i’ve always hc that gary developed the name ashy boy for ash because like any other child, a kid he struggled with pronunciation, so he would add an “ee” sound after ash’s name when he first met him at first and he began to remember him as “the boy named ash” so ta da the name ashy boy was born <3

adding onto this, i think ash had pronunciation issues too so when he met gary he would run after him and yell “gawee !!” (he struggled pronouncing his r’s)
