most memorable in the genre. Dead Space cannot be missed.
Tumblr media
#4 - Left 4 Dead
After the release of Left 4 Dead, co-op shooters may never be the same. Using what Valve is calling the AI director, players are ushered through each level and forced to work together, never quite feeling comfortable in their skin. Zombie games can easily become passe. Where Left 4 Dead scores is its tightly scripted cooperative gameplay and its versus mode that pits 4 player-controlled infected against 4 player-controlled humans. It's a special brand of chaos that leaves players constantly on their toes.
Tumblr media
#3 - Super Smash Bros. Brawl
I may not win any cool points for putting Brawl so high on this list, but I suffer from an affliction that causes me to be really bad at fighting games. It's called sucking at fighting games. This means, most of the complaints leveed at Brawl are so high above my pay grade that they don't bother me at all. I loved the new characters, especially Pit, Toon Link, Ike, and Sonic. The expansion of the levels was nice, and the slower gameplay really helped out a buster like me. Being the loner that I am, I enjoyed the Subspace Emissary mode more than most other players. I think I've said my piece, so you'll find no apologies over here.

#2 - Burnout Paradise
Again EA with a genre redefining banger in Burnout Paradise. Burnout has always been EA's other harder-hitting racing franchise behind the flagship Need For Speed titles, but with Paradise and it's open-world approach to speed, Criterion has created a very-much non-stop thrill ride. All events emerge from the world as you drive through Paradise City and players are dropped in and out of events seamlessly without loads or delay. It's nothing to accidentally spend 6 hours driving around the city cleaning up challenges and racing players online, and perfecting silly jump ramps and not even realize time has passed.

#1 - Rock Band 2
Not technically published by EA, only distributed, Rock Band 2 is a perfect video game experience. The game ships with better instruments than last year's edition, and every added feature is welcomed. The soundtrack is top notch and the ability to import 55 of the 58 tracks from RB1 and your previously purchased DLC makes Rock Band 2 the most compelling rhythm game ever developed. Fans of the genre will appreciate the built-in auto-calibrating guitar sensors. Harmonix has really thought of everything ... and the DLC just keeps coming. I'm fully aware this selection is a very "Sergio" choice, but it is MY list so again, no apologies.
Notable Omissions
Grand Theft Auto IV - I played it, and it is a compelling package, but I simply cannot get behind a game whose control mechanics are so fundamentally broken. I'm glad people are enjoying GTA4 but it was a chore just for me to finish.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - I'm not super into stealth games and bonkers anime-inspired plotlines aren't really my thing. One day I might dive into the entire Metal Gear series, but 4 did not hit my desk this year.
Fallout 3 - As noted here before, I'm not an RPG kind of guy. This is another series I might eventually hit up, but as of right now, I've got to pass on it.
Mario Kart Wii - MK Wii is a perfectly competent Mario Kart game, I really have no complaints about it. The online is solid and the tracks are good, but it just didn't make an impact like the other games on this list.
Can EA repeat their banner year? Will Rock Band 3 keep up the same level of hype? Only time will tell? See y'all in 2009.
Cheers

LawBreakers Is Making An Unofficial Comeback Thanks To Fans

LawBreakers Is Making An Unofficial Comeback Thanks To Fans
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 2017 low-gravity hero shooter LawBreakers is coming back from the dead. However, this isn’t an official revival but rather due to the work of a dedicated group of fans.
LawBreakers was created by Boss Key Productions, a team led by Gears of War lead designer Cliff Bleszinski. Upon launching for PlayStation 4 and PC in August 2017, it garnered a generally positive critical impression (read our review here). However, it failed to find its place in the competitive multiplayer shooter market of the time, resulting in poor sales and low player engagement that eventually led to its early demise in September 2018.
Now, a team of passionate fans has worked to bring LawBreakers back. Dubbed The RELB Project, the project has been in the works since at least 2020. Its FAQ states that “This is a project to bring back the game LawBreakers, it’s done by creating ‘fake’ servers that the original game client uses. You can join by downloading the launcher, patching your game and playing like normal.”
RELB’s website allows you to download the launcher. Despite this revival being an unofficial project, Cliff Bleszinki (who has been vocal about wanting to see LawBreakers come back) has given it his blessing and enthusiastically shared RELB’s Discord on Saturday.
Somehow LawBreakers is coming back, see below!!! — If you’re interested in this weekend’s public test or future tests, join the RELB discord server to learn how to get set up and keep up with the current news! https://t.co/1COV57FZQ5
— Cliff Bleszinski (@therealcliffyb) April 13, 2024
The RELB Project is still very much a work in progress, but the team held its first series of public playtests this past weekend. Although several modes and features from the game were disabled, these sessions appear to have been largely successful. The next playtest has not been scheduled, and the team is currently seeking more developers.
What did you think of LawBreakers and are you excited to see it playable again? Let us know in the comments!

Helldivers II Post
alright I've been playing helldivers on and off for about a month now and I think I've got an idea of what I like about it and what I do not like about it.
First off, like everyone ever says, the gunplay is ridiculously good and it really makes me realize what I've been missing, recoil is chaotic, aiming sight wiggle is noticeable and important to get right in the heat of it, in general like a surprisingly small amount of games firing a gun while running actually feels like a risk and it really adds to the chaos. Clip reloading is another system that punishes you for panic reloading (something I had to learn) and the game has a difficulty scale ranging from almost pointlessly easy to effectively being a stealth game because if you get caught you'll get so piled up on you are inevitably going to chain die repeatedly. In solo, anyway. The chaos is unparalelled and it just really feels like things go to hell really quick, it's super exciting, and when you pull off a clutch strategem it feels Great. Basically everything about playing the game is fantastic.
The galactic war thing giving overarching goals for the playerbase is also really fun and I fuckin Love communally filling a meter so there's no complaints there. Also fantastic.
I have one complaint. One specific (and ultimately not really that important) aspect of the progression is much harder then the others, to the point of pushing less skilled/solo players Really hard. The game is intended as multiplayer. I have no qualms with the intended multiplayer focus. Maybe I am being unfair by making the comparison that I am about to make, but I wish it had handled the entire thing a bit more like deep rock galactic.
In deep rock galactic when you solo you get a little drone buddy named Bosco and he will shoot bugs for you, he'll mine for you, he'll generally help you out and is surprisingly competent which makes single player playable, and a little less arduous. The experience is still far more complete with multiple players, because it was, you know, made for that, and especially in DRG the community is generally friendly enough that there's no reason not to do that, but as someone that is not always feeling up to herding cats on the internet it's nice that I can pop into solo and play the game and get more or less the same stuff a group can get, and progress my account. This on top of the fact that a failed mission still rewards you a (reduced) amount of rewards means that you're always moving forward, which is quite nice.
I've been beating around the bush long enough so here's the complaint finally. There are three different avenues to upgrading your account.
Medals, which you just get from clearing missions, no complaints there. These unlock new gear and cosmetics for the essentially battle pass. Battle passes never vanish so the battle pass model is essentially just there so they can do content drops.
Requisition slips are number two, and much like medals you just get them by finishing missions. Again no complaints; they unlock strategems (active abilities you can use in missions), and are quite important to playing the game at higher difficulties, because heavy enemies are surprisingly weak to your non strategem equipment.
Samples. Here's the issue. First, when you die, you drop your samples. If you finish the mission, and die during extraction, you might "succeed" the mission, but you are not getting those valuable valuable samples. This really isn't the biggest deal, but it plays into part two. Part two is that higher grade samples spawn exclusively on higher difficulties; 4 and 7 to be precise. This is the issue. You can really break your back trying to get a decent amount of rare samples only to get thumped because the game dropped 3-4 heavies on you during extraction.
Now it's not the worst thing in the world, the passive tree is ultimately probably the least impactful upgrade segment out of the three, and you can get them solo with enough effort, but it feels very gatekeep-ey and almost (don't take this next part too seriously now) mean spirited.
It's just baffling because much like DRG I think helldivers is a Fantastic multiplayer game, and as a result I don't think they have to gate materials like this other then a weird insistence that only players above a certain skill level can get the full passive tree. There are multiplayer players saying they can't really get the higher tier samples because they're not good enough, and it feels like the sort've thing that creates needless friction. Hopefully they'll eventually introduce a way to get higher samples at a reduced rate, so, much like DRG, even if you're hobbling through the lower difficulties you can eventually nickle and dime your way to upgrades.
I dunno! I'm really enjoying the game, but when I drop samples right at the end and I get a small portion of progression yanked out of my hands it feels real bad. That's essentially my one complaint. If you've got people to play with then it's a great game to grab.
