i don't even know what to say
i had a bad feeling about this game ever since i went to watch and it was on *m*z*n pr*me
what happened to the offense
what happened to the defense [what happened to the defense is that atlanta has one 3 point threat and apparently washington has 8?
monique i thought had a very good game
celeste did well
natasha mack again had good impact
honestly i thought we took better care of the ball tonight than we have in a while but the shots were just not falling
i'm still annoyed at nate's rotations and honestly i think they are fucking up the first quarters
like i get that he's working on rotations or what ever but if people are getting points [the first points, the only points so far] maybe keep those people in instead of pulling them halfway through the quarter
i want to say this politely: it seems like he has pre planned rotations that he's going to implement regardless of the context of the game -_-
like we lost the 1st by 9, we lost the 2nd by 9, we lost the 3rd by 4 and we won the 4th by 9. thus the game by 13
if we lose the 1st by 5 instead that means that we've either played better defense or scored more points which keeps us hotter going into the 2nd, making it easier to play well, etc.

from somewhere in the middle of "not very good" and "good enough to thrash new players" I think I might be able to offer an answer.
Probably 90% of the time, getting beat to shit is how they learned the game. It's almost a tradition at this point. I learned by getting thrashed by my friends, and then by slightly better friends, and then by serious players. From an internal perspective, it can sometimes be a little difficult to know how to Teach:tm: someone otherwise, because That Is How We Learned. I don't think it's ideal, and I don't think experienced players should go full tryhard on their friends, but there's an odd gulf to it. How exactly do you strike the line of going easy on your friend without it being condescending, and while still showing them the things that convinced you your specific game is cool?
It's of course not as cut-and-dried as that. At plenty of steps along the way, my mentors would ease up on me. They'd pick characters they're less experienced with, attack less aggressively, or do simpler/sillier sequences... and I'd lose those games too. It helped alleviate the frustration, for sure, but it never eliminated it, and didn't really give me the chance to compete on an even level. What it did, however, was give me enough breathing room to appreciate what was cool about the game. To appreciate competing and trying to figure out strategies and interactions. To know how to take a crushing loss and walk away feeling victorious because I set a goal and achieved it within the loss.
Tumblr media
This screenshot is one of my most treasured memories. I think overall I won 5 games out of the 50 we played that day, mostly towards the end, and only after they switched to a character they didn't know as well. It was still really fun, even when it was frustrating!
I'm not sure if I have a point, or what it is. I think new players deserve breathing room to try the games out, and especially deserve to find players of even skill to have fun with, but FGs are a struggling genre in some ways, so it can be hard in smaller titles to find a thriving beginner scene. Experienced players are, to my experience, often willing to share everything they know as best they're able, but sometimes that best is not very good because teaching is a complicated undertaking. Losing on repeat can be extremely frustrating, but it's also a touchstone experience that every player has experienced and can relate to.
Every time I try to get into fighting games it's weird to see friends who play them more regularly get weird about it. It's like they don't understand what going easy means. I know I'm not very good at these games, I'm trying my best, who are you trying to impress by 20-0ing me every time? Might as well call me a casual. I might quit, it's not fun.

I think Azzi gets a lot of pushback because she’s been injured almost her entire college career and hasn’t been a factor at UCONN yet. I’m not surprised casual fans don’t know her because why would they? Harping on someone’s high school stats is lame and frankly irrelevant.
She’s, what 22 now? I don’t get why ppl say she’s the best shooter in the country like what are y’all basing that on? Stats from 2019? IG shorts? Cmon. Hopefully she’s stay healthy and have a great season but don’t act like ppl not getting on their knees for a player who hasn’t been relevant in years is weird. If she wasn’t connected to Paige none of y’all would be on her like this.
“casual fans” of what? paige? uconn? wcbb? bc if ur a fan of any of them then you would definitely know azzi fudd.
talking ab hs stats when in college azzi dropped 32 points against a #3 and #10 ranked school in one week (62% fg against #3) then proceeded to drop 24 (22 in the second half) against iowa the following week to turn the game around and win
curry the best shooter of all time gets on his knees to sing praises for azzi lmfaoo so idk where you’re getting this superiority complex from ?? calling azzi “irrelevant” because she hasn’t been able to play due to injury reeks of jealousy. was paige irrelevant her junior year when she couldn’t play due to her acl? or literally any other basketball player who can’t play bc they’re injured? it’s something out of their control but they’re still working their asses off in rehab to get back on the court again, and they do not give a fuck whether or not u still think they’re relevant
geno himself has basically given azzi and only azzi to shoot the ball whenever she wants. he has full faith in azzi has a shooter, and if a coach that’s won 11 nattys and coached stewie, diana, maya, etc has full faith in azzi u best believe that i do too
anon come back when azzi starts balling against during szn and let’s have this talk again!!

"Bet on Hope": More Thoughts on Isabelle
This is a response to @frangipanilove's post about Isabelle as a Beth Proxy. I agree 100% with everything frangi says and had to type up this quick follow-up, regarding Isabelle as a "proxy" for Beth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I want to add that this may feel a little out of left field, but I believe that Beth and Isabelle are connected even in the hard wiring of some of the symbols we've seen over the years. What I want to talk about here is one of the last things it seems we will hear Isabelle say in the series, which is: "Bet on hope." She can be heard saying it in the trailer, and it also appears in the *leaked* script from episode 2.6.
The language "Bet on hope" is unique and uses gambling rhetoric and essentially conjures an underdog situation. To bet on hope is to call the enemy's bluff, and to hold out "hope" that you can win, even against all odds. The opposite of betting on hope would be to fold, to give into your fate, even if you still have a chance to win, or if your chances are, essentially, no worse off than your enemy's.
Tumblr media
First, I have to wonder, what "hope" they are betting on here. I maintain there's a connection to the actual character Hope Bennett from The World Beyond, who, as a distiller and a scientist currently hiding out with T.B. Ellis, I think will be instrumental in curing Wildfire or finding a remedy for it. I think we should literally "Bet on Hope" (capital H).If you rewatch the WB coda to season 2, you'll notice that the French scientist (who has a folder full of T.B. Ellis papers on her laptop) uses the word "hope" multiple times, mainly in iterations of the phrase: "Hope beyond hope." She is "hoping beyond hope" that the Primrose Team will return to France and "end all of this."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also see in episode 1.4 of The Ones Who Live, at the "Greenwood" laboratory where Rick and Michonne find themselves after exiting the helicopter, a poster that urges residents to "Keep Hope Alive!" None of this is coincidence!
Tumblr media
Hope Bennett aside, when thinking of the phrase "Bet on hope," I am also reminded of episode 10.19 "One More," which TD pounced on long ago as containing a huge number of "Still" callbacks, including alcohol consumption, drinking games, golf, color parallelism, and cards. The episode revolves largely around Father Gabriel's slow loss of faith, a conflict which he will confront in season 11, and Aaron's struggle to believe in himself as a survivor. Their dynamic mirrors that of Daryl and Beth in "Still."
Tumblr media
In "One More," FG and Aaron play a game of poker while drinking whiskey. At the end of the scene, FG bluffs his way to a win, because, instead of calling his bluff, Aaron folds. Episode 10.19 is all about foreshadowing and setting up characterization for the future, just like so many of the episodes in 10c. It is also the episode that comes directly after "Find Me."
What's so interesting about their poker game is not JUST that Aaron folds in the face of adversity, but the way that the hand goes down. Mind you that they're not playing for money. They're playing for bottle caps, so essentially, there's nothing at stake. Aaron, in a very Beth-esque "bullshit" moment, accuses FG of bluffing, so FG urges him to call his bluff.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aaron, however, is afraid. He "doesn't have enough" to call. In a game with no cash pot, FG, however, realizes one has to be creative. He tells Aaron to bet his whiskey.
Tumblr media
At this point, Aaron considers it. He even starts to push his cup toward the pot, but then at the last moment, he folds. You can see in his hand that he has a jack, just before he throws his cards down. It doesn't mean he has a better hand than FG, but it does mean he could have something, and that it's worth soldiering forth. He will not "bet on hope" here, so to speak. He gives up.
After FG wins, Aaron then demands that FG show him his hand, and what are the cards that FG holds? An 8 and a 2.
Tumblr media
In the shot above, you can see in the background of FG's hand a mini-golf set. Apparently a game of mini-golf was among deleted scenes for this episode. The 8 and 2 here, which is a terrible hand, and which beat Aaron (who was too afraid to call FG's bluff), is yet another callback to Engine 82, the firetruck that mysteriously disappears without any explanation after "Coda." The firetruck that Abraham's group previously fights tooth and nail to defend from walkers. Where did it go?
Tumblr media
Whatever happened to the firetruck may explain what happened to Beth. After "Coda," both Beth's body AND the firetruck disappear without a trace, and we never learn what happened or why.
"Bet on hope" could mean, essentially, hold out for the long odds. You could still find the one thing that's been missing all these years, which could solve all of your problems and deficiencies. Even if it is hidden behind a major, major "bluff." You must see through it and be brave enough to call it out. You may have to be creative, to bet everything. And to do this, you need all the hope you can muster. Unsurprisingly, Isabelle, a woman of faith, just like Father Gabriel, gets it.
It could also be important, especially as this is in response to a frangipanilove post and contains the reference to "Hope" Bennett, that in "One More," Aaron considers betting his alcohol to call FG's bluff. Alcohol, we are all pretty sure, has some connection to the "cure" for Wildfire, as the "Staff of Life" (quoted by Jim, the beer brewer from Fear season 4). I've also written a post comparing the French herbal liqueur Chartreuse to the potential cure for Wildfire. Essentially, I think "Bet on Hope" also means "Bet on a Cure." It also just means, "Don't give up. To get the happy ending you desire, you have to take the long odds."
Alcohol, Engine 82, and golf all in one shot. Both a nun and a priest encouraging a doubter to bet on hope. Idk if it means what I think it means but I'm going to "bet on hope" a little longer.

Do you have any opinion about both Norton Campbells winning the deduction star and nymph award? I'm a twitter user and I'm seeing a lot of opinions on it, but I rarely see those on tumblr..... Is the ecosystem really that different from here and twitter..?
I'm not on Twitter, so I've got no clue how things are over there. You're probably right about the ecosystem being different from site to site.
As for your initial question, I think it's really cool that Fool's Gold won Deduction Star, despite him being fairly new. Normally I'm for older characters to take the win before newer ones, but I had a lot of bias this time around, ngl gfjhsdgfs I'm excited to see what he gets as a skin though! I've seen some people theorizing something based of My Bloody Valentine, and honestly, that would be so metal!
Tumblr media
As for Nymph Awards... would it be weird if I said it would feel bitter sweet? And that it's for an extremely petty reason? The prospect (*badum-tsh!*) of Norton getting another S-tier as well as a song/music video is amazing, don't get me wrong! I love getting more Norton content in the game! And it would be kinda amusing that he would technically bring home two popularity awards in one year, cause no one has done that before. He would also be the first male survivor to win Best Performance.
Now for the bitter part. Strap up, this is where the petty comes in. One of the highlights of the Nymph Awards event (albeit small. Also it's my opinion) is the trailers. I don't know, I just love seeing all these characters together, mingling, partying... it's just so nice seeing them all gathered and being all fancy!
Tumblr media
But as soon as they win a Nymph Award, all that remains of them is a poster. It's like they died and ascended or something, never to be seen again fgdshjafd
Tumblr media
So if Norton were to win, that would mean we'll never see him in these trailers anymore! I can no longer go "Where's my blorbo? THERE HE IS! That's my blorbo!" Okay, yes, we'll see him in a poster, but not in the flesh with everyone else! So yeah, extremely petty and puny reason. I'll survive though fgdshjfd At least I can go "BLORBO!" for FG and some of the other characters I like ;u;
So long story short, awesome if he wins, but I wouldn't mind if he doesn't either. The voting is still ongoing, so there's no guarantee. Things might change for all we know.

its interesting. i think its close to impossible to make a "heavy" character in a fighting game actually good, because at high levels of play you kinda start breaking down the risk/reward for the decisions made for pretty much every move. classically, heavy characters have been big move with big reward but big risk (that risk being long recovery or punishability). at a competitive level, almost every fg boils down to low risk buttons with slightly higher reward than risk with TONS of these small risks being taken (in tekken, this manifests itself in characters like feng, katarina, kunimitsu, noctis etc where you space and take very low risks repeatedly to chop away at the opponent, at least at the top level when everyone can recognize most animations). heavy characters make BIG plays for BIG damage but as a result leave themselves wide open when that risk doesnt pan out. most FGs are centered around guessing to some degree- the inability to play perfectly or in such a way that "answers" every single move your opponent makes is what allows them to grow the level of intense, sports-level interest they have. heavy characters mean big guesses=big risk=big damage taken if you fuck up which for other players means look for those big risks, punish accordingly, and force the opponent to make more of those big risks while pressuring with a ton of your smaller, safer risks.
fundamentally youre likelier to win vs a heavy if they have to risk their lives twice against a character that never has to risk their own.

atlanta however… tina charles man look at that husky! 24/7 on 9-13 can’t complain except that the rest of her team was unhelpful and/or inefficient.
and i cannot tell if i’m reading this right. like i HAVE to be tripping. atlanta shot 35 FREE THROWS. MADE 31. AND STILL LOST THE GAME. indiana shot 11. and got TECHED 3 TIMES?? HELLO??? WTF???
yeah atlanta got outplayed solely in terms of efficiency, outrebounded on the defensive end, and outscored in the paint. nothing to it. just goes to show that you can draw as many fouls as you fuckin want but if you’re playing impure basketball, you’re not winning shit.
las vegas aces vs connecticut sun

Week 9 - Dolphins @ Bills
After the Dolphins had tied the game 27-27 late in the 4th, Bills K Tyler Bass would kick the game-winning FG, a 61-yarder and career best with just 5 seconds remaining. The Dolphins woes continue as they fall to 2-6 and the Bills improve to 7-2 lead in the AFC East.

Someone fact check me if I’m wrong lol or straight up reaching
This is for Emily Engstler/DC/Mystics fans/followers
TL;DR: There might be an Engstler to Golden State plan in the works, but regardless of the case, if Mystics don’t protect her, she’s a favorite to get picked up. Ultimately I believe Mystics SHOULD protect her.
************************
Could there be an Emily to Golden State agenda going on ?Âż Bc Em followed Natalie Nakase today on Insta, AND IT COULD LITERALLY JUST BE OUT OF SUPPORT, given Natalie was announced as the head coach today.
But! Most ppl following Natalie are mainly Aces players/staff, w/ the exception of 5 players from other teams (Delle Donne, L.Hull, N.Cloud, A. Stevens, and C.Osborne // My creds: I follow all active players on each roster; guess u can count out EDD for now)
Now real talk, would Engstler be chosen in the draft pool if Mystics don’t protect her? I can say w 85-90% certainty Golden State would choose her. ‼️If you’re not aware, Valkyries can only choose one player from each team ‼️
We all know Atkins, Sykes, Austin, Edwards, and either Dolson or Samuelson will be protected (the last two I’m actually not 100% sure but they’ll prob be prioritized). Teams can protect whoever regardless of contract!!! Now Elena Delle Done coming back? If that happens, I doubt DC would let her go.
As for everyone else, they’re p much free game.
************************
✨Now I’ll admit I’m a big Emily fan, so y’all can call me slightly biased for thinking she’s the top choice for Golden State’s pick from the Mystics pool if unprotected, but let’s list actual facts✨:
Comparison from before to after the Olympic Break
- Points per game avg: 4.5 to 7.6
- Mins: DNPs to 20+ mins/game
- Started the final 3 games
- 1.8 AST & 1.4 BLK after the break
- FG%: 43.5% to 51.9%, 49.4% Overall
- Shot 51.4% from 3PT (post break), and a collective 47.4% for the season
(this is a very efficient 3PT% for any league, to put it into perspective, Steph Curry from around the same career period as Emily rn shot at about 45% from 3PT. I understand he had WAY more volume/attempts, hence why I tried to compare it to similar time periods/progressions in their careers. Steph for his overall career is around 42%, and is currently the #1 active 3PT league leader)
*********************
Looking at her games pre-Olympic break, for a majority of those, whether she played 2 mins or 20, she was EFFICIENT, at times still grabbing 2-4 points in just 1-2 mins of play, or still getting stats in other categories. Either way, she played solid minutes & contributed to DC’s earlier wins.
Emily’s a well-rounded player, who can bounce between the 3/4 position, which are the most versatile and physically strongest positions. Her defense has always been her selling point and biggest strength, but now we can really see her ability as a scorer and honestly a playmaker. Her passing ability and court vision is underrated IMO, like she can really pass the ball, to where it directly leads to scores/assists. She also has good length, instincts & TIMING. There’s a reason she’s able to deflect & get picks, and is able to block, especially those with height advantages over her. She’s also shown hints of flashiness/shiftiness (i.e. behind the back/wrap passes, reverse step through layups, etc.)
The growth she has had during this season was drastic yet super impactful and helped out w the Mystics success, especially during their turnaround.
Anyone who’s followed her since her college days can see she has always had the ability & potential to be this player, and still has more improvement that can be done, and is (hopefully) on a consistent, upwards trend.
I’m not just trying to hype her up personally, I’m taking praises and words from her literal teammates, coaches, other colleagues, sports analysts, commentators, etc.
Now my final concluding note: I think Mystics should protect and keep her, not just for the next season, but for the long term future. Emily is still young, yet has shown big glimpses of her full potential. Per Mystics GM & Coaching staff, they want to prioritize rebuilding w/ a young core, as well as take into consideration how individual players mesh w the others from this current roster. Chemistry’s already been established and we’ve seen the evidence of that on full display especially during their turnaround.
Also it’s not like Emily’s a whole new face to some of the current DC players. Bc of her 2023 preseason period w DC, she has teammate experience & chemistry w Sykes, Atkins, and Shatori. Her & Shakira go even further back to 2018 bc of HS/Pre-college tournaments. Again, watch any interviews where coaches or teammates are asked abt Engstler, nothing but pure praise and support.
So yep… at the end of the day, it’s gonna be sad to see any one of these players go. Every team’s gonna look a little different next season, and that’s unfortunately how the league works. But for now, as I am both a DC & Engstler fan and I just wanna support this passionate dawg of a player, I just wanted to give my reasons to why she deserves a spot in this league, but also why Mystics should keep her.

i can’t wrap my mind around WHY zac didnt at least get one more set of downs before that fg????
I truly believe no matter how the season ends, whether they don’t make it to the playoffs, they do make it to the playoffs or even if they make it to the Super Bowl winner or lose Zach Taylor is getting fired. Like I truly believe he will not be with the Bengals next year because Joe and the offence had an incredible game. The defence was absolutely shit. The defensive coordinator also is getting fired like these last couple games that played and lost is truly the defence fault and Zack for making such stupid decisions. This was supposed to be an easy win for them, especially with how well they started. The Bengals right now should be four and one in my personal opinion. These games have been tainted because of their defense. I don’t know if they forgot how to play or what the fuck is happening, but it’s not the same defence that we have seen in the past years. Their offence has improved tremendously, but the defence is the reason that they are losing these games and if they don’t get their heads out of their asses and start making the correct adjustments, the Bengals are going to have a really bad season this year.
the fact that offense can be playing that well and we lose the game in the way we did speaks volumes about the sideline direction. Definitely puts things into perspective and if it continues like this, the men on the field and the men on the sideline are going to be going head to head.

I was talking about the w to non sports people and they were like “did you go to a fever game??” And I was like “fuck no I hate cc” and they were SHOCKED when I said she’s never won anything! I mean I have so many other reasons but like the propaganda that has happened!! And I’m a UConn girlie so obvs I know you can be good and not win the whole thing, but there are people out there thinking she’s won a lot of things and that’s just not the case! Sorry I needed to rant!
nah you right cause even kelsey mitchell can put up 30 and carry the team and the espn headline will still be about cc. i've talked to casual watchers too and they're always shocked by her fg% and think all her turnovers are from her teammates. also this weird narrative thats carried over from iowa that she's holding up a team of awful players when indiana's starting five is basically all #1 or #2 draft picks.

*Boops you back*
I mean, I had to :P
Share a hypnocon memory of your own! But since you have a few more than mine, I thought I'd add a qualifier to make things fun.
So, if you can, pick one that's silly. Where everyone laughed and had a good time together :D
And if not, I'll settle for the usual "this is goals and also super hot" XD
I feel like the funniest/silly story in recent memory would be the delights of Charmed 2024. Daja and sweetling were watching the Packers vs Cowboys game with the agreement that every point would result in fractionation. One time in and out of trance for every point after each touchdown/FG. Apparently this is a thing Army/Navy do during their games? Thing is, neither of us expected Packers to do that well, let alone win with 48 points which ended up being over 150 bounces.
Also this was a day where a certain person who asked this very question was involved with us doing a quick fractionation battle using the Secret Subject clicker training, so Cammie went in and out of trance about 200+ times that day and was a babbling mess. When Cammie is a babble mess she tends to say the silliest things.
Daja keeps a list of Cammieisms. They are wonderful.

MLP Rewrite AU - Ideas for fleshing out the Shadowbolt 5 from Equestria Girls a bit more?
Hm!
I like the idea that Sunny Flare is related to Principal Cinch. Like, aunt/niece. Whenever rumors of Cinch's underhanded tactics popped up, she was quick to make any student shut it because how dare they slander her family like that! After seeing first-hand what happened at the Games, she is the first to tear into Cinch about that.
Lemon Zest and Vinyl Scratch have been online friends for years sharing and critiquing each other's music with no idea that the other was in the same town until post-FG when they go to collab and recognize the others' songs.
Sour Sweet knows she has some anger issues and is working on it! She had a bit of a hiccup for a while because Cinch encouraged this trait as it made her more cutthroat in competitions, but she's working on it now! And, despite everything, she very much hates cheating and is pissed at Cinch for encouraging them to do so.
Sugarcoat, true to her name, has a massive sweet tooth. Will always have candy on hand, even though it technically breaks Crystal Prep's 'no eating in class' rules. You can win her favor with hard to find sweets.
Indigo Zap was somewhat oblivious to how far the school rivalry had gone. School rivalries are normal! Trashtalk is always a part of competitions! She assumed it was mostly for show and matched everyone's intensity, taking insults in stride and hurling back just as hard. She's a bit put off realizing how bad things were and what all she participated in.
