Here are a few pix of the landscaping before trains. The panorama shows the raw landscape partway done. The other 2 are after completion. The raised planter is where the DJGRR will be. This modest sized layout will have a town at one end, sawmill at the other, and a logging area in the middle.

Since the DJGRR is a logging railroad, we’ve picked the Bachmann 50-ton 3-truck Shay as our first locomotive. Not being one that enjoys cleaning track for good electrical contact, I’ve chosen to go battery/remote controlled.

This video shows me halfway through converting the Shay to battery power. This is the first time I’ve had both the main controls and the sound card working from the remote.

Sweet!
