i moved back to my parents this year and lately i started to declutter our garage cause it almost looks like a hoarder garage (i do think my parents have hoarder tendencies) and I'm finding stuff like. bills from 1988. advertisements from newspapers about houses in this area (we moved here in like, 2006?). toys i played with when i was 4. my mom's high school notes. my coat that i wore when i was 10. a puzzle with the world map that still has "soviet union" written over russia. my dad's books on programming from like the 80s. a computer magazine that has articles about the "new" baldurs gate 1 and fallout 2 games. i have thrown out like 3 bags of toys and like 3 bags of paper and there are still so much

Oh man, I really didn't want to make any comments about anyone not associated with SAF while I've been doing this, but this was such a bizarre comment I couldn't not share it

Oh remember I was saying garage sales are hit or miss ect, well the church one we went to had a boxed Theresa Holiday Barbie (2016) for.... $20. Bitch sgdgdgdggdgdgd that's worth like $3 in garage sale money. It's too recent to be worth more than like $10 on the market, the box was in tact but that doesnt add value really (again too new), and the holiday barbies all look the fucking same year after year now like no one wants them even on clearance
That's like two or so years ago I went to a flea market and I got I think a black label barbie idr, I'll have to look. Anyway the box was dented but she was still boxed, she was in very good shape, and it was an older barbie. I paid $15.
Your 2016 holiday barbie is lucky to get more than $5 man 😭 know your market

Avant-Garage Visionaries: The Pere Ubu Odyssey
In the pantheon of post-punk pioneers, few bands have carved out a legacy as enduring and influential as Pere Ubu. Formed in the mid-1970s in Cleveland, Ohio, Pere Ubu emerged from the ashes of the proto-punk outfit Rocket from the Tombs, bringing with them a sound that was both a continuation and a radical departure from their predecessors. The Avant-Garage Sound Pere Ubu’s music, often…

writing down all the dolls i own for funsies and looking on toy sisters and man i miss when disney princesses dolls didnt necessarily have to wear the exact same things they did in their movies. my favoritest disney princess dolls are probably the ones from the 90s where they got creative with the fashion. i guess its more efficient now to just imitate the movie, and i definitely see the value in dolls with movie accurate clothing, but i miss the creativity!!!!

Just an update, this has been as nice and wholesome as it sounds! I got him plastic storage totes so we can get his things out of cardboard boxes from the 90s, and it's given us a chance to go through boxes of things from our childhoods together. It's so fun, and we still have a ton of space left so he's letting me put my holiday decorations there too since he knows a lot of my holiday things are hand-me-downs from our mom that I want to take good care of :') It's so cool, it's like a retro toy store in there!
Years ago when my brother was no-contact with my family, he left behind an attic full of his childhood stuff at my mother's and never came to get it when she was moving out no matter how many times he was asked. I asked a friend with a trailer to help me move it all when the rest of my family told me to leave it behind.
Now all this time later he's back in the family and I've been taking care of him (he has since become quadriplegic) and this morning he called and surprised me with a climate-controlled storage unit for me to put my childhood toys, collectibles, keepsakes, etc. in as a thank you for saving his when they otherwise would have been left behind 😭

so, let me set the scene
it's one am, completely dark outside, i'm in bed with the room also completely dark, lights all off. i'm watching dimension 20 fantasy high sophomore year episode 18 Fearful Symmetry for the first time
the episode is rapidly evolving, the *SPOILERS* bad kids are facing their nightmares, and i am fully immersed in the story. the fear and suspense is getting to me, i am tense with nerves, and adaine abernant comes to the edge of a cliff
and as i watch her decide to step off the cliff, guess what i hear at 1:33:44 into this episode
youtube
if you didn't already know, the song playing in the background is called Silent Castle by Jay Varton
i hear this song and, suddenly, i am yoinked out of the story. i am no longer transfixed by my favorite chaotic high schoolers making their way through the forest of the nightmare king. no, suddenly, my mind is thinking of this
my brain said goodbye teens facing trauma induced dreams, hello violently romantic gay mafia standoff

im sure there's a whole honeymoon period for moving out but so far, all my time in my new place has felt significantly easier than at home :) the only time i got really upset was when i was filling out a form on a softwood table and left marks on it (i never had softwood before so i didnt know that could happen, lol) but fortunately thats been mostly repaired! just needs a revarnish.
my parents and i have been working on the garden area together recently. somebody on facebook was giving away river pebbles for free on the condition that you pick them up out of the garden yourself, so we spent around 8 hours doing that ^^'' super worth it though, i didnt have to spend hundreds of dollars!!

If you're new to me yelling about this: my neighbors feed a feral cat colony but provide no other care to the colony like neuter/spay or vaccination. They free feed the cats, which attracts skunks, and they have (at the moment) about 20 cats in the colony, which attracts coyotes.
My dog has been skunked twice, she can't be outside in our yard unsupervised for even a minute because otherwise she'll try to eat cat shit because there's cat shit everywhere in my yard because the neighbors also haven't provided litterboxes or a sandbox for their ferals (their entire yard is paved) and if she has to go outside at night I need to clear the yard for coyotes before I let her out even in the small fenced area by our bedroom.
Also there are fleas fucking *everywhere* and even though my dog is on medication to prevent fleas I need to de-flea her twice a week in the summer; this is the case for every dog owner on the street.
The street I live on has a speed limit of 25mph but I hear cats getting hit frequently, so frequently that we have a resident group of crows who hang out and wait for them to become roadkill.
I have a collection of photos on my phone that show kittens with broken legs, kittens with missing eyes, kittens with horrible ear mite infections, and I have a dedicated shovel that I use for moving cat corpses that show up on my property. The cats that die on my property die from abscessed wounds from fights with other cats, respiratory infections, renal failure, and injuries from being hit by cars.
My spouse is immune compromised, and while toxoplasmosis is not a serious risk for most people, it IS a serious risk for people who are immune compromised (as are all the other infections that cats can potentially carry), which means that it's unsafe for me to grow vegetables in my yard for us to eat and it's unsafe for him to work in the yard.
I'd love to maybe open my windows at night and keep down the electricity costs of using the AC, but I can't because the entire side of my house that faces my neighbor's yard reeks of cat shit and piss year round.
Those are my next door neighbors.
Last week I was walking my dog as a neighbor around the corner was pulling out of her garage; she paused and rolled down her window and pointed at the cats on her lawn and said "Head's up, my cats are weirdly aggressive about small dogs and they just got let out so they're full of energy right now" and I nodded and crossed the street and didn't yell at my neighbor but *the temptation was there* because A) why are you letting your aggressive animals roam and B) Why are you letting your cats shit all over the neighborhood and C) Why are you exposing your owned cats to the risks of the large and territorial feral colony that is a literal stone's throw away from your house?
Anyway, and as always, Keep Your Fucking Cats Indoors.
