Now I m not sure if this works - I ll give it a try this week and see - but I thought I d share this with you all and you can give it a go too - maybe in an area where you wondered why a certain plant was nt doing well ?.. . . It’s always good to know what’s going on in your soil? . . I think I ve definitely decided to switch to no dig next year where the beds are ... digging that all pretty much seriously sucked !! The rubble - stones - China - glass - nails - screws - and other bits I found in there !! I was surprised there was any soil left after I took out handfuls of rubbish!! . . This is supposed to be a mature garden !! . Yep they just plonked grass on top ( which is full of weeds - moss - clover ) and hoped for the best !! 🤣. . I know I ve improved the soil where the potatoes are - but it will need years of digging up the rubbish and amending the soil. I m thinking with my health being up and down like a roller coaster - no doing is the way to go ! 🙌🙌🤞. . Well it ll be more like a lasagna no dig! The mighty oak, a new fabric for us as it’s been very popular with you gardeners out there… well I know that a day pottering in the borders is quite therapeutic but the evening proves to be more difficult, in my case I can feel muscles I didn’t know I had hurt and my back, well that’s another pain I’d rather not endure. So for me it’s straight into an Epsom salts warm bath for a soak, pjs and my lavender wheat bag. Another week wiped out in illness ( last week to this week ) other than Saturday which I powered through - nothing was making me miss Darren’s birthday party - if my legs would have fell off , I d have walked on my stumps !! . . So today it’s been stronger meds - ( knocked me out for three hours !) . . A blood test - results should be back tomorrow ...then he’s calling / a scan is booked and he said camera down to my belly and up my jacksey!! 😬😬. I ve had the camera down my throat - it made me ill for nearly a year after. So would like to avoid that !! . Does my body not understand I have a garden to sort - plants to plant - a polytunnel to sort !! . . My borlloto and blue lake beans .. I think I grew them for the colours as much as anything ! . . The blue lake don’t seem to stay this beautiful blue when drying ... ( or is that just me ?) . . But the borlloto stay this cream and pink which when I first saw them I fell in love and knew I had to grow them - no matter what .. . . Sometimes you just have to grow things that make you happy - even if they don’t make a lot .. . These blue lake are being dried for seed - same with some of the borlotto . . The rest of the borlotto will be dried and jarred for food for the winter chilli. . Just frozen first batch of chillis - for chilli jam - and chilli ! . . Some of the tomatoes are turning red - so I m freezing them as I go - so I can make sauces and chutneys next week.. . . Also blanching and par cooking potatoes for future roasters - . Nothing is being wasted. . . Re planted carrot seeds in the permaculture bed.. . . Cabbages to go out today ! . . So some of these veggies turned into that soup !! And it’s bloody lush !!. It feels like I m feeding the family for free! . . Green tomatoes on the window sill to ripen .. I did keep a primary paper bag to pop them - to help them hurry up turning red .. but the bags gone walkies ( I ve put it in a safe place 🤣) . . October 19 2017 Lue and Bens garden - before and after. They had super clay soil - so I dug up all the plants, dumped four bags of pro-mix, mixed it in, and re-planted what they wanted! So much room now for summer fruit and veggies and plenty more perennials.
