anyway, before you make a game in any action genre, it's important to check if there were any notable arcade games in that genre or adjacent to it, because then you can find developer interviews where they've spent the past 20-30 years talking about features you were considering and saying "oh yeah, we tried that and it wasn't fun because it made the game suck"
#the funniest example of this I've had happen was when I was considering making a melee-heavy shmup where you refilled ammo w/ melee kills#and then I saw the Ikaruga team say they thought that their own ammo refuel gimmick was a bad idea and it made the game feel sluggish
