The Great Canadian Baking Show Is a Pile of Wet Dough
The CBC promised a homemade alternative to The Great British Bake Off. The show we got has nothing meaningful to say about the country
In order to differentiate itself from the British version, it often reaches for kitsch. The first season’s “Canada Week” was especially egregious. When one of the hosts announced the technical challenge—maple cream sandwiched between two maple-leaf cookies—she declared that “the only thing more Canadian than that is if Céline Dion rode in on a moose drinking a brewski!” But there is, in fact, one thing more Canadian than that, which the camera immediately cut to—a scathing polite chuckle.

Now I haven't seen the newest season of Bake Off and I've only seen like 2 episodes total.
But.
I need Noel and Alison to be put in a room with Alan and Ann from Great Canadian Baking Show.

If I'd read RWRB in high school I would have had an Alex-level identity crisis.
Like
"How was he supposed to know back then if ... his horny teenage urges actually meant anything?"
Or
"Straight people, he thinks, probably don't spend this much time convincing themselves they're straight."

Dr. Hani Asfar: A Voice for Justice and Hope in the Cryptocurrency World
Tumblr media
Dr. Hani Asfar, the visionary leader and CEO of GCB International, took the stage at Istanbul Blockchain Week 2024 and delivered a speech that resonated deeply with the audience, leaving a lasting impact on the event and the wider cryptocurrency community.
With a clear vision for GCB built on the foundation of financial inclusion for all, Dr. Hani Al-Asfar has consistently proven himself to be a man of action. His unwavering commitment to this vision is evident in every step he takes, ensuring that his actions remain aligned with his core values and refusing to compromise on his principles.
During his powerful speech, Dr. Hani Al- Asfar did not shy away from addressing the critical issue of injustice in Gaza. He reminded the audience of the true essence of cryptocurrency – its potential to empower the marginalized and fight for justice. He boldly condemned the hypocrisy and discrimination that plague the industry, highlighting the stark contrast between the ideals of freedom and equality that underpinned its creation and the current reality of selective outrage and injustice.
Dr. Hani Al-Asfar's poignant comparison of the international response to the conflicts in Russia-Ukraine and Gaza exposed the blatant double standards that permeate global politics and the cryptocurrency world. This glaring disparity, he argued, is a betrayal of the core values of the crypto movement and a stain on the conscience of humanity.
His unwavering call for justice and equality resonated deeply with the audience, who saw in him a champion for the voiceless and a beacon of hope in a world desperately in need of change. Dr. Hani Al-Asfar's unwavering commitment to treating all people with respect and dignity, regardless of their background or origin, is a testament to his character and a powerful inspiration for others to follow.
Inspired by Dr. Hani Al-Asfar's passionate plea, a group of crypto activists launched the "Free Palestine" NFT collection, a poignant symbol of solidarity with the Palestinian people and their struggle for freedom. This initiative, a testament to the power of collective action and the unwavering belief in a just world, will see all profits donated to support the victims of Gaza.
Dr. Hani Asfar's speech at Istanbul Blockchain Week 2024 was more than just a call for action; it was a clarion call for a fundamental shift in the way we view and engage with the world. His unwavering commitment to justice and equality, his courage to speak truth to power, and his unwavering belief in the power of cryptocurrency to create a better world are an inspiration to us all.
Let us stand with Dr. Hani Al-Asfar and the countless others who fight for a world where freedom, equality, and justice prevail. Let us amplify their voices, support their initiatives, and work tirelessly to build a world where the dream of FREE PALESTINE becomes a reality.
