Story - summarized

Nikki and Momo are shopping for Halloween when Nikki starts showing signs of sickness. Worried, Momo rushes her to the nearest hospital. It turns out that Nikki is fine but needs more rest - Momo, however, is the one with a fever.

He protests being sick, not wanting to take any medicine. To his surprise, a familiar nurse named Moe walks in. She calms him down and treats him well. Momo then tells Nikki that they both should stay in the hospital until they're both better.

Momo wanders the halls until he spots another nurse watching a spooky news story on TV: there are mysterious footsteps in the hospital at midnight, and it's rumored that this is a ghost that causes bad luck. He doesn't believe it - until that night, when he and Nikki were looking over Halloween games and brochures.

The footsteps made their way down the hall, slow and lumbering. But when they check the hall, no one is there. Both of them worry that the nurses or patients could be in danger.

Nikki and Momo decide to spring a trap for the mysterious figure the next time they hear the noise. He grabs a syringe, Nikki a quilt, and they ambush the figure - who turns out to be Mayor Rodel. He was coming to visit Moe since she only works at night... and they're secretly engaged.

Afterwards, Momo and Nikki enjoy candy in their hospital room.

Connections

-You first meet Mayor Rodel in Vol. 1 Chapter 3. He gives the whole group a bumpy ride in his car.

-Also in Vol. 1 Ch. 3, during the 3-12 episode, Nikki and friends gather to see Rodel after he recovered from Vulture's brainwashing. He told them he was going to stick around and get some extra tests done, "just in case." As soon as the nurse (Moe) comes in, he pretends to be hurt so he can be around her longer.

Fun Facts

-Bento boxes are Japanese in origin.

-Despite having his own character art in the game, Rodel only appears as a voice in this Reflection.

-This is one of two doctor suits in the game, the only other one being Joy's suit from Perfect Experiment.

i think fe having dating sim elements is the worst thing that ever happened to fe... disappointed to see they got random bumfucks to draw the support arts in engage so now people are gonna bag on mika pikazo more than they did before

honestly what pissed me off the most is people calling her a vtuber artist. as if she hasnt had a long and respected career before designing the one vtuber people do know from her (bc i know none of those idiots know kaguya luna or pinky pop hepburn which is sad lol). i hate the concept of "vtuber artist" theres seriously no such thing. theres seriously no remotely unified vtuber look or set of design tropes i think you just want to bag on a subculture that got eviscerated by vultures overseas... wait til they find out that like 80% of anyone who is a jp pro artist online has been commed to draw at least one vtuber avatar, whether indie or company or whatever LMAO gtfo with this "vtuber artist" shit weirdest non-insult ive heard in my life just say you do not like her art and go (i'm not a fan of her style recently admittedly but i dont hate it i still think shes super talented)

overall as usual fe hires big artists and gives them very little in the way of respect lol, from kozaki getting blamed for horny designs that kusakihara was responsible for, to kurahana being blamed for ugly ingame art that SUPER looks like kusakihara just imitating her art style.......yeah i would not be surprised if the ugly cg art in fe engage is kusakihara trying to imitate mika pikazo's art lmao.

idk how i feel about the game itself cause i do not care for the feh plot point but im willing to give it a shot. i think a lot of the non-lord characters have really good designs and i dont hate the lord designs either

postscript i do think she got screwed over by the fact that this is the game they decided to give the gacha game ass plot which makes me kinda sad

okay it's way too late to continue working on chapter 6 of FQTP and I can't really pull an all-nighter cuz I got medical check-up in the morning for my unexpected job (my ao3 writer notes are gonna be fucking insane), so i'm gonna be rambling about the random stuff that i've been doing today

i finally started doing the natlan archon quest and GOD THE PRIMAL FEAR THAT I FELT IN MY SOUL when Ajaw spoke for the first time

for context i play genshin with japanese voiceover and with the new region we got a number of new characters (welcome to gacha world) and two of them are Kinich and Ajaw who are always attached at the hip but also argue a lot. and whoever is responsible for casting decisions in the japanese department really loves doing silly funny little things, thus Kinich is voiced by Sugiyama Noriaki, while Ajaw is voiced by Takeuchi Junko.

Yes, we've got Sasunaru in Genshin Impact.

This is not even the funniest thing that japanese dub did here. Half of major characters in Fontaine arc were literally voiced by people from the Attack on Titan's cast. Ono Daisuke (and his most famous role is arguably Jotaro from JJBA) voices Wriothesley there. Only in japanese dub Wrio does the "ora-ora" thing. It's insane and surreal and I love every second of it.

anyway, back to the original point, Ajaw appears and he sounds excatly like Naruto. my soul started to leave me when i was confronted with the idea that Kinich is seconds away and can sound just like Sasuke. thank god Sugiyama did the less bitchy and more calm pitch, otherwise i would have been bouncing off the walls screeching like a vulture.

also there was an absolutely hilarious explanation on what a piligrimage in natlan is. close enough, welcome back chunin exam.

at least after the piligrimage your god will resurrect you if you actually die fighting in the war. after a chunin exam the leader of the village will give a pocket knife and, if you are really lucky, a pat on the back. oh, the enemy village is dropping an damn entire cave on your head? gotta pray that your moldy ancestor and his army of undead cacti is somewhere nearby, grandpa hiruzen is too busy smoking that pipe🚬😎🚬😎🚬😎🚬😎

after that i read the latest chapter of csm and HOOO BOYYYY WHAT THE HELL FUJIMOTO

that shit was absolutely insane.

first of all, i am crying from the fact that fuji is capable of writing incredibly complex and realistic female characters, but can not draw them for his life. like lmao what even is that.

anyway, this is the least interesting thing that happened during this chapter, BECAUSE HOLY MOTHER OF LORE BOMBSHELLS WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT

YORU HAS BEEN A MOTHER THIS ENTIRE TIME? MOREOVER A MOTHER OF TWO? THE FANDOM'S BEEN CALLING MAKIMA MOMMY FOR YEARS AND NOW WE LEARN THAT THE REAL MOMMY HAS BEEN YORU?

ALSO HER CHILDREN? GUN DEVIL??? THE SAME ONE FROM PART 1???? THE SAME ONE THAT TOOK OVER AKI BEFORE BEING KILLED BY DENJI????? HOLY FUCK DID MAKIMA REALLY SPEND AN ENTIRE PART MAKING UP BEEF WITH HER NEPHEW?????

anyway yoru ate and left no crumbs holy fuck. happy motherhood reveal day i guess, being a terrible mother figure likely runs in the family.

but also it's so funny how the devil family tree is getting to the point where we really should be doing the infographics like JoJo fandom has. for now we certainly know about the Horse(wo)men of Apocalypse aka Conquest (Makima then Nayuya then ehhhh good luck Denji), Famine (Kiga), Death and War (Yoru) and War's got babies in Gun and Tank devils. hopefully in a few years the entire plot devolves into a gigantic family drama i will die from crying of laughter.

(also fuji is so fucking real for making the four of the most powerful devils to be all women. my man.)

but the implications of this chapter are fucking insane, cause are Gun and Tank the only Yoru's kids? Did the Weapon Hybrids use to be her children? Is it possible for Chainsaw devil to be born of her as well? Nuclear Weapons devil is supposed to be inside Pochita and Yoru refers to them as her comrades??? Anway holy shit just what a chapter.

(but also Makima's monologue about getting rid of death, famine and war sounds very reasonable rn cause wtf those insane bitches that happen to be her sisters are birthing into this world)

i am also so insanely hyped for Death Devil, because she is bound to be absolutely fucking insane, like horror beyond human comprehension. also i feel like she has to not only be one of the Horse(wo)men, but a Primal Fear as well like Darkness and Aging (I believe that's what the most recent one was supposed to be)? the entire devil classification system is so confusing lmao

(also i remembered my shock at chapter 167. like. i wrote the finale for LTFG about a month before it was released and then i read it and was like. do i and fujimoto go to the same astral plane where the voices are whispering to us that we must do a handjob in a seedy alley scene? lmao)

Appearance and Personality

Appearance: Amelia has a slender female body build which it was a little curvy when standing up straight, she has buttermilk yellow eyes which they can turn into chartreuse green when activating her half-myth powers or dark fire orange when snapping into yandere mode. She has short burlywood brown hair which she styles it with two small white ribbons bows on both sides of her head. Amelia has a happy-go-lucky appearance and seems to look naïve but when no one is looking closely, she would become irritated if you’re trying to mess with her personally. Do something to her loved one and she will swoop you up from the sky and will drop eventually like a demon from oblivion.

Personality: Amelia is the oldest daughter in her family, instead of having a father and mother like every family has, she has two mothers who cared for each other and a little brother who is the only boy in the family. She never experienced having a father’s love before but she considered her uncle’s care for her for the better. Amelia is often carefree yet a bit clumsy when helping out at her family’s bakery and helping others in the village and is often a little dense. She met Lynette and Kiara at an abandoned island for her training, which the two had caused a rivalry which Amelia doesn’t approved to that and then befriended the two rivals.

At some certain events, whenever both Lynette and Kiara were fighting in public, she would stop the two from doing it or else things would have gotten worse in the aftermath. It sounded like she’s hasn’t gotten into a fight but she has when protecting her loved ones.

If any contest involves with her little brother, her cousin or her friends, she too won’t lose to them at all, Like her two friends, Amelia isn’t a easy girl to be defeated if you battle her. But she’s more violent and aggressive if she’s in yandere mode. But she was rarely seen fighting someone on her own but Lynette and Kiara explained that they had witnessed her fighting violently a group of thugs once, which the two were impressed yet surprised but Amelia had forgotten about it afterward.

But in some days, she would call either Lynette’s brothers and Kiara’s cousins for help in case if she can’t stop the fight on her own, it seems like she’s rather a peace-maker and can’t stand her two friends arguing from time to time, but she finds it rather normal in her life.

Amelia often helps her little brother Aaron and her cousin Felicity with schoolwork and often helps with her parents at the shop, which it’s five blocks close to Kiara’s estate. Though she seems to be struggling on making the bread or desserts with a unique flavor which is why she called Lynette over for some baking classes to help her for unique since she knew that Lynette and her family owns a restaurant. It would seem that she is a fond of Lynette’s cooking skills.

Like her two friends, Lynette and Kiara, try not mess with her bad side though, whenever you try to attack or hurt her loved ones, she was send you flying up till you crash into the ground below or use her sharp griffin claws to scar you badly. She has strong powers and she used them for only good deeds (Or used then to send death threats or warnings) her powers are based on an Griffin. If they look at her eyes, they will get a feeling of getting swooped away or getting pecked in the eye.

If her eye turns chartreuse green, it means that she activates her griffin powers or get angry. But if they turned into dark fire orange or her own spirit reaper eyes, oh my, get ready to run away and hide inside your house, cause she’s come down and swoop you to the air and then drop you instantly to the ground.

She has a griffin form, a half-spirit reaper form and also a ghost bride form, only needed in battle.

Though despite with her happy-go-lucky personality, she’s also very sensitive and doesn’t like harsh words from others, she’s often to be seen crying but rarely on the daily basis. But when scolded by her mentor or her mothers she’s rather a cry-baby and is a apologetic girl.

But if scolded by either of her mothers, and oh she’ll tremble in fear for any problem. (Rather just similar to Lynn’s mom and Kia’s dad though).

But if she’s played or manipulated by someone in her past or others in the school in various ways, she will try to kill herself by choking herself with a piece of rope on her neck. But in some of those attempts, her mentor or her friends will try to stop her from doing it.

Like her two friends Lynette and Kiara, she had a close relationship with a 'certain someone' alongside with her mother and aunt, but them too had got bloodshed but just like Kiara, her eyes were covered so that she didn't want that memory of them dying to haunt them.

This rather haunt Amelia in her sleep, alongside with Lynette and Kiara. At some nights, she'll cry in her sleep in her bedroom alone.

Amelia is also an expert learner and would sometimes overwork herself unlike her two friends, after she got transfered to NRC after Kiara, she too would see Lynette staying up late at night finishing her projects or assignments alongside with Kiara. At some moments she too would place a blanket on her or use her magic to transfer her to bed right afterward as well.

Amelia has a cute-attractive type appearance since her cuteness and personality was inherited from her mother Talia and then her aunt Clarabelle. Though her younger brother Aaron is rather protective over his older sister and doesn't want anyone including boys to date and harm her under his watch.

But for her cousin Felicity however, she too would do the same and is often protective of Amelia and often teams up and helps with Aaron as well. Like Kiara's cousin Valencia, she's also a worry-wort mother to her kids despite being the second oldest kid in the family.

But in addition to that, Amelia would try to sugar-coat or act cute with her words when it comes to boys who wanted hang out with her good-side. It's either she plays it nicely or ends puppeting them.

To Amelia's attraction towards guys, she rather finds it weird and creepy. Because they would interfering in her personal space too.

After helping her two best friends in a certain case in the school, she too had decided to transfer herself to NRC to join Lynette and Kiara's crazy adventures as well to remember.

-The name Amelia of Latin origin. Its Germanic root name, Amal, means "work." Gender: Amelia is historically the feminine form of the name. While her surname Kimura is very common place name and surname, especially in western and northeastern Japan. Variously written, the original meaning is 'tree village'. Some bearers are descended from the Fujiwara, Mononobe, and other noble families.

-Amelia was inspired by a couple of characters, Yani (From the Pucca Series), Mary Saotome (From Kakegurui), Hime Haruno (From Acchi Kocchi), Amai Odoyaka (From Yandere Simulator), and Aoi Akane (From Toilet Bound Hanako-kun).

-When over-reacting to anything, she takes it way too seriously. Which is why Lynette and Kiara would spell it out to her to make more sense in her head. It would appear that Lynette and Kiara are a bit protective of her since she's sensitive and a bit of a crybaby but they sometimes they she can handle the work too.

-If she sees anything cute, there are chances for her to nosebleed or faint or do both eventually. This way inherited from her inspired character Home Haruno.

-She gets flustered easily and would tend to run or fly away at full speed.

-She thinks people who were born with freckles are cute so she will adores them happily.

-She has a big love for science which is why she ended up making the craziest experiments at all times in potion classes!

-Amelia tend to say harsh words without evening noticing it while smiling or being disturbed. This was rather a strange habit to gain.

-She often breaks Lynette and Kiara from fighting from time to time and seems to get used to it and their rivalry.

-She does surprise punches out of the blue often if she gets embarrassed too much, it was hard lunch that she ended knocking them out cold.

-She's one of the victims in the 'Nine Deaths' Rumors, so she was choked on her with a price of rope by her ex-boyfriend who was the son of a mafia cooperation and almost got killed but survived.

Story - summarized

Marina would love to learn some real magic, especially being so close to Halloween. So, she wriggles her way into a magic school in Shadowflow. After too long searching, she finds it in a back alley.

Everyone is dressed like wizards and trying to learn magic. Marina soon makes friends with another student, Cersei, who is from Ninir. The two of them notice that the "magic" here is just elaborate technical tricks, nothing more than sensors and devices. So, they team up to bring the scammer down.

In no time at all, Marina has pulled off enough fancy tricks to be recognized by the school's founder. He invites her in, but before he can say much, she reveals that she knows he is a fraud. He offers her a share of the extorted money and a position on the staff.

What the founder doesn't know, is that Marina plans to use this new position to grab all his information and pass it along to Cersei. To complete the scheme, Marina invites the founder to one of her classes.

She casts a spell said to summon ghosts - the police show up instead. Cersei called them during class. The founder tries to throw the blame onto others in the room, then tries to jump out the window, then finally gets caught and arrested.

Back on the Ark, Marina finds Aeon opening a few boxes of candy and goodies from Shadowflow. He asks her what happened, and she launches into a recap of the last week.

Connections

-Marina and Cersei meet at the Dorm of the Strange in Vol. 2, Chapter 3. Marina is amazed by all the unique people there and decides she wants to go to college if it means hanging out with the "fun people."

-Lots of strange things seem to happen around Shadowflow. First, everyone gets mind-controlled by Vulture in Vol. 1 Ch. 3, then Momo has to catch a ghost in a hospital in Sweet Treatment, and now Marina needs to uncover a magical scam.

Fun Facts

-When you read Chapter 2, the last few strings of dialogue repeat ad nauseam. The only way to get out is to leave the chapter manually.

-This isn't the only Reflection with "broken" dialogue: Marina's Doodle Game and Lilith's Abyss of Stars both feature never-ending loops of text.

-Cats (especially black cats) have long been associated with magic: from the Greek goddess Hecate, to the Egyptian goddess Bastet, to the medieval superstition that black cats were disguised witches.

Okay, so Steam, right?

It's a funny question, considering "Website as public service" invites images of your shitty government insurance page that barely works. Why governments are so shit at web design is puzzling where it isn't highly banal. This ain't about that. I'm not a policy wonk, ask Brett.

To properly frame it, Steam's a free service that works fine, does a lot, and makes a ton of money without being especially evil about it.

To borrow their branding, It is the closest thing Gamers have to plumbing without getting hardware involved. With a good regulator and a savvy client base breathing down it's neck, it could even achieve symbiosis with humanity. Valve runs a weird ship, but they regularly deliver.

So, what the fuck, how?

I'm obviously a nerd. Because of that, I get anxiety every time someone says "Competitor to Steam". I do NOT want to deal with another fucking storefront, and not just because another account's a pain in the ass.

There doesn't have to be another program unless you really pull up the floorboards. People have figured that much out. Competition is either daring or dead. It usually sucks, and every time someone tries to dethrone them I'm worried it'll bait Steam into forgetting more of their ethics in response.

It's a deeply weird position to be in as a comrade. They are still a corporation. A lot of money goes into that little gray box, but reinventing the wheel is just diverting that cash straight into an incinerator.

We know that, and that's why we mock the hubris of it.

Needless to say, Epic can suck mine.

I can and do work around it and get DRM-free wherever I can (ayo itch.io), but paying for and organizing games is not a tremendously hard or shady business for anyone to take up. It's a great idea, and Steam's incredibly convenient and polished in how it does it.

Unless you're revolutionizing the model, improvements have been extraneous or just a succession of tune-ups. If you can remember ye olden days of CS Source, Steam has changed shockingly little.

That's the Valve model, and it works.

Couple with the fact that Steam is incredibly agnostic as a platform and it feels infrastructural. Both of these things make it easy to forget it's for-profit and spectacularly good at it-- they get a pretty juicy cut of every transaction.

I'm okay with them siphoning a little off to pay their guys. They're clearly taking more than that, but that's Capitalism for you: vultures all the way up. Everybody groan. Let's move on.

Client-side, it just notifies you when there's a sale, makes a rec if you ask, and gets the hell out of the way. That's something we're very used to by now but it's increasingly a neglected art. It does manipulates us, duh, but it doesn't really exploit your psychology the same way a Gacha does. A lootbox system seems like screaming desperation by comparison.

They can still revoke your access to any games that allow it, whenever they want. Their EULA's pretty clear about it: If Steam burns, it'll torch access to probably at least a couple hundred dollars worth of your shit (if you've used Steam for any amount of time). Remember that.

Steam having the keys to that is strictly better than the publisher, though. The more complicated it is to do, the less it'll happen, so yes please, more steps involved.

Valve won't just hose you (there's no reason to), but I dunno about 10 years from now. Imagine Amazon buys or kills them. Imagine Gaben dies and a mad techbro king rises rises in his place. That's a big fucking hole, and we should watch for erosion there.

Good news is there'll be a dozen workarounds for that in a week and it will be open source. Learn where to find that information, how to crack various forms of DRM, and where local game files are stored on your machine. Maintain your physical drives. Back up your shit where you've got room, it's yours.

Steam works perfectly. If by some legal loophole it fell into adjudication by the UN, I would be almost excited (my math: they wouldn't improve it, but they'd also be very scared to break it), but as it stands, web 2.0 is pretty much only showing it's ass these days. That Steam isn't actively sucking it's own dick for surviving this long without substantial corruption of vision is a minor miracle and welcome humility.

It's not going away, and it's not gonna be about what program's best anymore. The lessons of tomorrow will be ones in removing hooks and stanching the bleeding; this is a Capital problem more than ever. Check your kit.
