#Repost @paintings_i_love № 3333 (!!!!✌️) Gabriele Münter (Germany, 1877-1962) Landschaft mit Wolken oil on board, 33 x 40.8 cm. Painted in 1908 Private collection • As a founding member of Der Blaue Reiter and one of very few women working at the center of Munich’s avant-garde circle, Münter played a significant role in charting the emergence of a new visual vocabulary in modern art. From 1903-1907, she traveled extensively with Wassily Kandinsky through Europe and North Africa, where she familiarized herself with the aesthetic ideas of Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, the Fauves and Henri Matisse—influences that would emerge in her painting after the couple returned to Germany in April 1908. Once back in Munich, Münter and Kandinsky began touring the Bavarian countryside in search of a place to spend time together. They visited the areas of Starnberger See and Staffelsee, where they came across the village of Murnau. Münter and Kandinsky joined their artist friends Marianne von Werefkin and Alexej von Jawlensky, and together painted the village and surrounding landscape, contributing to a new phase of undisturbed and intense creativity for all four artists. During this first stay, the group worked intensively together to forge a new type of painting characterized by its bold simplification, flattened spatial perspective and vivid use of color. Münter's paintings, along with the work of her artist companions, underwent a massive transformation in Murnau. The swift transition in her art towards a distillation of form was almost immediate, “After a short period of agony,” she later recalled, “I took a great leap forward—from copying nature—in a more or less Impressionist style—to feeling the content of things—abstracting—conveying an extract"… • • • • • #GabrieleMünter #Kandinsky #postimpressionismo #postimpressionisme https://www.instagram.com/p/CnaCsw-LVsg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Aside from this being a picture to get lost in there’s a juicy tidbit at the end of the caption:
“I just came across this wonderful image in Roger Benjamin’s book ‘Kandinsky and Klee in Tunisia’: Kandinsky’s photograph of his lover, the German artist Gabriele Münter in Tunis, 1905. She is holding an embroidery of glass beads and seed pearls that she made in their hotel room during their travels; the design is Kandinsky’s.”
Of course this makes me think of the small travel journals I’ve made! We both spend time in our hotel rooms transferring our day into an object.

Gabriele Münter (Germany, 1877-1962) The Yellow House Oil on board Private collection • #Repost @paintings_i_love № 3172 Landscapes inhabit a place of unparalleled importance in Münter's oeuvre; they were her favorite subjects to paint, and the nuanced changes in light and weather provided ever-varying material for her explorations of color modulation. The vast majority of her finest landscapes were painted en plain air in the town of Murnau, the Bavarian alpine village where she stayed with Wassily Kandinsky from 1908 until 1914. The two were fascinated by the local tradition of Hinterglasmalerei (glass painting) which they discovered there and with which they experimented extensively. Münter's response to the jewel-like luminosity, simplified forms and fresh naiveté of this folk art is particularly evident in her resulting paintings of the following years. The present work is a particularly early example of Münter's explorations of color and texture in landscape painting, and it provides evidence of the significant role she would play in the evolution of art in the decade that followed. In 1911 she would go on to collaborate with Kandinsky and other artists including Alexej von Jawlensky, Franz Marc and August Macke to found the vanguard movement Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) in Munich. The group sought to liberate painting from a literal, figurative understanding of the world, reaching instead for a symbolic and spiritual dimension in their art, paving the way for a broader international appreciation of abstraction. • #GabrieleMünter #Kandinsky #postimpressionismo #postimpressionisme #oilpainter #oilpaintings #oilpainting #artforeveryone #fineartpainting #paintingoftheday #peinture #historiadelarte #storiadellarte #peintures #historyofart #arthistory #beauxarts #instamuseum #artmuseum #pittura #arthistorian #peintre #malerei #19thcenturyart #20thcenturyart #oldmasters #impressionism #postimpressionism #europeanart #landscape https://www.instagram.com/p/ClGilv3o33-/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

So after wandering around a LOT of art I came to the realisation that I must like the most main stream artists. The room in which I adored every piece was covered in many many different pieces whereas other rooms had just a few on only one level so every painting was easier to see and they also had a few chairs scattered around to comfortably sit and examine them some more. #impressionism #claudemonet #gabrielemünter #paulsignac #georgeslemmen #modernism #gustavecaillebotte (at Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4-D4MYHu_4/?igshid=1vidi65ywctcd
