If we assume Lotor’s gonna be gone long enough that Voltron is gonna need to back another candidate to the galra throne I’m earnestly astonished Kolivan doesn’t leap out to more people as the obvious solution.
Kolivan’s a veteran warrior, a leader with considerable support (the entire Blade of Marmora not to mention close allegiance with Voltron and the coalition), understands the empire and politics pretty damn well considering that, according the interview that puts Kolivan as a founding member of the Blade, he basically ran covert ops on Zarkon for centuries with nobody in Zarkon’s sprawling empire even realizing Kolivan’s fairly sizable organization existed.
Hell, the most recent Kral Zera, without Kolivan even bothering to make a personal appearance three of his operatives crashed that party in a pretty major way, even if it went off the rails.
Also narratively speaking now that factions of the empire are starting to work with Voltron/join the coalition it makes sense the Blade is going to mingle with those factions even if they keep their own ranks fairly closed.
And like... not that I don’t love Keith but there is literally nothing about Keith as a person that gives me any reason to believe Keith would enjoy or be good at politics. He was completely isolated from galra culture, and unless Krolia sat down and taught him everything in two years which doesn’t seem to have been her priority, he’s still probably got a patchwork understanding gleaned overwhelmingly from the Blade who are actively counterculture to the main empire.
Lotor was barely able to take the throne and much of the empire actively divided itself rather than follow him and he was the blood heir of Zarkon and had an intimate, personal and up-to-date understanding of galra culture; Keith has much of the same “issues” Lotor does (in scare quotes because “so you’re a racial minority trying to take the helm of a racist imperialistic society” is not really a flaw in leadership) and he’s got less ambition and much less experience, desire, or awareness in playing the political game.
And there’s also no real good reason to push Keith into that situation, especially when that would shove him away from both Voltron and the Blade. We actively saw in s6e1 that Lotor’s duties were keeping him pretty heavily off the front lines. And this is talking about Keith- who in s4e1 was conspicuously absent for most of the nitty gritty of building the coalition because he felt like he could do more actually taking the fight as far on the front lines as he could get it. Keith would be miserable as a political leader.
And there’s no reason to put him through all of that when Voltron has plenty of allies who are galra and who could potentially take the throne even temporarily to hold their imperial allies in place / prevent them from losing ground to Sendak’s faction.

Status: going to bed at 2am because at 10.30pm I found S6E1 of Game of Thrones and just had to watch until Jon and Sansa reunited because that never gets old and well whoops.
Also - the riff which plays when Drogon burns something played when Danerys tipped over the fire pits in the Dothraki tent. I think that's cool soundtrack co-ordination.

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme originally from Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things I have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on my blog.
So it’s Monday, again…. I had a busy week this past week.. Worked on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.. [Got the Saturday off, because of the weather]… Wednesday was my school night.. Did the preparing hair cut on my model for next week’s permanent curls =]. Thursday I had the cremation of the father of my mom’s boyfriend. It was a nice service and a nice reception afterwards. Later we went home with his mom with some family and friends. His brother flew over from Vancouver and his nephew from Lisbon where he currently resides instead of Vancouver. We made a nice day of it. His mom was glad we were there. She had close friends and family with her all day [and some for the whole week].
My most eventful day was Sunday. Had to work from 1 to 9 on the first really sunny day of the year. That meant I was scooping ice cream non stop from 1 to 5 and now my hand is blistered and swollen xD It will get better, but with such days I’ll tape my hand beforehand to not get any more blisters hahahhaa..

The only thing that’s really bothering me about this first episode is that, apparently, Brienne did in fact execute Stannis - which I don’t think is like her at all. She wants justice for Renly and she wants to clear her own name, since some people still think she killed Renly, but does she really get either of those things by lopping his head off in the woods? I don’t think so.
The only fitting end to this would have been for Brienne to take Stannis captive and bring him to whoever could put him on trial for killing Renly, so that his confession would become public record and everyone - not just Brienne herself - would know the truth. That is more in line with Brienne’s character.
On the other hand, Stannis appeared to be mortally wounded and I’m not sure where Brienne could have taken him without being taken captive herself for one reason or other; if she had any options, they were probably too far away for Stannis to make it there alive. Maybe that’s why she did it herself.
Still, if that is the reason and this isn’t just more sloppy writing, I wish Brienne would have said something to make it clear that she wanted Stannis to confess publicly and face the punishment for that crime, but she knew that he wouldn’t survive long enough for that so she chose to execute him herself.

Wow!!!!! Just got finished watching Game of Thrones season 6 premiere!!! This is going to have spoilers so don’t keep reading if you are afraid to read them :D But wow! The Dorne plot, there was absolutely no hints about that! Such a surprise!!! Not sure what I think about it yet, but they definitely pulled the wool on that one. And Melisandre... she’s OLD! Like just wow, is it just me that thought she looked Targaryen? I was totally not expecting that!!! I was so happy when Brienne showed up to help Sansa! It was something I really wanted to happen :D If anyone else watches the show and wants to talk with me about it please message back. Is anyone else as hyped about this as me?
