Yandere Iron Valiant with trainer Darling Concept?
It's a bit difficult as there isn't any PokeDex entry I can go off of. So this is speculation on my part. Sorry for image quality, it's a close up of a Pokemon card... couldn't find good official art.
Overprotective! Iron Valiant with Trainer! Darling
(FT. Gardevoir or Gallade)
Pairing: Platonic (With Rivalry Elements)
Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Obsession, Overprotective behavior, Violence, Implied murder, Blood, Clingy behavior, Forced/Dubious companionship.
Iron Valiant is a Future Paradox Pokemon that appears to have combined features of a Gardevoir and Gallade.
They are robots that we can assume were meant to act as guardians for humanity in the future.
Perhaps you caught this Pokemon once it was sent to the present?
Or... since they are a robot... you helped fix them up?
Granted, any major injury/damage can't be fixed perfectly... but you try your best.
I like to imagine Pokemon Violet's Paradox Pokemon are more robot than Pokemon.
Which means, When you fix the robot they register you as their new master.
Pokeball or not, this Iron Valiant follows you around like a maid or butler.
Technically they're both.
Imagine if you already had a Gardevoir or Gallade in your care?
They'd be so confused about their robotic counterpart.
Even more so if your new Iron Valiant tried to replace them.
Y'know what, to prevent all these Overprotective Pokemon concepts from feeling the same... you have either a Gardevoir or Gallade as your Pokemon partner.
Imagine if your Iron Valiant saw your original Pokemon partner as inferior.
They are far superior, a combination of the best parts of the evolutionary line.
Why do you still care for these... biological creatures?
Your Gardevoir/Gallade often gives you concerned looked, seeing how the glowing pink eyes of the robot scan them up and down.
You can try to make them get along... but your Iron Valiant is often the problem.
You can order them... but there's always tension between them and your original Pokemon partner.
Your robotic partner always judges your partner, glaring at them with glowing pink irises.
For the most part, they're behaved.
Although... your current Pokemon partner probably won't stick around for too long.
What I mean by that is... You Iron Valiant may just get rid of your Gardevoir/Gallade.
After all, why do you need them?
Unlike robots... they can die.
With a robot partner you'll always be safe.
So... that means your current partners are inferior...
Which means your Iron Valiant will exterminate them for you.
Imagine waking up one day and all your partners are gone.
You're looking everywhere... but they're just gone.
However, when you call for your Iron Valiant... they respond.
With an excited beep or two, the run up to you with a happy gaze...
Covered in blood.
You stay silent... staring...
They don't seem to care.
If you try to run, they'll follow.
You can't escape them... you're trapped...
After all, they're superior!
Their master only deserves the best.

just realized i never posted my rescue team character redesigns oops
ninetales: shiloh (they/them)
-reworked to be a snowdrift (alolan) ninetales because it makes more sense with the climate they live in and spike chunsoft are COWARDS for not including the regional variants of pokemon in gens 1-3 that got one.
-actually only has 8 tails (lost one in the havoc encounter).
-@ all of the ties that bind heads out there: does their design remind you of anyone in particular? :3c
gengar: havoc (he/him)
-his real (human) name was alphard. he discarded this name and adopted havoc instead after his transformation, as he was hoping that it would make others want to avoid him entirely, as he felt like he didn't deserve any kindness or decency after what he had done. unfortunately for him, medicham and adder (ekans) are stupid and like him. he starts using alphard again after tureis is saved.
-he has a permanent frostbite scar on his right hand from when he grabbed shiloh.
-team meanies fully disbands after tureis' rescue and gengar decides to spend his time giving back to the community in pokemon square for forgiving him. he pretty much becomes team fable's biggest fan and hypes up mayar and turies after she joins (newlin.....exists), not that he will ever admit it.
-after the tureis rescue, mayar tells alphard that regardless of what he's done in the past he's still deserving of love and compassion and that he's not a bad pokemon. alphard becomes smitten with her after that (<- guy that is desparate for companionship). mayar thinks that he's funny and forgives him for the whole "sending a violent mob after her and newlin" thing, and they hookup eventually. everybody in town (especially newlin) hates it but they're still supportive.
-other than newlin he becomes the most active participant in team fable's research into mega evolution when their focus shifts over to that.
gardevoir: tureis (she/her)
-joins team fable for a few years before eventually joining team charm after meeting lopunny. the switch from rescuing to exploring excites her, especially since she's been unable to go anywhere for years. mayar and newlin are very supportive of this. medicham also joins in hopes of getting stronger by travelling to make up for fainting in wish cave.
-being trapped took a heavy toll on her physical body that left her very ill for a long time. she couldn't do much without getting weak and winded, and was severely underweight upon being freed. everyone was supportive of her just doing what she can while part of the team (though she was barred from partaking in mega evolution research due to being a massive strain on the body and could be lethal in her condition). she's much healthier as of joining team charm, which is her main motivation for getting out there and travelling.
-there is a 30ish year gap between rt and explorers in my lore, so by the time she appears in explorers she's in her late 50s/early 60s. still kicking it!
-first image is her appearance in rt, second image is her appearance in explorers
-never recovers her memories of alphard but, for reasons she can't describe, she feels a strong kinship with him. the two become good friends.

Me bitching about Poke-madhouse part 1?
Can we just talk about how Lily wrote her self insert basically getting r**ed, and baby trapped by a gardevior that was with her since she was a child. And they grew up with together as siblings and Lily even called that gardevoir a child.
The literal arc is called Violate when the r**ed happened, granted it was through her mind. However I don't think that's any better given her track record. Bonnie's whole existence happened because G swapped a vial with Lily's blood. Because "LiLy WaNtEd A cHiLd" and she did this without Lily's consent. And literally at the the last post before Madhouse was deleted Lily said to her: "I think I would like us to be sisters." So that just proves that they were related.

responding to anon talking abt syir (diantha’s gardevoir): lily presents syir as a sort of “evil counterpart to g” and “everything she’s afraid of becoming” because she forced diantha into a relationship and abuses her, but this falls flat in my opinion because g is still just as bad as syir in many regards.
g forced a mating bond on comic!lily without her knowledge and in a state where she couldn’t consent (and would get comic!lily in serious legal trouble if anyone found out), is violently possessive over comic!lily to the point of threatening her friends and partners, saw a ralts bonding with comic!lily as a threat to their relationship and nearly attacked her despite acknowledging that ralts are children for her species, created a baby without comic!lily’s consent, “forcibly silenced” anyone who found out about her and comic!lily’s mating bond, and has physically assaulted/threatened comic!lily multiple times.
(side note: syir and diantha never properly appeared in the comic, only being discussed in a since-deleted set of articles on the poke-madhouse wiki. but at one point when the character lacey beaulieu questions comic!lily about her relationship with g, comic!lily gets indignant and insists she hasn’t “pulled a diantha”— implying it’s diantha’s fault that she’s trapped in an abusive relationship with a creature who holds full physical/psychic power over her. and that’s really fucked up.)
That's a ridiculously dark set of headcannon, especially since Diantha is doing alright in the games.

I was bored at uni one day so decided to make hypothetical pokemon teams for the Touden party. Some are based on vibes, some are references to the characters themselves. Explanations below, at some places I go into spoiler territory so read at your own risk. I dont know how to spoilertag so im just gonna paste a lot of "/" so people have to click read more.

Laios: In general a very monster focused team. Initially i considered filling his entire team with dragons, but found that idea pretty boring. Hydreigon is a perfect fit for Laios. It fits both his love of dragons, multiheaded monsters, and it fits one of his titles at the end of the story: Laios of the Three heads. Escavalier is a reference to the living armor, which i think is the coolest monster in the entire series. Thats not enough to have it as a team member though, so the real reason i placed it on Laios' theme is that its Kensuke. Pyroar is The Winged Lion, as Laios is the only person in the story who truly understands it. Nidoking is a monster, but it also has king in its name. Lycanrock (day) is a reference to his childhood dogs. Finally Lickylicky references his endless apetite. I chose Lickylicky over snorlax, because Lickylicky is more niche in its appeal, and Laios is the type of person who likes things other would say "Thats stupid" to.
Marcille: I struggled a bit with this team, but in general i wanted to focus on her Elf identity, which mean some more feminine pokemon. However i also wanted to focus on her ancient magic and magical capabilities. I think Gardevoir is a perfect fit for her. Its a very caring pokemon, and its a very powerful psychic type. I added Cradily because i felt it fit her a lot. Its an ancient pokemon, and its a plant. You could see this as fitting with her staff and such, but all in all i just thought it really fit Marcille a lot. Next is Trevenant, which is a reference to her staff, Ambrosia. Its also a ghost type pokemon and has a darker design than just a tree, so i felt it was a nice tie in to her having darker/ancient magic than she lets on at first. Meowstic is a pokemon i put in simply for the vibes, I feel it fits her a lot. No other reason really. Gothitelle is here to reference her Dungeon Lord outfit, but i also think its a pokemon she would like. At last Spiritomb. This is a reference to her ancient magic, and i feel no other pokemon could represent an old unknown horror quite as well as Spiritomb.
Senshi: I wanted to really include Senshis key characteristics here, but really ended up with a lot of food pokemon. Mudsbray is a reference to Anne, both the horse and the Kelpie. Torterra is a pokemon i think senshi would like. I initially wanted to use Golem or another rock type to reference his farm golems, but i think Torterra just does the idea much better seeing as its basically an ecosystem in itself. Kangaskhan is a reference to his parental role in the party, but also his need to take care of the younger generation. Perrserker is a reference to his dwarf identity, i just think its neat. Appletun is an apple pie, and Farfetch'd seems like a nice pokemon to help you make food.
Chilchuck: With Chilchuck i wanted to both think of his status as the party rogue/trap disarmer and his position as a family man at heart. I wanted to reference his politics, but found it hard to represent with pokemon. First up we have Thievul, which is just a great fit for him. Its a thief fox that steps around silently, i think he would really like this thing. Klefki is his disarming tools. Maushold is him and his family. I think Pyukumuku is actually the best representation of him. Its small, and mostly utility focused, which is really his place in the party. However its also really cool so theres that, i guess. Lastly Galarian Stunfisk represents traps, and Gimmieghoul is his (least) favourite monster The Mimic.
Izutsumi: I wanted to emphazise that shes both a cat and a angsty teenager, but ended up with a very edgy team. I suppose it fits her though. Liepard is a scheming cat pokemon. It also fits because it has a rivalry with Thievul, which is in Chilchucks team. I think it was a nice fit as they basically have a grumpy dad/teenage daughter relationship at times. Sneasel is a mischievous little guy, which is basically a description of Izutsumi. Greninja is a ninja, and Luxio kinda looks like Izutsumi. Zoroark and Umbreon are both pretty edgy pokemon which i loved as a teenager, but i do think they fit her design. This is probably the weakest team on this list, but I still feel it fits her a lot.
Falin: I wanted to represent Falins place in the story, aswell as some of her likes. Dracozolt is a direct reference to her status as a hybrid bird/dragon/human monster. Its a perfect fit really. Hatterene represents her status as a "damsel in distress" that the party need to save. Although i think shes more than that, I felt it fit as Hatterene also has powerful magic. Oranguru i thought was a funny pick, i think it fits her healing mage aesthetic, and they basically have the same design really. Scolipede is a reference to her love of bugs and Reuniclus is both a psychic type and a body. I think it was a nice fit for her. Lastly we have Alolan Marowak, who in design is an exorcist, which is a nice little nod to her and Laios' conversation when they were children. Her potentially becoming a wandering exorcist.
And thats that. I made this just for fun so there are probably better choices for some of the characters. thanks.

I find it weird that Lily takes a Pokémon based on empathy and compassion and turns into Girlboss McMurder face. (Gardevior)
I’ll admit, I don’t know my Gardevoir lore, but from most the Pokédex entries I looked at, it seems like its biggest thing is protecting its trainer — so some level of violence (plus the fact it’s Pokemon and Pokemon battle all the time) isn’t that unbelievable.
Non-consensually mate bonding with an unconscious, teenager that views you as a sister and later baby trapping them is kinda fucked though.

// how did you decide what pokemon harte would have?
//Great question! Unfortunately, I can’t answer that one for the most part. His initial five were chosen by whoever I was in 2017 and I don’t remember that. Gardevoir was chosen by a number generator saying there was one trapped outside his house. Torterra was a starter he adopted because he saw it while visiting a lab and thought it would make a great sixth. Muk was a trade. His Lycanroc are because he was impulsive and bred two for himself not really knowing if he could take care of them. (He can, thank fuck.) His other battling Pokémon are from an Alola trip where he caught so fucking many Pokémon. His Pokémon don’t have any real reasoning outside of right time right place! There’s no character reasoning for why he has a Gardevoir who loves monotonous tasks or why his Muk refuses to stop using Minimize, similarly to how there’s no character reasoning for…me having a lizard irl, I guess? It just kind of happens. :) I hope that makes sense! I guess I could answer it lmao

You're always asking me (skuntank) headcanon stuff and I appreciate it so much. So I wanna ask you, do you happen to have any stuff on Cynthia you feel like sharing?
(I don't get to use that reaction image often. Read Paranatural!)
So we've already established that I want more people to be aware of Cynthia canonically being terrible at keeping her living space clean and doesn't usually cook anything that doesn't involve a microwave, so let's focus more on backstory a bit.
I think she might've started her journey alongside Cyrus, much like how Professor Kukui went through his whole trainer journey alongside Guzma (and I think also Kahili?). This would explain why she's so actively involved in foiling his whole nihilist depression apocalypse scheme. Like I've said before, she was inspired to use Gible thanks to the local legends about Drasna, and she was later interested in archaeology due to Bertha's influence.
(Infodump continues beneath the cut)
She talks about her grandmother and grandfather often, but doesn't seem to mention her parents at all. Not sure if that's due to them being estranged or departed. Either her parents disowned her for whatever reason at a young age and her grandparents raised her instead, or she's an orphan.
Also, Bulbapedia claims that she also has a younger sister, which is the first I've heard of this and has me very curious about what she's been up to. Does she live in Sinnoh or somewhere else? Is she also an archaeologist or does she have a different career path? The lack of information clarifying this brief bit of trivia in Cynthia's wiki page is maddening.
Actually, wait a minute, hold on. Is her younger sister Concordia?
Similar blonde hair, uses a Gardevoir, an orphan who was taken in by Ghetsis alongside Anthea to help raise N. It's a long shot but it's one of the few potential options we know of out of the existing character roster. Maybe that's part of why Cynthia visits Unova so often...
Anyway, speaking of associating characters from completely different regions with Cynthia despite no confirmed canon knowledge of each other, let's talk about Raifort!
I agree with your headcanon that Cynthia and Hunter J used to be a couple, specifically because it aligns well with my headcanon that she used to be nemesis-with-benefits with Raifort back in her archaeology grad student years. They had that sort of Indiana Jones/Rene Belloq "Once again, Dr. Cynthia, there is nothing you find that I cannot possess!" chemistry going on, except with Cynthia as the responsible archaeologist who, when on expeditions in other Regions, assists local cultures with uncovering and researching their artifacts. Raifort, by contrast, was definitely more of a cat burglar style "sell to the highest bidder" tomb raider, which would explain why Rhyme seems to notice ghosts still following her around. They both have a love for history and Legendary pokemon, they just express that love in very different ways.
The two would often exchange flirtatious insults as they fight over some Legendary related idol, usually in a temple room slowly filling with water or some other ancient trap mechanism. Raifort would sometimes allow herself to be captured only to somehow escape the next morning, and Looker would be stuck filing the paperwork to Interpol while Cynthia tries to hide the marks on her neck and shoulders. Eventually, it seems, Raifort's luck ran out and she was caught, only escaping a hefty prison sentence thanks to Clavell offering her the teaching gig as a form of community service. Raifort's team was likely a lot more annoying with status effect stall moves before she became a teacher, though notably her Scizor still knows the move Thief. And it seems her old habit of using ancient artifacts in occult rituals hasn't completely faded with time...
I'm sure I had other Cynthia headcanon snippets and concepts but those are the main ideas off the top of my head. I'll reblog this again later on if I think of anything else, but that should be plenty to work with for now.

favorite Pokémon story? Like how you met one of your partners on your team.
well, i don't really have a favorite story--brutus was my starter and i caught ivy and alluria pretty easily. there is a most interesting story, though. it's just not a favorite because at the time it was really stressful.
latios and latias are classified as legendary pokémon and so you're not supposed to catch them, right? well, i was on my way to fortree, traveling up route 119, and during the night a really bad storm blew through. i found comet, who is now my latios, pinned under a fallen tree the next morning. one of his wings had been broken by the impact and he had somehow been separated from his flock.
once i got him calmed down, i was able to catch him. i rushed to the fortree pokémon center as fast as i could. he healed okay, but then--because you're not supposed to catch latis--there was this big to-do involving league personnel who had to verify that i hadn't had anything to do with his injury. i guess the line of logic is that people sometimes intentionally trap latis in order to catch them, and the league tries to prevent that?
anyway, i got interrogated by drake of the elite four, which was fucking scary. comet was interviewed by a gardevoir to corroborate my story, which i guess he did. anyway, it turned out he didn't want to leave me, so i was allowed to keep him, because it's illegal to separate a pokémon partner from their trainer.
and that's how i wound up with a surprise team member. he doesn't battle or anything; we're just pals. but i'm really glad to have him around.

Thoughts on the TCG Pocket meta now that I've played it for a week
Well I've certainly enjoyed playing TCG Pocket. I'm surprised at how easy it is to get rare cards and rare art cards on top of that, and the streamlined battle mode is easy on-the-go fun. But despite not having played the actual TCG, I'm not unaware of how much nuance was cut out of the game to streamline it into a bite-sized experience. In specific, the metagame lacks depth.
Of the ten archetypes, Fire, Water, Grass, Lightning and Psychic have clear strategies baked into the cards (with Water having multiple, IMO). Fighting, Darkness, Metal, Dragon and Colorless, not so much. Some of these strategies are meta, some are not.
Meta Strategies:
Grass: A surprisingly reliable deck, with access to an excellent supporter card in Erika, healing +50 hp to any Grass Pokemon. Exeggutor is your lead mon - regular or ex, both work - with its high HP and annoying low-cost move that does double damage on a coin flip. While Eggy sponges damage and heals with Erika, you work on building up a Venusaur ex in on the bench. Sprinkle in any support Pokemon you'd like - I think Butterfree's healing ability has great potential. Unfortunately I don't have all the cards for this deck, but I've seen other players use it to great success.
Psychic: The only deck with reliable energy acceleration. It has multiple strong attackers in Mewtwo ex, Alakazam and Gengar ex. The name of the game is building up Gardevoir on the bench so she can use her broken Psy Shadow abilty to attach 2 Psychic energy per turn. That takes 3 turns minimum if you get lucky, with luck being the name of the game. Sometimes, you can have Mewtwo ex ready to dish out 150 damage by turn 3. Otherwise, you have to hope you draw your cards before your opponent sets up. I don't have two copies of the Gardevoir line so my version of this deck isn't up to snuff.
Powerful but Volatile:
Fire: This deck is potentially very powerful but highly luck-dependent. Moltres ex provides energy acceleration... at the cost of a coin flip. You can generate anywhere from 0-3 energy per turn. And unlike Gardevoir, it has to be in the active spot to accelerate energy. The core strategy here is to build up multiple Fire attackers, specifically Charizard ex, while Moltres tanks attacks with its high HP and accelerates energy. The caveat is that once Charizard ex is in the active spot, it won't be able to regain energy from Moltres - and it loses 2 energy per use of its 200-power attack. I faced an opponent with this deck today and they surprised me in the end with a backup Magmar powered by Blaine. Definitely gets results, but cross your fingers.
Water: Like Fire, Water has a luck-based way to accelerate energy - Misty. Unlike Moltres ex, Misty is a supporter card, and you can have 2 per deck. But you can get very unlucky quite easily with this card, as one tails and you get nothing, whereas Moltres ex gets 3 chances to flip heads. Water has a lot of good ex Pokemon, like Blastoise ex and Lapras ex. It's a very flexible archetype, and I've found success with a particular deck (more on that later).
Dragon: Probably the most volatile deck in the game. There are no cards that support Dragon-type Pokemon, which is a problem when Dragonite - a Stage 2 - takes 4 attachments to do damage. Its attack deals damage to the active and benched Pokemon... at random. If you want this deck to succeed, you need max copies of Dratini/Dragonair/Dragonite and a lot of luck.
Noob Trap:
Lightning: Pikachu ex decks are super easy to use! And super underwhelming. It's easy to stack Lightning Pokemon on the bench, but the most damage you can do is 90, and you often find yourself falling short of KOing bulky Pokemon ex before you get KO'd. Unless you're up against a Water deck, the damage just isn't high enough.
Underexplored:
Fighting: This archetype has a surprising number of cards, including two Pokemon ex and multiple reliable 1-prize attackers, but is largely underexplored by the player base. Being Psychic- and Grass-weak when those are two of the best decks is a factor.
Colorless: Colorless cards have a ton of utility but not a ton of power. It's an archetype I haven't seen anyone trying, but as they can be used with any deck, it's still common to fight against Colorless Pokemon. I'd be on the lookout for Fearow, Kangaskan and perhaps Cinccinno.
Underdeveloped:
Darkness: If Psychic is meta, you'd think Darkness decks would be a good counter, right? Unfortunately, there are no Darkness Pokemon ex in the game currently. Without a strong Pokemon to anchor them, this archetype doesn't have any real estate in the meta. That said, I did fight an opponent that combined Mewtwo ex with Weezing and Koga and it actually worked really well.
Metal: There are 5 Metal cards currently. Better than Dragon, right? But the cards aren't very splashable. Meltan has built-in energy acceleration but it has to be in the active spot to use it, and once it evolves it loses that ability. Paired with its low HP, and there's a reason I have never faced a Metal deck. Future expansions will hopefully give this archetype a chance to shine.
My Water deck - Splash Damage
I've recently developed a Water deck that I think is pretty strong. I call it the Splash Damage Deck. This deck plays Articuno ex in the lead and builds up Greninja on the bench. The idea is to combine Greninja's Water Shuriken ability (meaning it activates while on the bench) with Articuno ex's relatively weak for an ex Blizzard attack. With one Greninja, you can amp Blizzard from base 90 damage to 110 damage. With two Greninja, you bring that damage to 130. Not only that, you also do splash damage to the bench. And if Blizzard's 90 power is going to KO the active Pokemon, you can throw Water Shurikens at a Pokemon on the bench, potentially doing up to 50 damage.
I play two copies of Articuno ex, Froakie, Frogadier and Greninja, one copy each of Staryu and Starmie ex as a back-up attacker and cleaner, two copies of Misty and then general support and item cards. I could get rid of two items or two supporters to run another set of Staryu and Starmie ex if I have consistency problems.
If you read all that, let me know what strategies you've found success with and what your favorite cards are!

Keep thinking about Palace Prince Wally. Or Wally adopting this princely persona as he gets older, though for my au, since he takes over the battle tower from anabel. Said persona is 100% Lisia's fault btw. She practically screamed when she found out he was going to be part of the frontier brain and dragged him shopping....okay, the whole prince thing wasn't all Lisia. Wally bashfully suggested it, but Lisia was the one that pushed him into going through with it.
Also I'm just realizing Wally, The Palace Prince, is head of the Battle Tower. The Prince in The Tower. And he already has some fairy and dragon types + a knight pokemon ( Gallade and/or Gardevoir). Like this dude is already set with the fairy tale theme, and I'm loving it. And!!! It matches his main game story!!! Cause like. Hearing about a sickly boy that goes against all odds to become a powerful hero - a prince - is something straight out of a fairytale, right? And!!! Wally was trapped in a metaphorical tower of his own before meeting Ralts and the player, his knights in a way. Like I don't want to come off as pompous here, especially since I doubt this idea of mine is original, but I feel pretty smart right now, even if it wasn't intentional.

Pokemon Card of the Day Schedule: Unbroken Bonds
Unbroken Bonds was the second set to feature Tag Team Pokemon. It brought some very notable ones, with Reshiram & Charizard-GX seeing top-level play for quite some time. Gardevoir & Sylveon-GX was good for a while after it first was released, while Lucario & Melmetal-GX was one of the few Tag Teams that was quite successful playing things more slowly. The other Tag Teams had more minor uses.
Some of the other Pokemon here had big impacts as well. Blacephalon and Spiritomb both had impressive decks built around them despite being single Prize Pokemon, for example. Dewgong had a short run at the top of SUM-On with Zoroark-GX. Dedenne-GX was one of the most used supporting Pokemon for its draw power, and Mewtwo could recover Supporters.
Even the Trainers were good. Chip-Chip Ice Axe and Lt. Surge's Strategy are even banned in Expanded now due to their role in disruptive decks there, and were useful in Standard decks of the type as well. Welder was a huge form of Fire-type Energy acceleration, especially when paired with Fire Crystal. Green's Exploration provided Trainer access if not using Abilities, while Power Plant could shut Abilities down for some Pokemon. There were other notable cards as well, as this was a very deep set that changed quite a bit about the game.
