Goblin Kings & Little Birds
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE MOST WONDERFUL FRIEND! @shewhowillnotbenamed1! May this year be better than the last and may the wine and plants never run out!
~~~*~*~*~~~
Here’s the thing, this wasn’t his fault, it was entirely the demon brat’s fault. Jason just had intentions of enjoying the international games in the heart of the Scottish Highlands at their rival school, he did not intend to end up being a fucking babysitter for his idiot brothers and sisters!
It didn’t help that Dick was marrying Babs and wouldn’t be here because planning their wedding took priority and B had literally shoved the kids at Jason to handle because B had some crisis or other to manage. It was his fucking graduation year! Did anyone give him special treatment for that!? No! He was just relegated to watching his siblings and because he wasn’t fucking ‘Golden Child’ Dick they didn’t listen to him, so it was like herding nifflers!
And somehow that had lead him to this problem as he snuck through the halls of Hogwarts, missing out on the introductory feast hunting for his damn baby brother’s fucking niffler! When he got his hands on Damian, he was going to wring the brat’s neck, only after he found the fucking niffler! Why he was slinking through an unknown castle for this damn thing was beyond him! He should send the demon brat to find it! But no, he couldn’t have the little first year in fucking trouble, besides if anything happened to Damian, he wouldn’t stop hearing about it from Dick and Jason really didn’t want to hear Dickhead’s lectures. Mostly because from the time he was born he could remember Dick conveniently ‘forgetting’ him. Also, his and Dick’s relationship would never be great because Dick spent the first fifteen years of Jason’s life being a monumental ass.
There was a yelp as he rounded the corner and saw the fucking niffler dangling gleefully around a woman’s neck and tangled in ebony hair.
“You fucking troublemaker!” he hissed as he raced over, the niffler gave a jump but Jason caught it as the woman gave a startled shout at them both toppling over and going sprawling in the corridor. “What the hell are you even doing here! I told Damian to leave you home!” he seethed.
“Well they are crafty buggers,” a voice announced and now he and the niffler looked at the woman beneath him. She was a gorgeous woman too which had his eyes widening as he took her in and scrambled off her.
“Sorry about that, Miss,” he exclaimed as he reached down to hoist her up. She was light as a pixie really, he was stunned as she stood then.
“No harm done,” she assured him as she righted her robes, they were blue and bronze, which had him wracking his brains for the minimal information he remembered about Hogwarts and it’s sorting system. “You’re from Ilvermony!”
“Yeah,” he nodded shamefully as he kept a firm grip on his brother’s niffler. “I’d shake your hand but,” he looked pointedly at the little troublemaker he held.
“So I see,” she mused with a small smile on her apathetic face. “I’m Raven Constantine, Head Girl of Ravenclaw.”
“Jason Wayne, Head of the Wampus house, but also incharge of my idiot siblings,” he sighed.
“I understand,” she promised, her mirth was glittering in her violet eyes.
“Where am I?” he asked her.
“Well, you’re about as far from the feast as you could be, we’re in the north wing of the castle,” she said. “Come on Yankee,” she gestured for him.
“I take offense to that, I’m a Mets fan for baseball.”
“Should I call you Mets?”
“Nah, Jay will work.”
“What is baseball?”
“No-Maj sport,” he said.
“Oh, thank Merlin, I was worried I was missing some Quidditch teams,” she shuddered.
“Ah, so you like Quidditch!?”
“My elder brother is a professional beater for the Scotland!” she smiled. “Drives our father mad!”
“Huh, and here I was hoping to know your favorite team.”
“I hate Quidditch, only root for my brother!”
“Fair enough.”
“What is your favorite team?”
“Fitchburg Finches,” he admitted.
“I see that Yanks obsess about Quidditch as much as we do,” she mused.
“But of course, little bird, it’s a sacred sport!”
“So I’m told, and what’s with the little bird!?” she demanded.
“Well, you are tiny, you also have a bird on your robes, and you have a lovely voice,” he smiled.
“Mmm, very well, I accept little bird,” she decided.
“No nicknames for me!?”
“Goblin King?” she offered sweetly.
“Yeah sure,” he shrugged in good humor as they walked through the castle.
“Are all yanks like you?”
“Devilishly good looking?” he asked.
“Good humored.”
“Depends on who you meet, do all brits have accents like that?”
“Oh, mine, no, I’m… my father is from Liverpool, but I spent a fair amount of time in Ireland before we settled in Glasgow,” she explained. “I lose my temper and nary a soul will understand, except my Uncle Luci.”
“Well, you sound lovely,” he decided honestly.
“Thank you, you’re the first to ever say that!” she chuckled.
“Raven!” a shout came and they both looked over to see a black-haired girl stomping over to them dressed in red and gold. “The feast is starting! We’re going to meet up before we have to take the first years off… who are you!?” the woman turned so sickly sweet that he smiled devilishly. He didn’t like her or how she was speaking to Raven at all; it reminded him of Dick, and he didn’t like the way she was looking at him like he was a drool worthy sex toy rather than a person.
“Goblin King, how do you do?” he sneered. She gagged and hurried off which had him bursting into laughter as Raven laughed beside him.
“Come along Goblin King, before Zatanna thinks she wants to yell at me for bringing a fae into the school,” she chuckled.
“I’ll see you around, right little bird?” he asked.
“Oh yes, Goblin King! There’s the Ilvermony table,” she said as they walked into the hall. He nodded at her as he walked to the table.
“Damian Wayne! If you don’t keep track of this damn niffler I will hang you by your toe nails in the castle dungeon,” he growled as he shoved the creature in his brother’s lap.
How Not to Write the Flashes and Their Rogues, Part 2 (Geoff Johns’ First Run, Rogues’ Revenge, and Blackest Night)
Geoff Johns is another character who did some characters really well and other characters poorly. I liked his Linda quite a bit. His Jay and Joan were good. He does a fantastic Captain Cold, a good Heat Wave, and a very distinct and interesting Weather Wizard. I liked aspects of his McCulloch and applaud his creativity in the creation of a bunch of new villains (collectively, the new Rogues). His handling of Grodd and Abra Kadabra was good. He invented the second Trickster and Zoom and was also involved in crafting the second Captain Boomerang (but more on Owen later). He understood Piper’s character. And his characterization of Keystone and Central City was really good. He breathed life into them like no other writer. That being said, he’s not perfect, and there are aspects of his writing that I dislike.
First, I find that his Wally is a bit too similar to Barry. I don’t hate his take on Wally, but I do find it to not be as good as Messner-Loebs’ or Waid’s . Johns’ Wally seems just a bit too serious and mature.
Likewise, I’m not crazy about his Bart. Again, I find that he makes Bart a bit too stoic and serious. I’m also not a fan of Johns having him take the Kid Flash identity (I like him calling himself Impulse better).
I can’t say he handled the Piper improperly, because he didn’t, but I do feel like the trauma conga line he put the character through was a bit much (although it wasn’t his fault that subsequent, much worse writers put him through even more trauma.)
I’m not crazy about the direction in which he took Magenta; he made her much more murderous than she had ever been before. It was also strange that she started teaming up with various supervillain groups, because before Johns’ run all of her criminal activity was linked to her mental illness and her anger at Wally for their bad break-up. She wasn’t ever 100% out-of-character, but she seemed off compared to how she had been previously written.
His treatment of the Top seemed mean-spirited. Everyone has characters they don’t like, but the fact that he made all the other characters share his distaste for the character to the extent that he did was unnecessary, since the character does have fans who don’t appreciate having him arbitrarily treated as though he’s a much bigger jerk than the other Rogues when he really isn’t (or at least wasn’t prior to Johns writing him). The fact that he used the Top as a plot device to justify a retcon that I don’t like doesn’t help matters, either. That being said, he did at least give the Top some extra powers, so that’s cool...and the idea that he thinks of himself as more sophisticated than the other Rogues is an interesting distinguishing trait.
His Golden Glider was...kind of a mixed bag. I appreciate that he gave her a backstory and established that she and Cold were very close, but at the same time, he took away a lot of the character’s strength (treating her primarily as a victim rather than the strong-willed villain she was during the Bronze Age) and kind of fridged her posthumously. He used her death, even though he didn’t write it, to motivate Captain Cold, and he also refused to bring her back for that reason. He also strongly downplayed her relationship with the Top (probably because, as previously noted, he really seems to hate the Top).
I don’t actually dislike the backstory he gave to McCulloch or the retcons he gave to the backstories of Heat Wave, Weather Wizard, and (later) the original Captain Boomerang, but I do think that they display a slightly worrying trend with Johns’ work: namely, that he appears to think that the best way to make sure the Rogues are taken seriously as characters is to have them kill a lot of people (especially their relatives and particularly their fathers, for some reason). I’m not particularly fond of this method, but that’s largely a matter of personal taste.
In speaking of McCulloch, I will also note here that Johns’ McCulloch is a lot more grim and unhinged than Morrison’s McCulloch, being more in-line with the McCulloch Waid wrote in #105.
And then there’s the stupid Identity Crisis tie-in retcon. Not only does this retcon make Barry rather morally-ambiguous by revealing that he had Zatanna alter the Top’s mind, but, more annoyingly, it also completely undoes Trickster’s character development under Waid, undoes some of Piper’s character development under Messner-Loebs and Waid, and makes most, if not all, of Heat Wave’s choices post-COIE not the result of his own agency. If Johns wanted to undo the redemption arc of Heat Wave, fine (James really should’ve stayed semi-reformed), but it would’ve been better served by a different narrative choice. Pretty much anything would be better than saying that the Rogues’ redemption arcs were the result of the Top tampering with their minds, in fact, since doing that basically undid about 80% of the impact the choices Heat Wave, Trickster, and Piper had made since COIE.
And finally (for now) we have what happened with Owen during Blackest Night. While I don’t begrudge Johns wanting to bring back the original Captain Boomerang, I do wish he had done it in a different way than having Owen turn into a child-murderer and then be killed by Captain Cold. Poor Owen suffered both a figurative and a literal character assassination there.
“Collared!” for science
send collared! for your muse to collar mine | open
Daken wakes up with a start, jostled by sensation. Hands at his neck -- no, hands toying around his neck. His eyes fly open to see... Zatanna, thighs straddling him, looking mischievous. A leash outstretches from her hand to his neck.
“Good morning.” She grins, and tugs at it. Kurt, he realizes, must have already gotten out of bed; it’s just the two of them, and the morning light filtering through a leafy and floral window.
So, she’s just fucking with him. How dare she?!
He grabs her wrist with his hand, and easily rolls them over in the spacious bed in a flurry of sheets and legs. Her hand, however, still holds the leash unpleasantly taught even when he lands on top of her. Whatever. His hand curls into a fist above her head, his claws snikt out, spattering fine droplets of blood on her face. Then --
“Ah-ah! Swalc Ni!”
-- his claws immediately snakt back into his wrist as hard as the recoil of a rifle, making him gasp in surprise and his arm ache.
Zatanna waves a finger up at him, a little no no gesture. “Looks like I got the jump on you this time, Daken.” The leash balls up even tighter around her wrist, such that his face is forcibly brought up to hers. His body is all rigid tension; hers, relaxed underneath him. “This is a much better way to wake up, right?”
“You stupid bitch. You’ll regret this,” he spits in all his indignant fury, snarling. He’s embarrassed. He shouldn’t be the one being caught unawares.
“Mm. Let’s try that again.” Zee’s expression goes flat here, clearly unamused. “You play nice, or else you’ll get the same treatment you gave me, but worse. Capiche?”
Fine, he doesn’t say, but he doesn’t resist when she flips them back over.
Bio! dad Strange part 14, Evillustrator Part 2 and Magic Consequences Start
Recap: Girls are trying to get Marinette and Nathaniel together. Kim, Alix and Max now have their cannon miraculous and have some training with Marinette as they know she’s ladybug. Evillustrator is happening now. Chat is talking to Marinette because she (accidentally?) admitted to being meta.
“Why haven’t you…”
“My family is here Chat, if I left I’d be missing and invesigated. They’d connect the dots and they’d pay for harbouring a meta.”
Chat ran a hand through his hair. “I, I didn’t know they do that. I thought it was just send to another country—and most like having metas around.”
Marinette shook her head. “As weapons. As long as i’m unregistered, i’m safe.”
Chat didn't like it. He didst hide it either.
“I’ll be fine… just need to make it eight more years. Legally an adult, then move in with Father.”
“That’s… not okay.”
Marinette gave him a sad smile. “I can’t leave Maman. Or my family and friends here.”
Chat seemed to get that. “I, its not fun.”
Marinette watched her partner, even with her head swimming still. He was curled in on himself, not making eye contact by looking at the floor. Guilt, possible remorse, and was emotionally connected to the idea of leaving people. Someone left him or he left a lot of people. willingness in either case uncertain... maybe both with one causing the other?
Chat kept his eyes low. Marinette made notes that she knows this, not as Ladybug but as a civilian.
“So, I’m going on my date.”
“With an akuma.”
“He’s not violent, he promised not to hurt anyone.”
“Which makes him easier to take down. When’s your date?”
“None of you business.”
“Marinette...”
“Chat, trust me, I think he’ll give up the akuma on his own. I don’t need you to save me, and i trust him.”
Chat hid his wince poorly.
“Just, don’t tell anyone about the...”
“Sun healing?”
“....that.”
“Is that you’re only power or...”
“Its rude to ask.”
“oops?”
“Do you ever talk to people?”
“Father isn’t a fan of it.”
“... don’t tell my parents that. they are serial adopters and i’m not having a superhero at dinner.”
“I, superhero?”
“Powers, and hero. What else would i call you?”
Chat didn’t answer that. He did leave her house though, so she’d take the win there.
She started another groupchat without Chloe or Alix or Sabrina or Lila.
Marinette: So dress or pants for outfit? Boatride.
Juleka: If you go dress, leggings. trust me, i live on one.
Rose: Oh, don’t you have a Zatanna outfit?
Marinette hummed, leaving her house to go to her old hobby room. She kept that one there.
Mylene: did you tell thim thank you?
Marinette: He was nice but it didn’t come up, sorry!
Alya: if he’s rude let me know, i will drag him on the Ladyblog, no questions asked.
Marinette smiled at that on her balcony, getting in her sunshine while she could. The girls in her class were a good distraction from her meta problems. and the lack of Gotham contact. She needed to know if any of her messages got through, but needed an excuse to leave Paris to try again. Father was her best bet, he’d play telephone until someone got it to Tim or the Justice League. But for now, for now she was just excited for her first date.
She slipped into Nonno’s bakery with her key, and waved at him as he worked.
A few minutes later she took a picture of herself in a pair of dark skinny jeans, a faux-corset dress shirt with a black three quarter blazer with elbow length sleeves.
Juleka: fishnet gloves or lace gloves to go with?
Alya: ooo, that’s cute. Hair down, and i vote fishnet
Rose: lace! floral lace would be so pretty~
Mylene: lace if you have it
Marinette grabbed elbow length fingerless black floral lace gloves and sent a picture
Alya: You look great girl!
the text after that were mostly about shoes (they agreed on no flats or heels on the boat. The jury agreed on a cute pair of boots at her house.
Nonno was done when she left her room to grab the chosen shoes with her outfit.
“I told them to stop letting you help out at events.”
“Its a date Nonno.”
Rolland paused, processed, then ordered the mice to hold down the fort before turning to her again
this was going to be interesting...
Rolland sighed, rubbing his forehead. “Marinetta, I am meeting the boy. If he no good, we leave. If he is, I leave you two in public place to make goo-goo eyes, is how it was done in the old days and will go with every boy that tries to take you away from me.”
Marinette rolled her eyes at that. “Nonno, that’s Papa’s job.”
“Peh. Your Papa would coo over the whole thing and forget his job is to put the fear of God into the boy.”
Marinette rubbed the back of her neck. Rolland wasn’t wrong after all… “You can say hi, but he’s akumatized right now—he won’t hurt me, just, he’s not a hundred percent there.”
“I meet boy.”
“Yes.”
“Boy brainwashed and still does what you ask?”
“Yes Nonno.”
“If he’s polite he has my blessing. But remember, one foot out of line…”
“And treat him like an amatauer with bread dough—“
“Break in half and smashed in the center!” Rolland and Marinette said together.
“Good, good. Now, is that what you are wearing to your date?”
“After I get my shoes. and no scaring him off!”
Rolland rolled his eyes, and followed her to her room, helping her out with if she needed any make-up (no, maybe chapstick but nothing else) fixing her hair and listening to her gush about Nathaniel.
“He better be good boy.”
“he’s akumatized but he promised not to hurt anyone after i asked. and no reports of any akuma activity on the app.”
Nonno was the one to escort her to the meeting place. And if she sensed a certain cat and whispered he wanted to datecrash and Nonno went off after him... well. She wants a break from heroing and meta problems, and her date is part of that.
Evillustrator was holding his hand, trembling when they came.
“Na—Evillustrator?”
“Marinette!”
“Ah, you’re the boy that wants to date my Marinetta?” Rolland said, circling the villain.
Evillustrator stood straight, “I, yes, if, if she’ll have me that is.”
Rolland gave the boy a once over. “Hurt her, and amateur breadmakers will seem merciful.”
Evillustrator nodded, looking over to Marinette when Rolland turned around. And blushing. Oh, she was very glad it wasn’t one sided.
“I’m glad you could make it Marinette.”
“Me too, and Nonno, you were just leaving, right?”
“Yes, yes. He knows what happens, and my Marinetta knows what to do if he forgets.”
Marinette rolled her eyes. “Nonno!”
“Pheh, kids these days, always rushing off. Remember—hands to yourselves!”
“NONNO!” Marinette really hoped the others weren’t watching this.
The man waved her off, leaving the pair to their date. “Call after date, or tell your Papa. He’ll call.”
Marinette shook her head. “Sorry about that.”
“No, its fine. I’m just really happy you’re here.”
Marinette smiled at him, almost missing the way a Certain Chat was hanging around the trees.
“It’s really beautiful.”
“Thank you, but I’m just getting started,” Evillustrator smiled, or smirked. She couldn’t tell. “Ah, you gotta be kidding me!”
“Huh?”
“I can’t draw properly in the dark.”
One weakness located. Good to know if he changes.
“Voila!” and he made a small sun. oh, this was so not going to be good for her treatment schedule.
Marinette watched as he let his world enter the real one, music flowing from his pen as he wrote. “You’re so talented, I just don’t get why you’d ever use it to hurt people.”
“Just Chloe, and not anymore. You stayed true to your promise, so I’ll stay true to mine.”
Did she mention she liked him for two years? No?
And Chat was there, on the rooftops now… and there were others following. Why were her friends incapable of being subtle?
“I know I’m not as good as you with just drawing,” Marientte began.
“I’ve seen your work Marinette, you’re a wonderful artist.”
“Is it okay if I draw something for you too?”
“Of course!”
She watched him quickly make a sketchpad and pens. Not what she was going for but she’d work with it. He knew she preferred traditional… why did he have to get akumatized for them to go on a date? Why couldn’t she just get the words out before?
There were thumps on the boat then. Why was Chat like this—they’d gone over stealth that week, or was that with the other three? Either way, she would so call Aunt Selina for help with stubborn cats and boys when she got out of Paris. ON top of the Leauge or some kind of general hero aid, but still. Principle.
A staff separated them. Chat’s.
Marinette jumped back because she trusted her partner but yikes!
“Marinette, you’re working with him!” Oh, her partner did not like civilian her. Good thing secret identities were harder for strangers to crack.
“Nathaniel,” Marinette let her voice shake.
“Stay away from her!”
Suddenly there was a shield over her. Was it bad a part of her really, really liked the idea of him working with her and Chat? And not just the crushing part? Probably. But a girl can daydream. Plus, his powers are very useful.
“Don’t worry pinkie, I got’cha!” Monkey King said as he flung her over his shoulder and jumped onto the bridge.
“MARINETTE!” Evillustrator cried out, trying to get to her
“Who are you!” Chat shot back, blocking Evillustrator.
“Friends of Ladybug, Kitty,” Bunnix yelled as she jumped onto the boat.
Evillustrator managed to get up to the bridge, letting the others argue over who was saving Marinette and seeming to forget about the akuma in the process. He quietly followed the monkey user, waiting until he put Marinette down.
“You’ll be safe here Marinette!” Kim said, running back to the others. “I’ll be back when the akuma is caught. Might wanna work on your luck.” She hated him right then and there. A lot.
“I, don’t hurt him. He’s not a bad person, or even violent.”
Kim’s face changed then. “He targeted Chloe!”
“And he stopped when I asked, and he only targeted her because she was being horrible!”
“How is looking out for you--you know what, we’ll talk later about your poor life choices, and taste in boyfriends!” he yelled as he ran off.
“I--we’re not---not yet but---urgh!”
Evillustrator made himself known then. “Marinette, you’re okay?”
Marinette almost jumped. Almost. “I, I think so,” she rubbed her arms. It was getting cold out.
“I, sorry for how our date ended back there.”
“It was a pretty bad date crashing,” Marinette murmured, not seeing how Evilustrators face went a bit red at her comment. “But it wasn’t your fault. Do you mind if we just, draw somewhere fro a bit?”
She needed him alone for this to work.
He grinned back at her. “Art room?”
“Art room.”
“Hold on, I’ll fly us there.”
She did as asked, looping her arms around his neck and maybe, just maybe, there’s more than a little part of her that liked being able to lean on someone else in situations like this. Where she wasn’t in charge or making every decision for everyone.
He jetted them to the school, and she was certain he tripped an alarm on the way.
She moved to her ‘blurp’ sketchpad, tweaking a few designs inspired by some of Rose’s ‘special’ plants. She waited until Evillustrator put his pen down. she nabbed the jar from Rose’s current project, lid and all, stomped on his pen and jarred the akuma.
“Marinette?” Nathaniel was there. God she missed seeing him. “Wh, what happened?”
“I, you were akumatized. Chat and three new heroes got me away from you but you found me again. You didn’t hurt me or anything, it was more or a date-crashing is all...”
“Oh my god I am so sorry Marinette.”
Marinette’s mind spiraled into the worst case. He regrets this. he regrets talking to me. Oh god, he hates me for taking advantage of his trust as an akuma. I crushed my crush crushing on me. he hates me now. “I, its fine, you probably didn’t even want to, I, sorry, I should have said no.”
“Wait, we were on a date?” It was obvious, she was dressed up, and they were alone and okay, they broke into the school but there’s worse crimes and its pseudo-public property as they both help pay for it to run and she’s rambling again. Face the music Marinette.
“Yes.”
“And you, you wanted to be there?”
“Wi, with you Nathaniel, not uh, not Evillustrator.” God he must hate her. was it cheating to go on a date with someone’s akumatized self? What were the walls here—too many doors and she didn’t see anything resembling rules around this.
“This is horrible timing, but make-up date Saturday?”
“I,” Marinette was tongue-tied. Tikki hit her into awareness from her purse. Shit, she forgot Tikki was there.
“Are you sure?”
“If you are.” She was VERY sure she wanted to go on a real date with Nathaniel. Without her partner and friends stalking them. And Nonno’s circling.
“Then, uh, yes. Yes, I, I’d love y-to. I’d love to!”
If anyone besides the poor butterfly could see them, they would see two very blushy and embarrassed middle schoolers having a hard time making eye contact while grinning like idiots.
“We, uh, we should let Chat know we have the akuma,” Marinette mumbled, glancing at it. She was only 60% certain it wouldn’t phase through like a kwami.
“Right! I’ll post it on the ladyblog.”
“i’ll text the akuma alert.”
“Is Ladybug okay—wait did I kill ladybug!” Nathaniel was panicking. About killing her alter ego. Oh god she was in deep because that was adorable and no! bad brain! Comfort him—don’t fawn over when panicking!
“NO! She, she’s fine! She wasn’t at the battle.”
“OH THANK GOD!”
The pair waited for an angry Chat Noir, ready to lecture them both, only to see blushy Marinette holding Nathaniel’s hand with a jarred akuma in front of them.
“You got his object.” He was stunned by this. well, she did tell him she could.
“Holy—I told you she could do it!” Monkey King was grinning.
“Just because she can, doesn’t mean she should Monkey King,” Max snapped, glaring at him like it was all Kim’s fault Marinette went missing for a few hours… granted he contributed to that.
“So, civvies can kick akuma butt now, good to know, good to know,” Bunnix added, grinning a little too wide. She knew something.
“I, uh, sorry for any harm I did when I was, well, akumatized.”
Monkey King opened his mouth,ready to tell him off.
Only Chat beat him to it, kind of. “Yeah, I heard from Chloe about what happened. Outing a crush, and saying you can’t be together over a private drawing, in public... that’s pretty understandable. Honestly, I’m just glad you didn’t go Stoneheart’s route.” Chat looked between the two at their joined hands. he twitched--why? “Oh—oh! Definitely took the direct route. Good for you two!” strained voice too, what was bothering him about this?
Monkey King then saw the pair holding hands. And blushing and—what did that cretin do to his little sister!
Pegasus looked over and sighed. He knew this would happen. Markov predicted it.
Bunnix was grinning like a loon.
“I’ll take the akuma until my Lady can purify it. My teammates will go home for now and work on teamwork for next time, right?”
“I only have to answer to the Gaurdian.”
“Eh.”
“We have class tomorrow,” Pegasus pointed out.
Marinette nodded along, quick to leave with Nathaniel, her parents fussing over her first REAL date that Saturday---the girls all agreed to assemble to help with outfit and makeup and coaching, and cooed over the end result. except Chloe who was insistent that Marinette could do much better.
She managed to escape only to see an annoyed Chat not far from her balcony. One escape later and she met him on the rooftops.
“Doing better M’lady?”
“A little... Lucky charm!” a jar. “Miraculous Ladybug!” she blanked again. she hated that. when she came to she swayed a bit.
Chat caught her. “M’lady?”
her head was swimming. “I think we need to change our battle plan... using Tikki makes me sick.”
Chat paled at that. “I’ll get the message out tonight, just, hold on, okay?
--
Chat did get the message out. The Justice League did recieve the transmission, but the video file was corrupted. it was the fifth corrupted file they’d received from France.
Hal was getting tired of seeing them, grumbling about it being a prank and it wasn’t funny that someone was pranking the League and taking away from valuable resources and people who need them.
--
Chat met with the Guardian and told him what was happening to Ladybug.
The Gaurdian rubbed his temples. “We need to use her less often. Perhaps have Pegasus and her work from a remote location until we need her to purify the akuma and undo the damage... I believe it is time you begin to work with another miraculous--I chose you as a weak cat so that Paris could not be destroyed with a misplaced Cataclysm. It seems we need more than what i thought... This is the snake miraculous. He has the power to let you change an outcome. i do not know how many minutes you will have with your second chance.”
Chat took the offered box and let the second Kwami, Sass, speak.
“Greetings. I am Sass.”
“Adrien, also Chat Noir.”
“Are we combining or switching?”
Fu looked thoughtful for a moment. “For now, switching. We will work on fusing another day. I believe there’s someone you already trust to share the Black Cat with.”
Adrien sighed, knowning exactly who he meant.
--
END!
so i’m putting this one to a quick vote as to who Adiren shares Plagg with.
Chloe or Felix?
Chloe is fun for theme and working on her (self) destructive tendencies from cannon as general ml writer salt. She would be Duchess (i just like that for her and the general Cat!chloe fanworks) and would have some trouble controlling her Cataclysm, and only be called in for more dangerous akuma as Duchess. she would not know Adrien is Chat. She is still a ladybug fangirl, and yes, she is also Queen Bee when she isn’t able to be Duchess for ReasonsTM (as all miraculous are swapped like candy in my AU because of fights needing different powers, strategies, and for some people (Marinette) are safer with different miraculous, while others are just good one)
Felix would run around as Chat Noir as a body double, work on mending his and Adiren’s relationship and issues, be aware Adrien is Chat, and calls Gabriel out at home when he’s being a paranoid dad. For the Marinette side, they are gremlin freinds, co-founders of the Adrein protection squad, and sometimes discuss reverse-theiving techniques. potential as one of her love interests or vice versa, but eh? also Adiren blowing off steam by being Felix fro a day while Felix does recon on Adrien’s freinds as Adrein to make sure his cousin isn’t falling for fake friends.
Yes, I am doing mass character overhauls in terms of character arcs, but my fic, screw cannon.
Please comment to vote, since i am hardcore 50/50 here, and need help on this one.
i will eventually post this on the a03, its the only mlb fic under crazyjc
Tim Drake in Wonder Comics Young Justice so far
#TimDrakeIsTheBestRobin is something I been seeing Brian Michael Bendis tweet out a lot, but I just started to think about Tim, what all he’s actually done in Young Justice so far as we’re about 7 issues in, and well, he’s done nothing of note.
While the issues so far has shown Tim to be the most in-character he’s been since the New 52 (and even a little bit before), he’s done freaking nothing and half of the year is almost over. The only thing of note he’s going to do this year so far is change his identity, and that’s not only disrespectful to the fact they marketed Tim to fans on something else, but it’s also awful story telling.
The other members in their spotlight issues got to do stuff that actually added to the plot while showing off their personalities, like Cassie had her issue with Zeus that showed how she liked to earn her spot while also being spunky. Conner had stuff set up with S.T.A.R Labs that showed off his rebellious side, and Amethyst had her whole world showed off for the first arc, but Tim got nothing in his.
Tim in his own spotlight didn’t do anything that showed off his personalty. He didn’t even have a plot set up. Stephanie even had a plot set up. Tim’s plot was how he remembered his past timeline (thanks to Zatanna), and going to Metropolis to see where Conner was. So basically, now that he found Conner, there we go. That’s it. His big set-up in issue 5 is done before we even got to see it.
Tim didn’t have any personalty in his issue, or actually do anything in it besides get his memories back thanks to someone else, and all it showed is that he loves his girlfriend and Conner, nothing about his own personality.
From the sounds of it though, Tim’s going to be pretty important for some of the next arcs, but at the same time, he’s getting a new costume and identity, which isn’t a good sign. Especially since the costume’s color scheme stands for boring.
One of the things about the build up to Young Justice was how it seemed to be getting rid of everything people didn’t like about their treatment and getting the characters set back on track. They gave them costumes that fit their personalities, Patrick Gleason almost always (literally only 2 panels I can remember not liking) was able to draw them perfectly as well as get the tone perfectly, and they were the most in-character they been in years for the issues so far.
Now they’re already changing stuff before the years over.
Tim has had no build up to having a need for a new identity.
There was people that wasn’t happy with Tim being Robin again though, they preferred him being Red Robin, but in Heroes of Crisis (which I would recommend avoiding since it’s crap, and certainly Tim’s singular panel) it said he was still Red Robin even though he had his Wonder Comics costume on. Which means he was literally Red Robin still, he just went by Robin with Young Justice.
I really liked that since that meant if you wanted him to be Red Robin still, he was, and if you were happy he was Robin again, he was. That’s a fan pleasing decision that I approved.
So why would Tim want to change his name AND costume now? Especially considering he just got this new Robin costume that fits his personality to a T, and still has his own name to use when having two Robins would be confusing.
Why would there be no build up in the story to this apparent identity change unless him being back on track was just a marketing stunt for more people to buy the issues?
What would be the real life reason for it be, besides they just freaking wanted to?
Are you telling me in the middle of going dimension to dimension that Tim’s gonna think it’s a good time to change his identity?
Did Didio ask for this?
Was it Bendis?
Why?
In what world is this considered good story telling?
Doing stuff at random to change stuff that made people happy isn’t good story telling.
I’m aware some people wanted him to remain Red Robin, but as seen in Heroes in Crisis, he still is, he just likes to go by Robin when he’s with Young Justice. So that problems already been figured out. He’s Red Robin if you want him to be, and that’s actually canon, he’s just also Robin if you want him to be.
If they’re so willing to out of no were change the basic identity of Tim Drake in the middle of an arc, when they just got his character back on track after almost a decade. Why should I trust they care about Tim to do him justice?
They might like him, but does that doesn’t mean they care about Tim’s character enough to do what fits. At this rate it’s gonna be just another DC comic that relies on sudden shocks and changes in desperate attempts at headlines or to please their selfish desires of doing what ever they wanted because that’s all they thought about.
They could even finally allow him to interact with the plot more than once in a substantial way, but when they treat him like he doesn’t matter that much why should I feel like they’re really gonna care about him?
The act of suddenly changing a character randomly is something people do when they do not care about a character.
In fact it’s even something some people do when they dislike or hate a character.
If Jason Todd suddenly became “Finch” with no build up in the story or a quality reason, while he was on another planet, just after they brought back his friends, while getting his story back on track right prior, and in the new story he didn’t even get to choose his own name, it wouldn’t be considered a good story would it? It would feel like they had no idea what they were doing, or they at least didn’t give a crap about him or fan loyalty.
To be honest though, I’m not that upset Tim hasn’t done much as far as the plot so far. It’s very understandable to me. The other characters deserve the page space more than he does. Tim (even if he wasn’t in-character) got to have plenty of page time in other comics compared to them. So that’s not a problem of mine, it’s just a bad sign when adding it up with other stuff.
You don’t get rid of the stuff they used to market the series this soon and have it be a good sign of stuff. That’s something people do as a publicity stunt. Something cheap and scummy.
You don’t have the character do essentially nothing of note by himself in his own spotlight issue that’s supposed to be focused on him and have that be a good sign.
The other character’s spotlight issues told you a lot about them.
What’d Tim’s spotlight issue tell you about him? He loves his girlfriend, he ran away from home with her, and he loves Conner. That’s not much of a personalty showcase like the other ones so far. That’s practically nothing.
Right now he is the most useless and boring part of the team.
So much so that his apparently new costume is brown and gray. Colors that stand for boring and dull, especially or at least together.
It’s starting to feel like a gag at Tim fans expense, because of all those antis that call Tim the boring one.
I’m aware it’s so soon in this comic’s run that it seems hasty to judge, but the signs aren’t lining up well for him. Already doing nothing even in his own spotlight, having his identity changed like it doesn’t matter, not adding a thing to the ongoing plot besides some lines, aren’t, good, signs.
If Tim gets to stay Robin/Red Robin and keep his current costume after all of this, I’m not gonna be upset I made this post complaining about what did not end up happening, because I’d be too focused on being happy that it turned out they did care about the character more than headlines and what practically only they wanted.
Like, Tim hasn’t even been out of character during any of this. The most out of character he’s been is kissing Stephanie so intensely, the rest he’s been fine.
It’s just a lack of care for him.
Even if they’d just left him with the identity he currently has with Robin/Red Robin, while he does nothing important, that’d be a lot more calming, because that at least means they won’t be messing with what got some fans excited. He’d at least be left alone to not be ruined with rushed not-thought-out decisions like they’re building up.
I remember Bendis saying Conner’s gonna be changing his identity too in some upcoming issue, or at least implied it by saying Conner’s gonna talk about Superboy with Jon (what ever that means).
If he messes with his costume too to go back to the T-shirt and jeans, then I’m gonna be even more upset because I know dang well that costume made a heckuva lot of Conner fans happy, to have that taken away from them so soon would be unfair too, and I’m pretty sure he was intended to wear his T-shirt and jeans look this whole time given that they refer to him wearing a shirt when he’s been wearing freaking tights in the actual comic, which been adding up to my fear of that.
Then there’s Bart and Teen Lantern who have been treated even with less respect. While Bart saved the day, he still hasn’t gotten a spotlight issue showing anything important about him, and Teen Lantern has done even less than Tim as far as the plots concerned (although she will be getting a spotlight issue here shortly).
But I understand that, there’s only so much page space, like I said, I’m not even upset Tim hasn’t contributed much to the plot, it’s understandable. It’s just, why couldn’t he have done anything interesting during his own flashback? Why are they messing with him so soon at such a random time when they were making so many fans happy? Why change what’s making a lot of fans feel safe and secure with this comic?
Why can’t Tim Drake be treated with respect?
Earth 33: Outlaws - Jason Todd
Earth 33 is my attempt at rewriting the dc universe. I’m doing this entirely for my own entertainment and as such will be writing what appeals to me. I’m starting this au off with the members of the outlaws, almost all of whom never canonly have been members.
So without farther ado, here’s Jason (This is a long one)
(TW: Death, Drugs, Overdosing, Crime, Vague Allusions to Rape)
Jason Peter Todd was born to Willis and Catherine Todd in a backstreet in Crime Alley. His father a small time crook and his mother drug addicted and unable to take care of him, he was basically left alone emotionally other than the few times Willis made time for his little prince of Gotham. Such as when he pickpocketed two tickets for a flying grayson show.
Willis got arrested on charges of drug use, theft, and grand theft auto. Reportedly he died in a prison riot started by some of Harvey Dents goons. Jason was 8 when this happened and it affected him greatly, he locked himself in his room in the Todd familys beat up tiny apartment for three days till he realized his mother hadn’t gone shopping or even begun to try and hustle any money for bills. He knew then that he’d be taking care of his mother till the day she overdosed like how the neighbors kept saying she would. Pick pocketing and theft became his new way of life but it was beyond stressful for a child of his age, and he was beat up several times by both gang members and police officers who caught him stealing.
He was 10 when his mother died from an overdose, it had been a long day and he was just happy to be able to bring some noodles and dollar store tomato paste home. But as he entered his home of ten years it smelled like how the alleys he always rushed through instead of walking smelled. He set the bags down at the door and rushed to the source of the scent. He got into the cramped kitchen and found his mother, dead. He went into his room and with a vacant expression on his face packed anything he had of value, he knew he couldn’t call 911, the phone service to the house had been cut three months ago, and besides there was no money to give his poor mother a proper burial.
He lived on the streets for the next two years and those two years taught him the way of the street, the distrust, the scrappy fighting that came when you hadn’t ate in three days, the value of a warm meal. Late one night he saw a chance that didn’t come by everyday, the batmobile, unguarded in an alleyway. He could only imagine how much the tires on it would fetch, so yeah he tried to jack the tires off the batmoblie. He was caught by Batman, who took him to get some food and talked with him. He was dropped off at a Wayne funded shelter.
And the next morning something bizarre happened, the people at the shelter let Jason know that there was someone interested in taking him in. He was hesitant at first but agreed to meet this person. A little later Bruce Wayne came in and chatted with Jason who was at first dismissive of the man but warmed up during the conversation, especially when Bruce shared about how he lost his parents when he was around 10. Jason agreed to try out living with him.
He liked it alot to say the least. He ran around the manor stuffing his face full of junk food almost constantly when he first got there till Alfred stepped in, just for his healths stake as a tumble down the long stairs or getting stick off of eating too much wouldn’t be all that fun for the kid. Jason wanted to stay and so stay he would.
Bruce put graves for Jason’s parents in the Wayne family graveyard next to Dick’s parents. Jason was put at ease by finally being able to put them to rest, including his mom’s body that was tracked down in GCP’s system as a yet to be identified body, his father’s body however had not yet been found.
Something that Bruce hadn't accounted for was the fact that Jason was a troubled sleeper, everything else he was doing perfectly with adjusting too, he was doing amazing at school, his checkup only indicated that they might want to give him some multivitamin gummies. But he just couldn’t get to sleep, he was too nervous too, and when he wasn’t too nervous he was too full of energy and trying to use it up doing something. So it was inevitable that he noticed how often Bruce was out at night and how at times he couldn’t find Alfred anywhere.
So when Bruce and Alfred were busy at some glala that didn’t let children in (Side note to myself, write younger Jason at one of these glalas) Jason poked his nose around the house looking for anything hidden. And while pulling books off the shelf in the study he tripped on the carpet and knocked a bust on the desk over, revealing a button. He did what you do when you find a button and he pressed it revealing a firemen pole, which he went down.
He ran around the cave unattended for an hour and when Bruce and Alfred has finally managed to get back home he had managed to put on one of Dick’s old robin costumes and was trying to figure out how to turn on the batmobile. Bruce sat him down and explained everything, and once he was done Jason asked if he could be Robin, and pointed out all his selling points like that his grades were good, he was good at running, he could throw a punch.
Bruce agreed to let him become Robin after a few months of training. Jason would remember his first night as Robin as one of the best of his life, only second to being adopted. His first night they dealt with a few purse snatchers, a mugging, and the crown of the night was a heist being pulled off by The Riddler at an art museum.
He met his brother Dick he and Bruce went to Bludhaven for a weekend due to Wayne Enterprises related business. The three of them met up for lunch on the Saturday and Jason and Dick got along greatly and poked fun at Bruce throughout the whole meal. On Sunday it turned out a mob had made the billanet plan to kidnap Bruce Wayne and hold him for ransom. Nightwing and Robin teamed up to save him and by the end of the adventure Dick gave Jason his phone number and told him to call whenever he’d like.
He was pretty friendless though, at school he was focused on the work and there wasn’t any sidekicks around his age running around Gotham. So Bruce organized the sidekick equivalent of a playdate with Blue Devils on again off again sidekick Kid Devil, also known as Eddie Bloomberg. The two were only supposed to taking down Polka-Dot Man who was planning a robbery. But when they returned to where Batman and Blue Devil were supposed to be figuring out a case with Zatanna at her hotel all they found were scorch marks and a very confused Zachary Zatara who had been in the hotel dining room before hearing a bunch of yelling and coming to investigate.
The events that followed were both chaotic and too long to list here. But for more details you can read here!
A couple years later he had hit the age of 15 and was overall, happy. He had a brother who loved him and checked in on him, he had a penpal who understood the stress of being a sidekick. But he also had lingering problems, anger over the treatment he got as a child and the treatment he saw others get, an empty feeling left by his parents. And what really brought out these feelings was a man by the name of Felipe Garzonas, someone that represented everything he hated. A person who abused his privilege to take advantage of those less fortunate, and then got off thanks to that privilege. Batman and Robin got him arrested but he got out the same day thanks to diplomatic immunity. And the man’s victim, overcome with terror took her own life. So when Jason was left alone with the man on a balcony it didn’t come as a surprise that he didn’t help when Felipe was falling to his death. Though the question of if he was pushed or slipped would never be answered.
Jason’s mental health took a dip due to what had happened and the fact that Bruce was avoiding him, and he called Dick who was having problems of his own at the time. But agreed to take Jason on a teen titan mission or two while his mind lingered on what had happened in Gotham and wandered to his family. But his mind got taken off that by meeting the titans and helping with one of the many smaller problems they had.
But when he got back he couldn’t get his mind off his past, so in an attempt to bring himself more closure on the topic he started looking for his father’s body. But meanwhile The Joker pieced together that one of his goons, was Robin’s father and so a plan was formed. Jason figured out that his father wasn’t dead but had gotten away the day of the riot and was working for The Joker who was planning something off in the alps. And due to the avoidance Bruce was showing to Jason, Jason decided to go out on his own. And we all know how that goes. His body, alongside his father’s was found in the wreckage of the blown up building.
He was laid to rest next to the graves for his parents and finally for the first time in years they were all together. But nothing lasts and Taila Al Ghul, in a bid to have something to use against Bruce in case he found out about Damian prematurely. So she sent one of her other pet projects, Twilight, or better known is Slade Wilson’s missing son Grant Wilson.
When he came out of the Lazarus Pit he was confused and tried to flee and there was some trouble stopping him till Taila tranquilized him. It turned out he had no memory of his life than his own name and the fact he died. He was respective to The League Of Shadows training, he still had the muscle memory from being Robin and was in a mental state that was easy to manipulate. He took to hanging around Grant as he reminded Jason of someone in a couple ways and Grant’s inner big brother came out around Jason.
By years end, Jason had fully integrated with The League and was sent on his first mission. When he had came back from it he had been sobbing but the deed was done. Taila talked with him about what had happened and tried to help him desensitize to the issue, she had grown to care about him and it hurt her to see him like this. After this incident his memories started to return, sparked by the familiar feeling caused by what he had done and the subconscious fear of being ignored again because of it.
He shared what he was remembering with Grant and that only helped to fuel the flame of rage in him. He wasn’t mad that Bruce couldn’t save him, he was angry that Bruce let there be chance the same would happen to another kid by letting The Joker live. He made a plan to try and make Bruce understand and set out on his way. Taila feared for him but did offer the original funds he needed for the plan.
He had his 17th birthday right as he was taking over Gotham’s underground as The Red Hood. It was a quick and hostile take over where he intimidated those he could, and killed those he couldn’t. News of The Red Hood found it’s way to Bruce quickly who was working alone at the time due to Tim being with Young Justice at the time. The drug lords were scared and one even agreed to meet with Batman but before they could give out much information they were shoot sparking a chase through the city where Batman failed to catch Red Hood.
He tracked down The Joker and kidnapped him and while waiting for Batman to arrive did all the things that Joker did to Jason in that warehouse so long ago. When Batman did arrive it became a tense confrontation where Jason revealed himself and demanded to know why the clown still breathed. Bruce answered the way he always did, saying they could not be the judge, jury, and executioner. He ended up forcing Bruce to make a choice, either kill The Joker himself or Jason would do it. Bruce instead threw a batarang at Jason, cutting the side of his neck and then The Joker detonated explosives that had been in the building.
He survived and fled Gotham. He decided to go meet his replacement Tim, he broke into the Young Justice base and kidnapped Robin not wanting to also take on a half kryptonian, speedster, and a demigod. The two fought and Jason mocked his replacement but he wasn’t trying to kill Tim. And when things were looking dicey for Tim, Jason nerve pinched him and left.
He then went off to Bludhaven to bother Dick. Who at the time was dealing with the Court Of Owls and the fact they were stalking him and trying to kidnap him. So when Jason was following him and saw some other shady character was following his brother he started a fight with them. Nightwing very quickly joined the fray between Red Hood and Talon and the two scared them off. Their chat afterwards was awkward to say the least, but weirdly friendly since Jason had just helped Dick and Dick caught on to the fact that Jason had been trained by The League of Shadows.
Dick made an effort to help Jason who he had figured out had been brainwashed during his time with The League of Shadows. And some progress was made. But when they went to Gotham so Jason could try to have a normal-ish conversation with Bruce, it blew up in his face when they had gotten talking about Taila and Jason let it slip that Taila had a son that she said was Bruce’s. Bruce, with no where to direct his feelings on the matter, got cross with Jason for not telling him sooner and the two started arguing. It ended when Jason pulled a gun on Bruce and Dick knocked him out with some sleeping gas.
Jason spent a month in Arkham and was beyond angry, he was angry at Bruce for taking out his complicated emotions on him and he was mad at Dick fortaking Bruces side. He had been admitted under an assumed name as a non criminal resident so he was being kept away from where the violent offenders were. Which was for the best, if he had been anywhere near The Joker it wouldn’t have been pretty. He got out when Tim bribed Arkham to let him out. Jason thanked his younger brother and asked about why he did that and Tim explained that the reason Jason was in there wasn’t fair, and besides he was mad at Bruce as Damian just showed up and stole the Robin name. Jason offered to get Tim a drink but he rejected pointing out the were both underage.
It wasn’t long after that he turned 18. He was headed out of a gas station with the first legal box cigarettes he had ever bought that he got a call from Dick asking him to come to the cave, it was important. So he did, everyone did. And it was a grim affair as Bruce had died. Jason didn’t handle his grief well and left the cave before he could hear the message that was left for him. He left Gotham city as well, both because he needed some space from the situation and because he knew that there was about to be a fight over who would wear the cowl.
He went to LA and met up with an old friend, Eddie Bloomberg who was acting as part time tech support for the Teen Titans. The two had a happy, tearful reunion. Jason, who was crashing on Eddie’s couch for the moment continued his work as Red Hood but it was mellowed out. There was a combination of reasons for this, Dick’s support (even though it had been withdrawn), not wanting Bruce’s ghost judging him, and trying to get in a better mental space and not throw away the chance he had.
After Bruce had came back Jason went back to Gotham, and they hashed things out, by no means were they on the same page, they probably never would be again. But Bruce was willing to offer Jason a place in the batfamily as long as he agreed not to kill anyone, and Jason was willing to agree.
Jason and Stephanie got to know each other pretty well since they were given the chance finally. And they got along greatly. It was a nightmare for Bruce however as he had snark coming left and right. Jason also got to know Cass better and they had a couple things to relate on. And for the first time in three years he was finding happiness in his family life.
But again, nothing lasts for forever. Jason late one night while on patrol noticed someone had broken into the penthouse of a well respected lawyer. And he found Twilight was the intruder and it was no mistake that he caught him. The League wanted him back and weren’t willing to take no for an answer, and Grant felt it was personal. So the ensuing argument was intense and by the end the fight had found it’s way onto the top of Wayne tower where Grant misstepped and fell to his seeming death, and worse batman had seen the end of the fight and given prior events including falling to death and Jason Bruce didn’t trust that it was an accident and banished Jason from the city till things were more clear.
Out on his own yet again he decided to form a team and work on the move, no superhero wants the murdery batfamily member in their city for long. So he got on his bike and he went back to LA.
Headcanon For Fanfic
This is a long post that’ll serve to introduce Rivens’ home planet, new characters and the headcanons of characters.
Aergon
The planet is set afar from most planets in the magical universe. The ground is mostly a kobicha colour with splats of tyrian purple and raw umber. The oceans are Alice Blue and Atlantic wave. The planet has a ring of amethyst and ash gray clouds that contain blue and yellow crystals.
Travelers often miss or don’t see it due to it having a magical force field about 20 000 km that hides the planet. The people are referred to as Aergons.
Cities
Aergon has 3 main cities
Gaza
Is the biggest of the cities, housing over 35 million people. The city is ruled by the Regierung (the government) and the king Ganon and the future king Alucard. The city in renowned for it’s lavish lifestyle. Also the main housing for the Royal family.
It’s separated into 3 zones.
Zone 1 - Is of Aristocrats and high priests
Zone 2 - Is White Cloaks,Dracons, Withes and Military Personal
Zone 3 - Fairies, Fae ,Common People
Paloma
This city is a heavily faith filled city ruled by the High priests and the Fae .The Fae are the monks of the Goddess and mother Hecate.They mostly live in the city Paloma as they receive same treatment as those of nobility. It also has a high amount of dracons and military personal. It is the main facility for Grims’ Gaurds and temples.
It’s seperated into 3 cities.
Zone 1 - Aristocrats, Clergymen
Zone 2 - Fae, Dracons, Military Personal
Zone 3 - Common People, Fairies
Opia
Is a city that’s just starting to build. It’s undetermined whether what type of city it’ll be. So far though it seems to be a city that is fully controlled city by the Military and Royal supporters.
Children can be made in a manner of three magical ways. Not ranked in popularity
1.The couple goes to a holy temple to fetch holy clay from the ancestral pit. If the ancestors approve of the union of the couple they will give them clay.The couple mold the clay into a baby in likeness of them. Both cut their thumbs to place blood on the temple of the baby in which will absorb the blood making the clay a living baby
2.The second is if a couple goes to a healer. In which the healer will take a small part of their souls and join them into one.The healer will then place the conjoined souls into the decided carrier.
3.This is mainly for couples with fertile issues or of the same sex. Their is a potion which will allow them to conceive and carry a child. This potion is dangerous as most don’t carry to full term and the carriers often die after the birth.
Notes: Domino and Aergon have always had bad relations while Aergon has okay relations with Eraklyon and Lynphea.
Royal Family Line
Myth says the Royal family were born out of iron ore after the Goddess of Magic,Hecate.Wiped the previous inhabitants of Aergon (why Gaza has it’s ruins) to form her own magically inclined people.The royal family live longer than their people as they drink a gold liquor that allows them to live for centuries longer than their subjects.Their has only been about 6 generations of the family.
Note: This is also why Riven was initially interested in Darcy, before she cast a love spell on him after he realized he wasn’t into her.
https://www.familyecho.com/?p=NFGXD&c=rocavuowla&f=387667439928417678
I tried to get pictures of the line to work,but I got annoyed and gave up.
To be King has to be born on 31st of October at 3 in the morning.
Protection for Aergon (apart from the military)
The Kings’ Circle, the protection force for the king and his family. Consists of witches,fairies dracons and the krees. Their emblem is a black circle with gold crossing it out horizontally.
Grims’ Gaurds,they work for Mortimer who is the husband of Tabitha the granddaughter of Pluto, The King Of Man,who was a powerful Sedir. These guards are sworn to protect the people from beasts (wendigos,minotaur and leshy) and protecting magical creatures in the name of the Goddess, Katerina of beasts and magical creatures.
White Cloaks,the guards and protectors of Aergon that has anything do with magic. They consist only of witches,warlocks with the exception of Estelle & Gwen.
Species on Aergon
Null, are humans with no magical ability. These people cover the majority of the population. They often are within the middle class or lower class. Only a few are within the wealthy minority.
Dracons, these people are believed to be descendants of dragons. They are often are tanned,tall with straight hair. They are physically stronger than the null. They often have issues with their emotions often being cold or having no control with their powers. They live in the middle class or nobility often take jobs within The Kings Circle,Grims’ Gaurds or the Military.Note: Rivens father was a Dracon before being turned to stone by Cassandra.
Kree, a minority of people who are half Dracons and Warlocks/Witches encouraged by the government. They often excel with their physical strengths or with their magical powers. Some can excel in both, but it’s not common. Note: Riven is a Kree,but he excels in his magic even though he’s been cursed which doesn’t allow him not to access a lot of his powers.
Fairies, Are looked down upon for their magic,seems no consequence and wild with their use,easy to obtain. Their are two notable fairies on Fairy of Chaos,Estelle and the Fairy of Wind, Gwen. They mostly live in the middle class or lower class.
New Characters (come with headcanon)
Glinda, The Fairy of Stars. She is Stella’s cousin on her mother’s side. She works for La Mode magazine as an editor, that’s how she was able to get Stella the internship.
She has icy blonde hair with thick brown eyebrows (dyed them), small pink lips and amber eyes. She’s tall and has an athletes body since she has broad shoulders.
Alucard, comes from a long line of pure blooded witches and warlocks. He has been announced to be king due to his birthday being on the 31st of October born directly at 3. His reasoning to choose Riven as consort is high controversial in court and to the family. Not because they can’t have kids together,but due to Riven being cursed he’s an unsuitable person to marry. He older than Riven by 3 centuries.
Alucard basically looks like Atticus Rhodes from Yu-Gi-Oh GX ,but with Alucard of Hellsing hairstyle. He also has dark amber eyes which he hides under a mask due to his blindness of magical reasoning,it’s not permanent. Also has a dark smile
Nabora, As old as Cloud Tower Nabora has spent her lifetime with the attempt of being immortal by sucking the lives out of her partners. Although of her high place in society she’s looked down upon due to her fairy blood.
Character Headcanon’s
So in the comics it mentions that they’re supposed attend Alfea for 5 years. So that means they should be done at 21 when they graduate.But if a fairy wants to get honours for their magic they need to spend an additional 2 years at the school teaching and going on missions.
Riven: This is gonna be a long as fuq post cause it features a lot of history.
Riven comes from the Aristocratic family from Paloma. The child of Lord Nicklaus, a dracon and Zatanna a powerful witch from a low class family Kree Riven. They had a loveless marriage as Nicklaus had a strew of mistresses and Zatanna focused too much on her magic for either to focus on a young Riven.
At the age of 4 his mother began having magical breakdowns in which her magic is overpowering her making her physically and magically weak. This has also made her have an obsession over making herself powerful. Riven has only witnessed a few of these moments. This caused Klaus to restrict her presence in the household and to send her off for an unknown time to a temple.
After two years of not seeing his mother she returns as cold as she usually is. His parents marriage remains the same and her magic although controlled at times overpowers her due to her practice of Necromancy. After spending the day with another aristocratic household he returns one day to his mothers eyes being completely white, her blonde hair unruly in a mess of knots and overly brushed hair and grey skin.
She places a curse over him, why his hair is magenta, and locks him in a trunk suitcase.The nanny witnessing this sends a magical emergency telegram to a Temple close which houses the White Cloaks before Zatanna turns her to dust. The White Cloaks arrive with Grims Gaurds (Nicklaus is a part of this team) and turns most of the Cloaks and Gaurds into stone statues.
But Nicklaus stabs her and a wizard named Namath stops her from taking Riven who is in the trunk suitcase. Leaving Riven traumatized and an orphan as his father was turned into a stone statue too. He is then raised by Namath a White Cloak who has a high position within the faith. Reason being is that Namath recognizes that Riven holds a lot of magic within himself, but is unable to access the power.
At age 16, Riven is sent to attend Red Fountain although it’s part of his training to join Grims Guard. Riven is very secretive at school as most Aergons who leave home world. Now we follow Winx canon for a while. After the death of Nabu,his closest friend Riven is sent a letter to return home.
Riven returns to Aergon and immediately joins Grims Gaurds. During the two years Riven is put into a team with Nabora (half witch and half fairy) who is close to age as the creation of Cloud Tower and Castiel a strong warlock from Paloma. Until the soon to be King Alucard, betroths himself to Riven.
Riven although not wanting to be engaged attempts to be in a proper relationship with him whether it be one of companionship or love. He chooses one of love not wanting a situation like his mother. Two years into his duty Mortimer sends Riven and his team to Magix to return magical creatures and using the discovery of a ruin building located in Magix for their official reasoning of being there.
Rivens’ new hairstyle, I personally can’t stand that troll hairstyle with a point especially since it’s been around for like 15 years. Also I do think this will suit his face and personality now. Since he is a calmer person now who at times still does get angry.
Rivens’ Headpiece was given to him in sign of his engagement to Alucard. They don’t wear rings until marriage and even then they wear bands of gold,silver,copper and platinum on their right arrm most of the times to show their married status.
Stella: Although Stella loves designing and clothes in general she’s realized she prefers working behind a desk. And although it does seem out of character she’s managed to convince her cousin, Glinda, to get her an internship at La Mode magazine. She has all the time to do what she wants the most in life with her coronation being moved to her 26th birthday.
Bloom: Being away on Domino has surely helped her the first weeks of her and Sky being on a break. All she wants to do is get back in the art studio, spend time with her friends and finish getting her honours.
Tecna: Tecna’s life is mostly planned out on calendars with chores put in built points. Heck she and Timmy scheduled their breakup two months in advance. Tecna loves her plans and gets mildly annoyed when someone ruins them especially if that person is Glinda who for the better part of a year has been getting on her nerves.
(Also Tecna’s hair has been genetically altered. Since she’s from Zenith the technology to change certain parts of yourself without magic or surgery is possible i.e Height and bone structure. Also I’m gonna let Tecna be a princess here cause in the comics she is one)
Musa: Over the years she’s put herself and her singing career on hold to finish her honours for her fathers sake. Since she’s going to get her honours soon ,she’s so excitied to get back onto the stage. She’s been seeing a guy called Kaden a man from Earth who she met at the Juice bar. She likes , she really likes him,but she doesn’t think it’s gonna work out with her lying to him constantly.
(What I mean by this is she hasn’t told him she’s a fairy and that she’s planning to on being a solo artist. He knows she’s a teacher since her class had a trip to visit earth.)
Aisha/Layla: Her home planet is divided into two kingdoms and although her parents make it seem easy for both kingdoms to co-exist it’s really stressing her out. It also doesn’t help that her and Nex aren’t the best and the stress of obtaining her honours is really stressing her.
Flora: She’s excited for her studies to come to an end. Especially since her and Helia are planning to get married over the spring and with Flora joining the high council of fairies in Lynphea. Life couldn’t be any better.
Sky: With his impending coronation coming soon he’s chosen to take a break this off with Bloom for a while. He think’s it’ll be the best for him to focus on him becoming King and squash a rebellion.
Brandon: Has always stuck to Sky’s side and he’s fine with that. What he isn’t fine with is him being given a position in Sky’s royal court.
Timmy: He doesn’t know much of himself. He doesn’t know what he likes or who he is. He’s always followed a plan that wasn’t meant for him. He wants to live his own life.
Helia: He’s happy with his life and the upcoming wedding. What he’s not happy with is his father, who not only disproves of his relationship ,but also wants him to be with Krystal.
I was wondering if you get a chance, you can do a "just stay away" story with dad constantine and Raven, please? I need another feels fix!
Oops it was “just stay awake”! So that… or either…. or both… whatever you want!
idk what it was abt this, but this… gave me motivation to start ACTUALLY writing some of the conclusion to Arkham Exorcism. its a beginning of the end, mind you, and its meant to be a means to start bringing everything together. it’ll more than likely change as well when it all comes together in editing…
but have this fun little snippet for now. with a surprise side of mama zatara as well!
…
They’d been running on fumes by this time of the night. Even with the long hours that Constantine usually kept, he would have to admit to slipping eventually.
But not just yet.
He glanced around the main hall of the mansion, checking for further signs of spirits and possibilities of barriers. Traps and countermeasures would need to be placed soon, but his main priority right now was moving his family into a safe place.
Or at least a safer one. The safest that they could manage that would help them complete this damned mission, once and for all.
He made a motion with his hand for them to follow his lead, and kept his eyes forward and wits about him.
Despite the fitful nap that they’d shared earlier in the night, Raven’s eyelids only seemed to grow heavier. It was sheer exhaustion for her, keeping this pace with her parents, being continuously attacked from all sides by the roiling emotions of all of those spirits. And yet here she was, insisting on seeing the mission through, and staying up well past even her (usually very generous) bedtime.
And John and Zee both letting her, almost in spite of their better judgement.
They should’ve taken her home after that first attack.
They should’ve called in for reinforcements after the disastrous trip into Intensive Treatment.
They should’ve turned tail and ran when given the opportunity to do so, with no repercussions from the spirits of this damned hellhole of an island.
And yet they’d all insisted on staying. Each of them refusing to budge on the matter until the only way to move, was forward.
And here they were. Back where they’d started. At Arkham Mansion once more.
Shadows slowly started to dance, picking up a pace with reckless abandon on the inner walls of the hall. They were feeling unafraid, and bold enough to show more of themselves as the witching hour drew nearer and nearer.
Zatanna gave her daughter a gentle shake as she felt her grip around her neck loosen, feeling the girl beginning to nod off on her back. She’d been carrying her piggy-back style all the way from the Gardens, and her arms were starting to shake from the strain.
The girl certainly was no longer the small, blank-faced five-year-old that had first appeared in John’s apartment all those years ago.
“Just stay awake,” Zatanna nearly whispered, shaking her daughter once more. “Just stay awake a little longer, and we’ll have things wrapped up before you know it, my little blackbird.”
Raven tightened her grip at the sound of the nickname, a small fear squashed as she brought herself closer to Zee’s ear.
“Mommy, could you sing it for me, please?” she sleepily begged, “I won’t go to sleep if you’re singing for me.”
“Go on, Zee,” John encouraged, not turning back as he pulled a candle from his coat and muttered an incantation under his breath. With the blessing finished, he spoke up one more time, “Wouldn’t hurt to try. Gotta keep the bugger awake somehow.”
“Alright. But if you start snoring, I’m never singing for you again. Understood?” Raven’s only answer was a firm nod that Zatanna could feel along her back.
She adjusted the girl in her arms once more before starting, soft and low, “Blackbird singing in the dead of night…”
At the sound of her voice, the shadows wavered, shrinking back in the unfamiliar presence of the music and magic in Zatanna’s voice. She finished a verse, and Raven tapped her shoulder, letting her know she felt awake enough to walk once more. She continued singing softly for the girl, however, as they drew closer to the same room they’d been so violently separated in.
Spirits grew restless once more as the song closed, and as violence began to ring in the air in it’s place. Ghosts and misdeeds of the past were nearly tangible once more along the walls. The atmosphere was nearly electric with spiritual energy.
Up in the room ahead of them, a demon was waiting, eager to reveal itself at it’s fullest.
None too distantly, the Mansion’s bell tower struck the hour. Three strong, deafening tolls.
THE COMPLICATED HISTORY OF RAVEN
Sara Century
@saracentury
Jun 27, 2019
Trigger warning: Raven’s backstory includes depictions of torture that will be discussed in this article.
Appearing as a central character not only in Teen Titans Go! but also in the live action TV series for DC Universe, Raven is a character with a lot of recent attention but a great deal of unknown history as well. Her origin is far from a simple and takes a lot more explaining than your standard DC comics backstory.
While it’s great that Raven is a complicated character with a lot of background, there’s a significant amount of uncharted territory in her story. That, combined with a lot of weird creative choices, lack of consistency in writing, and more retcons than you can shake a stick at, and you have one of DC’s most versatile concepts, as well as one of its most convoluted histories.
New Teen Titans #1, written by Marv Wolfman, art by George Perez, Romeo Tanghal, and Adrienne Roy, lettering by Ben Oda
The first appearance of Raven was in DC Comics Presents #26, alongside other new characters like Cyborg and Starfire, with Beast Boy (then going by Changeling), Robin leading the team, and Kid Flash along for the ride. She was attempting to build an army to defend Earth against her demon father Trigon, although she didn’t mention that to the team she assembled. Initially, she went to the Justice League for help, but Zatanna sensed her demonic heritage and advised the JLA against trusting her. Raven instead brought the Titans together ostensibly to battle against an amorphous space creature. They become a team without questioning her too much, which in the long run turns out to be a mistake. Specifically, Kid Flash is obsessed with her, although later we learn that she was likely manipulating his emotions to ensure he would protect her from her father. This is not the only time Raven would struggle with the concept of consent. While it makes sense considering how and where she was raised, her treatment of the Titans is not always great.
One of the most interesting things about Raven is that she comes from a pacifist society and has no interest in fights. She very much avoids them whenever possible, although in some issues her aggression shows through. In New Teen Titans #30, the villainous Brotherhood corners her in a church, and she immediately assures them she’s ready to fight to the death and prepares to attack. They, particularly the member Phobia who can control fears by inducing nightmarish hallucinations, respond with some surprise, used to a much more passive character. Phobia insists that they fight outside instead, and they end up capturing Raven. In #31, she is tormented by Phobia and sent into a deep dream in which she’s being pulled apart by hands. By the end of the story, she very nearly kills herself to avoid losing control over herself but is barely saved by the Titans.
New Teen Titans #31, written by Marv Wolfman, art by George Perez, Romeo Tanghal, and Adrienne Roy, lettering by Bob Oda
Raven continually drops hints about her origin but takes a long time to fully reveal her story. Her mother, Arella, had been part of a small cult that worshipped a demon named Trigon, although Arella was in way over her head and didn’t understand that they planned to sacrifice her to him. The demon took her by force, and a traumatized Arella eventually gave birth to Raven. Raven was then raised by a person named Azar in the dimension Azarath. Azar taught her to be in control of her powers and emotions at all times, lest her empathy be weaponized against her and indeed everyone around her. In her late teens, Raven discovered that Trigon planned to destroy Earth and that he intended to use her to do it. By the Titans realize this, Raven had become fully possessed by her father.
Raven was presumed dead or at least missing for a time, then reemerged enthralled to Brother Blood. At this time, Raven took to wearing all white rather than the bluish-grey costume she had made her first appearance in, and she made some efforts to regain her innocence while also trying to assimilate to society for the first time in her life. She became friends with Jericho, another troubled soul who would later deal with his own father issues and die while possessed. They kind of had a lot in common, and while we don't see them interact much at this point, their friendship was always a deeply felt one.
For a long time, Raven went evil, died, and came back from the dead more often than even Jean Grey. Through several retcons and reboots, we repeated her possession by her father and her enthrallment to Brother Blood, but some positive changes in her character began to slowly emerge. She began dating Beast Boy, who was never a great match for her emotionally but did what he could to care for and protect her. Most importantly, his concern for her came from a genuine place and wasn’t something she had to manipulate him into. She took on the civilian identity Rachel Roth and attempted to attend high school. She allowed herself to look away from her troubled interior life and actually interact with people. In short, although it was a long time coming, Raven has slowly begun to humanize and socialize herself, and over several years it has led to an actual positive change in her life and in her outlook.
Everything about Raven’s responses makes her read as someone with a long history of trauma. Her highly specific fear of her father is fascinating, and relatable for a lot of people that grew up with bad dads. In her early days, Raven fully acknowledged that her best case scenario was to die defending the world rather than become the monster that helped bring about its destruction. When she died (repeatedly) in a battle against her father, she was fulfilling the prophecy everyone around her had been telling her since her early childhood. As a character without a future, Raven’s ability to make connections or have stability in her life suffered and helped to cause her ultimate collapse. Again, for people that have been in some way forced to constantly choose between their fight or flight response and their desire to make real connections in life, Raven is a beacon.
Titans #5, written by Judd Winick, art by Julian Lopez, Rodney Ramos, and Edgar Delgado, lettering by Rob Clark JR
Raven was born from an act of violence. Like so many children of abuse, she was raised with a great deal of emotional baggage from day one. Her mother feared her and feared for her, so she gave her away to be raised by Azar, a spiritual leader that offered little emotional warmth. She never truly had a mother figure, save for the person that advised and trained her not to show affection or emotion lest the world collapse around her. Raven was born into trauma, and her bizarre antisocial behavior and thorny vulnerability indicated that from the start. The constant state of fear that she exists in, terrified of becoming her father, is almost impossible to even fully imagine... unless you've gone through something similar yourself.
On the other hand, Raven remains a strange type of role model in the valiant way she denies what others perceive to be her inescapable fate. Despite existing in a constant state of anxiety and being broken down by various villains, again and again, she always seems to put herself back together, and her past self only exists as a piece of a puzzle that she’s still trying to form. Children that suffer trauma at early ages often have great difficulty forming friendships and assimilating to society as they come of age. Raven is an interesting character because we get to watch her as she makes those efforts, and as such, she can serve as a beacon to people that are suffering and likewise flailing towards some sense of wholeness they have yet to possess.
Tara Strong on how Teen Titans Go! is a 'spiritual continuation' of the original series
Jul 26, 2018
More recently, in Teen Titans Go!, we’ve seen a Raven who is dark and weird but genuine, optimistic, and funny, which indicates a great deal of character growth from the nervous, unbearably shy character we’ve been seeing in comics for decades now. Wherever Raven goes as a character, it’s important to remember her willpower and her slowly developed and dry sense of humor as being as tantamount to her character as her trauma could ever be. It is most important for readers that have experienced massive amounts of suffering at young ages to be able to portray her trauma without obsessively retreading her deepest pain issue after issue. Above all, Raven has grown from who she once was, and it is that evolving maturity that makes her such an important character to the Titans.
