I think what makes Tumblr so funny to me on a meta level is how it started out as this hip altenative to Myspace for straight hipsters and those who only came there for the “spicy” content and nowadays it’s just the gays and theys sharing their tv obsessions and the latest gender envy they experienced from the current unconventionally attractive middle aged man of the month.

I rant posted about this on my ig story but here I go again. I am tired of “queer representation” being so …… manicured ? Curated?? Aesthetic-driven ?? Idk what the word is but. Damn. Where is the love for the Gays N’ Theys who don’t have aesthetic lives ???

I'm sorry but not every queer person has time to do stand up comedy, maintain an clean apartment full of houseplants, surround themselves with a gang of hilarious fun queer friends, produce a cohesive art portfolio that expresses the queer experience??? Bitch I did not grow up in Los Angeles. I do not live in New York. I barely have the energy to feed myself dinner in my cockroach filled apartment. I do not have time to pick up filmmaking as a side project so that I can depict "queer joy"

Sorry I just don't like how queerness is reduced down to a cultivated aesthetic on the internet. My experience isn't less "valid" because I'm not "visible" in a way that is easy for cishet people to understand. Sorry my "queer experience" doesn't fit into a 60 second reel. And I don't have the obligatory pixie cut/mullet and nose ring. My queer experience consists mainly of sexism in male dominated spaces, being shamed in my upbringing for expressing masculinity, and having my attraction to girls dismissed, minimized, and pathologized. It's a little hard to be Out N Proud when you're born and raised in conservative southern Texas. Sorry I don't have any "queer joy" about that.

Basically

1. My hair is long in an Eddie Vedder way not like a girly way

2. Me and a 55 /o butch lesbian are the only females in my cycling group

3. Got my shirt from the fruity men's section at forever21

4. I'm not out at work (my school) be of "groomer discourse"

5. I'm not out to family and I don't talk to them about my personal life

6. All my childhood friends ended up being queer, long after we all met each other

7. Non monogamy is the move

no but seriously, as a reader, one thing i love about the availability of the rwrb book and the movie is you get to read and watch it alternately with the same smile from ear to ear. oh you want a slowburn version? let's read the book! oh you want the fanfic-paced version? let's watch the movie! the same exact feeling of excitement, giddiness, and cheesiness can still be felt whenever you reread or rewatch it. alex and henry of the book and movie are perfect enough, what more can you ask for? plus if you'd really think it over, it doesn't matter how you want to consume the material, because it all depends on how you want to relive the moment. let people enjoy their silly little pink book together with its silly little gay movie!!!
