We’re nowhere near an anniversary in the world of Galactic Starcruiser, but a few new besties have joined the fandom and we ended up chatting in the discord today about how we all discovered Starcruiser and got to know each other when we reached out across the internet✨. Which made me a little 🥹🥹🥹 because everyone comes from different areas of the Star Wars fandom—from casual fan to hardcore—and yet we all agree that we weren’t expecting to get hit as hard as we did in the feels.
As a frequent guest at WDW, I follow a lot of theme park vloggers. So of course I was watching when the first videos went up of the media preview and the maiden voyage. I hadn’t known at the time if it was something I would be able to experience, but watching the vlogs convinced me that this immersive Star Wars adventure was worth at least trying to make happen.
But the best part is that the story and characters stand on their own—so much so that you can get sucked into the world of Starcruiser without ever having stepped aboard the Halcyon. And for some of us, that’s exactly what happened.
My involvement was a bit of a shocker to me. I consider myself a casual Star Wars fan but not anymore I guess 😆. I remember watching the vlogs and not being able to get the characters out of my head. I went looking for more vlogs of other cruises, sought out groups and hashtags to see if anyone else was caught up like I was. And I found… not much of anything. Most of the discourse was understandably on trip planning and eye roll-inducing skepticism. But I wanted to dig into the story.
“What do you think about me starting a side blog for Starcruiser?” was what I asked my bff one night as I paced my room. “No one’s really talking about it. What if I made this blog and just ended up posting into the void?”
She assured me that it would be fine. That people who were interested would inevitably find the content and join in.
Yeah okay but “I want to make vlog about the villain. Who I personally think isn’t all that bad. How’s that going to fly?”
And her wise words, ultimately were:
Tumblr media
Annnnnnnnd here we are, in the double digits of followers (and not that far from triple digits, actually 🔥). It’s been incredible to get to know Halcyon passengers and hear about their experiences, and also digging into the secondhand lore with the fans who haven’t been on the cruise but are just as enthusiastic about it (still me at least for a few more weeks).
The unique situation of being a fan of something that exists physically also means that I get to meet some of my fandom besties irl. There aren’t enough words to convey how awesome that has been/is/will be.
Here’s to more adventures and more cruiser friends in the future!

Don’t Walk Away: Croyola and Croya
@better-articulate-than-never brought up an excellent point from yesterday’s gifset post and I wanted to talk about it. So here we go *rolls up sleeves*
I’d say 99% of the fandom wants to see Croy defect (giving the 1% to people I haven’t met yet who would argue otherwise, just to be polite lol). Defection doesn’t happen in a bubble. A person needs a reason to set aside their beliefs and change their direction—and sometimes that reason is another person. Sometimes it’s love.
This is where Croyola and Croya can diverge. No matter who you ship (even if you ship them all), the fact still stands that Gaya leaves the Halcyon without offering Croy an alternative path while Riyola fights until the very last second to get Croy to change his path. Of course I have gifs for this lol:

When shipping Croya, you can explain Gaya leaving the way she does as a matter of pride and ego. Gaya’s path to stardom was paved with blood and tears. We still don’t know too much about her past, but from what we’ve gathered, it wasn’t an easy climb. Holding onto her crown so to speak is a daily battle. She would not, even if she had feelings for Croy, offer him another life, especially with an audience, because it would make her vulnerable and crack the public persona that she and Raithe have carefully crafted. If she had feelings for Croy, she’d probably see this as a test for him: without any particular encouragement from her beyond a flirty touch and veiled line about player/games, she would expect him to bend to her—to take the hint and chase after her. If he doesn’t? Well then, he wasn’t worthy of her affection.
When shipping Croyola, we have a different dynamic. This isn’t queen and peasant. These are two characters who are on more equal footing, who inherently understand each other. I think that makes it easier for Riyola to have patience for Croy’s antics, and for Croy to still respect and feel for her, even when he has to push forward with his opposing mission. Riyola has nothing to lose by trying to get Croy to change his path. Publicly challenging his thoughts and ideas, talking to other passengers positively about him— none of this hurts her. She’s still the captain of the ship. Since Chandrila Star Line is front-facing neutral, this only aids her in speaking her mind and being loud about it.
Interestingly enough, a clip was just shared yesterday on one of the private fb groups that speaks to this. In the clip, Croy is with Gaya in the Atrium, and she’s telling him that she has 15 pieces of luggage (which, I guess is how he found out how many to count when she leaves lol). He’s enamored with her as usual, but things go south when the kids start accusing him of stealing their droids. One angry kid in particular pleads with Croy to “just let the droids be,” to which Croy huffily replies that he would let the droids “be” if they would stop committing ne’rer-do-well-ism. Things aren’t going well for him with his argument. Gaya is… not getting involved at all in it. So what does Croy say next? “I’m going to find Captain Keevan—the commanding officer of the ship—so that way someone can care about the active larceny that has occurred!” Even with his big crush on Gaya, he instinctively reaches for Riyola to help him solve his problems, and there’s just so much good stuff to dig into with that.
At the end of the day, I ship both. I think the pros and cons with each just make shipping them that much more interesting and fun to tinker with when creating fan content.

Genuine question…while I realize the bulk of fan fiction and Gifs focus on one particular Croy, how does the fandom differentiate between the variants? Are there nicknames? Over explaining of physical descriptions? When I worked at Adventurers Club, the fans gave us all nicknames (and were kind enough to ask us what we wanted for our nickname when they could), so the could say…”oh, last night “Scully” was in as Pamelia and “Annelle” was the Samantha.” I’m curious how the labeling is going. :) And please be kind in your answers. ;)
Thanks for the ask!!!
While I do follow the fb groups, the discourse there is more focused on the vacation experience than digging into the characters and story. So, my answer to this is based on my experience in discord/tumblr.
How we differentiate between character variants is… ✨controlled chaos✨.
We’ve created graphics that track the different character variants and gave them numbers, but the numbers are in order of who we spotted first in vlogs/photos, so they don’t have any significance (ex: so if we’ve spotted 5 Sandro’s, they’re labeled 1-5 in the order we saw them). Then there are the Saja who have unique names, so that’s easier. The graphics are great for our new members who aren’t familiar yet with how many different cast members play their favorite characters.
If a cast member has made it public that they play that character, we’ll use their name when we’re talking about them within the discord. Or we’ll use physical descriptions. But we don’t use nicknames—mainly because we can’t agree on them lol. It’s really hard to come up with nicknames! But if we were sent anonymous nickname suggestions, we would be happy to use them 🗣🗣🗣. With that said, we don’t differentiate between variants through hashtags on tumblr. Gaya is Gaya no matter who plays her, etc.
When we talk about characters in discord, we are either talking about them as one being (Croy with a capital C, not a particular variant) or we are talking about specific variant—in which case we’re usually sharing a vlog link or gif or image so it’s clear who we mean if we’re pointing something out.
I wanted to touch on another point you brought up: the bulk of fan content focusing on a certain Croy, or certain variants of other characters. There are two main reasons for this.
1. We are very much dependent on vlogs for content and understanding of the characters. Some variants end up getting filmed more than others. It’s frustrating because we want to see them all! In running this Croy blog, I can’t tell you how many times I’ll be watching a new vlog, looking for potential Croy gif moments, and then either getting chest shots (which understandably can’t be helped lol) or Croy is across the room or on the balcony in the Atrium and he looks like a little ant up there. I can’t even hear what he’s saying in the audio. This happens with the other character variants as well. I do hope that as more vloggers share their experiences, we’ll get solid footage of everyone.
2. In fan fiction specifically, the variant we choose to write is based on the goal of the fic. If the fic is focused on romance, then we’ll lean on the variants who have chemistry with each other in the footage we’ve seen. Considering the nature of the cruiser, anything we see in the vlogs is canon, so it’s fun to call out specific moments in our writing as well, so that also helps us decide. That said, the more we learn about the different variants, the wider the range of choices we’ll have for our fics. So far, no one’s written a fic where Croy is 100% loyal to the First Order. So Croy variants playing the straight-laced villain probably won’t get picked up for the fics where his defection is a plot point. With that said, this fandom is still small and growing. No doubt we’ll get different kinds of fics as more fans join in and we continue to explore these characters.
And lastly, that is SO COOL that you worked at Adventurers Club. I will forever be mad that I missed out on getting to experience it before it closed 😔 (I was a year away from being old enough to get in!). I love that you all were able to settle on nicknames with your fans. Starcruiser isn’t accessible in the way that Pleasure Island’s venues were in terms of being able to have repeat guests and build that in-person fan base. This really is a new experience for all of us to work through the vlogs and our own Halcyon adventures when and if we have them. But it’s been a wild ride so far!

Thanks @youcantrewind for finding this video yesterday 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I love the animations of Ouannii wiggling across the screen and Croy facing off against his evil twin 😂😂😂.
Tumblr media
It would be incredible to see the cruiser characters on Batuu. Yes, it could very well entice park guests to book cruises if they made connections on with these characters. I firmly believe that. But will it happen in reality? Nope.
This undertaking would be logistically difficult—no, impossible, when you factor in the task of keeping the same actors playing those characters to avoid continuity disruption. That’s… asking for the moon.
With that said, it would be worth exploring the possibility of having more characters on Batuu to both interact with guests AND seduce them to the dark side of booking a cruise 😉.
Disney could do so by making the Batuu characters you talk to on the datapad for missions into real walk-around characters (like the toymaker!). So instead of staring at a face on a screen of a character you will never meet as you complete your missions, Halcyon passengers can engage with real beings and feel further immersed while off the ship. But regular park guests can also get to know the locals, and through them, yearn to be part of the story they see playing out around them.
Anyone who’s a regular at GE East has probably met Vi Moradi and would take a bullet for her. So I really think it could work.
Speaking of work… I better end this lil meta post right here and check my new work emails ugh

Tip Of The Week
We’ve all seen National Lampoon’s Vacation, right? Nothing will kill a vacation quicker than unrealistic expectations. Walt Disney World is enormous – about the same size as San Francisco. You wouldn’t expect to see everything a large city has to offer in a day or a week, so give yourself a break. Create a reasonable plan to follow, and then try to relax and enjoy each moment. When looking back on your vacation, it won’t be about how many attractions you experienced, but rather how much you enjoyed your experience at each attraction.
