Narcissus 'Tête-à-tête' - clusters of up three deep golden-yellow flowers with slightly reflexed petals and deep yellow cups appear in March and April above the narrow, strap-shaped leaves. One of the most popular forms, this delightful dwarf narcissus makes a fabulous early spring display for a sunny window-box. Blue grape hyacinths and slow-growing variegated ivies help to extend the season of interest. Quite possibly the most renowned scented dwarf daffodil on the market today, the tete-a-tete daffodil will bear up to 3 flowers per stem. They bloom in early spring, with neat buttercup golden trumpets that are slightly fluted at mouth. It's turning out to be a pretty dry winter so far here in Southern California. Do you have #HydrangeaPaniculata in your garden? Now is the time to prune it! I have a Hydrangea Paniculata 'Limelight' in #mygarden. I like to cut it back hard to one or two new shooting buds and it will put on impressive new growth this spring and summer to produce huge cone of flowers! Same pruning techniques can be applied to Hydrangea Arborescens as well. Flowers are bare on this year growth. Swipe to see the before and after. . For Hydrangea Mopheads and Lacecaps pruning are slightly different. They bare flowers on last year growth! If you prune them hard, you will not get any flowers this year! You only need to remove dead blooms. For mophead hydrangeas, in mild areas, dead blooms can be removed just after flowering, but it is best to leave them on the plant over winter to provide some frost protection for the tender growth buds below. Remove the dead flowerheads in early spring, cutting back the stem to the first strong, healthy pair of buds down from the faded bloom. For Lacecaps are hardier, and the faded flowerheads can be cut back after flowering to the second pair of leaves below the head in order to prevent seed developing, which saps energy from the plant. Hydrangea Serrata can be pruned in the same way as mophead and lacecap #hydrangeas. @the_rhs . Hydrangea paniculata 'Limelight' produces huge, conical blooms open in a soft shade of pea green, and then gradually mature through shades of cream to a delicate soft pink. Hydrangea paniculata 'Limelight' is quite a spectacle, particularly when flowers are at different stages of colour and maturity, giving a three toned effect. I've been looking at evergreen shrubs that flowers early spring to provide food for the wildlife, i.e. #bees and other pollinators and this one came up! I love these #Viburnum. . Very ornamental, Viburnum tinus (Laurustinus) is a vigorous bushy evergreen shrub noted for its eye-catching flower clusters, colorful berries and leathery foliage. Opening from pale pink buds from winter to mid spring, masses of tiny, fragrant, white flower clusters are elegantly held above the foliage. Rich of nectar, they are loved by butterflies, bees and other pollinators. The blooms give way to showy bright metallic blue berries. The dense evergreen foliage of ovate, glossy dark green leaves makes Laurustinus an excellent choice for mixed shrub borders or low screens.
