"So?" The man raised an eyebrow at Kleitos' words. Then his smile dropped. "It's just me being nice. But if you're not interested…" Obviously losing interest in telling them a secret, he sat back in his chair and made his move on the board.

"We are interested." When Conláed's voice cut in, the man raised his eyes again.

"We… we're just new and a lot of things are still foreign to us. It would be good to know how to find our way around." The prince had the feeling that the conversation was taking an unsatisfactory turn, so he hoped his intervention would bring it back on track.

One of the men next to Conláed began to laugh, shaking his shoulders up and down. "What Zoltan's actually trying to say he is just--" A snap sounded and the man stopped in mid-sentence, no longer moving.

It seemed as if he had suddenly frozen, and when Conláed looked around, the same had happened to everyone else. Music and voices had gone out, everything around them stood still. Only he, Kleitos and the man who appeared to be Zoltan were still able to move.

Startled, the prince jumped to his feet. "What have you done…?!"

Zoltan, who seemed the least surprised as the originator of the whole thing, just laughed smugly. "Magic." Then he stood up and walked around the table.

Passing Kleitos and Conláed, however, he had another target in mind. A nondescript couple sitting in a corner by the window, frozen in time. "I'll show you something."

Pulling the woman's sleeve slightly over her wrist, he revealed something like a tattoo there, a black mark on her skin. "Vertrock makes sure that none of his minions can ever dare to escape. A mark that binds them to the kingdom forever. You see that and you know. These two will earn me a nice sum of money." Laughing, he patted the frozen man on the shoulder before walking back to the table.

With a contented sigh, Zoltan sat back down. "The secret was for nothing, a gift for the strangers. The next one won't be. And if you're interested, you know where to find me. You see I'm just…"

With a flick of his finger, time ran on and the man next to Conláed finished his sentence. "…a harmless merchant. Dumb as a mule, but don't you dare mess with him."

He laughed and when he realized that Conláed was suddenly standing next to him instead of sitting, he widened his eyes. "What the fuck are you doing?"

Kleitos was getting an uneasy feeling about this man and the way he was speaking but he simply smirked slightly. "Funny you asked us to join you as newbies in town if you can't trust anyone here," he pointed out. "Also interesting to offer secrets to strangers..." He wasn't going to stop him, but he was acting weird as hell and he was making it known that he thought he was acting weird.

If Nastka was a supernatural being, what kind of being would he be?

Nastka would probably be Satan himself, the embodiment of temptation and manipulation. I am trying to write him as a being who wields his silver tongue like a sword - tongue that can twist words in ways that pull you in, with that eerie, almost hypnotic love he exudes—a love that feels both enchanting and suffocating. There’s an unspoken gentleness in him, a softness that seems kind at first glance, but beneath it, something darker festers. It’s as though this gentleness is merely a veil hiding violence, a storm of violations that has been carefully concealed from the world. If not Satan, then he’s like Gaunter o'Dim, the Man of Glass, a figure who hides his true nature behind a charming smile, making dangerous pacts with people, offering them something they desire in exchange for their very souls. His power would be subtle, masked in the ordinary, yet profoundly dangerous, always with a sinister twist lurking in the shadows.

Many people, though not everyone, feel an inexplicable sense of sorrow for Satan. It’s a strange, almost taboo emotion that goes unspoken, suppressed by centuries of religious doctrine. After all, how could one feel sympathy for the ultimate villain, the deceiver of mankind? Yet, beneath the fear and revulsion, that sorrow lingers. In the same way, I like to think that while not many, perhaps a few, feel a quiet, lingering pity for Nastka. It’s an emotion they can’t quite explain, just a sensation that gnaws at them.

Why would anyone feel sorry for him? Maybe it’s because of his childhood—some part of his past that shaped him into the creature he is today. Perhaps it’s the weight of his intense love, a love so fierce it borders on tragic, devouring him from the inside out. It’s as though he is driven by an emotion so powerful, so consuming, that it leads him down darker and darker paths. Even this pity is wrapped in mystery, as if those who feel it are uncertain themselves why they do. Is it because of what he became, or because of what he might have been if things had been different? This feeling, like everything about him, is embraced by the unknown, wrapped in shadows, leaving us to wonder: why do we pity him, and what does that pity reveal about the darkness within him—or within ourselves?

Geraskier AU plotbunnies

so I may or may have not gonna on an absolute binge of @spielzeugkaiser​​ amazing AU'S while at work and i may have been quite terribly inspired by these AU's (particularly the necromancer and prophet ones, the latter of which may have DESTROYED ME) and it got me thinking of the following AU:

First think 'The devil went down to Georgia'

now think 'Master Mirror went down to Redenia'

now think of Geralts absolute horror when he just walks into a random inn to get some fucking food and sees Jaskier chatting up Gaunter O'dimm who catches his eye and is all like :)))))

TLDR Jaskier was bragging he could outbard anyone on any instrument (particularly that Valdo Marx) and O'Dim was like 'wager?' and the dude has a pretty golden lute that Jaskier gets to keep if (WHEN) he wins so of course he already said yes and there's nothing Geralt can do about it- Except the lute is not gold pleated. It's solid gold. jaskier thinks this is ridiculous, who would even-

O'dimm woluld. He plays it. it’s not the best Jaskier’s heard but it’s more than decent considering that shit is LITERAL SOLID GOLD.

Jaskier loses, immediately, and Geralt just shoulders in like  nononono, I'll do you another favor just forget the bard, he has nothing to do with this and O'dim is like 'no'  :)))

out of desperation Geralt tries to trade places but he’s refused so he ends up wagering his own soul just to give Jaskier an extension so he can practice with the gold lute and try again with Jaskier falling off his daze because GERALT NO YOU CAN'T PLAY ON A SOLID GOLD LUTE THAT’S NEVER GONNA SOUND DECENT WTF-

Now Jaskier has (a month?two?) to learn to play a golden lute while freaking out because for once in his life he knows how impossible this is, every time he tries to play the thing he gets hurt and there is no way to practice enough, build the kind of callouses he'd need to play accurately, let alone WELL, much less in the alloted time... and there's nothing Geralt can do to help because this is not something he can fix or fight.

in the end, SOMEHOW, Jaskier does it. He shreds his fingers and the lute strings are soaked in blood but he plays for Geralts life and is like 'I told you once you son of a bitch, I'm the best that's ever been!'

some notes:

this AU is placed in some nebulous mix of all universes, so posada happened and the mountain definitely happened but also a bunch of game quests, but also Geralt didn’t die like in the books and i think he and Jaskier have not seen each other since their fight so in between both of them freaking out over the wager they don’t know how to treat each other.

yes this is 100% revenge torture intended for Geralt. O'dimm wanted him there and wanted to him to see him making that wager too late to stop him and spend weeks hauling ass across the continent desperate for a way to undo the wager knowing there isn't one.

The original wager was that if Jaskier won he'd keep the lute and if he lost, O'dimm wanted gto get 'his mouth'. Jaskier thought it was some sort of kinky euphemism. Geralt, remembering the caretaker the Von Everc state knows it's not.

Geralt can't believe they won this relatively easy.
