Gary when he’s talking to another person for the first time in 5 years.

Gary feels better because Avocato is purring and that means he's enjoying the pats- So Gary actually feels as though he's helping and making others happy

And he will totally be like "Oh... okay? Weird but ok" when little Cato tell him and when he's alone it will hit him like "Oh!" And then he'll just break down crying on his floor.

As for Gary's music- the song is perfect as it's sad but suddenly gets a happy little beat and Gary will be sniffling as he hums along because its catchy

Ok but what is the song that Gary always listens to when he's sad? The song that Avocato hears from across the house and immediately stops whatever he's doing and wraps Gary up in a blanket burrito? (And does Avocato go into full-body purr mode when he's trying to comfort Gary?)

Gary has a whole playlist that he made in Galaxy One (begged Hue that it was the least he cpuld do) but I like to believe that while he listens to 80's songs a lot he just turns to jazz / blues when really upset.

So when Avocato hears the first few notes "It's all over but the crying" he casually stops whatever he's doing and goes to Gary.

Comforting Gary is 50/50- sometimes the man is touch starved or literally will have an attack if someone just grazes by him so Avocato is very careful.

Gary likes to pretend he is fine, especially as Captain, so Avocato allows Gary to do his stupid "I'm fine" Act until he is calm enough to finally talk about it.

And yes- he definitely does his full body purr, especially when Gary is seeking body heat - but Gary thinks Avocato just purrs like that usually and that he is enjoy the mindless pats he's giving him, he doesn't know it for comfort.

headcanon that little cato and ash call gary “dad” and fox calls gary “mr. dad” as a sign of courtesy and gratitude for being his father and gary absolutely loves it.

I wonder if Gary has, or had, a gambling addiction?

He always wants to play cards (sure, mostly just as a form of socializing as we see it in the show), and he’s prone to risky, impulsive behavior.

Maybe that’s what was happening with these guys? He owed them a big gambling debt and then failed to pay up?
