drgl on the mind so i wanna ask what your fave gala units were (whether it's design or gameplay) !

gameplay-wise i think i'd have to say zena and chelle bc their force strikes were just so satisfying and gzena's skills are one of the prettiest in the game imo... design-wise it's also zena but i also love emile elly cleo

Uh, Euden? You alright?

Did you know that Gala Euden in particular seemed to have a boss entry animation tucked away in his code? You know, the little threat displays bosses did when the name of the fight was flashing across the screen like, "Volk's Wrath - Master Difficulty" and the like?

Yup. Here it is!

(I added the sword just because he looks like he's using one but the base animation, of course, doesn't use a weapon)

So yeah. He's quite obviously floating, judging by the classic 'legs half-bent, slight up-and-down shifts', so first there's that question on the hows and whys is Euden flying casually, much less directly at the viewpoint camera on the attack.

Also, it's kinda weird how his model starts facing one way but the rest of the animation is facing another. I'm not animator or game designer of any sort, but maybe they would've implemented a camera shift or something to make it look like he's facing the player like they did the other bosses?

Aside from that, the big question is, of course, 'why does Euden have a boss entry animation?' Of course, there's quite a few scenarios they might've been intending on using it. I dunno when it was added, but anywhere from ch.14's Morsayati near-possession of him to the AU worlds' Eudens, like Zena's...

Heck, for all I know they really were going to make a Euden fight for ch.25, but didn't have the time or resources to finish it and then had to go, 'uh, Euden, okay, he made Chronos...have the players fight Euden-as-Chronos. There. Makes sense' to make sure it was ready in time. If so, darn, I would've liked to see it as another rare humanoid fight in Dragalia after the likes of Ranzal in ch.1 (though he is not a strenuous boss by any degree- you can interrupt his animations) and Nedrick's fight (I MAY REALIZE IT OVER TIME, TELL ME WHYYYYY, NOW I WANT TO KNOW, I UNRAVEL MYSELF FOR ALL- blares in the background).

Imagine if he could just do that casually all along, though, the floaty thingie, that is. I mean, Phares already seems to be floating sometimes and tends to pop in from nowhere like ch.7? Granted,he's a wind unit so maybe there's some funky mana shenanigans he's doing to achieve the effect, but maybe it's just all that raw evil-deity power that lets people float. (also not long ago I just noticed that in this picture it looks like Euden might be crying? Not important nor relevant but. Oof. Suppose it might be fair given he's now been/being attacked by three of his siblings all at once, but oof).

Anyways, that's really all I had to say.

But yeah, we had a potential boss fight vs Euden somewhere in the works or drafts or whatever!

a little update: i've begun working on merch and hope to open charm commissions soon so i can order them at the same time (around mid december!)

it's quite likely that i won't have any new octopath merch since i had some plans for octo1 but they might not work out... but i will be restocking my recent octo2 charms if you missed them!

the main thing i'm working on are the apostle and gala unit charms! i have a rough first sketch for the apostles done, and i'll be working on the rest in between commissions. i miiiight release half of the gala charms first so i don't have as many acrylics to store... but if i do it will include notte/alex/zena/laxi/mascula

This took AGES but I finally finished it! I made my own design for an AU in which Euden goes back in time instead of Zethia, and then ends up going by Eden :)

I think I'll talk a little more abt it & the design under the cut.

The one thing I wanted when designing Eden's get-up was to keep similarities to Zena/possessed Zethia. I really like the extra skin + the gold accents, so I tried to incorporate those in a way that was different but still recognizable. That's when I took a part of Euden's gala design and made it a bit more... sorcerer-esque.

I also wanted to keep Euden's warm colors in contrast to Zethia's cooler colors, so I used warmer purples and red's and I'm so glad it turned out well! I think it works and I'm really happy about that.

The main thing here with this AU, I think, is that instead of finding a successful way to turn back time, Zethia had figured out a way to seal Morsayati away but disappeared along with him. That's when Euden begins to pick up magic, stealing her old notes to pick up where she stopped.

I think his relation to the plot would be relatively the same, but very different in some other ways. For example, I think he'd only have tried a handful of times to stop himself from getting a dragonpact like Zena had. I have half a mind to say he's seen enough times to know what needs to be done to result up to the events of Ch. 15, so he ends up steering the party in a direction that also ends up making them think he's evil. Whoopsie!

One of the notes I've written down that I really liked was him coming upon this timeline and talking to Zethia during chapters 1-5 and warning her of what's to come, and around that time it being her that gives him his new name.

This was half an excuse to draw Euden as a mage because it's something I've wanted for forever. He looks so different without his bulky armor but you'd think with his connection to the Other he'd also have a good connection to magic. You'd think they'd give the main character other alts but 😔
