The clay came dark out the bag. Dark like chocolate. Dark like mole. I’d come home from a long night in the studio and look in the mirror. Face, ears, hair, hat, shirt, pants, headphones… all covered. As the piece entered the bisque kiln I savored the richness, knowing it would fade in the heat. 35 hours later it emerged, a soft seashell pink. I savored that stage too, appreciated the glow that reminded me of the ocean and of my grandparents, the shower in their guest bathroom almost the same color. The inside of the gaiwan and the lid both glazed a simple white. The exterior left bare. Extracting it from the glaze firing it came out coffee ice cream with intriguing black speckles. Gentle on the eyes. To the touch: rough enough to cut. Running water, fine grain sandpaper, elbow grease… the ingredients for the final touch: a soft-finished exposed exterior clay body, smooth in the hand. Grounding. Earth-like. 90ml measured to the lid. A perfect pour. Plum Beauty from @bitterleafteas as the mercury flickered between 99 and 100, a soft breeze commuting down river. Just testing my wares I say. The 8th brew of this beautiful Honey Orchid oolong!! I had it 3 times today. It's so delicious!! It has become less nutty and more woody but the honey and flower tastes have stayed strong.

Today I am enjoying Honey Orchid oolong from One River and it's fantastic! I wish I had gotten a bigger bag.

Tasting notes: honey, flowers, roasted nuts

Lingering sweet after taste, silky mouthfeel, golden color liquor

95 C , 5 grams in 150 ml gaiwan with spring water- rinsed- then 10 second brew, followed by 10, 15, 20. The leaves definitely have more to give but I didn't want to overdo the caffeine.
