I was greeted with a beautiful sight of #Magnolia trees across Greenwich Park whilst I was running the other day. I have to come back to take a few photos before they are on their way out! The strong wind only did a very slight damage to the flowers but mainly unharmed. 😍😍😍 . Native to North America and several south east Asian countries, the humble magnolia tree is named for French botanist Pierre Magnol – though they've been around an estimated 20 million years, with the family line going back as far as 95 million years. An ancient genus of tree, some of which flourished alongside the dinosaurs, magnolias are often admired as the perennial icons of spring and summer. Important to the people of the United States (shout out to the Magnolia State of Mississippi) China, North Korea and much of the West Indies, the goblet-shaped flowers have also been immortalised in countless films as well as works of literature, art, music and now, Instagram. I received two bare rooted roses from @thediggersclub today and set about getting ready to plant them. I thought I should add some compost to the soil, but didn't really expect to find a little brown snake on my shovel...Luckily it was chilly (and the phone/camera was in my pocket). I was very wary emptying my bucket of compost in case there were more I hadn't spotted, but it was devoid of reptiles. Morning everyone! More dwarf #daffodils (Narcissus 'Tête-à-tête') has flowered in #mygarden. 😍😍😍 . Narcissus 'Tête-à-tête' - clusters of up three deep golden-yellow flowers with slightly reflexed petals and deep yellow cups appear in March and April above the narrow, strap-shaped leaves. One of the most popular forms, this delightful dwarf narcissus makes a fabulous early spring display for a sunny window-box. Blue grape hyacinths and slow-growing variegated ivies help to extend the season of interest. Quite possibly the most renowned scented dwarf daffodil on the market today, the tete-a-tete daffodil will bear up to 3 flowers per stem. They bloom in early spring, with neat buttercup golden trumpets that are slightly fluted at mouth. These petite narcissi are an excellent choice for the front of a border, rockery or for pots in your patio area. A hardy variety which will tolerate some exposure.
