Quiz Nights & Karaoke Nights in Cambridge
We at The Brook Indian Gastro Pub in Cambridge think that going out to eat is about more than just getting great food. We believe it's about making memories, having fun, and spending time with family and friends. To give our guests more than just a meal, we have a fun Quiz Night in Cambridge every Wednesday and a Karaoke Night in Cambridge every other Friday. The point of these events is to have fun and bring people together in a lively and fun way.
Let's examine what makes Quiz Nights and Karaoke Nights at The Brook such a popular part of Cambridge's nightlife.
Quiz Night in Cambridge: At Brook Indian Gastro Pub
What's Quiz Night?
A quiz night is a social event where people get together in groups to answer questions from different categories. The goal is to win prizes and, of course, the honour of being the best. Teams have to think quickly and work together in this battle of quizzes, facts, and knowledge. We have the best Quiz Nights in Cambridge at The Brook, which are a fun way to spend a Wednesday night, whether you're a trivia fanatic or just looking for something to do. The atmosphere is relaxed but lively, and anyone can join in.
Our Quiz Nights happen every Wednesday at The Brook Indian Gastro Pub starting at 8 PM. Trivia fans from all over Cambridge come together for a night of fun, friendly competition, and hard questions.
What Should You Expect at Quiz Night?
The Atmosphere:
Think about this: Around the cosy table where you and your friends are sitting are other trivia fans and casual quizzers. You all have drinks in your hands and are excited. Our quiz nights have a friendly, open vibe that's great for both first-timers and people who have been to quiz nights before. As the night goes on, you'll be swept up in the excitement, arguing with your team about the right answer and joining the cheers when you get a tough question right.
The Quizmaster:
Our charming quizmaster isn't just there to ask questions; they're what the event is all about. They make sure everyone is having a great time by joking around and setting the mood. Our quizmaster makes sure that there are questions that are easy, medium, and hard so that everyone can find something they can use.
The Questions:
At The Brook's Quiz Nights, you can expect a lot of different types of questions from history to pop culture to sports and more. You might be asked to remember obscure facts about sitcoms from the 1990s, to test your geography skills, or to argue about a difficult song lyric. No matter how good you are at trivia or just want to have fun, our quizzes are made so that everyone can enjoy them.
Spirit of the Team:
Teams work together on Quiz Nights at The Brook. You can make a team with your friends, or if you're by yourself, we'll help you find a group of other quiz fans. Quiz nights are so much fun because you have to work with other people to answer hard questions. Teamwork is important because you don't have to know everything there is to know about every subject. Someone on your team might know the answer you don't.
Prizes:
What's a quiz night without prizes? The biggest prize is beating your opponents and feeling good about it, but we also have some nice prizes for the winning team. Every time a winner comes home, they get something special. It could be free food, drinks, or gift certificates.
Food and Drinks:
The Brook's tasty food and drinks are a must for any night out. Whether you're having one of our famous Indian-inspired dishes or a craft beer, our menu goes well with the lively atmosphere of quiz night. While you take the test, eat some Szechuan Shrimp Lettuce Cups or Mini Masala Dosas.
Karaoke Night in Cambridge: Brook Indian Gastro Pub
What Are Karaoke Nights?
You can let loose, have fun, and belt out your favourite songs at karaoke nights. People can interact with the entertainment by singing along to popular songs while seeing the words on a screen. People all over the world love to sing, and at The Brook Indian Gastro Pub, we bring the party to you every other Friday starting at 8:30 PM with Karaoke Nights in Cambridge.
Karaoke Night in Cambridge at The Brook is a great way to let out your inner rock star, no matter how experienced you are as a performer or how often you sing in the shower. It's not about being perfect; it's about having fun, singing your heart out, and enjoying the company of other people who are going through the same thing.
What Can You Expect at Karaoke Night?
The Stage Is Yours:
Everyone is welcome to take the stage at The Brook because we make it a calm and friendly place. Whether you're singing by yourself or with a group, the mood is all about having fun and not being a professional. The mic is ready, the stage is set, and the crowd is always excited and supportive. Don't be shy—now is your chance to shine!
Choice of Song:
There are a lot of songs to choose from at our Karaoke Nights, from old hits to new chart-toppers. We have what you're looking for, whether you want to listen to Queen, Adele, or an old Bollywood hit. You can sing your favourite ballads, groove to 80s hits, or even get nostalgic with some old hits. There are hundreds of songs to choose from. Everyone can find something they like in music.
The Crowd:
The friendly and lively crowd is one of the best things about Karaoke Nights at The Brook. The energy is always good, whether you're singing or cheering other people on. The crowd laughs, cheers, and supports, so you can be as crazy or calm as you want without worrying about what other people think. The whole point is to enjoy yourself and enjoy the fun of the moment.
Solos and performance by groups:
Karaoke isn't just for one person! Invite your friends to join you on stage for a spectacular duet or group show. Singing with other people can help you get over stage fright and make it more fun as you try to harmonize (or very badly fail to harmonize) with your friends. A great way to please everyone is to sing a group song with your friends. Put on a show that everyone will remember.
Karaoke nights with themes:
We sometimes like to mix things up by having themed karaoke nights where people are asked to sing songs from a certain era, genre, or theme. Our themed karaoke nights, like "80s Night" and "Special Songs," make the fun even more exciting. Check our event calendar to see when these nights are!
Competition that is fun:
Even though Karaoke Nights are just for fun, we do have competitions every once in a while where the winner gets a prize. There are always prizes to be won, whether it's for hitting those high notes, having the best stage presence, or putting on the funniest show. If you want to shine in front of everyone, don't forget to bring your A-game!
Why Attend The Brook Quiz and Karaoke Nights:
A Fun Way to Spend Time With Others:
Quiz Nights and Karaoke Nights are both great ways to meet new people, whether you're chatting over trivia questions or cheering on a karaoke performance. That's the best way to stay in touch with friends or meet new people.
Take a break and have fun:
After a long week, what could be better than singing your favourite song or taking a fun quiz? For everyone, it's just about having fun in a relaxed setting.
Food and drinks that taste great:
Our Indian Gastro Pub Food has an Indian-inspired menu and many different drinks to choose from to make your night better. We'll take care of you whether you want to snack during the quiz or drink cocktails while singing.

Indian Tapas Food in Royston | Indian Gastro Pub Food in Royston
Exploring Tapas: Indian vs. British
The little portions of Spanish tapas have gone global, impacting cuisines all across the globe. Although originally from Spain, the idea of tapas has been taken up and reinvented all around the world, leading to different takes in different cultures. The article's focus is on the differences between Indian and British tapas and Indian Tapas Food in Royston, delving into topics such as the two cuisines' histories, ingredients, preparation methods, and dining experiences.
Indian Biryani in Royston
The Tapas Concept :-
Where Tapas Came From:
The original tapas were little snacks or appetisers offered with drinks in Spain. Spanish verb "tapar," meaning "to cover," is the origin of the English term "tapas." Traditional tapas at Andalusian bars consisted of thin pieces of pork or bread used to cover sherry glasses, preventing flies from getting in while offering a small nibble to go with the drink. Tapas developed into many different kinds of food throughout time, including regional variations throughout Spain.
Expanding Internationally: Tapas-
Tapas are popular because of the social element of sharing tiny servings and how versatile they are. The idea of tapas-style dining has spread all over the globe, with various countries' cuisines bringing their own flavours and ingredients to the table. This fad has been adopted by both Indian and British cuisines, which have developed their own distinct takes on tapas.
Fusion of Flavours in Indian Tapas Food in Royston:-
Causes and Effects-
Although the idea of Indian tapas originated in Spain, the cuisine of India is rich and varied, and its preparation is based on traditional recipes. The complex flavours, bright colours, and use of aromatic spices are hallmarks of Indian food. Indian tapas are a lovely evolution of the concept of tiny, sharing appetisers that suit the country's traditional style of communal dining. King James Pub serves some of the best Indian Tapas Food in Royston along with some of the finest drinks and cocktails.
Essential Features of Indian Tapas -
Flavourings and spices:
Flavours in Indian tapas are often rather strong and multi-layered. Cumin, coriander, turmeric, and garam masala are just a few of the spices used to make this dish aromatic and delicious.
Ingredients:
Vegan and vegetarian options coexist in Indian tapas with a variety of meats and shellfish. Regular ingredients include lentils, chickpeas, paneer (Indian cottage cheese), and a variety of veggies. The spices are mixed with meats including lamb, fish, and chicken, and then cooked until done.
Methods of Preparation:
Tapas are made using Indian cooking methods like grilling, frying, baking, and slow-cooking. Popular tandoori chicken and paneer tikka recipes often call for tanddoori cooking, also known as clay oven grilling.
Diversity by Region:
The wide variety of cuisines found in India implies that regional variations in Indian tapas can be quite striking. Southern Indian tapas may be more hot and centred around coconut curries, whilst Northern Indian tapas may be more heavy on the cream and rich ingredients.
British Tapas: Modern Spin:-
Influences and Origins-
However, as a component of the rapidly developing British culinary scene, British tapas have undergone recent evolution. British tapas combine classic British flavours with the small-plate idea, drawing inspiration from the country's love of pubs and its increasing interest in foreign cuisines.
Essential Features of British Tapas-
Flavour Fusion:
British tapas frequently incorporate both classic British ingredients and those from the Mediterranean and other European cuisines. The end result is a gastronomic mashup that manages to be both uniquely British and expressive of foreign influences.
Ingredients:
Meat from pork, beef, lamb, and seafood (prawns, scallops, etc.) are common tapas dishes in Britain. Potatoes, peas, and other root veggies also take front stage.
Cooking Techniques:
Many dishes feature British cooking methods like roasting, baking, and frying. As an added flavour enhancer, grilling and slow cooking are sometimes used in British tapas.
Contemporary and Classical Harmony:
British tapas frequently provide contemporary takes on traditional British fare, achieving a happy medium between the two. From miniature fish and chips to gourmet sausage buns, the options are endless.
Compare Dining Experiences:-
Experience Indian Tapas-
Just like the flavourful and visually appealing Indian food, the atmosphere at an Indian tapas restaurant is usually full of life and energy. The usual fare in Indian tapas joints is:
Pretty Presentation:
The presentation of dishes is frequently enhanced by colourful garnishes and a range of textures, creating an aesthetically pleasing dining experience.
Aromas that are rich:
Seasoning food with aromatic herbs and spices makes for a more pleasurable meal.
Sharing a Meal:
In Indian culture, sharing food is a deeply rooted custom. Diners can try a range of foods while dining communally in a tapas manner.
Background Culture:
A lot of Indian tapas joints make an effort to immerse their customers in Indian culture through their furnishings, music, and atmosphere.
Experience British Tapas-
In many ways, the informal and carefree atmosphere of British pub culture is mirrored in the communal and sociable aspect of tapas dining in Britain. In a typical British tapas restaurant, you might find:
Easygoing Mood:
Guests can unwind and enjoy their meals in an atmosphere that is typically casual and unassuming.
Infused Flavours:
A one-of-a-kind and varied dining experience is created by combining classic British flavours with contemporary influences.
Impact of the Pub:
In order to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere, many British tapas bars take inspiration from classic pubs.
Fresh Ideas & Originality:
In British tapas, you can find creative takes on old favourites that are sure to liven up any meal.
Conclusion:
Tapas originated in Spain and have since spread across the world, but each cuisine's distinctive flavours, ingredients, and cultural influences give them their distinct twist. The aromatic and flavourful Indian tapas are known for their many regional specialities, brilliant colours, and robust spices. British tapas, on the other hand, are a reflection of the dynamic and ever-changing British culinary scene since they combine classic British flavours with international influences.
At its core, tapas dining is about sharing small plates and savouring a range of flavours, whether you're enjoying the inventive and comfortable British tapas or the intricate and nuanced flavours of Indian tapas. In either case, you'll have a wonderful and unforgettable experience learning about the cultural cuisines of those places. To taste some good Indian Gastro Pub Food in Royston do visit the King James Rosyton Pub. Our staff is here to serve some of the best food and drinks.

Olde City
First, check out my Ride and Review video of this joint. Aight, let’s get into it. Rumor has it, a former partner from Shorty’s struck out on his own after some creative differences. Behold, the birth of Olde City – in fact, Olde City has taken over this former Shorty’s space on Madison Avenue. While it may seem redundant, it isn’t. Shorty’s has gone downhill lately, and Olde City is better than…

what are the best things to do in prague as a tourist?
depends how long you're visiting for, and what you normally like to see. writing this with the intent of giving you things to google/pin to your map, hence not going too in-depth on everything.
if 2-3 days such as on an extended weekend or part of a larger eurotrip, i'd say start at national museum, see whatever temporary exhibit they have at the time (which is in the historic building - permanent exhibit is in the former federal parliament building, which is a very good building but gutted inside, and the exhibit is relatively generic) then walk down václavské náměstí, try to take a detour through one of the many passages (fénix, lucerna, světozor), continue down to staroměstské námestí (where orloj is). from there go either jewish quarter and then up to the metronome across the river, or go towards rudolfínum and across the river. kunsthalle is an art gallery with consistently very good exhibits, and it's a good space, worth seeing if you have a mustache (male)/bangs (female). begrudgingly i will admit charles bridge is good to see if you haven't been to prague before, what i like to show people when they visit is a very small pillar (viniční sloup) on the east bank which has the oldest cobble-stones in prague, supposedly dating to the late 1300s. not remarkable to see with your eyes but it doesn't show up on any TOP 10 THINGS TO SEE lists and it's a neat curio. the public transit system can be scary, but you should use metros and trams to get around, even if just for the experience.
for each additional day, you should wander around more, and see these additional things: petřín (get ice-cream from angelato near the enterance to the funicular - which you should take even if the line is very long), prague castle (yes it is rated this low), everyone who has been to the zoo says it is miles better than the zoo in their city (i am myself indifferent to zoos in general), you could see a concert at obecní dům/ballet/opera at national theater if that's your thing - the venues are comparable to those in the rest of austria-hungary, so it depends on what consitututes a "normal" concert hall/theater to you. dancing building by frank gehry, masaryčka by zaha hadid are cool newer buildings to look at. žižkov TV tower is neat, but i'm not sure how much entrance costs. don't eat there !
re: gastro, for czech food i'd say u medvídků and mincovna are a good balance of authentic and interesting. you can get good czech pub food in grimier pubs if you want, maybe better for a longer visit/if you have someone to tourguide you to a local joint. cafe louvre is good, smetanaq on the river if you want gluten free pancakes with microgreens (saying this derisively as if i don't also eat there sometimes). for drinks kavárna na boršově, for light snack out of the center, the cafe of hotel mosaic.
EDIT: gambrinus 12° number 1 beer worldwide
EDIT2: @yugotrash said: dont forget scheduling a day-trip to Kutná Hora to see the bones (author's note: "sedlec" is what you're googling here)

Asking the weirdly specific asks! 1 and 4.
Hello @caitylove! Thank you so much for the questions. 😃
chipotle order?
Okay, I'm going to be totally honest and admit that I had to Google what "chipotle" is. And apparently there are a few restaurants from the Mexican grill in this country. Who'd have thought?! I obviously need to get out more. The nearest ones to me are in London and Cambridge. Well, when in the Cambridge area, we tend to go to a posh gastro pub for a meal; so that explains that one. And the last couple of times we've had a meal in London it's been in a pub...
Hmm. I sense a pattern there. Anyway, I have eaten Mexican food in nearby restaurants in recent years (and it is totally not my fault that both places have closed since then). It highly amused @helloprilly15 that I'd never tried any before that and I send her a photo of the menu (partly because it was all meaningless to me). On that occassion she recommended I choose a chimichanga, and have done so since.
4. mythical creature you think/believe is real?
When I was a very young child I really wanted to believe unicorns existed; that was down to seeing a film called "A Kid For Two Farthings", but I soon gave up on that idea. And slightly before that, my mum had me absolutely convinced there were fairies at the bottom of our garden. I'd found what I now know was a bead on he floor by my bed, but she told me it was a fairy lantern. Eee, the innocence of youth.
Everybody used to half believe the Loch Ness Monster was possible when I was young too. That iconic photo and the fairies one was confessed to be a fake., btw. We've been along the length of Loch Ness quite a lot now, and visited the exhibition a few times too, and I was never convinced it was true. Nice idea though.
While up there, we once visited the Fort Augustus Abbey, which lies at the end of Loch Ness where most of the sightings come from. If you like spiritual places, I highly recommend the abbey tour; but my youngest son was bored rigid.
Incidently, he was the one who also saw the appearance of a ghostly swirl of smoke-like matter hovering above our footstool, some years ago. I've seen such an apparition three times now; in different places. Does that count as a mythical creature? If so, I'll go with that one, thanks.
Ask me a weirdly specific question.

I actually like the food at those dumb gentrified gastro pubs. Craft beer, bacon jam on burgers, and homemade pickles fuck actually. I would like if the set up were more ethical tho...

Well what you're calling a pub right now is definitely not what we call a pub lol. We also have Dominos and Pizza Huts – definitely still restaurants. If everywhere that served alcohol was a pub then the number would be insane, because you can get beer and wine at most restaurants (though not usually cafes). The thing that makes it a pub is the understanding that the drink is the priority of the business, even in high-end gastro pubs with Michelin stars – that after you're done with your family meal, people are still going to be drinking in the evening. Most pubs only serve food at certain times, but their hours will go late into the night at the bar. It's definitely not just anywhere that sells alcohol. Not sure how well I worded that so hope this makes sense 👍

Reasons to live in Lingfield: The good, the great and the awesome
We are more than consumers, we are community Lingfield and Dormansland achieved Fairtrade status back in 2005!
We as a community have been proud to be doing our bit to raise awareness of Fairtrade and the issues of better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.
This year Fairtrade are celebrating 25 years of the Fairtrade mark with events being held worldwide!
One of Surrey’s prettiest Village
This year and for many moons before we have been voted one of the prettiest villages in beautiful surrey, by Surrey Life.
Lingfield is a pretty equestrian village combining countryside, horse racing, a plethora of Tudor architecture and its very own ‘Village Cage’…. Children beware….. Disorderly adults beware too!!
Lingfield truly is a unique beautiful place to live and visit.
A hop, skip and a jump away from London
Central London can be reached in just 50 minutes. Less time than you may have to wait for your takeaway on a Friday!
London being so accessible in a major reason why people choose to live in Lingfield, they can enjoy the countryside or the city at the drop of a hat.
You win some, you lose some
With Lingfield’s all-weather racecourse you’re definitely onto a winner rain or shine!
Whether you’re dressed to the nines or enjoying a day out with the kids everyone will have a great time. Hosting family days, live music, and race days a trip to the races is a must!
Take a walk on the wild side
Set within 26 acres the British Wildlife Centre is home to the finest collection of native wildlife in Britain.
An amazing experience for the young and old alike to be captivated, explore and learn about the conservation of some of our endangered species, including red squirrels, scottish wildcats and polecats. The centre offers talks, photography days and educational tours.
Great friends, Great food, Great Times
Whether it is fine dining, gastro pubs or just a good old local’s pub Lingfield is packed with little gems! Personal favourites being Tammy’s Thai with its authentic Thai food and friendly atmosphere.
The Plough pub with adjoining restaurant is very popular for festivals, fund raising and has a great atmosphere …. Last, but far from least, The Red Barn with its Jazz Sundays, Fizz Fridays and Weekend breakfast club.
It’s Showtime… Ta Dah!!
Lingfield offers a diverse and somewhat eclectic mix of entertainment for all ages.
From pop up theatre productions, Flix in the Stix, open air cinema showings, live music and our very own annual Music Festival, Lingfest!! What more could you want….?!
Sweat, smile and repeat
Whatever it is that gets your heart pounding and pulse running you’ll be sure to find a club full of likeminded people here. We are big on keeping active and boast one of the oldest cricket clubs in the Country dating back to 1750!!
There are clubs for cricket, football, running, rambling and swimming all on your doorstep. However if you’re looking for something a little more luxurious there is of course both Lingfield Park resort and Chartham Park Golf and Country Club where you can enjoy being active, followed by a nice meal or tipple at the bar!
Keep calm, Keep walking
If your boots were made for walking and that’s just what you’re going to do… Greathead Manor in Dormansland is a terrific place to start! A distinctive Manor home completed in 1868 set in grounds of five acres and surrounded by acre upon acre of woodland, pastures and the odd fishing lake here and there.
This really is a place where you can relax the mind and enjoy cycling, fishing, horse-riding, dog walking and rambling alike. Don’t forget your camera, the views are outstanding and there’s plenty of wildlife waiting to be found.
Change of pace + Change of place = Change in perspective
Is it really that simple though? I’m not sure but I do know a lot of people move to Lingfield for just that. They want to exchange the big smoke and all it has to offer for rolling hills and fresh air.
A different pace of life for a different stage in life. People move to Lingfield not to get away from the hustle and bustle of bigger towns and cities but to be able to enjoy seeing the stars in the night sky, good schooling and be part of a growing community.
